Lio Farhan Ascker is my very old character, and he means a lot to me, like no other. Material: Apoxie Sculpt Height: 60 cm + horns Weight: 1390 g 21 points of articulation It took 1 year and 8 months to complete him. Not much considering the tasks I faced. Nonhuman anatomy, lots of inventions, a new experience for me. Reference pictures: link1, link2 Progress thread on The Joint Thanks for looking!
Well done, ira_scargeear !!! You are a consummate artist and craftsperson. Beautiful and amazing. (^_^)
Yay, finally! Congratulations, ira_scargeear. EDIT: One year and 8 months really isn't that long, btw. Especially when you have to figure out so much.
silk, thank you very much! Yeah, 1 year and 8 months is actually nothing considering the periods of rest I made from time to time. I just would like to work much faster but my skills don't allow that yet))
Beautiful work! You should be so pleased and proud. He looks as great undressed as in his cool costume. Really elegant.
ghostdollie, thanks a lot! Yes, I'm so proud of him, he is a pleasure to play with and to put in different poses.
I know the feeling, always trying to get faster and faster. I recently spoke to an older (more experienced) dollmaker and she said that the biggest mistake you could make is to rush things. Dolls need time to evolve, she said, and by hurrying you'll only get a product that looks half finished. When you take your time, you keep having that critical eye you need to make a great quality doll. I think she has a point. And it's not like the clay will dry faster because you're worrying ;p.
silk, I suppose I know what she means: when the doll is put aside for some time mistakes are seen much better, and this is so true. But I talk mostly about specific qualities of my materials: there is a lot of waiting in the process. The best material for me is plasticine, it's really unique & forgiving, but it's too soft to test the joints. I plan to use it more extensively for a basic sculpting. Another thing that drives me mad is sanding, and this step just can't be omitted)) I sanded Ascker for more than 2 months, almost everyday.
O, sanding is so annoying. It took me about two months as well and even then the doll still wasn't as smooth as could be, because I used paperclay and it's simply too soft to remove all the irregularities. I wish I could skip this step, but then my doll wouldn't have looked the way it does now.
Holy - that is GORGEOUS! I come back to this place after so long and see such great things that make me what to make more dolls, amazing and inspiring work!
