Anyone have off-topic Hujoos?

Dec 23, 2016

    1. @FaededLines
      Talk about your hujoos here!

      Did anyone got into BJDs through Hujoos and want to share their collections?

      [Presumably] on-topic (resin) hujoos welcome too!

      Does anyone have an SD hujoo or their new Little Rose?

    2. I sold my minipin (the baby bunny) and mini Freya near the start of this year (I just couldn't bond with them, but at least I learned that dolls that small aren't for me) so unfortunately I no longer have any, but...

      I'm throwing my oar in though because I'd love to see a Little Rose if anyone has her! Especially next to other dolls for comparison. I like small dolls, but apparently I have line somewhere between "good small" and "too small". I can't figure out where Little Rose sits from the promotional pictures alone. XD

    3. Heck yeah I do.

      I have got:

      An orange Berry
      A minipin
      An Arthur

      Husband has a Berry and a Yomi and another Berry on the way.

      [IMG]

      this is my Minipin, his name is Fennic. He's a space pirate.

      [IMG]

      this is Lo'Gan, she is an orange Berry with a custom modded head crest. She's also a space pirate and hangs out with Fennic and a bunch of Makies.

      [IMG]

      And finally this is Arthur, who's MSD sized and was the start of my slippery slope into BJDs heheh.

    4. I've got Rose - not the mini version but she is cute and yes I'd like her too :whee: They're great dolls I think - a bit rougher finished than resin bjd but very poseable and surprisingly heavy - she's heavier than some resin ones I've got!

    5. right!?? My Arthur weighs a blooming ton! He's really really heavy to carry around while my Resinsoul is so light compared to him.
      I thought she'd be heavier because I always heard resin was heavy, but nope. Arthur is so much weightier.

      I'm so glad to see your Andrew--The dolls that got me into the hobby have a special place in my heart, and I love to see other members'. Your Hujoo Berry mod is the second I've seen that I really like: I think it must be something about her eye shape or size--those cat's eyes are perfect!

      @nattherat
      Right! Little Rose is such a cutie! I'm sorry you couldn't bond with your Hujoo, but I hope that little Rose is a Goldilocks "just right!"

      @elve
      Your Rose is pretty precious--she reminds me of the girls in Laura Ingall's Little House on the Prairie--She looks like she might like a little hobbit house like the Ingalls girls!

      Here is the girl that started it all (I've since sold my Hujoo Sara, Hujoo Andrew, and Hujoo Lily):
      [IMG]

      For some reason, the Hujoos I keep tend to be robots. I was way more relaxed in making her stuff because she's supposed to be a robot--no need for human realism. She's a bit of a diva.

      [IMG]

      Here's her (Pixel) in one of her troll-hair wigs with a crochet cap:

    7. I sold my Hujoo phoebe because she didn't really fit in with my group sizewise, and she wasn't getting much attention. The fact that she could wear regular fashion doll clothes was pretty cool. Qualitywise, I thought she was pretty great :)

      [IMG]IMG_3459 by Allouetta, on Flickr

      My mini freya is my baby though. <3 I need to give him a new faceup

    8. @Aliyahbetd

      Aww! Your tiny Freya is so cute! I like the styled form of the mouse too! You just reminded me I have a Hujoo dog around here somewhere...

    9. I'm new to the BJD community and as I'm just starting out I only have a Hujoo Phoebe doll and plan on getting another Hujoo that is in the SD size to see if I like the SD size more than the YOSD size that I have now. This is a picture of my girl that I colored myself. She's a Dedenne(Pokemon).

    10. thanks :D that's a great idea for styling your girls as robots - I'm not at all creative with my dolls :blush

      oh they are so adorable I love them both :D angelesque doesn't seem to deal for half of hujoos dolls for some reason, and importing from America is expensive in the UK - I'd love a nano Freya especially

      she's lovely - great style :D

    11. Freya is my first baby!! <3
      She's gone through 2 face ups and I'll probably redo it again in the new year because I'm still not 100% happy! She's also been restrung so I could fix her tail on...
      I have made all 3 of her wigs myself and will be making another soon, when I do my dreads, I'll make her some matching ones! Imgur: The most awesome images on the Internet

    12. @hkfdac
      I like your Dedenne! I had a friend who was obsessed with Pokemon when I was younger--the characters are so sweet!

      I have a Hujoo (dog) inspired from one of my favorite characters from childhood--one from Animal Crossing:

      Here's my dog Hujoo (who I originally thought was a cat) Ankha
      [IMG]

      I originally thought she was a cat (duh, that's Freya), and made her to look like this girl:
      [IMG]

      @elve

      I'm not sure it's creativity--I just didn't think they looked realistic enough to be human. I can't show my other robot girl because she's not with me right now, but she appreciates the love!

      @Atomic Winter
      She reminds me of this famous girl: Pre-Raphaelite Waterhouse Circe

    13. @americanseamstress haha that's awesome! How come she reminds you of the painting? It's awesome, but random!

      • x 1
    14. @Atomic_Winter
      I think it's a combination of the intensity of her gaze and that picture with the large ball Christmas ornament--it reminds me of the mirrors that the sorceress is depicted with.

    15. I just got a 24cm Freyr for Christmas. He was actually one of the first dolls that caught my eye back when I started to become interested in BJDs a few years ago. I've wanted him every since and finally have him!
      I love him so much! I'm already thinking about ordering a Sara as well. :)

      • x 1
    16. @SaelaVe
      Those tinies are very cute! I had a Sara--my favorite part about her was her lips. When I painted her up, they reminded me of that of silent film stars, for some reason!

    17. @americanseamstress I just ordered her! :whee: I love the way that her mouth is sculpted! It's one of the things that first drew me to her. I can't wait for her to get here!

    18. I like my cute hujoos. I got a Dana (MSD size), Berry (26) and 2 Bunny and the new tiny Rose with 15cm which isn't finished yet.
      The cheaper ones like Berry or the bunnys are very light weight but Dana is heavy like my resin BJDs. The gear joints are nicebut I think I prefer the normal joints. The newRose has in some joints rubber attached to the joints so she can hold poses better. She is a masterpice of construciton.. itty bitty tiny peanut joints in this size *-*
      Here is my Dana

    20. @SteffiPuschel

      I woule love to see your Little Rose (especially the new joints), if you have pictures! It looks from the company pictures that the proportion between body and head is different from that of Rose (v. Little Rose)

      @Atomic_Winter
      Like if the sorceress Circe were an Animal Crossing character, she would look like that!

    21. ooh she's beautiful - love the way you've styled her too :D And yes please I'd love to see the mini Rose - I've got the normal sized one and she's so cute

      • x 1
    22. I most definitely will. She shipped this morning, so she should hopefully be here by the end of the week. :dance

      @SteffiPuschel Your Dana is gorgeous! :love

      • x 1
    23. Thank you. I just finished her wig. I couldnt find wigs in her size that i like. Now im about to make her eyes and she need a faceup and clothes too. If you want a short body review or some poses i can do for you. Atm she is headless and far away from being finished

    24. I love all the pretty doll pictures everyone is posting! I just got a new dress for my Dedenne doll and it has Pokeballs on it! She looks adorable in it!

    25. @SaelaVe

      That's super exciting to have a package about to arrive!

      @SteffiPuschel
      You made the wig? It looks very professionally done! How do you plan to make the eyes? (I just bought a silicone mold making kit to try one method, and I am eager to learn what works for others.)

      @hkfdac
      That dress is perfect! Did you make it? I love the fabric!

    26. No, some one was nice enough to give me a SD sized skirt and I just added a ribbon to keep it on her.

    27. @hkfdac

      I wouldn't have known without you telling me. Clearly, with the fabric, it's as if it were make for her!

    28. Not the one shown above. The one for rose because she had 3-4 as size and ive never show it here

    29. @SteffiPuschel

      I'm sorry--I misunderstood. I thought you were talking about the wig in the image above. (I'd like to see the one you actually made too!)

    30. Guys... I'm already thinking about getting a Chocolate Suve, too. :sweat
      Help me, I've become obsessed! LOL

      • x 1
    31. @SaelaVe
      They are addictive, aren't they! There's something about the company that uniformly appeals to me--even the dolls I wouldn't buy for myself (got to have restrictions in this hobby somewhere) are just too cute!

    32. @americanseamstress I completely agree. This is the first time that I've bought a BJD and instantly wanted more from the same company!

      • x 1
    33. I had a Hujoo Dana, Freya, Freyr, and Nano Freya that glowed in the dark, but they became toast in a fire. Luckily, my Chicaloca survived and I'm ever so happy because she has the prettiest face I have ever seen.

      • x 1
    34. Just have this tiny one when i waited to let it dry since poor rose is currently headless

      [IMG]

      It is made out of Soy

      • x 1
    35. @SteffiPuschel
      That wig looks really good! Im terrible at making wigs on heads that tiny. Your doll is adorable!

      How did you like the soy? Can you get it wet? I wet some rayon fiber and it was frizzed and crunchy afterward.

      @TwilightFox
      I'm so sorry about your dolls! I hope you are ok from the fire too! Chicaloca is super cute--she reminds me of Dollshe Orijean

    36. I like it. It is soft and fluffy but natrual fibers came in strands so you need to pull them little by little to get them even at the beginning if you understand what i mean. Actually I've never tried to make it wet
      I bought it after seeing this
      Plant Fiber Comparison for Doll Wigs
      She dyed it so I guess it could get wet

      Here is my Berry. Faceup and dress is done by me. Actually I made it for my Pullips but the wear the same size ^^
      [IMG]

      • x 1
    37. @TwilightFox I'm so sorry to hear that. :(

      @SteffiPuschel Your Berry is so cute! And she wears the same size as Pullips you say? That's good to know. :kitty2

    38. Thank you 2. Yes only the hands are bigger so shirt with super tiny armwholes wouldnt fit and socks also because of the bigger feed

    39. Here's the doll I'm most proud of right now, although she's not anywhere near finished. The lighting is pretty bad, but I wanted to share her somewhere. I dyed her blue so her vinyl inserts couldn't stain any darker.

      This is Lapis, my Hujoo Io/Pullip Isul hybrid:
      [IMG]

      Here eyechips, hands (joint), feet (bottom and joint), and scalp are magnetic:
      [IMG]

      This makes her eyecolor, as well as eye position, interchangeable (I have multiple colored eyechips), her hands and feet removeable (for dressing), and she should be able to stand on a metal surface (due to the additional magnets in the bottom of her feet). Her hands are not quite complete, as eventually, the white cuffs shown in these images will fit into a dyed abs plastic sleeve.

    40. Ooooo! She is immensely cool, @americanseamstress!
      I love the modifications that you made to her! And the dye job looks incredible—really even!

      My Sara arrived today! :sumomo: OMG I am so in love with her! I can't wait to start working on her face-up. I think that I'm going to do a kind of Pullip style on her, rather than the "realistic" style that I've done in the past.

    41. Wow. How did you get the head on the body? Isuls have a really tiny neckwhole. Looks really interesting

      Congratulations for your sara. She is really pretty

    42. @SaelaVe

      Thank you. Darker dye jobs with iDye Poly are easier to get even. I love Sara's little pout, and I always had a weird attachment to how her shoulders were seated in the torso.

      @SteffiPuschel
      I used Requiemart's Big Pullip tutorial, which involves carving into the hole in the head to make it bigger. Then I made a faceplate and headback system with Milliput like Unoa.

    43. @SteffiPuschel Thank you. ^_^

      @americanseamstress Have you had any problems with the dye seeping back out of the doll's body? Back when I used to customize My Little Ponies I had terrible problems any time that I dyed them with the dye leaking back out and staining my paint work. I've been hesitant to try dying dollies because of it.

    44. @SaelaVe
      I have had no problems with the dye coming out from the ABS Plastic.

      The vinyl, however, has colored my hands and the elastic (I think the vinyl used for the joint kips is not compatible with disperse dye. For my other dyed ABS resin (without vinyl) and my resin dolls, there is no discoloration of the elastic.

      However, I've been able to dye other vinyl with disperse dye, and it worked fine, and did not discolor my hands, so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯. (It means that the two "vinyl" plastics are actually different, but I have no idea how vinyls--if they are indeed types of vinyl--are distinguished.)

      However, I would hesitate to call this "seeping," as the dye does not actually bind to whatever it comes of on (think sort of how jeans or chalk pastel powder will "rub off" on things--there's no bond forming between the dye/chalk and the new surface, it just sticks because the molecules get caught on something). (It doesn't help that i get terribly scaly in the winter.)

      Because it is not really "seeping," and rather rubbing off, it can be buffed off the surface it contacts, assuming that surface is dense/impermeable enough (not porous).

      This "rub off" only occurs with extreme force (like that required to restring the doll using the elastic it originally came strung with. (Hujoo strings their SDs very tightly.)

      So long as the disperse dye can actually integrate and soak very far into the synthetic polymer (like ABS or resin, and some vinyl), there will be no "rub off," because the dye is stuck (assuming you rinse off the excess dye from the doll beforehand).

      This is actually why disperse dyes (iDye Poly, Rit Dyemore, ProChem PROdisperse) are so important for ABS and resin--other dyes will not bond or associate with the plastic and can rub off later.

      Although no dye to my knowledge will chemically react with the resin/vinyl/ABS plastic to melt/deform it long-term, dyes like normal Rit (as opposed to Rit Dyemore), which contain lots of something called a "substantive" dye, will actually seep, in the strictest sense.

      In this case, by seep, I mean that if the doll+dye is contacted by something wet and polar (slightly charged--like water), and there is enough dye on it, the dye can actually wash off. I've never had this happen with resin, but I have done it with fabric, and it's very annoying. I included this because perhaps the dye you used for the My Little Pony didn't actually soak into the plastic, and that's why you were noticing "seeping."

      However, I'm not actually sure I answered your question: I answered a question about the dye rubbing off on other things, not "seeping" through and messing with an acrylic paint or chalk pastel faceup, which could also be what you are referencing. Since disperse dye doesn't like the type of medium acrylic paint and watercolor are usually dissolved with (something polar), and I don't think the dye chemically reacts with much, it should not react with a faceup. Supporting this, I have not noticed any reaction with my faceups.

      Do you have pictures? I/We would love to see!

    47. @americanseamstress Thank you so, so much! That was a wealth of information! And you absolutely answered my question. It seems like my mistake was in the type of Rit that I used. But now I know exactly what to look for next time! :thumbup

      My Sara has her face. I have changed her lips since taking this photo. They're now a much paler pink that looks more natural.
      Now comes the task of finding a nice wig for her.

      I hope it was helpful!

      I love your Sara's faceup style!--Those eyebrows are fantastic!

      I'd love to see pictures of her put together with new lips, or when you get her wig!

    49. @americanseamstress Thank you so much. :kitty2 I will definitely post more photos when she's finished. Or at least closer to being finished, depending on how long it takes me to find or make a wig for her. I might just slap a hat on her and snap a few more pics. LOL

      Your Freya is so cute! I used to have a white cat like that who would let me dress him up in American Girl dresses, push him around in a child's grocery cart, and sit with me at tea parties.

      Yours seems very pleased with their outfit!

      I like baby Suve--I heard that Hujoo updated the baby body: is that it?

      I love your Sara--with that hair she reminds me of Maisie Williams from Game of Thrones

    54. It is. :) It has double-jointed elbows and knees, femoral joints, and floating cups inside the shoulder joints. ...I think that those are the only changes between version 1 and version 2.
      It's pretty nice, but a bit wobbily. It can be put into a lot of poses, but it doesn't want to hold any of them very well. Then again, I think mine might be strung kind of loosely, so that probably has a lot to do with it, too. :sweat

      OMG I can so see that!
      And thank you. :blush

    55. Got a quick question for Freya/Freyr owners. Has anyone tried to sand off the little tabs inside the neck joint of their head? They're very restrictive and make movement of the head difficult and wonky. I'm wondering if his head would move a lot smoother if I were to remove them... Or if it would cause some unforeseen problem with movement. :/

    56. I thought I posted in here? I guess I didnt! My first bjd was a freya. I'm a bit clumsy so my thinking was "I'll get something that won't break if I drop it and if I can make it through a few months with nothing happening I'll get myself a resin doll!" Needless to say I have resin dolls now haha.
      Anyway her name is Quintessa, Quin for short. I brought her to my dorm, here she is:
