Anyone know of any artists that exist in the UK that order abroad? Is there a way to cast them in England? I feel that the amount of shipping and charges from ordering from China/Weiju would be more costly than a factory with higher production charges in England. I'm having trouble setting up my first line of kitties. The first concen is that the customs will fine me a crap load for the 50 dolls I'm going to order. IS there a way around this? If I claim I'm a business, they will take VAT off me too. I do want to sell my kitties and make some money off them to fund other dolly ideas but I have a feeling that everything is currently out to sap my potential profits. After a great reception at a dolly meet, I'm now motivated to put him into production. Any help appreciated.
If you sell your kitties would you not be able to claim the VAT and customs charges back on tax, especially if you sell them as export, to overseas customers?
You would be able to get part of the charges back on tax, that is, if British taxes works the same as Dutch, but you would still have to raise the price of your doll if you want to make profit. I don't know about a European casting service, with the skills to produce dolls, sorry. As I see it (you could read this in my thread): the only way to avoid all this tax-business is to produce your doll abroad and sell it abroad through a dealer. That way the finished product won't have to cross the border of your country. The doll should still cost more than when you'd live in an ideal world (because now you have to calculate the fee the dealer would want), but it probably will save you a lot of hassle. (lol, we could also join forces... seems like we're both held back by the same problems)
How about this place? (I'm nowhere near having anything to cast but I've casually looked into it). http://www.cmamoldform.co.uk I'm also loving the idea of a bunch of doll people getting together and starting a euro-based casting service.... Sadly, I have no casting skills or money to bring to this venture.
I've been having similar trouble - And I just want someone to make a junk cast, so that I can keep working on the joints without messing up my original. There was a company in Sheffield (http://www.easymould.co.uk/) that I got into a dialogue with, [email protected] is their email address, and the (possibly sole) person who works there is called Phil. They're an industrial patternmaker, making silicon moulds, and Phil seemed really interested in the whole idea of making resin dolls. Unfortunately, I moved house just as I was in the middle of talking to him and the dialogue dropped off.
