Anyone use HUAWEI P50 Pro or anyHUAWEI phones

Jan 12, 2023

    1. I’ve been thinking about saving up and getting a new phone for my photography for a while. I was thinking about Huawei p50 pro or maybe any of the huawei. It’s expensive but I like that it’s easy to use and carry for when I want to take my doll out and do a photoshoot and also just taking pics of daily fun things out. I know some people might say save for a dslr camera but I’m not really a techie person as it is and I don’t have the means to get all the accessories or a laptop. And I’m honestly not up to learning about everything with cameras. I just like the convenience of carrying a small phone and just taking a pic :XD:

    2. Huawei is under US sanctions so their newer phones cannot be sold with Google Play. If you're not a tech person and can't install Google Play on your own, that might be a big issue because we all get our apps through Google Play. What interests you the most with Huawei phones? Maybe people can suggest good alternatives.

(I use an Huawei phone from four years ago before the sanction and I'm sad it won't be practical for me to upgrade to another Huawei.)

    3. D795 oh that sucks I didn’t know that :(I really love the camera it seems crazy good. I want to take pics of my dolls outside and I love to go to concerts

    4. Yeah it really sucks. I heard that the Google Pixel 7 Pro's camera is excellent, I might upgrade to that one myself.

    5. I have a Huawei p30 lite and I did get it for the camera a couple years ago in Canada, I absolutely love it. It has plenty of camera options that if you are already familiar with photography give you a lot of control like you could get with a traditional camera. I have not kept up to date with the situation with Huawei, however I remember it was already announced when I got this phone and it continues to work in the us with Google services. I can use the play store no problem.
I did a little research now. I guess you can still use their older phones no problem (pre early 2019)

    7. If you are looking for a phone with a good camera I’ve heard good things about the Samsung Galaxy.

    8. Just tossing in another positive vote for the Google pixel. My daughter had a pixel 5 & the camera was great. So when my phone required an update last spring I went with the pixel 6 as it's what was available. All my recent photo postings on DoA have been from it's photos since last summer.
Lots of great editing features, clear crisp photos with great responsiveness no matter how the lighting is inside or out.
      Good luck!

    9. @unoa_im_afreak ive had the phone in the past it is a good camera but I’ve noticed after a while my photo quality goes down after a new phone comes out same thing with iPhone. But idk maybe that’s changed now I don’t have the latest phone

    10. @cthulhu ohh that’s good to know I’m definitely going to look up reviews on it I never here anyone talk about this phone

    11. I've had a Huawei P20 (regular version, not lite or pro) for a while that I got before they stopped making them widely available here, and I'd say while the camera isn't anywhere close to as fancy as some of the newer, camera-focused phones, it does take high quality photos easily as long as you have good lighting. It's far more convenient than bringing out a DSLR, and I personally find the P20 is the android phone I've enjoyed the most in terms of it's general functions as well.

You could probably get a used P20 or P30 that was released before the Huawei 'ban' for somewhat cheaper than what they cost new, but I'm not really familiar with the phone market.

I think for what it is, it was a good choice, three or four years ago. For practicality reasons with future upgrades it would probably be better to go for one of the newer camera-focused phones like some of the ones people here have recommended.

I'm not looking forward to the day my P20 becomes too slow to use, and not being able to upgrade to a newer Huawei. I'm hoping it still has several years left going for it.
