Theme Asian Mould, Face-Up, Wig, Traditional Dress

Mar 29, 2005

    1. All these dolls are so beautiful. My wishlish keeps growing!!

I just received my Soah today!! Yayaya!!
I bought her from Diane here on DOA.
Now I'm searching for wigs and clothes :).
Now I need an Asia looking man for her husband and an Asian daughter for them.
      Any ideas????
      Thanks!!!!!

    2. Soah is stunning, congratulations! Now, kids... Soulkid Amy or Apple are adorable Asian-looking girls. Narin Dandelion is small for an MSD, but oh so precious.

    3. It seems here that "asian" is preferred to "oriental", since oriental tends to sound racist...

But referring what people imagine with "oriental" as "asian" is not entirely correct, since oriental refers to Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and all that have Chinese ancestor, while Asian means all native asian people, including melayu, india, and so on who entirely different from people with chinese ancestor...

I'm Indonesian and I'm asian but I'm not "oriental", coz I don't have any chinese blood. So I think using the word "oriental" if you're referring to chinese-descendant people just to avoid confusion is OK, unless there's other word that refer to chinese-descendant people?

      Sorry for OT ^^

@jwsmith : congrats on getting your soah btw! Glad you finally found your perfect girl ^^

    4. What on earth is wrong or impossibly difficult with using "Eastern Asian"? It's only "okay" if you are the kind of person who a) insists on using "colored" to refer to people or b) don't see why you shouldn't use words even when members of the group to which you are referring have politely pointed out that it's a racist slur. I do understand about the confusion in the term - since moving to the Uk I've learned that "Asian" here generally means South Asian and "Chinese" is a different box to tick on demographics, which seems ludicrous to me - but there are non-pejorative terms available./OT

I don't know much about the company, but I just stumbled on Cutie Angel Allie, and with the right faceup, she might work. I still think Dandelion is the cutest ever, though.

    5. I think Delf Soony is quite Asian looking too...

    6. @ autumnrain : oh, you're right! I forgot we can use 2 word phrases... I agree we can use "eastern asian" and "southern asian" :)

      Sorry for OT...

    7. [IMG]
How about this pretty little lady!!
I think she is stunning and looks so deep in thought.
Her name is Yin and she is by Asleep Eidolon in their 1/3 size.

    8. My husband's Mimiko is a very tiny princess!

    9. I FOUND ONE! Okay, I think her eyes look asian-y albeit they are big ^^ http://www.dollsoomcom./shop/step1.php?number=748
there's another version of her in a goth style with white skin ;D this is probably not the most asian looking doll, but I thought you might like to consider it.... ? :/ Scroll through the promo pics! lol Hope it helped! I think she's really cute :D

    10. For Soah and Mir's love child, I would like to suggest Elfdoll Yumi. Here's a link to a page of Elfdolls for sale from Contemporary Artists Dolls. There have been three releases of Yumi: this is the first Yumi. Her sculpt has a very strong presence in person.

      http://www.contemporarydollshop.com/gallery1.htm

There's also Yumi v.2 & v.3, also known as the Twiggy Yumis: same sculpt as Yumi v.1 but, different resin color and faceup. She's sold out but will pop up on eBay and in the DOA marketplace from time to time.

    11. Most of the Souldoll boys look very *ahem* Asian. Lol it makes me laugh people are making so much fuss about the term "Oriental" To be honest, I'm Japanese and really wouldn't care if one called me oriental, I don't see it as offence, and never have met any actual asian person who thought so, and I use it to describe myself and others (probably naughty I know..) seeing as in this country when people say Asian they mean South/East Asian rather than Far east. But anyway.

Souldolls. My Kanguk (or any Kanguk for that matter) looks very Korean. And probably would mae a good girl too.... I make mine even more confusing by dressing him in a Jeogori Chima :sweat:http://kazezakura.deviantart.com/gallery/#Noon-Hwa

    12. My Yukie is an oni and she looks like a geisha xD

    13. Asleep Eidolon has two SD girls that look Asian. i don't own either of this girls, so these are just shots pulled from MintOnCard's site.

      This is Yin.

And this is Mu. Mu's actually an LE doll.

    14. Narin Dandelion, Korean waif

    15. BlueFairy Kyle is very Asian - I made mine a girl.

I feel like I've been showing that around a lot lately... :D

    16. I like Supia Rosy's for asian dolls. It depends on the age range you're looking for I think. Supia Rosy's tend to be older looking, but MSD wise, Yisol is basically a younger version of Rosy.

This is my Supis Rosy with no faceup, and then faceup. Which, I didnt do to be very asian.

    17. Elfdoll is definitely Asian looking. Here is my ... Soah, I think (someone correct me if I'm wrong; she's the only Elfdoll I have). She's actually an Aurora, which is basically a Soah with elf ears.

    18. Unidoll Lily is very nice also...

    19. Dollmore Kid Vora
      [IMG]

    20. I'm surprised no one's mentioned Ninodoll yet. A lot of their sculpts are very Asian, or resemble Asians with idealized features (as far as I know, at least! ;)).

    21. A number of Ninodoll/Kawaii-nino sculpts are very Asian, or at least resemble youthful Asians with idealized features.

    22. You didn't say which size (SD, MSD, Tiny?) so:
Blue Fairy Fei and Xiao (and also pocket fairy Yoko from the same brand)
      Elfdoll Bongsunhwa

    23. I would also add Spirit Doll to the list - most of their girls have an Asian flare in their features, but Daffodil and Lotus espacially look Asian to me^^ Actually I'm planning a Lotus for my Chinese girl character^^

And I also think that Asleep Eidolon Col has beautifully Asian features...though her official pictures are not the most flattering...

    24. Soah has been mentioned, and my Shiori enhances this by having a Japanese character:

    25. Noon-hwa in a female (lol) jeogori chima. I have another one, but no photos yet ><

      Custom made~

    26. I'm looking for a very tall Asian girl, like 65cm or taller. A guy would be nice too, to go with her. But so far most of the dolls I've seen in that height look more European. Are there any taller dolls with very Asian looking features? If so, please tell me who makes them, and the name of the sculpt, I would appreciate it very much. Thank you ^-^

    27. Check out the I-Doll girls. They're 64cm. Also, if you find one that you like, you might be able to place a head from some other smaller Asian-looking sculpt on the EID Woman body from Iplehouse, which is 65cm but has a fairly slender neck, so many heads seem to work on her.

    28. Unidoll Lily is only 62cm, but she's very Asian-looking and has leggy proportions. You could maybe put her head on a different body, too.
Resinsoul Lian and Chun are 68cm. Lian is pretty Asian looking, but she has elf ears, I don't know if you're into that. Chun doesn't look Asian in the official photos, but check out this owner pic: http://www.denverdoll.com/images/bobobie/chun2.jpg

    29. They are hard to come by. Made more difficult by the fact that a request for Asian looking dolls gets you a load of photos of Caucasian looking dolls with 'tender' or 'dreaming' eyes. Niiice.

Sometimes a female head on a male body might be the better option, eg putting a Bonnie Hopez head on a small male body. http://www.dollmore.net/shop/step1.php?number=2620

Or possibly one of the Elfdoll girls.

Purum Cho is a male doll who would look very Asian with a bit of nose sanding http://www.dollmore.net/shop/step1.php?number=6168
      I used to own one:

CH Hyun might be a good candidate.
      http://www.ainai.com/en/product/view.asp?ccode=040100&seq=1689

Elfdoll Wu had a stylised Asian look, but he is outof production.

I almost forgot, Lumedoll Sylph has a wonderful Asian face, but he does have elf ears.

I'm sorry that didn't really answer your question. I think Souldoll is the only place offering this >_<

    30. I think that Migidoll's Yuri is very Asian-looking. I haven't seen him with a black wig yet, but I''m sure he would look perfect in one. In these pictures he's wearing a blonde wig, but you can still tell from the sculpt.

Migi's Owen can look pretty Asian too, with the right face-up and everything.

And why yes, I do love Migidolls. xD

    31. This is a Glati head I just did~
This pic is before the blushing/gloss stage, but it's still the same idea. He'll be a little tengu like demon (on the alk body) when I'm done with him!

    32. My Touda (DZ Leo) is chibi-form of Touda from Yami no Matsuei. His nickname is 'Pocket Trouble' and he is quite the mischievous handful. He wears a Chinese-style tunic.

    33. I think Iniabi fits the bill. (: She's a Littlefee Chiwoo.

    34. Inabi is so cute n_n

Here's a picture of the Glati head done- his Alk parts or clothing still need to be done. He's with my sheep how is an Alk with the Glati parts. He's wearing the Alk's clothing, but his face paint is inspired by a south Asian face paint.

    35. My husband The Dragon's Pocket Fairy Mimiko is a very Asian themed tiny...

    36. [IMG]

    37. I finally got my baby Deja in today! :D Here she is in her "homecoming" outfit, a wa-loli style dress.

The hair and eyes aren't the right color or style. She's actually going to have white-blonde straight, layered hair and two-colored eyes. She's of mixed French/Japanese descent.

And I LOVE HER SOOOOOO!!!!! :aheartbea:aheartbea:aheartbea

    38. Here's Ishi... He's a LittleFee Shiwoo

    39. This is a Chinese style 7-8" wig from Kon'd
The flowers on the wig are not included~~^^

    40. Thank you for this information! I am also looking for a distinctly Asian featured doll (one Mongolian, one Chinese), and while many of these dolls have the eyes right, not as many have the facial structure. Too often they look like Asian eyes on a European face to me.

    41. Hi, newbie here. I am also looking for a larger, Asian featured doll, one to wear historic Ming and Yuan clothing, as well as a doll to dress up in traditional Mongolian outfits. I've checked out a lot of the dolls listed here, but I'm wondering if there are any dolls you all could suggest that are a) mature looking, and b) more regular featured. While I like the anime look on some dolls, that's not going to work for what I have in mind here. So far my favorite is the Supia Rosy, but their website is frustratingly lacking in pricing information. (ETA: and the more I look at her, the more Japanese she looks. Argh.)

No one's mentioned the Souldoll Byeoul. She looks like she might work, with black hair and dark eyes and the right faceup. I know she's got the bigger eyes, but she's just so pretty in general!

I am so happy to have found this thread! ;-)

    42. What about Iplehouse Asa? She's 65 cm. The pic links to the sale page for the Special Edition Asa that is sold out now, but they have said they will be releasing a basic Asa in their standard normal and white skintones soon.

    43. Oh, she's one I had looked at and liked, but since she was sold out I didn't consider her. I didn't know they were going to be releasing a basic version! That's awesome news. (Though I have to admit, the big bust is a bit off-putting. They do tend to offer more than one body type, don't they? Sorry, absolute newbie to BJDs, if not dolls in general.)

    44. Ah, I didn't see the option to select the large or medium bust size when I looked at the page. Too busy drooling over the doll herself. Thank you for pointing that out!

Hopefully by the time she comes out as a basic I'll be ready to order her. She is stunning.

    45. Hi!

I'm looking into buying my first SD doll, and I want to make the right decision. I've realized I definetly have a "type" when it comes to dolls, so I was wondering if anyone knew of other companies that make an Asian faced SD doll? Specifically ones with single fold eyelids.

I'm currently in love with Dollmore's Mio, but I want to explore everything before I make this purchase.

      Thanks!!

    46. Is 60-68cm SD? A few listed are a tiny bit shorter. There are more if you want double eyelids or a mixed look but this is all I can think of for no crease.

    47. There's also Souldoll's Ize and Sleeping Ize to consider. I'd say a good number of Souldolls sculpts could look asian :3

    48. A korean wig:

    49. How about Customhouse Hyun?

    50. Personally, when painted right, I think Migidoll Ryu has a very Korean look. After discussion with a friend of mine once we decided it was in his eyes and nose shape. They're more distinctly Korean than say ... Japanese or Chinese. (A bit unfortunate for me, since this character is supposed to be Japanese.)

This is more obvious on my doll when he's NOT wearing his glasses. Sadly the only photo sans glasses that comes to mind off-hand is one I took to help a friend model her doll knits. So you'll have to make due with Yasuo and his crazy weird knitting:

Edit for information that is likely more than anyone wanted to know:

Like me XD; Though in my case it's more because I'm anal about details.

So far as I've been able to tell the differences between the particular groups of Asians that the original poster likely has in mind (e.g. Korean, Chinese, Japanese ... as opposed to say ... some of the other Ethnic groups of South-East Asia; the Ainu of Japan, for instance look VERY different) the differences are fairly subtle to a Western eye. This is at least in part because we aren't exposed nearly as much to the full range of diversity. The more familiar something becomes, the more you'll start to see the actual details--and that's where you'll notice differences in an ethnic group.

The most prominent features for a Western eye, when looking at an Asian, are most likely cheekbones (tend to be high placed and wider) and eyes; specifically, the Asian eye has what is called an epicanthal fold. Some of the dolls that look Asian actually lack this, they have what is known as a double eyelid (or they just have European eyes); some Asians can be born like that, but often it's the result of plastic surgery .... Ironically, these are features that are shared to greater and lesser extent with the Inuit (Eskimos) and Native Americans ....

If your doll doesn't have these features it will be much more difficult to make them convincingly appear Asian. Even with mixed blood Asian features tend to be dominant. I've a half-Japanese aunt whose Asian features are much more dominant.

(As a note, flatter features are also common among some Asian groups. Particularly flat and/or wide noses (the bridge of the nose is shorter, which is what creates a flat look). Though it occurs at varying degrees and is not something that is shared by all. But it's something to keep in mind. I've tended to notice this less in Koreans, to get back to the original post. I'm not sure on the Chinese, as they're the group I have the least feel for. I think they may also be the most diverse.)

(On Chinese, Japanese, and Korean) There are some features that seem to be *more prominent* to each group (I am not really an expert, so I'm not going to attempt to explain any; I've developed a sort of unconscious feel for some features, but Koreans are the only group that I can identify with any accuracy). I've found features can be mixed, really ... there's a great diversity within the groups. All I can say is, look at lots of photographs and you'll begin to notice some differences (I may suggest you try to find photographs of normal people, not only are models and singers/bands often times caked in makeup, but many of them also have mixed Asian-European blood.)

If you really want to get into insane accuracy with a doll you really would need to look into regional differences as well. As an example, the Okinawan tend to have some distinct features when compared to mainland Japan. But if you're going to get into details that much it's probably going to be difficult to find a doll to exactly match, anyway. That and you're probably already doing some pretty heavy-duty research XD
