I’m located in UK and try to find a fit material to do face up for my dolls. I take any recommendations! Please help!
Hi! A good place to start is to decide what kind of sealant you want to use. Sealants protect the resin from staining and add tooth so the materials can stick. In general, you have 2 options: airbrush sealants (acrylic mediums) or spray-on sealants (typically lacquer aerosol products) I've only used airbrush sealants and can therefore only offer advice there. An airbrush setup is required (compressor and airbrush). Iwata makes a good range of double-action airbrushes. I believe Badger makes single-action airbrushes. Single-action airbrush is probably okay if you only want to use it to apply only sealant, but for fancy paint application on the faceup, double-action is probably the way to go. Double-action offers control on the amount of air released and the amount of paint is released. My favorite acrylic medium sealants are liquitex matte medium (diluted with distilled water) and Vallejo premium matte airbrush varnish ("premium" version doesn't need to be dilluted for the airbrush). After figuring out the sealant situation, the other materials needed are soft pastels and watercolor pencils and paints. For best results, use water-based materials(no oil paint or oil pastels). Student and budget-grade materials (like mungyo soft pastels) are great for starting out! I recommend Derwent watercolor pencils. I can continue to offer any advice if you need to troubleshoot any issues. I've been painting faceups since 2018 and am happy to help!

I’m in the UK, I’ve only recently started practicing my own faceups. I usually try to use Windsor and Newton, since they’re quite easily available in my local Range. I haven’t found a type of pastel I like, I really struggle with the blush and eye shadow side of things. For sealant I use 3-4 layers of Windsor and Newton Matt varnish applied with a makeup sponge. So far it’s worked for me but I still have lots of practice to do. There is lots of resources here and on YouTube for materials and the process.
I just started doing faceups, but I've been an artist my whole life so I already had a ton of materials. I was stoked to find out that soft pastel was the main ingredient since that was pretty much what I was already the most proficient with. I've gotten great results with soft pastel and gouache. The first lesson I learned was that having the right sealant is vital. I used some sort of matte varnish at first and the results were bad to say the least and I pretty much had to start back from square one. I got a can of Mr. Super Clear and it made SUCH a difference! It also makes a difference what quality of pastel you use. I reccomend pan pastel or Rembrandt brand, or if you're feeling super fancy and have deep pockets I would give Townsend a try. I have gotten amazing results with them but they are a little expensive. You can get them on the dick blick website.
thank you so much for linking the forum. I'm still figuring out how to navigate DOA & this was very helpful!
