Anime Detour March 2019 (Minneapolis, MN)

Feb 4, 2019

    1. I may as well get this thread going! The schedule isn't out yet, but the usual pair of introductory/meet and greet panels will be happening again this year, and I'll post the times as soon as the schedule is out.

I'm planning to redo my presentation this year to try to make it more interactive, and I'll also be bringing some fun little giveaway items for this year. The details are still being finalized, but as a hint, it's something I had to get written permission to move forward on. The details and written permission are all finalized now, and the design is ready to be ordered this weekend. :)

I'm planning to get two each of the giveaway items in 70cm, SD, MSD, and YoSD sizes. Does this sound like a good selection?

      BJD panels/meets:

      BJD Q&A: A Ball-Jointed Dolls Primer

What are those fancy dolls you see people carrying around? I'll do my best to answer questions in this educational panel about the ball-jointed doll hobby.

Bring your Asian ball jointed dolls for show and tell.

    2. I have another question (as we wait for Programming to finalize the schedule :) )--I'm planning to squeeze in redoing the presentation part of the panel before the con, and I'd love to know what topics you'd like to hear about!

I'd also love some suggestions on how to distribute tickets to win the giveaway items. I plan to give everyone one or two tickets at the start of the panel, but I'm also curious about ways to give out extras (and if people think that's a good idea).

    3. I think giving everyone a ticket when they enter is a good idea so everyone has a fair chance to win. Giving out extra tickets would make the odds less even. If you want to do extra tickets, I think it would be good if there are a lot of opportunities to get extra tickets and a limit on total number of tickets one can have (maybe attendees can only get one additional ticket), which would keep the odds of winning pretty even across the group. Trivia questions about dolls or material from the presentation would be a good way to keep the attendees engaged and give out tickets. I'd just be concerned about making sure people who are brand new to bjd are able to answer as well so they don't feel excluded (questions about the presentation would help with this). Alternatively, giving out only a couple extra tickets would keep the odds pretty even as well.

    4. Thank you for the input! I might just keep it to giving everyone a couple of tickets (so you can be in a drawing for more than one size) when they come in to try to keep things fair and even. :)

    5. Just for fun, I figured I'd let everyone know I ordered the giveaway items. :) They'll be special tshirts just for this event, and I'll be continuing to keep the design under wraps because it was actually provided from the Merchandise department (which means they'll have matching items for sale this year)! I'd kind of hoped to get the actual shirt artwork, but we weren't sure the doll shirts would arrive in time, so we picked another design that looks awesome in mock-ups.

    6. Updated the first post with my panel's time; once I can see the programming grid, I'll add any other panels. :)

    7. Updated with the other panel!

And the giveaways for mine arrived! Yay! One size got misprinted, and is being remade, but since I'm doubtful they'll be done in time, I'll give out the misprints and work out with the winners how I'll get them the replacements after con. :)

    8. Woooo!!

I'm really looking forward to Detour this year. Just gotta decide which dolls to bring!

    9. I swear, that's always the hardest question! I'm still deciding who makes the final cut, too.

Other than the two Delf boys. They're my only big guys, so they get to come to the panel by default. :)
