Upstream the OP tells us that he is working on the beaded collar and armbands, and he just got a box full of micropleat fabric to make Anubis the wardrobe a god so richly deserves.
wow, he looks amazing! i love anubis, and think you've done him great justice ^_^ (also: semi-gloss would look really nice :3 )
I love that your Anubis isn't flat matte black; it makes him look more like flesh and blood. I'm looking forward to seeing this stunner completed.
I'm blown away by this project! I applaud your bravery in undertaking such an ambitious project, and your skill in making such a stunning character. ^__^
Good lord, Eff! Quite literally, in fact! Between this amazing creation & the Sphaler I really can't wait to get back to NY. There'd better be plans for a meet up in June cause I can't wait to see him in resin. And Happy Birthday by the way!!!
DOOOOOOOOO IT! You know you want to!...man I cannot wait to get all my werewolf bits together because I'll be using this thread like a bible!
Wow, you did a really amazong job. ♥ But I wonder: You sculped so much on the head. I bet, you also could have sculp a complete head, right? (That's no critic or so, I just wonder).
Hey everyone, I am still working on his outfit and hit a snag on the collar (someone moved all my jewellery making supplies is the issue) but his eyes finally arrived, and look just as disturbing as I hoped. In the meantime just to answer a few things, yes, I probably could sculpt a whole head, and may well do in the future, I think there is a distinct lack of anthrohead SD dolls out there There are noe official plans for Bast in the works, I am thinking a BBB Luna would be an interesting sculpt to start her on, make her small and delicate and ultra feminine...but we shall see
That is incredibly impressive, it's clear you've put an amazing amount of talent and work into him! I can't wait to see him garbed in his complete glory! I'll have to show my husband this thread, he's gaga about Egyptian mythology even more than I am (though not quite as enthusiastic about dolls) ^_^
Wow...this sculpt has given me much more confidence in my own modding and makes me want to go grab a doll and my dremel hehe
Oohh VictoriaVictrix that would be great! I think I willtoo though I do have another project I am tossing over at the moment too *coughs* and adults only one Oh and I have not forgotten your pattern, i am just a wee bit snowed under, thank god it is my day off tomorrow! Thanks everyone for the ongoing support, I should have his outfit finished tomorrow, the last piece left to do is his headress, everything else si now done, including several different kilts.
Generally I don't like mods cause I love the dolls the way they are, but OMG!!, you've done a wonderful job on this one. Congrats, you are very, very talented!! (Looking forward to see him complete)
Just found this thread, and wow! I've always had a thing for Egyptian gods, and you have done an amazing job in bringing him to life. I love the mods, and the dye and paint job are fabulous! Can't wait to see him finished.
What an amazing job! I'd like to see him in costume. About the paint job, how durable is this stuff? Perhaps it would be suitable for making a Drow elf. It would be an obvious solution since as far as I know there is no company selling black resin dolls. By which I mean pitchblack resin, not chocolate colour or dark brown. But sometimes the skincolour of a dyed doll fades (once saw a tiny that 'used' to be green and was now greenish). I know Bobobie for example dyes the resin through and through before casting, which would be preferable.
Holy carp, I just found this thread, and your mod work looks amaaaaazing~~! I'm contemplating making a mask that would look like an anthro head...for instance a falcon mask that one can slip on or off when needed. I dunno, it's just an idea I have since I'm iffy about making big changes to dolls, but I love anthro-ness. I would have to figure out a material to do such a thing... Anyways, I'm excited to see Anubis with his eyes and all dressed up!!
A good material for this, if you don't mind "a bit" fragile would be any of the paperclays. Otherwise, Apoxie Sculpt, or the same stuff used for this mod, which clearly is WONDERFUL (and a lot cheaper than APoxie) The Horus head looks as if it could be made as a cylinder-type mask that goes right over the head, much like a Hopi Kachina Dancer mask.
I saw this one for the first time today, without knowing he was a mod, and holy cow. "Soom" "No, Resinsoul." "...they make Anubis?" "Nope, heavily modded." ".....*jaw drop*". Or atleast that's pretty much the extent of the conversation. He's stunning. I like seeing the process.
I did wonder when you first posted this thread just how effective your planned head mod would be but now seeing how you did it I must say incredibly impressive work, well thought out and executed. I always find the inventiveness of modders fascinating. Love the ear detail btw! I like how the tan base gives the black dye a slightly bronzed look as it adds a bit more depth. The blushing you did on top lifts this even more. Looking forward to seeing him fully dressed and standing there in all his glory.
I'm pretty much echoing what everybody has already said about this project of yours. The end result is just amazing. He looks very much like the original pics you posted for reference. I can't wait to see him with his proper eyes in place and dressed as befitting a god. Will you also be adding some other props to his final costume as well (staff, ankh, etc.)? I have a curiosity question. With the extra weight added to his face for the muzzle and the ears on his head, does he have any problems standing unsupported?
i saw his picture in the Syracuse meet thread and thought he was a real deal company made doll XD I am very impressed ^^ can't wait to see him with some clothes on
Form start to end it is a very good mod. Are you going to mod his lower legs to more paws are keep them feet? I am just wondering. I see all of the love and care that you put into him he just looks wonderful I am so happy for you ^^
Wow. This is the most amazing mod I've seen. I adore ancient egyptian mythology. And I've never seen Anubis look so good. You've done an amazing job. I can't wait to see him in his outfit
I still can't believe how well modded he is. The pictures really don't do him much justice because he is even more flawless looking in person. I looooove it! ^-^ I had DB I think it was grab him out of Effigy's room at the last meet so he could rein over the tea party. Just, simply amazing. And if I remember right, he was sooo light weight but I was too afraid to hold him for more than a couple seconds. Not something you'd expect! Well done again, Nick.
Holy spongemonkies! This is what amazing mods are made of! I never ever ever would have imagined the way it would turn out when I started reading the thread. You did an excellent job! Anubis always was my favorite Egyptian god. :> Well, him or Bast. >_>
That is amazing. I just read through all your progress posts, and I wondered initially if his neck was too long (for my tastes), but the faceup just balance everything out. Well done; wonderful!
I can't believe I JUST found this thread.... I rather worship you at the moment. This is the best thing EVER!!!! Egyptian mythology is my favorite and I know so much about it and now I want a Sekhmet doll!!! I am so going to keep checking every day!!! I can't wait to see him with eyes and clothes!!! Is he going to have a staff or any weaponry at some point? I am SO in love!!!!!!!!!!!
I love him! Anubis is my favorite god and I'd love to have an Anubis doll or even a mask for Anin to wear. I can't wait to see him clothed and with eyes. Your sculpting is PERFECT on him.
Very interesting custom doll you have there! Anubis looks really "real" like and his ears are super cute.
Absolutely amazing job! He looks like a gorgeous boy, and like everyone else, I can't wait to see him finished!
Very, very cool! I can't believe how perfect he turned out! Please tell me you're doing Bast or Horus next! There are lots of cat-dolls out there, but none of them have the animalistics your Anubis has. Please, show more pictures!
OMG! How did I miss this thread entirely?? You have done simply AMAZING work! I can't wait to see him in his outfit with eyes and everything!
