Tutorial Anyone Can Sew: Jeans Tutorial (All sizes, Pattern Free)

Jul 24, 2008

1. I thought I'd try my hand at sewing another pair of pants for Riley since AB is coming up soon, and they actually FIT her! And they look REALLY comfy.

I still have to sew the pockets up in the back.

2. [IMG]

not the best picture, i'll take a better one later now that my camera has batteries... this was taken on a cell phone, but she looks super cute in her jeans and slip on skull sneakers ^^

3. Finn's jeans didn't come out quite as nice as Arlian's... making jeans for blocky boys is way easier than for curvy girls! *_*
I added eyelets so her fly closes with a ribbon. Now she just needs a shirt. :sweat

4. Love the tutorial, Ragdoll! I love how intuitive you make sewing! It really helps me understand how patterns go together. Sewing the crotch was a great step that I don't think I could have ever figured out from a pattern. It took me a few tries, but I finally got a pretty decent pair of jeans.
Nysha's jeans are still a little wide at the waist, and I probably need to add another snap on her fly. I liked the look of the frayed edge of the fabric, which saved me a hemming step.

btw the corset is from Gracefaerie's Pattern #21 Corset for MSD, and I got lucky because the fabric was in my stash and perfectly matched her hair!

5. made audrey a pair of shorts! They came out fantastic! :D even worked out how to do the triangle thing! :D

6. A pic from me! THANKS for making this tutorial! The shirt was also made using your tutorial but I failed pretty bad =)

I like the shape over his butt. I actually concentrated on making them tight there. rawr.
I didn't hand-sew the... belt holders, or whatever you call them. I sew them completely on machine. So it IS possible. The only thing sewn by hand is the button and the invisible snap-on-buttons.

Feel free to put in the gallery =)

7. This tutorial is absolutely stellar! I've already made two pairs from the instructions, but I've only taken pictures of the first one so far. I've made both of them without the leg shaping, because I really like the straight leg look.
I made the jeans a little TOO low-rise, so I had to compensate with an extra-wide top hem. I actually like they way it turned out, though. Hooray for happy accidents. ;)

8. I've made two more things based on this tutorial. The first one is another pair of jeans, straight leg in stretch denim. I skipped the top part because I wanted a pair that wouldn't be visible underneath longish top (Still don't have any tops for my poor girl yet)
And then last night when I was browsing at (expensive) jeanskirts, I got the inspiration to use this tutorial to make a skirt. It's not by any means perfect, but it works and only cost me about 50 cents worth of fabric. I did the invisible-style hem on these two, and the velcro closure is in the back:
Apologies if this is a picture overload. :sweat

9. [IMG]

Some pants made following your tutorial. You may totally use this for the gallery if you wish. I need to sew pockets, though. :aheartbea

10. Thanks for the tutorial! I made some corduroy jeans.

11. Awesome tutorial! I am a rank beginner at sewing and it helped me make some bell-bottom bellydance inspired pants for Finn. Instead of sewing down the fold part on the sides like jeans, I just sewed it together partway down so it made a sort of pleat to add volume at the lower leg. This fabric wouldn't hold a crease anyway, LOL! (Please excuse the messy hair and scrap of fabric tied on instead of a top.)

12. This tutorial is a Godsend. This was the first time I made use of the sewing machine I received as a present a couple years ago.

Here's my lovely Ziadrine in his new jeans. Thank you so very much for making this tutorial! :aheartbea

13. Thanks so much for making these tutorials!! Because of your awesomeness I was finally able to make a decent pair of jeans for my girl that actually fit her properly. The shirt was made from your shirt tutorial as well. Again thanks soooo much for making these!!!

14. This was really helpful and so easy to make! I plan on making a ton more but for now here's a picture of my first set of Jeans!

Thank you very much!

15. hi, ragdoll! i made a pair of shorts with your tutorial. i didnt do the waistband, though 'cause it didnt need it. (:

16. Any special instructions I might need for a doll family pomelo? she's 33cm with a 17.5cm hip and very, very short legs.

17. hi, i love this tutorial! here's a pic of the jeans i made last night,
they still need to be fastened at the front but i am very pleased with them!
Thanks

18. Since I saw this thread ages ago, and I don't like, ever, sew.. I thought I'd try it..

and I was amazed.. it worked.. xD
Leander has some new pants.. and he can actually wear them.. I might add some more details later though..

Thanks for the tutorial :)

19. I had so much fun making a pair for Nika!!! :D I used my old charcoal grey jeans, the ones that went to My Chemical Romance concerts and back. The ones that I nearly cried over when they tore irepairably. T_T SO! I resurected them for Nika! ^_^

(OMG messy photo is messy... That's a vintage Fender P-Bass back there you know. ^_^)

The bottom hem was the original pant leg hem, because I'm lazy and didn't want to do another one. :p That and the legs of the jeans were the only parts I could use. ^^; These jeans had seen a lot of moshing...

20. Can't thank you enough for these tutorials! they're easy enough that even total beginners can turn out decent-looking stuff =)

Here's my Delf boy Komori in his first pair of jeans (made from an old prairie skirt of mine). I thought the worn spot added a nice touch of character, so I made sure to put it over the knee. =0

21. THANKS for this tutorial[&your other tuts, iloveyouxDDDD] Here's officially my first pants [i gave up on the 1st pair halfway; i was lazy :sweat] made from my ex-jeans xD It's got some faults&mistakes, but *shrugs* it was my 1st XD

Weeee, skinny jeans :aheartbea
[IMG]

22. I made a pair of shorts for my Narae! :) This is the second time I've used this tutorial, and certainly not the last. Thanks again for making it.

I put in "butt darts"...

That way, when she sits.... no crack! :D (Just her cute little butt dimples! Hahah)

And one more of the side.

25. Great tutorial!
I made my first pair tonight.... I definitely left myself lots of room for improvement ;) but I'm happy with my first attempt.

(Anna likes them a lot)

26. I just finished another pair! These are so much fun to make.
I made these ones wide-leg style and added a really wide waistband (partially because I didn't leave myself enough room at the top to cover Anna's bum, and partially because it looks neat)

(please excuse the safety-pin closure... I really need to go buy some snaps!)

27. PANTS!
Oh and if you wanna put either in the gallery that's cool ^_^

28. Hi all :D It's me again! I am armed with photos that my computer fortunately found unappetizing and let me have xD

Lynn, I think I know what you're talking about I will definitely try that next time ^_^ <3

So here are my pictures :D From what you see, should I take in the front, the back, or both? Or is it a different problem :o I'm afraid of taking away too much fabric and making them too small ;o; Thanks for the advice :D

29. This tutorial is great. I managed to make these shorts, but somehow managed to miss out loads of steps by mistake ^^'

31. Used the tutorial [again!] to make some pants for my new boy. I loooooooove this tutorial!

Blue jeans -
[IMG]

Cargo shorts -
[IMG]

32. ^_____________^ (bad phone pic :S but i as happy with them ^______________________^)

33. thankyou soo much ragdoll for your tutorial.
with your tutorial, I had made an emergency long pants for Ravine :)
I sew it by hands because I'm afraid with the sewing machine :atremblin

again, thanks alot :)

34. this was great. i did a few things differently because i stoped reading the intructions >.> but it all worked out! i added elastic to the back of the waist so they'd be a bit easier to put on, but a lot harder to sew XD
[IMG]
the wig and shirt are also from the no patern threads

35. My attempt at skinny jeans.

This was my first time ever using a sewing machine but I'm used to it now. :) I don't think I sewed them right but it's close enough.

36. Thank you for your tutorial!
I made a pair of jeans for my Limho Mono who has such strange measurments (thin waist, but big thigh, pointy hips...).

Here is my try (I still need to improve the fastener/button)

• x 1
37. I used it!
[IMG] [IMG]
Unfortunately, I absolutely fail at seam allowance, so they aren't the best fit. I also wish her thigh joints didn't bulge out so much. But other than my inability to add space for seams it was an awesome and easy tutorial.:)

38. Omg wow. I didn't think I'd ever be able to make pants. I just tired making a pair for my tiny and it worked :O
Now I need to make some jeans for my MSD. Thanks soooooo much!!!!!! ^_^

EDIT: Yay! They turned out better then I thought. Both pairs of pants were made with this tutorial. Nixie thinks shes a banana now >.>'''

(Sorry it's kinda big D: )

39. [IMG]"> love how easy it is ...thanks so much

40. DFS,
In step 6, I don't think it matters if the hemmed edge is away from you OR toward you. As long as the folds go in opposite directions, you're good! (when it's all done the creases basically fold back away from you when you look at the front of the pant) Also, when you pinch the crease toward the longer edge, it will be like you're cinching the extra width under the fold, and the crease will end up smack dab in the middle of the pant leg :) No longer sides anymore!

Using the Ragdoll method, I managed to hand sew some lovely baggy jeans on my Tiny Elf Nabiyette :D I love them <3
Now I gotta make jeans for my other dollies :o

41. Fantastic tutorial! I made Aidan some cargo shorts using it today. I had to hand sew them because my mum was using the sewing machine, but I think they turned out ok. I still need to iron them though!

42. Sewing this for a pukipuki is hard.

I just finished step seven and am not even sure i'm doing it right...

43. Well... i did it. *_*

I don't think i ever will again for a pukipuki. Just too small. :shudder
Still, thanks for the help everyone!!! :aheartbea

44. [IMG]

This is about the seventh or eight pair of jeans I've sewn using your tutorial. And this is the first pair I've gotten right, and am happy with. :aheartbea Summer shorts for my sweet Seele! <3 If I ever do a beach shoot with her swimsuit that's coming, she'll definitely use these shorts then. :3
So, thank you so much for this tutorial, Ragdoll! I can't tell you how much I appreciate your generous tutorials. ♥
And to everyone else, if you can't seem to get these pants right, don't give up! Practice, practice! Here's to successful sewing in the (hopefully near) future.~

(Sorry for the bad photo. ;o; )

45. Ragdoll, you're amazing. This is one of the best tutorials I've ever seen! I made the jeans last night. I'm going to post them on my Blog in a couple days (hope you don't mind) http://dollutional.blogspot.com. I'll credited you as the person who was kind enough to make this tutorial.

The Jeans fit (my hard to fit doll). I changed up the front stitching the fly and mock pockets. I added a little silver "snap".

46. Here are both of my boys in their pants. I made the pants for Andre (SD) roughly 2 years ago, but I just realized that I never posted pics of them to this thread, so I decided to post them now that I have just finished shorts for my Yo.

If you want a straight down style of pant, you should add extra so that you have room to cut some off of the leg without having to taper it. Here's a pic of what the shorts looked like after I had cut them to where I want. I had to hand sew the crotch because it was too small to fit in my machine.

Aaaand, no crack! For Andre's I just made his pants fairly high waisted and a bit loose around the waist when he's standing, but for the Yo's I took a leaf out of someone else's book (from this thread) and gave him pleats since he's got a fancier look anyway (can anyone see the folds I ironed into the shorts?).

Anywho, thanks again for this tutorial!

47. Thanks so much for this tutorial, it was pretty strait forward to follow and made a nice pair of shorts for my dollfie dream Anzu. I will defiantly make a longer pair at a later date!

48. I thought I posted my try at making pants for my FDoll Amber with this tutorial, but I guess not! I made the waist waaaaaay too big, so I added belt loops and used a ribbon as a belt. ^^; I got so confused at some points in the tutorial (like the weird fold thingy- I figured it out eventually thuogh!), I'm surprised I finished! But now I know what I'm doing (kinda-sorta), thanks so much! ♥

Here's Pepper and my first attempt at making pants!

Pepper has recently picked up a caffeine addiction...

THe shirt is also made from the Anyone Can Sew shirt tutorial! It's the easiest way to make shirts that I know of, and I like the way they come out!

49. Thanks for this tutorial.

I used it twice.
Yesterday for my Rosette Marguerite (these girls have impossible legs to dress).

50. geraaat tutorial.... made my resinsoul girl a skinny jens.... it was very hard, because she has such a big butt xD
but they fit her very well.... it's hard to make her sitting with these jenas but i think it's because of the thick jeans fabric xDDDDD
definately make another soon... =)

51. Thanks a lot for this tutorial! Here's the result:

I couldn't follow the instruction completely because
1-I just don't know how to sew :(
2-My main language is french
3-Those Pukifées are cute but very small!!!

Had to do a couple of attempts before it actually look like a jeans. But still, Im happy of the result! I guess the more I'll do, the better I'll get! :sweat

Thanks again!

52. Thank you again for this tutorial. I made some for my first doll back in 2008, and now I've made a pair for my newest girl... (sorry the photo is over exposed)

53. I've tried sewing pants for 60cm girls and 40cm girls to my horrible failure, and yet when I sew for a tiny little thing like Booker they come out fantastic. I just don't get it. XD

54. I followed this tutorial, and the fact that it doesn't need a pattern made it super easy for me! I hand-sewed everything since I don't know how to use my sewing machine yet. It has some few minor mistakes that I'll eventually get around to fixing, but I'm proud of how they turned out!

The symbol on the back pockets is OM, and once I figure out how to make real front pockets, I'll do so.

Now my Spiritdoll Proud v2 boy has pants that not only close but are too large! :)

55. Hi Ragdoll, thanks for this tutorial. I made my resinsoul dai, Misty Petal, a pair of light blue pants following the tute. It came out quite nice, but I miscalculated the length - so it is a 3/4 pants, and I need to enlarge the thigh area by about 1cm because it is a bit tight and fits skew. On the whole, I am pleased with it. I also made a t shirt...
