      Pre-Animania:

        • The training sessions are compulsory so that you learn about Animania, your role, the venue, what to do in case of emergency and just to get to know others
      During Animania:

      • Set up on the day
        • Involves arriving early on the day or possibly the day before if time permits
        Supervision on the day
        • Making sure no random people get too touchy feely with the dolls or keeping crazy weapon wielding cosplayers away
      Post Animania:

      • After Party
      Perks:
You will be surrounded by so many many beautiful dolls all day~
You get free entry and you will be fed~
You are allowed breaks and we will try to accomodate you if you want to see/participate in a particular event.

      Bummer:
It will be full commitment to the event, you should be prepared to attend the training sessions and both days of the main Animania Sydney Festival.
You are allowed to participate in competitions, however you are NOT allowed to win prizes.

I hope i have not scared you off with all this.
That is all that i can think of for the moment. I may have missed out on something... but if you do have any questions feel free to contact me or post them here.

On another note, feel free to contact me if you have any suggestions and/or ideas for Animania's ABJD Section :D
      Competitions, themes, displays, etc etc

      Crossposted at http://www.faireground.com/forum/index.php

    2. Good luck - its a bit far for me to make the committment, but I might come and visit the bjd section!

    3. Ideas and suggestions are also welcome~
If there is something you want to see at Animania, i will try my best to make it happen.

    4. I'm very interested in volunteering! I have a friend who is also very interested but she's not on DoA yet.
In fact, we can definitely volunteer, even with the prep and committment. =D /nolives

    5. Thank you for your interest~ :D
      I've just PM'ed you regarding what is happening so far ^^;;

    11. apple-pai, maybe you should edit the first post with the info & link so people can see it? XD

    12. apple-pai and limedragon thank you both for all you info about Animania. I will try very hard to get there and see the BJD section, unfortunately I can't commit to volunteer anymore (I have two very young children, that take up most if not all of my time).
Are there things to buy in the BJD section or is it just to look at - sorry I don't know much about Animania or SMASH, I am still very new to the BJD world and only just learning about what is out there (online included).

    13. queen-meena> It's ok! I totally understand ^^ I hope you can make it to Animania :D

From what I know there will be no bjd dealers at this time. Usually we just have a display table and people bring their dolls to display on the table :) If you're interested, here are some photos I took of the table earlier in the year ^^

      ------
I posted this in the Aus thread but incase anyone doesn't know:

Animania Pre Sales tickets are now available!

Deadline for presales is the 19th of August

      Got Ideas for Panels?
Peggy and I are still deciding on what sort of panels we should do, so please free to post here or pm either one of us if you have any ideas or suggestions :]

    14. I would love to volunteer, but unfortunately i'm not 18 yet :\
Have you got a Fashion panel yet? ;)

    15. limedragon > thank you for the info and the photos, they are great!!

...so do you just bring your dolls with you on the day if you want to display them?

    16. Oh, that's interesting. What sort of fashion panel? Making/buying? Themed?

Yup, just turn up with your doll. We will require you to register them in on the day and then sign them out once you remove them.

    17. you could do lots for a fashion panel, because fashion is such a broad topic, especially all the different street fashions of Japan (e.g. lolita, gyaru, decora, mori girl, fairy-kei, visual-kei, etc.) You could have a fashion runway and showcase these fashions. Or maybe, as an add on to that, there could be a competition and have people enter, to compete for a prize for the best co-ord. You could also have the judges or whatever, go through the basics of each fashion or something like that? Of course, the options for this panel is endless ;)

    18. Ahh how specific! lol XD Actually we already have a bjd dress up competition related to the theme of the display table, Peggy will post the details and requirements very soon! :D

Are you talking about fashion in general? Because (unfortunately?) we have to related it to bjds ^^ Personally on the topic I was thinking we could discuss whether people prefer to buy or sew clothing for their bjds, if they have certain ways/styles to dress up their dolls and where they get inspiration from etc :)

    19. Yeah, I was talking more about fashion in general :sweat, but yeah, I think it would be a great idea to discuss about buying or sewing clothes for bjds :D
Have you heard about InnoSera? it's a ABJD convention in the states (i think), but they played bingo at their panel, so that was fun :D

But I like the bjd dress up competition! :D

    20. Thank you, I may have an outing with my tinys then.

    21. Haha, it's ok! ^^ I might not sure what other panels will be on the day since Peggy and I are only in charge of the BJD section. But maybe there is a panel like that on the day hosted by someone else C:

I'm not sure about that con, but I'll check them out.

queen-meena> I hope you do, the more dolls the better! :D Feel free to stay around the doll table to chat with us and other doll owners ^^ That's what usually happens lol.

    22. :P oh wells good luck with the panel :D

    23. Hi YEMiliee,
InnoSera does sound interesting, I like the look of it!!! Because Animania is a convention that encompasses so many different areas, limedragon and I am only responsible for a small fraction of the entire Festival. There will be games there, don't you worry, the hugely popular is Cosplay Chess (Keep an eye out for that in the cosplay section, you are required to be in costume and may have to register early for good positions!)
There is a panels co ordinator, so maybe we shall have a chat to them and see what other departments have in store!

Yes, queen-meena, i muchly look forward to seeing your tinies! They can meet mine and have a tinies take over situation.

    24. Cool :D I'm so sad I can't go though :\

    25. Animania Competition
      Competitions have been updated here!
Although the prizes haven't been distributed yet, I can tell you that there will be some pretty cool prizes!

      Doll Survey

For those who haven't already completed this, there is an Australian BJD Survey up. Please fill it out if you have time~

    26. Saw this in the news thread. Getting really excited - I think I may enter this comp! Time to start pondering what to do...hehehe. Really good theme! Getting my brain working ;)

I'll also be filling out your survey. Anything to help promote the hobby at Animania is something I'm keen on!

    27. Taralphiel: Yay! I look forward to seeing the entries~
We do get a fair few new comers at the ABJD tables at Animania~ it's really good to introduce them to different dolls and letting them see them. I makes such a difference seeing them in real life than on screen.

Edit: also posted a new sponsor on the News page

PS. Also, to all the people attending Animania, please register your email with me on the day in order to get your bonus points from Cherish Doll.
You don't need to have a doll for these points, so it's a great way for newbies to get started on their first doll.

      Prize photos:

    28. Hey everyone! Today apple-pai and I managed to get a look at the lovely prize donated by Leeke World and here are photos of him! :D

He is a LeekeWorld Pure Rose Skin Khal Vampire that comes with full body blushing, their pale faceup, silver wig and blue glass eyes. He's on the new L type with solid muscle Boy Body :)

He's very lovely to photograph! I'm sorry about the inconsistency with the lighting, I didn't photoshop anything to make it as true as my camera could capture. Good luck to whoever wins this fabulous prize.

    29. Wow I just checked out the new comp! I wish I was going to animania this year! Will the accessories competition be just for this year or will it be on next year as well?

    30. Hi YEMiliee,
It is a shame you aren't coming!!
If the competition goes well this year, we may hold it again. It also depends on how many sponsors we have.

    31. Yay!! :D
I had so many ideas for this year's competitions, so sad I can't come, but oh wells, next year :)

    32. Just a reminder~ 9 days to send in your entries everyone! :D Also the event guide has been uploaded, please click me to download.

There's also a bjd panel on sat at 11~12pm ^^ It will be about bjd merchandise. I'll (most likely) be bringing in stuff like Enchanted Doll eyes and clothing from Nine9 Style and DollHeart.

Some lucky dolls attending Animania will be getting new outfits!!
*Ruby Red and Cherish Doll photographs are from Limedragon! Thank you!

    34. Just a friendly reminder, please make sure that your photo entry meets the dpi requirements! ^^ We need to print out the photos to display for the event so it's important. Thanks to everyone who's sent their entries in so far, can't wait to see more :D

    35. About the photos for the photography comp, if I resize in ratio, it sometimes will give the other side a different measurement, eg 6.00x 9.00. How do I stop this? Also, what size will they be printed out at for display?

    36. Ah, okay.
Yeah, I realise different cameras have different ratios... (note: change competition entry detail for next year)
If your photo is 6x9 ratio, i think the only way to get it to the 6:8 without causing it to stretch is to actually crop it. If you feel that your photo has to be in the 6:9 ration, keep it that way.
I will print them out in A4 (which is 12X15 i think), so it will have to scale to fit to the page anyway.
I will just want them to be the 300dpi as that is print quality.

    37. Exciteddddddd 8DOnly a week until Animania! Can't wait to see all my dolly friends!

    38. Excited aswell!! But i also know, the night before Animania is going to mean no sleep for me!! It always happens... i'm never prepared properly!

    39. I'm looking forward to it~
I'll be sure to go to the panel too! :)

    40. I'm attending the Brisbane Animania Festival, however, I don't know if the BJD competition will be here. I will be very disappointed if it isn't, especially since I'm ordering my first doll soon and I want to know everything there is to know before I order.

Does the BJD competition happen at Sydney every year? Maybe, I could fly down to Sydney for next year's competition.

    41. I can't wait to meet everyone! ^^ I can't remember if it's been mentioned here, but we've managed to snag a table so feel free to sit down and talk with us and other bjd owners during the event :D I'll be cosplaying as Ciel Phantomhive this year lol.

Catie> I'm sorry, the bjd competitions are only for the Sydney Animania events. I think it's due to the fact that the BJD managers have always been from Sydney. I don't know much about Brisbane Animania events so I'm not sure if they have any bjd section. Maybe you could see if any meetups are happening at that event and talk to other bjd owners? :3 I think there has been mention of expanding to other states but it's very hard since apple-pai and myself are students.

    42. limedragon

Thought so. Lucky Sydney-Siders. Do they do them every year? Maybe I can fly down next year.

    43. Reminder, the deadline for the competitions is tomorrow! So get those entries in!

Update cityrail trackworks for all those catching trains:

Catie: The ABJD section have been running for 4 years now, so it's only a young'un compared to the other sections. We hold the competitions at Sydney's September Animania, mainly because it's the bigger event, held over two days. And, so far it is the Sydney events where we officially hold the doll tables, and the big Sydney event the tables & competitions. I think there may have been doll meet ups during the Brisbane/Melbourne Animania, but I cannot be 100% sure.

    44. @ apple-pai

Thanks! I'll hopefully go down next year for a couple of days for the Animania. :D

    45. Thank you to everyone who came to Animania~ It was a wonderful weekend, apologies if i was a bit of a headless chook for most of the weekend.

Also thank you to everyone who entered the competitions, it was great to see so many entries stuck all over the walls, seeing all the effort put into the entries, you did make our lives difficult trying to pick the winners. I thought we had a great deal of prizes this year, but still in the end it felt like there wasnt enough. If we had prizes to give to everyone, we would have.
