Tutorial Anyone Can Sew: Jeans Tutorial (All sizes, Pattern Free)

Jul 24, 2008

    1. I used this to make some white linen shorts for my girl Lexi (RS Rong)! It was pretty easy to follow BUT I underestimated her bubble butt and they're a tad short in the back. Now I know for next time though! Once I get my DC Bella with her crazy measurements this tutorial is going to be invaluable, thanks so much for posting this, ragdoll!

      Now pics:

    2. I made these pants for Logan my RS Gang boy. I didn't put the denim look on the edge though.

Well when I originally started these I meant for them to be full length jeans, but um as you can see they didn't exactly turn out as such, however they are super cute :)

    4. Thanks for writing this up! I really appreciate the work you went through! For the record, the BBB MSD boy body is in the Thunder Thighs club. He's got some thick thighs that you need to make room in the measurements for.

But I had some reasonable success! My goal was to imitate those huge skater pants from the 90's. I think I need to go bigger. Or get some fabric that's less stiff. I used bottomweight for these. I have a pair in a satiny fabric in progress, I just need to find my matching thread.

      Here they are!

Apologies for the bad cell phone pics. I didn't wipe the lens off so there's a lot of glare.

    5. Thank you so much for this tutorial! I modified it a bit and made a pair of tights for one of my SD boys, Winter. I made them out of an ugly pair of jeggings (those crazy looking leggings that are printed to look like jeans) I found at a dollar store for 3 bucks. The pants came out awesome and I made a paper pattern of the cut pieces so I can make pants for him again without it taking quite so long.

I also made the scarf he's wearing in the picture tonight as well.

These were my fifth attempt at pants. I finally made a pair that I am proud of. ^_^ Thank you!

    7. wow! Its neat to see the different types of jeans and pants everyone makes, and this tutorial makes it so much easier to understand for someone (such as myself) who isn't....needle and thread savy ha.

(forgive the horrible cell phone picture)
These were my second attempt at pants, I didn't realize how big my girls booty was until the first pair didn't fit over her bum when she was sitting down :sweat. They aren't exactly finished, but I needed a break after the headache i got on making them fit snug around her bottom.

    8. [IMG]

My new boy has pants!! YAY! Still could use some improvement, but I'm much happier with them than I have been with previous pairs I've tried to do for different dolls.

    9. I'm so pleased with this tutorial. My Iplehouse Leona now has casual clothes (the top is made from the t-shirt tutorial too).

There are a few things I'd do differently next time - I made the jeans with quite a high waist and that made fitting them to her curves quite tricky (it's disguised in the photo, but the waist is still quite chunky and not properly fitted.) And the seat is too tight for her to sit down Oops. But still wearable and my next jeans will be better :)

    10. Thank you so much! With your tutorials, I was able to make the Baby his jammies!! You're awesome because of this!

    11. This Tutorial was awesome!! My Lysander finally has some real pants! I was even able to make all french seams on the brown cords! I havent sewn the snaps on yet though.

    12. Yay, I finally finished a pair! Here's Aram ;) :

      ...Though his stance... =_=;

    13. LOVE this tutorial! It can be hard to find clothes for these tall Dollshe guys so this was a real godsend. Here's my boy Jamais in the jeans I made for him (from old jeans of my own).

    14. Rinoa, the top should still be sort of flopping open when you're sewing the waistband on (as you presumably haven't sealed the front yet?), so you should be able to lay is flat(ish) and run it through the sewing machine. Or you could always sew it by hand; that's what I did. ^^''

      Speaking of which, here is a pic of some plaid skinny pants I made for my boy;

I'm not very good at sewing yet, and I had to do it all by hand because I don't have a machine here, but I'm happy with how they turned out (though these are my third attempt... orz). I still have to get a snap for the front, but other than that, they're done. (Sorry for the wretched picture; I'll post a better one when they're actually finished.)

The only problem I encountered... is that since the top of the jeans is a straight line (perpendicular to the legs) with this pattern, the jeans really ride down on his butt when he sits. I understand that he needs more fabric in the butt area to fix this... should I slant the top of the jeans upwards towards the back, or should I cut the pattern so that the crotch angle is lower in the back? For these, I just had a pattern that was symmetrical, and I know that needs to change, but I'm not sure how. Is slanting... the right move? x_x

    15. Just in case no one has mentioned it: tinyzippers.com, the source page mentioned in the tutorial, is now closed. All its materials are carried at ZipperThatDoll.com, which also has doll-scale Velcro and amazingly tiny buttons: http://www.zipperthatdoll.com/

    16. This is such a lovely tutorial than you so much.

    17. Thank you for your tutorial, I made a suit from scratch and couldnt for the life of me get the pants right! But after seeing this it came out perfect!

    18. Hey all :) just wondering if any of you could help! How do I get the distressed look near the top of the thighs? Where the leg creases and the denim lightens.

    19. Sandpaper, cheese grater, anything coarse :)

    20. Ooohhh! Thankyou draconicmaiden! Why did I not think of that lol!

    21. Aaa! I'm definitely going to have to save your tutorial so I can reference it when I'm working on pants for my love~ all prior attemps have been...iffy. This tutorial seems super user friendly though!!

    22. Love this. Pants are some of the hardest to make and it's all because of that darn crotch!

    31. I use your tutorial again to make shorts!
She's on a Dollzone body with large hips, so it was a bit difficult to adjust, but it worked!

    32. Thank you so much for this tutorial! Super helpful for someone with awkward doll sizes.

    33. I think your doll shorts are adorable and she looks great in them. Perfect for summer and isn't it nice this tutorial is still here? We should thank the Mods for not removing it.

    34. WOW! This tutorial is awesome! With only minor adjustments for giant manhood, I can attest that this works even in significantly bigger sizes...
My 90cm boy loves his new pants!

Miracle of miracles, he can even sit in these, with the fly still closed and his ass still covered!

    48. He looks amazing! Did you use a stretchy fabric for the skinny jeans? Can he pose alright with them or do they get stuck in the joints? They look really cool regardless, and he's such a cutie-pie!
