40–49cm Dolls Arachne [nudity], yes more spiders :)

Aug 26, 2022

    1. Before i made this post i noticed two other spider projects. Look forward to see how each one will evolve!
Think mine is a bit different but its also pretty early on in the project. Have to work out and refine the concept a good bit further before i start breaking things up for joints. Should give an idea where i'm going tho and hopefully a good start for a project journal...

    2. OMFG!! I'm in love, be still my beating heart. :aheartbea

    3. Thanks! Still tweaking the concept further, hopefully more updates soon...

    4. It looks amazing, wow! Can't wait to hear more of this project.

    5. wow, this Is stunning

    6. Wow, this looks awesome! No pressure, but I'm really excited to see where this goes. :)

    7. Thanks so much! No big updates yet unfortunatly. Been looking into jointed hands and trying to make my own for her. They still need plenty of work but i like the segmented parts adding to the concept of Arachne (like another hint of her corruption).

    9. In researching this character it was cool to see how widespread these half-human half-spider creatures are in worldwide cultures. Wanted to do something with that so i made 3 masks sofar. Inspired a bit by greek, roman and egyptian style, that with a magnet can be attached. The masks match with the main eyes and hide the others.

Now as a shadow weaver she can influence the various cultures all over the world!

The masks i have sofar (still in rough detail)

Joints and everything is (finally) more or less done so its finally time to add more detail :)

    10. Few updates to her face and masks. Still needs more work but with an added wig they will hopefully look pretty good and allow her to weave great myths all over the world :) With the masks her two larger main eyes line up and are still visible.

    12. Thanks! Yeah it will be interesting to see how everything comes together. Most parts are printed but i still have plenty of cleaning up to do. Did some quick testfitting. Without string or magnets so i only have a few quick pics.

    13. She is coming along very well. This is a very cool concept, thanks for sharing it with us.

    14. Thanks! Cleaning up and sanding is going well, already busy stringing. Progress is going slow on that tho :)

    15. Stringed with her "legs" attached. Plenty of tweaking to do but pretty happy with her look sofar.

    16. She is amazing! I have a human/spider design I'm hoping to sculpt eventually, but you took yours in a very different direction. Looking forward to seeing more of her!

    17. Thanks! Yeah there is lots of room for creativity and different directions. Thats what makes it fun. Be sure to post yours here when you start sculpting, love to see others.

    18. Wow, I really like this concept! It's in that creepy/cool area that I love. It also seems like a more 'realistic' human-spider combination?

    19. She's seriously gorgeous! I love spiders and this is a perfect depiction of a human-spider hybrid for me :love

    20. Thanks! Yeah thats definatly something i wanted as well. Tried to add some hints of former legs that merged into the spiders lower abdomen.

Current update, well she's currently my test subject for improving the joints and my resin prints in general. I'm still tweaking things but she can now stand! By using four arms and the end of her lower body (so i'm cheating a little bit here). But it looks good and it works both when leaning forward or in a more upright pose. For this to work i added suede to the shoulder joints. First time i used suede and it helped quite a bit. No miracles but a nice difference. But before i continue with that i decided to go further and also reprint her ribcage and chest pieces. They were really heavy and this time i hollowed them out a lot. For example her ribcage piece went from 106 grams to 39!
The suede also helps protecting the slightly softer 3d printed resin, preventing those very light but quite visible white scatches. To really prevent those i'm going add a 2k (car paint) mat coating and test if that is strong enough as a scratchproof surface. Can't wait to test that out. Otherwise ill reprint parts in a 50/50 mix of this resin and a very hard one.

    21. Wow she is super cool! She's beautiful but also creepy, she looks like she would be a lot of fun to play with.

    22. These looks amazing! I'm definitely on a monster kick, wow. This is feeding me.

    23. Wow... I tend to find both spiders and creatures with multiple human hands super creepy, but somehow she is still beautiful.

I'm curious, are you planning on having glass/resin eyes for her? Will/do they run into each other inside her head?

    24. @fierox: Very cool, is this The Stalk (Saga)?

    25. Had to look up The Stalk, yeah cool character! Think i have seen her (but i didnt know the name) when looking for reference pics but she isn't based on it.. Although especially the eyes are pretty close. Now i want to read her story!
For my character i wanted less of a split between the human/spider parts. So the legs/arms start at the shoulders and continue on her back. A few more pics below. She will be reprinted in scratch proof resin with a few small tweaks mostly to improve the joints.

    26. With lots of arms&hands plus a few face masks i hope so! While measuring everything for her outfit i had her posing with all the arms like a Hindu goddess, looked really cool :)

Yes i plan to and its close but they do fit without running into each other :)

    27. @fierox what brand resin are you using for scratch proof?

    28. Resione Anti impact. Its more difficult to print/work with (compared to elegoo abs like for example) but once printed it seems really impressive sofar.

    30. She looks so incredible :love and I love the faceplate/mask system you designed to let her go between 2 & multi eyed.

    31. Thanks! Yeah it was quite tricky to make it all fit really closely to her face (and also have room for a little magnet) but it worked out prety good.

    32. WOW! Fantastic work! Trully trully amazing, she's a joy to look at :D:D:D

    33. Well I'm in love, but then I adore most werespiders/spier-people/driders so falling for this girl was a given. <3

    34. Absolutely stunning

    35. Update, tweaked some joints a bit and added some color :)

    37. very creepy, but i love that you have such a unique take on a spider humanoid! she's great

    40. I'm a little late here but that is an awesome doll. Love the design.

      • x 1
    41. Thanks! Made an alternate lowerbody. It still ends in a point but it has an almost flat piece to stand on. Its a bit cheating but now she is super easy to stand now and i kinda like that :) Think i will probably end up with another that is a mix of the two (and maybe add a weight at the bottom to help a bit more.

    43. she is stuning!!! She kinda reminds me of Cydaea from Diablo 3 and I love it!!!

    44. Thx! Hmmm i played Diablo 3 but cant remember her. She from an expansion maybe? Below a few more outside pics and a second one i'm making out of spare parts in bone yellow.

    46. I’ve just been looking through some of the posts in this section, never ventured here before as to be honest I find it intimidating seeing as I’ve only done a couple of basic paper and pencil designs for other people in the form of drawing out the designs for Tinybear/SleepingElf’s ‘Fat Fairies’ Bonbon and Coco and little Thistledown, also Pukifee sized cat legs with jointed feet and a griffon with jointed feet which Daisydayes made and cast many years ago. My lack of doll engineering knowledge showed.
3D sculpting was if anything in its infancy as far as being an accessible tool was concerned and 3D printing didn’t exist the way it does now. It’s both impressive and scary how commonplace these things are these days. Regardless of the tools and methods used careful thought, planning and an understanding of how things work and move is a must plus, in the case of anything based on living creatures whether real or fantasy, the purpose and practicality of every part.
That is what impresses me with your design, you’ve thought about it more than you may even realise even down to the positioning of the hands and fingers. They have purpose as well as being aesthetically pleasing. I think she’s fantastic!

    47. Thanks! Yeah, and its a pitfall i still regularly make. Get an idea and enthusiastically jump in and do it. Its not bad in all cases but sometimes its good to really develop a character, find the why and the how. Probably a risk of current tools and mindset, they invite to quickly start sculpting. Sometimes the paper and pencil start is still very helpfull!

    48. OMG! I'm so late but your BJD is so awesome! I love the concept so much!

    49. Thats ok ;) Thanks so much!

    50. This is such a great concept and an amazing product to show for it. I love that, instead of giving her a bunch of legs, she has 8 arms. It makes her so dynamic!

    51. Thanks! This was quite a challenge but doing my version of a half human/half spider creature was on my list for a long time!

    52. I feel I’m a tad late to the party but Oh wow!! This is such a unique take on a spider themed doll! You’ve clearly put a lot of thought into the design, I’m glad I was able to see this lovely piece x

    53. Thanks! Yeah really fun project!

    56. Oh wow, you've done some fantastic work since I last saw this sculpt. More spiders indeed! Are there more updates in the works, or do you consider them finished?

    57. Thanks! Only a few small updates. I added tabs and support for an extra string to the lower arms. The tabs allow some "locking" to help with standing poses. Not a huge issue so my existing spider demons are fine but I plan to print another in 1/4 scale one with these new updates. At this scale she is should be a bit more mobile and easier to bring along... plus only a fraction of the resin cost of the bigger one

    58. Oh my god, she's gorgeous! I love fully committing to the arms as the spider legs. Beautiful work <3
