40–49cm Dolls Ara Pops On By (Impldoll Avery)

"You'll get him on Saturday," USPS says when I poke them and they say he's in customs.

"Actually," they say the day after, you'll get him Monday. This isn't a terribly big surprise, a slight disappointment, but not a surprise.

"He's in the city right next door," they say on Friday at 10pm, so I see on Saturday morning.

"Okay," I say, "Considering how short a drive it is, it feels silly to have him sitting there over the weekend, but okay."

"Wait," they say later that morning, "He's out for delivery."

"If you just leave me a 'could not be reached' slip I will cry," I say.

But he got here! And I dare say he's cute as a button. Pictures ahoy!

CoA plus a hint of his funny lil cartoon cutout type thing. He also came with a bit of eye putty and some seafoam green eyes.



Here he is trying said eyes on! They're not his color I don't think, especially not with the purple-heavy color scheme I have planned, but they're cute. (Also he's in dark tan. I honestly wasn't sure what exact shade he'd end up being! There seems to be a few dark tans running around on the site.)



I put his eyes in and oh man, he's so cute. I love him to bits!

I will say, as some folks in the Impldoll Young discussion thread noted, he's not 46cm tall, despite what the site says. He's 43cm in total. So if you're really gunning for those 46 centimeters, he'll come up a bit, uh, short.

He's also strung really tight. I think. I haven't handled a BJD before honestly! But while he stands without issue, his legs are hard to pose and he doesn't want to sit. I also cannot get him to tilt his head up at all, and as much as I strain, I can't lift the hook in his head. His arms are better, though I'll probably loosen them up a tad, too, when I get around to restringing him.

First, though, it's Local Yarn Store day, and if I pick up a small skein to make him something, that's a doll birthday present, right? Not me randomly adding to my stash?

Yeah, looking around the site, it was hard to tell what the current dark tan was. Some of the smaller dolls looked much darker, the sample colors looked different, the bigger dolls, it was impossible to tell when the tan ones were made and photographed versus the smaller dolls and each other, whether they were tan or dark tan...

But! He's a nice, neutral/cool tone. Which is great for me because my plans for him involve cool purple color schemes.
