Contest Angelic Faceup Contest (Painting)

    1. Submissions are now closed.

      In honor of our forum's name, we are inviting our forum's artists to give us their impressions of an angel's face.


      Description and Rules:

      Artists may use any interpretation of "angel" that they wish, be it Judeo-Christian or parallel heavenly bodies from other religions or mythologies. If you choose an obscure reference, please be sure to include an explanation in the submission description.


      How to enter

      Each member may enter ONE design.

      Please send photos of your finished faceup to Truffle. You must put a note in the subject of the email stating that the entry is for the Angelic Faceup contest.

      You may send up to 3 views, each a maximum of 400x600 px (orientation of portrait or landscape is not important). One of these views MUST be a full view of the face. The format must be .GIF or .JPG. Your images should be minimally altered and should accurately represent the faceup.

      Please let us know what materials you used, what your inspiration was, and what sculpt you have chosen to use.

      There should be no personally identifying information on the photos - no name, username, email, or watermark.

      Do not post this work elsewhere prior to completion of voting; doing so will remove your entry from the contest. As with the winter contests, we wish for the entries to be anonymous in order to make voting more fair.

      This contest is open to all DoA members and Moderation Staff of all ability levels. Show us your very best!

      Entries must be received by August 3rd.

      Voting

      Entries will be posted on DoA on August 7th for voting. Voting will run from August 7th to August 13th.

      The winner will be decided by member vote via PM. In the event of a tie, Armeleia will cast the deciding vote.

      Prizes

      The creator of the entry with the most votes will receive a small assortment of high-quality faceup materials (i.e. Volks pearl powders, Tamiya glosses, Panpastel, fine brushes etc) selected by the Den of Angels staff. Jen has also generously donated a few 100/0 Arteje brushes.

      The second and third-place winners will receive a gallery upgrade. If they have a commission thread or website, they may substitute a month of free advertising in the upper right corner of the forum. (Ad must be approved by DoA Staff).

      All entrants will receive a graphic badge for their signatures.

      The first prize will be sent to the winner by the end of September, barring complications. Please note that the winner is responsible for postage.

      CLARIFICATIONS THAT HAVE BEEN POSTED THROUGHOUT THE THREAD

      1. Entries can be just heads, without bodies.

      2. Entries don't need to have wig or eyes... but generally will do better with them! Make sure that the wig does not cover the faceup.

    2. are we sticking with on topic dolls or will you allow the small 21-27cm figures for this. I am happy either way but don't have any bjd that need faces and can't afford to buy one for this contest.

      BTW you folks are doing a wonderful job so far with so many fun and unique contests.

    5. Does this mean the specific photos that make up the contest entry, or any photos of the faceup at all? And does 'elsewhere' mean just on DoA or anywhere on the Internet? I appreciate that you're trying to make it anonymous, but I think many people will recognize their friends' dolls even if it has a new faceup, or their photography style. So the reason I ask is because if I re-faceup my doll, I will want to post it on my friends-only livejournal... but I'll keep it to myself if I have to! :lol:

    7. In general... I'd say that posting on a f-locked Livejournal entry is okay. There's no way that we're going to be able to keep people from voting for their friends, or having their friends recognize entries just by the style. The main point is to try to keep people from voting based on the ridiculous Cult of Personality that seems to follow certain dolly celebrities.

      No posting on DoA or other doll forums, though. (DoA, ZoZ, Resinality, DoD, etc.) Keeping it off of Deviant Art and similar sites would also be appreciated. Keep it private.


      You can do whatever you want as long as you can justify why you're doing it.

    15. Junkets please don't bite me .-. I have the contrary question *hides* does the head has to get eyes and wig ? Eyes I guess it's better to have a good opinion of the whole face up but wig ? That's because the two wigs I have will never fit what I have in mind for the face up ^w^ though the eyes I also own won't fit ( except if Amber is enough kind to share hers ^w^ ) ... anyway that contest is evil, now I want to make a whole doll based on the angel chara for myself LOL

    16. Eyes and wig are not required, neither is a body.

      That said, this one is decided by member vote.... so you may want to focus on having the best presentation that you can possibly have. A good pair of eyes and a nice wig will complete the look, and heads always look nicer on bodies than glue bottles. Even if you're just borrowing a body from one of your other dolls for the pics. :)

      I will switch with Amber's body, it's bettter I guess, I can still steal her eyes as well ^w^ even if that's not the color I wished but being broke ... can't buy new one. I will try to see what to do with the wig anyway.

    19. I've almost finished my entry :) I just wanted to check that it is ok for my pictures to be visible to others on Flickr? (Obviously I wouldn't put them anywhere on DOA). The pictures need to be loaded elsewhere in order to be able to PM them, and I use Flickr. I just wanted to check, as after spending so much time on my face-up, I would hate to be disqualified!! :)

    21. It is okay to upload to flickr to share your entry with the moderators.

      It is okay to post them to your private photobucket, but you should wait until after the VOTING has concluded to post to your DA.

      I mean, does it have to be the common definition of 'angelic'? or would a 'dark angle' be accepted as well?

      They said any interpretation, so I guess we can .... because if it's just angelic, well, all nice, soft and cute well such image, I'm off topic ^w^ I even used lot of sources and stuffs to get inspiration @o@ which I will include a small text in my submission because I bet no one know about o-o

      Never pushed myself so far for a face up @o@ but now I want to keep my head I wished to sell and will try to find a body to create the whole chara ^-^

    25. Haaa, time is drawing close and I'm super nervous! X3 I have one more question: Is it ok to touch up our pictures using photoshop - i.e. I usually blur the background a bit more, sharpen the eyes, etc. Or should we leave it completely untouched?

      Also, I was wondering if you will be using all of the photos we sent you, or only one for each entry. Because, well, for some faceups it's hard to get the full effect from just one pic. >.>
