Ashbet's Catgirl-head-in-progress (NEW RESIN PIX)

Aug 31, 2005

    1. Holy cow, I mean, wow.

      That is a great faceup.

    2. wow she's just amazing!

    3. 0.o Dude, where'd my post go?

      Nevermind.

Anyway - she's AMAZING. I can't wait to get mine.

And I eMailed you, because I didn't get an eMail from you. I had a white head reserved.

    4. E-mailed you back!! Please let me know if you get it, I might be bouncing off your spamfilter. You're definitely on my e-mail list (I sent out one e-mail on Jan. 8 ) and you're reserved for a head!!

      -- A <3

    5. OMG she's AWESOME!

    6. Ashbet, she's is fabulous! :-D WOW!!

PLllleassse be sure to post more pics, and with wigs too!

Lyn_R's faceup is splendid! My roomate thought she WAS Photoshoped! XD (Since I bet she was airbrushed it makes her look very smooth, nice one)!

X3 arrgg....I must get of my lazy bum and finish my anthrodoll too... >_< You've inspired me to do so...!

Hope you sell a lot too! ^__^ yay!

    7. *EEEEE* Thank you, hon!!

So glad that we're inspiring each other -- your beautiful Nixie is one of the reasons why I just *had* to bring Mau into existence . . . I can't wait to see your anthro doll completed (I heart theriomorph legs, hehe!)

Lyn used an airbrush on the shading and painted in the stripes and such . . . I love the effect, I'm SO pleased with how she came out!! I just told Lyn to go to town with whatever ideas pleased her, and she came up with the idea of doing a Bengal-style Mau . . . modeled after her cat, Citrina. *loves*

I'm not going to put a wig on this girl, since she's got such amazing work on her headcap . . . but Vanillashine is doing a normalskin Mau head (I've seen previews! She's so cool!) in a more "cat-GIRL" style (rather than "CAT-girl"), and I've already got wigs laid out for her . . . eeeee!!

      *smooches*

Thanks to everyone who's commented, as well -- I am SO happy!!

      -- A :D

    8. your sculpt + Lyn_Rs faceup = stunning! :-)

    9. *smooches*

Donn, you have been a constant inspiration and source of encouragement, thank you so much!!

*much squeezing* (Sorry, you'll have to put up with it, I'm a huggy kind of girl as you know . . . hehe!!)

      -- A :D

    10. Awww shucks (blushes) :-) (then huggs ya back)

Everyone involved in making her did in incredible job!!

I hope she will be attending Otakon with you this year, i cant wait to see her in person :-)

    11. Had to bump this since no one else did - Absolutely wonderful piccies that Ashbet sent to all those who'd asked for preorders - for all those who didn't manage to pre-order, do you have any left? (^_~) Wheeee! Soooon!

    12. Donn, I am definitely hoping to make it to Otakon again, and I will assuredly bring Mau if I do!! :>

Kisaki_kun, *awww* Thank you!! I won't know for a few days if there are any left -- right now, they're all reserved, but if someone can't make payment or payment arrangements, one or two might pop up. I'll know a bit more after the 'official' release on Feb. 1!! ^-^

Good news!! Vanillashine, who did the face-up on MauTwo (now named Cyan), was kind enough to try her head on an Obitsu body for me . . . I was 99% sure that it would fit (since the original sculpt was modeled after an Obitsu head on the interior), but I can now say with certainty that Mau heads will fit on Luts, DD, and Obitsu bodies :D

      *doing an Invader-Zim-style happy dance*

      More pix soon!!

      -- Andi ^-^

    13. WOW!! she looks so coool! Congrats on the amazing job!!

    14. Ashbet - Wow... even on a Obitsu she looks awesome - *frowns* ooh, that sounds like I don't like Obitsu doesn't it? Not what I'd meant.. I just mean that Mau is so versatile! (^_~) *gah* I need coffee... so, you know I have to keep asking cuz I think it'd be awesome... any plans to scale Mau down and make her into the MSD size? *already has possible character plans if you do* Tho at this rate, I'm just making her into an "adult" version with this release :) ! *lol*

    15. Thank you, Tinis!!! :D

I really like the Obitsu body, it's got such a cool futuristic feel -- I'm thinking that Cyan-Mau is going to wear a lot of black PVC and strike a lot of poses *grin*

And yep, a Mini-Mau is in the cards for the future, although I have a couple of intervening projects. I'm waiting for AR to come out with UFKs again (please let it be before next Christmas!) so that I'll have a spare in-scale body to sculpt the head on -- my minis have vociferously protested the idea of being used as figure-models even if their heads are safely put away, and I love the AR body sculpt anyway :>

      *squee!!!*

      -- A :D

    16. So the Obitsu body is vinyl? They looked neat and I love the price but I keep on thinking I should just save and get her a resin body.

I look forward to seeing the Mini-Mau. ^_^ I thought about waiting for the mini but I want the adult Mau.

    17. You're squee-ing?! *Grins* You shoulda heard my shriek when I read that! (^_~) Is all you need a UFK Body? *looks at her thus far uncompleted Cien boy who's still in the bag aside from his head which she's just face upped and it's currently drying* I can lend ya his body since I haven't started Ed's mods yet... (^_~) Tho I would like to eventually get it back since I'd be making his automail!

    18. Yep, the Obitsu body is vinyl -- it's similar to the Dollfie Dream 2 body (internal skeleton). My dear friend Arkady has several Obitsu dolls and loves their poseability, and Vanillashine, who painted Cyan-Mau, also loves Obitsu girls and has just bought one for herself! :>

I'm either going to get Cyan an Obitsu body (the 'pale/white' version, since the 'normal' version is a bit darker than her resin) or I'm keeping my fingers crossed because I have one day left on an auction for a SOOM Dillui, whose body could be Mau's for a while (I love the SOOM girl bodies!!)

I don't know when I'm going to get the mini made -- I have a couple of other SD-sized sculpts in mind first, although I'll definitely keep you posted when I'm ready with the mini head!!

      Woohoo!! :D

(Oh, and my daughter and I are both huge FMA fans, rock on!)

Hmmm . . . wow, that's a lovely offer, thank you! I need to get the Mau heads sold before I think about investing anything else in terms of materials, but I will get in touch with you after the sale is done, I'd certainly be interested, thank you!!

      *mwah!*

      -- A ^-^

    19. No worries! I'll try to hold off making him then until after the sale's over just in case you do need to borrow him! (^_~)

And yes, Hagaren/FMA is awesome... can't wait for them to release the movie in ENGLISH...(^_~)

    20. Kira's been playing the game ("Curse of the Crimson Elixir," IIRC) and has been teasing me with hints of future events in the series ^-^

Oh, please don't hold off -- I'm scouting for a girl-UFK (pref. Angelica, since I love her) for me to keep, and I don't know exactly when or exactly how long it'd take for me to create a Mini-Mau (for one thing, I'd have to get a *good* sculpt first, and Mau took me a few tries) . . . go ahead and create your Edward, and I'll let you know when I'd be ready to work on Mini-Mau :>

My plan is to get a UFK girl (or a non-UFK Angelica) for myself, anyway (I just couldn't afford to do it before the order period ended), so I'll work on Mini-Mau then, don't worry!! I appreciate the offer of the loan, but I don't want you to hold off on anything on my behalf!!

      Thanks much, though!! ^-^

      -- A <3

    21. *Grins* Gotcha! (^_~) Thanks for letting me know, and yeah, COTCE is a fun game... I want my playstation back from shipmeeeeent! *needs her DDR and FMA fixes*

Any chance I can sign up now for a mini-mau head in normal skin tone - or rather the AR normal?? *lol* I know she's going to be adorable!!! *squeees* in thought

    22. I'll put you down as first on the list of requests :>

(We'd better take any more conversation on the subject to e-mail, I'm trying to keep this thread Mau-focused!)

But, yes, I've made a note on the subject -- and I will get in touch with you after all the heads have sold and I can think about taking on a new project :)

      Thanks again!!

      -- A <3

      P.S. More pics of Citrine!!

With a 'Dolling' made by Tsaritsa :>

Notice any family resemblance? Zuul's muzzle was my model for Mau's!! :D

    23. I just want to meow at Mau.... she's so adorable!

    24. So cute! X3 I love to see her running around doing stuff *I still die everytime I see that faceup*

It would be cool to do the rest of her body like that. O_O !

    25. Mau is really growing on me.. I hope you'll be able to take up the MSD Msu project soon! XD I am going to put the MSD Mau head on a MNF body though...

    26. Thanks, guys!! :D

(I do hope to eventually do some stripes on Citrine's body, but I don't own an airbrush, and my experiments with doing them in pastels haven't been turning out, so I think she'll be sent out to Lyn for that, once she gets an opening in her schedule)

MiniMau is in the pipeline!! I do have a MNF girl, so I can try her out on it when she's sculpted. Don't expect to see her for some months to come, though, Caitlin and I both have some other projects that will take priority . . . but she'll definitely get made!! (I say 'she,' but I'm going to try to do a somewhat unisex sculpt so that she can be a boy or a girl)

One pic of Cyan and Citrine, home together at last!!

      -- Andi :D

    27. I love the pic of Citrine and Zuul. From my experience with our cat, Zuul would take more notice of Citrine if she was wearing a wig.. which she would thus not be wearing for long....

    28. they both look so gorgeous :) i cant wait to get mine :P

    29. Just sent ya payment Ashbet! (^_^) *happy dance*

    30. Oh dear, I'm so behind...
are there any Mau heads left? O_O
      I'm all interested...

    31. I'm pretty certain the entire litter has all been snatched up, but Andi is going to be doing an MSD-sized on in the next several months, it seems.

I'm excited about that, but I'm not sure if I'll get her, since I'm already getting a Mau...

    32. Right now, they're all reserved, but I'm going to take names for a waiting list in case someone is unable to make payment/payment arrangements . . . so I'd be happy to add you to it!

Can you please send me an e-mail ( [email protected] ) so that I have your contact info?

Thanks, and sorry about that . . . since this is our first doll project together, we wanted to make a limited number so that we knew in advance what we'd need in terms of supplies, etc. Resin is EXPENSIVE, alas!!

      -- Andi <3

    33. *Squeeee!*

For those of you who don't know, Mau's been featured in Dollicieux.com E-zine!
*grins* Ashbet, you really do need to toot yours and Caitlin's horns, you both did an awesome job on this! *happy dance*

As a total side note to the Mau head, but related to the article...

I have to ask.. can I sign up for the Jackal/Anubis boy head now?? :eusa_pray I'm sure he's still in the planning process now, but ooooo! *wants* I remember seeing Mau's first intro's and remember asking you if you were planning to do a more canine one...

    34. Gah!!! I hope I'm not terribly late! I'd LOVE to have one of these heads. O.O;; I wanted one SO bad to make my KittiePink (my fursona).. but never can find one. Yours ROCKS out loud! O.O! Please put me on a waiting list, if you decide to make more? please please please??? *begs!* :eusa_pray

    35. You guys are so sweet -- thank you for the note about the Dollicieux feature, I was really honored to be asked to participate in the magazine -- go check it out, if you haven't already -- it's a very good magazine as a whole (don't forget to browse the archives!) :>

I just posted some pictures of my Mau girls with a Catsy in the Gallery, if y'all want to go see!

Also, we've had our first owner pictures of Mau posted!! As people receive their heads, I'd LOVE to get a Mau owner's listing going . . . so if you post pictures, please link them here so I don't miss them :>

The first batch of heads from this 'litter' will be shipping out soon, so I hope to see more owner photos when they arrive . . . I can't wait!! ^-^

BTW, for those of you who are "expecting" . . . Kitten_Princess made a Mau button for your .sig!!

    36. Wee I cant believe i'm the first Mau owner to post :)
I really cant wait till i get the painted one :D
      THANKS ASHBET!! tehe :)

    37. Hi Ashbet,

Your work looks wonderful. I admire your sculpture so much.

Which is why I'd like to ask you a question, and pls. forgive me if this has been posted somewhere already--I looked, but couldn't find anything...

I'd like to ask about sanding on your resin head versus sanding while the head is still in Sculpey. I kept my sculpey head pretty bumpy, and decided to do my sanding on my resin head. The sculpey head was very finished as far as the features go; it just didn't have a completely smooth surface yet.

I'm finding it very difficult to achieve the desired perfectly smooth, even skin surface on my resin head! Do you have any advice on that? Has anyone done bunches of sanding on resin... any hints on types of sandpapers, etc.?

Thank you SO much! I've turned to you for advice before, and I really trust your experience. Meanwhile, I'll keep sanding... and sanding.. and sanding... before I go back and fool around some more with my sculpey head.

    38. OMigosh.. that's so awsome!

    39. Hi, Divi!! Thank you so much <3

We did most of the sanding on the first cast of the resin head because the Sculpey version was too fragile to risk . . . Caitlin recommends a type of sandpaper called "Wet and Dry" -- wet sanding works best to get a smooth surface, plus you don't get a lot of resin dust in the air to inhale (although you should still use a mask).

400 grit is a good sandpaper for smoothing resin . . . don't go lower than 320 or higher than 600.

      Hope this helps!

      -- A <3

    40. Ooo... is there a reason for not going higher than the 600? *looking at the little pad of 12000 grit she's got left over from models* Is it just because of the size of the resin powder shavings you get or does it really not work? (and sorry to be OT, but was curious about it after reading your posting to Divi)

    41. I think, and don't quote me on this, that it's just not effective, you'd use up more sandpaper and arm-power without getting much of a result. Caitlin's the expert in that regard, though -- I just use my little 3M sanding pads (Superfine, Ultrafine, and Microfine) for surface smoothing, but for major sanding, in my personal experience, there's just no point in using anything over 600 because it'd take forever to get a measurable result on resin.

This is just our opinion, though, we're not trying to say that it's some kind of official decree that you *can't* use higher-than-600-grit sandpaper on resin, just that *we* haven't found it to be a productive or effective use of time/energy :>

      -- A <3

    42. Cool! Thanks Ashbet! *lol* I wasn't sure about that - but I definitely agree - a lotta work for not to much on the visible results scale *grins*

    43. Yay! Do you have an estimate? I need to snatch up a DD body for her.
      Can't wait!
      Anna

    44. I can't either!! I'm really looking forward to seeing all the owner pics <3

Caitlin has all the heads cast and has been doing cleanup, and I'm expecting them to ship out any day now . . . I'll keep you posted!!

      *squishes*

      -- A <3

    45. Ohhh! Excellent! I was just about to poke you to see how the shipping was coming along. I'm afraid she won't have a body for quite a while as I'm so very poor now, but I can't wait to get started on her face up !

    46. AWESOME! (^_^) I so can't waiiiiit! *Grins*

    47. OMG your Girls are so beautiful. I love the coloring and the face up *_* Whenever you make a MSD sized one please, please put me on the List. I would love to have one ^____^

    48. Thank you so much!! :D

Taiki, I'll be sure to add you to the list when the MSD head is sculpted!

      -- A :>

    49. Yay! ^___^ So much love for your Furries :aheartbea

    50. she is so pretty i love her >< :D
Ashbet ~ do you have her in a group photo with your other girls? just curious what she would look like :D

    51. ooo any news when they've been sent Ashbet? I cant wait to get my painted head :)

    52. Thanks, all!!

I'm waiting to hear back from Caitlin as to shipping dates -- she just moved and doesn't have Internet access for a few days. I expect to hear from her this week so that I can give an update ^-^

Linnyp, I'll be taking some group photos soon!

Here are two -- sorry they're not great quality, I've finally got a new camera now to replace the old one that I took these with. I want to take a "family" photo of all my dolls sometime this week :D

      In the meanwhile . . .

Cyan (on Obitsu60 body), Citrine (on CP Girl body), and Aislinn (Lishe on CP Mature body):

    53. yay thankyou ashbet for posting the pics :D :D :D ... i cant wait to see more when you take them.
i was wondering seen as it said somewhere that you based her on an obitsu head.. if she would fit an msd body or even a mini fee body?
      just curious ><

      :D :D

    54. She's going to be way too big for a MNF body . . . and a bit out of proportion for an MSD body, in my opinion. I *am* planning on doing an MSD-version Mini-Mau sometime down the line, though!

      -- A :>

    55. excellent
thankyou very much you're so helpful ^-^

    56. Oh wow a mini Mau T___T my dreams will come true! lol :)

    57. Any more word as to when the Mau heads will be shipped? (I know it's only been a week, but I'm anxious, heheh)

    58. I just heard from Caitlin yesterday (she's moved to Nottingham and is stuck on dial-up while waiting for her broadband connection to be installed) -- looks like she's going to be shipping a batch out shortly!

      -- A :D

    59. :sumomo: SQUEEEEEE! :sumomo:

I've got 3 wigs a-waiting for her. No cat-eyes, no clothes ... no body either ... but 3 wigs. Yeah, I've got my priorities straight.

    60. I think I am on a mailing list for these heads?? can't remember..but wondered when, how to order?? I haven't received anything through a mailing list yet..
