Anyone going to Doll North (Toronto, Canada)? May 27-29

Dec 23, 2015

    1. Is anyone going to Anime North (Doll North) in Toronto?

    2. I am staff at Doll North so I will definitely be there ^^

    3. I'm considering it! I just have to figure out my schedule and such before then.

    4. I go to regular Anime North every year and I was able to drag my friends with me to Doll North last year. So, for this year I'll certainly try haha (friends do not like the steep hill way to get to the building OR the other long way around). I haven't got my ticket yet but I have an eye on the eventbrite page. I'm hoping to hold out until I get paid next week but if it starts getting to dangerously low numbers I'll just have to bite the bullet.

    5. I'm hoping to get to Anime North this year, and I might look in on DN

    6. I'm planning on going to Doll North this year! I was there last year as a vendor--started making clothes for my friends' dolls, but didn't even have my own! After DN, I pretty much caved and got a few of my own dollies to play with~

    7. Yup! DN is the only place where I get impulse buys haha!

    8. Yep I'll be there on Saturday =3

    9. Yay! so many people going !

    10. I'll be there!
I'm deff looking forward to some workshops, make me some wigs yo

    11. I just want to buy clothing! and maybe a doll

    12. Doll North is one of the main attractions for me to attend Anime North these days. I'm rather excited to be showing off my little tentacled wonder (finally).

    13. Always at DollNorth as well! See you all there. :D

    14. I'm hopping to go this year this would be my 1st Doll North :D
i have a silly question do i buy an anime North pass or is there a diffrent pass i need to purchase?

    15. ^If I end up going, it'll be my first time too! :D I think you can get in with the same AN pass but again, I've never gone.

How do you get to Doll North anyway? I heard there's a steep walk uphill...

    16. Oh! I did not know that i will make sure to wear some good walking shoes! I'm looking at commuting to and from home like I normaly do for fan expo

    17. @dollyolly1 @la-toxic-schrei I went for the first time last year and your normal AN pass is all you need. And some walking shoes because yes there is a fairly steep hill. And also one of those small metal fence things that they have on the side of the road that you need to "hop" over. Granted I saw girls in full lolita coords trucking through like no one's business... Somehow. Personally I found every step to feel like I was about to fall...
There is a longer way around (which is actually how I went the first time) but it requires a bit of backtracking and if it's hot out... No way....
The map is super deceptive it looks like you just cross the street and you are there but noo... No. Well, yes... But it omits the hill.

    18. Naw boo boo
There's a steep hill you CAN walk down, but the actual aide walk goes the gentle way down
The steep part is a shortcut

    19. Entrance to all events, including Doll North requires an Anime North pass to the best of my knowledge.

I'll be there, not sure which day(s) though as I am staff at Cafe Nocturne at AN and need to work my con stuff around the Cafe stuff. I have no idea yet who'll be coming with me as I'll have several newer dolls (well, ones I've bought since the con last year) and some of them are not so commonly seen sculpts and I like to bring the ones that people don't see much of.

    20. I'll be there! Does anyone know if it's going to be in the same hotel as last year? I remember seeing some people at the adjoined restaurant with their dollies at some odd hour last year, and I thought it was very cute. This time I'll join you :P

    21. Haha, that may have been myself, @feral5, @Elzamine, @batchix and some other friends. I know we were hanging out at the restaurant at some really weird hour the one night.

I'm definitely going to be back again this year, tickets bought and hotel room already booked. I'm hoping to get a garage sale table as I have a lot of really great stuff to sell and just don't have the time or motivation to consistently maintain sales threads online these days. I'm really excited to see what vendors might show up this year. ED last year left me rolling in beautiful urethane eyes. If a company that sells a ton of wigs like Leeke showed up this year I would be so thrilled.

    22. This will be my 16th Anime North (I'm a little scared after counting that...) and now that Doll North is a thing, I always pop in and out. I'm not in the same hotel as Doll North this year, but I will be there. I *might* get a Marketplace table because I have a ton of stuff to clear out, but that will depend on the time it's being held, and whether everyone else beats me to it (the tables went insanely fast last year).

Short version is: Yes, I'll be there. But I also go to AN for everything else, so I won't be there all the time.

    23. I'm a DollNorth staff member for the first time this year so I will be there almost all the time. See you all there!

    24. I'm going for the second time this year and am also planning on going to more workshops and checking out Anime North for the first time.

    25. I've been invited to help out at doll north this year and i would LOVE to go, but unsure about how to find hotel accommodations for the weekend. Does anyone have any ideas?

    26. To anyone who was wondering: It looks like they're doing doll-north-only admissions this year, if you wanted to check out the dolly tables but weren't interested in the rest of the con. check it out

karliferling, here's there hotel list. I wish you the best of luck. My friends and I booked our hotel rooms months ago, and we still couldn't manage to get all the days we wanted (we had to forget about our usual Thursday night, oh well). There is this problem with people making reservations at multiple hotels and then cancelling the ones they don't want at the last minute. You might be able to go on the AN forums and find someone who's looking to split their room.

    27. I would think that if you're offering your time and helping out Doll North, there might be Doll North crash space or something? I'd ask the DN coordinators to see if there is such a thing, or ask for their advice on it.

    28. I know staff for the actual con can get rooms through the con so I don't see why not doll north folks...

    29. I'm intending to be there! Just trying to work out the details :)
I'm always happy to see everyone and to see some of my besties! <3

    30. So excited to see you! @feral5 and I miss your face. We definitely need to hang out more this year.

    31. There is usually inexpensive hotel accommodations for staff, so definitely check with the coordinator! There's always a way to make things work.

    32. I'm so happy that DN is doing their own ticket sales this year, now I won't have to worry about not being able to get into the con because the AN passes sell out so fast! I didn't get to go last year, but I hope to make it to at LEAST one day. My goal would be to get a weekend pass if I find I have the time ;) I'm hoping to have a few of my dolls finished in time so that I can bring them along with me hehe. I'm also really excited for the dolly market, I've always wanted to go shopping for my dolls IRL!

    33. Yup. Ive been going to AN for 14 years? Since getting into dolls I've never missed DN. I even bought my first doll at AN. I am always vending saturday and attending the sunday meet up.

    34. I bought tickets so i should be there unless something comes up!!

    35. 9th year at Anime North. This will make my 5th year at doll north specifically. I had a lot of fun with the project runway last year, so excited for that again this year. o v o

    36. got my tickets last night :D

    37. I wish I was. We've gone the last few years, but this year since we moved to Alberta, the cost of the trip (Mostly the hotels) is just too much. Which sucks because this would be my 10th year at AN in a row T_T
Ideally, we'll be back next year, maybe with a marketplace table at DN. Who knows.
I will admit I've found Anime North in general to be.. less worth it? as the years have gone by. Doll North is one of the main reasons we were still going. It's just so crowded and hard to get hotels.

    38. I'm hoping to go next year if I can. :)

    39. Hmm.. I didn't find the hop and walk too bad, but I do hope the vendor room at Doll North this year will be less... squished? My friend and I couldn't really look at tables at the same time. Just my 2¢

    40. Unfortunately, that's what happens when the con is trying to hide you in a hotel basement :P

    41. I'm hoping to go this year, I have no one to go with but I want to go!

    42. @aogabby Just go!! You can meet lots of people there~ ^^

    43. I'll be there for AN/DN. I do a lot of Cosplay Photography but I plan to take a break from all the photography to have some dollie time, probably mostly on Saturday. Trying to figure out who I'm going to bring of all of my girls is the hard part ><

    44. Hello there everyone! I've just written up an official news thread for Doll North 2016 here. Please keep an eye on it for important updates and information!! :D

For the questions I've seen in this thread so far:
      1. Yes, Doll North 2016 is still located in the Crowne Plaza Airport Hotel as it has been for the last few years. :D
      2. There are excited changes regarding the Doll North Market that will hopefully alleviate some concerns. <3
      3. Anime North DOES have a shuttle that should connect the Crowne Plaza to the rest of the major con hotels.
      4. Doll North will have Doll North-only weekend passes that can be purchased at the con (no pre-reg) and with cash only @ $30CAD. (These grant you access to the Crowne Plaza ONLY)
      5. If you have an Anime North pass of course you can come to Doll North. :D
      6. For anyone taking the short cut, PLEASE PLEASE be careful. We at Doll North do not recommend you taking unpaved routes due to traffic conditions during the weekend.

I hope to see lots of faces there! <3 I will be rushing around but if you see a stressed giant with blue glasses running around, please come say hi. <3

    45. I'm so excited for doll north this year! Do you guys know if I should save extra money for surprise doll dealers? I know I'm definitely saving for something from Merrydollround. I know I'll spoil my dollies and definitely have money for clothes.

Just remembering last years doll north and how much I spent. *gets hyped* I want to be prepared!

    46. Ahhhhh I'm sooooo excited! I'm neck deep in prep in the moment but I can't wait to see everyone! It's always a super fun weekend :D

      • x 1
    47. I would save any pennies you can. You never know what dealers and second hand sales will give you the opportunity to bring home.

    48. I would love to go to this, but I'm just wondering if there's a list of the vendors that will be there? I'm really only interested in Lati dolls, so I don't know if the drive is worth it if I can't get my hands on one :(

    49. I'm thinking of going, Toronto is not too far from NY and the tickets are affordable! This will be my first time going to DN.

    50. The Doll Market at this time is primarily filled with second-hand goods, artisans, professional artisans and our guest Merry Doll Round. It has been a very difficult year for doll companies to attend due to the low Canadian dollar and the many events they have interest in attending, some of which conflict with Doll North. I apologize that our Doll Market selection may not be as diverse this year in terms of Official Companies who are able to attend. We will do our best to fill the market space by continuing to send invitations as we have all year, and go above and beyond to make our market table prices affordable, and the Company's stay as comfortable as possible.

    51. I'm going for my first time this year! I'll be going probably just on Saturday. If anyone in the Ajax/Pickering area needs a ride or wants to carpool feel free to message me! :) (Here's to hoping someone lives close by me that I can be dolly friends with! x3 )

    52. I'm near by in the 'Shawa and I'll be at the con in general and definitely hitting up DN. I'm good for getting there though as I'm staff for Cafe Nocturne and will be there all weekend. There's a couple of us in this area of the GTA. There's a FB group for the GTA (and a forum, but that's nearly dead I think) and if you want to know when meets are, the FB group is your best bet. There was one just recently, actually. You can PM me if you want more details of it just so we don't hijack this thread.

    53. Im planning to go but legit the 3 other people i was supposed to go with have all dropped out one by one.
It was supposed to be my first year so Im pretty devestated..
But on the plus side if anyone here is still looking for a hotel or a con buddy or something i'll have plenty of space. QwQ

    54. I would love to go! It'd be my first time, but it'll depend on what summer job I get and figuring transportation etc as I'm in Kingston and don't drive. If not this year, I'll be planning far ahead for next year as I only found out about DN last month heh

    55. I heard you don't have to get tickets into Anime north for Doll north this year! I went as a yosd vender last year on Sunday but I won't be able to attend this year...

    56. I'd be interested in going but it will be my first time!
I was wondering if there will be any faceup artists there? And minifee clothes? :o

    57. Sewb, I'll have some items for MSD that fit Minifees :)

    58. I was also wondering if the special guests, or anyone else, would be offering faceup services. I know that the logistics with the building DN is in doesn't make it terribly practical, but I figured I'd ask anyway. I do have a head or two in bad need of new faces.

    59. @Sewb

I will have some slim MSD items that will fit Minifee at my booth, 'Petit Papillon'. Mostly corsets, dresses, bloomers, skirts, stockings, casual sweaters and other things as well. :)

    60. AHH! this is getting me excited, I've never been. i'm going for both anime north and doll north, I'm excited to see everything!
