Hybrids Anime style resin sculpts in 1/3?

Oct 21, 2024

    1. Does anyone know any companies that do resin anime-style sculpts (like volks vinyl dollfie dream type of sculpts, for reference, but in resin) in 1/3 scale?

I'm tentatively considering hybriding an anime style head onto a fairyland (F60) body but I'm not familiar with anime style sculpt makers in the resin side of the doll hobby. I know I've seen some talk about it so it definitely exists somewhere.
I'm not that concerned about resin colour match as long as the scale is ok and the neck size is close enough.

I've been kind of flip flopping between getting a vinyl doll or a resin doll to shell my OC who I think would look best with an anime-style sculpt, but I think I generally prefer the strengths of resin (stain resistance and body parts not popping off, mostly) over vinyl with internal skeleton. If there's no good options in resin though I will most likely go with a DD I think.

    2. There was a company Blue Blood Doll that made boys that had I believe looked anime like. Then they worked with His Doll and created girls with anime type heads and beautiful bodies I have only see them able to do. My grand daughter and I own two Blue Blood boys and she has a GenX - His Doll girl. All SD size, sometimes you can find them second hand here or eBay.

Laura now, used to be Marisha. She's a GenX and Jie Doll, I forgot her sculpt name.
The other Blue Blood Doll is also a Silver, his name is Travis.

    3. There's been more and more resin anime dolls coming up in the recent years so there definitely are options - Evantasy, Fukadoll and Sqlab (now sold by Sadol) are the first ones that pop to mind for me.

      Edit to add:
Luts has two anime-style senior delfs and Vings makes some anime-style boy heads.

    4. 2D doll used to make all sorts of resin anime girls. I bet you could find them secondhand!

    5. Check out dealers like LegendDoll and Jane's Dolland, I find they pick up indie Chinese artists who make anime-style dolls in all kinds of sizes.

I'd also suggest keeping an eye on Guard Love, they released their first 1/3 girl earlier this year and she's anime style

    6. Seconding SQLab. They have a wide range of 1/3 anime heads as well as a selection of yoSD anime heads. You can order them through Sadol or Luts websites.

    7. I really like FukaDoll. They’re excellent quality and nicely engineered. They currently have a range of five different heads, but you’ll have to wait for an ordering period as they are not a big company. Worth waiting for one IMO. I believe they were meant from the start to be able to wear DD clothing, but I’ll confess that I haven’t actually gotten around to dressing my girl in any of the many Volks outfits I’ve bought her to verify that yet. :sweat

Evantasy is good too, and you don’t have to wait for an ordering period, but double check the body measurements. The 62cm body is quite hefty and won’t necessarily fit much premade clothing. I don’t know if they slimmed up the 60cm body to be more in line with DD measurements or not because I decided I prefer the FukaDoll body in any event.

BOTH companies offer a range of skintones which seem to be in line with DD colours, but I don’t actually have any DDs to be able to make an in-person judgment of how close they are.

    8. Do they not sell them new anymore? Dora in particular is a cute sculpt that I think might work for my character (although it might be a bit too round faced). Thanks for the rec!

The Gaurd Love sculpt is quite cute! I'll keep an eye out for any new ones they release.

I checked out Fukadoll, but I'm having a hard time finding info on Evantasy... I did see a thread where it was mentioned their resin matches well with Fairyland which is great news for me, but even on their Weibo I can't find many sources for sculpt pictures.

Fukadoll has some really cute sculpts! I really like their aesthetic, here's to hoping they release a head that works for my character eventually.

I checked them out and they do have a nice selection! Didn't see anything that matched well enough for my character (I think the eyes are just too low down on most) but I'll watch their releases in case anything comes out.

    9. Looks like RaMcube hasn't been mentioned yet. They make delightful anime boy heads, all the ones numbered "NO.00X" (they don't have given names).

    10. I've seen people place vinyl heads onto resin bodies before - you need to add a washer beneath the s-hook to protect the vinyl, but otherwise the process is the same as attaching a resin head.

Some discussions about it: one, two

    11. I like the unique styling they went for! If I ever decide to shell one of my male characters I'll keep them in mind.

I remember reading about this before actually, but I recall being warned that the tension of the elastic would most likely crack the vinyl head (?) if left on for any extended period even with a washer:? Neither thread really has images of successful DD/resin hybrids in the long term so I'm still a bit wary but I do really like this idea as there's several DD heads I like a lot for my character.
It would be pretty financially (and emotionally tbh) devastating to lose a customized head to cracked vinyl but I'm not sure how worried about that I should be?

    12. I've never tried this combination so I can't tell you any more unfortunately. The cracking likely occurs around the neck hole, where tension is greatest, rather than the face.

You could choose a body like UFDoll which is strung, but made of lightweight plastic rather than resin. The tension will be low enough not to harm the vinyl. They've got a 60cm anime girl body for preorder (link) and they do 70cm boys, 1/4 girls and boys as well.

    13. I'm mainly interested in using a FL body for the magnet wrist and ankle joints system (and I just like their body aesthetics a lot) but if the risk to vinyl is that high, I'll probably just use a DD body if I end up choosing a DD head. Thank you for the recommendation regardless!

    14. SQ-Lab and Fukadoll are what comes to mind first, if it helps I do own a SQ-Lab/Dollfie Hybrid! The neck hole of SQ-Lab heads is specifically designed for Vinyl doll neck pegs (Volks or Obitsu) if you want to put a hook in there you'll have to mod it.
Here's Louisa, she's a Tsubaki sculpt on a DDdy body:
