Angel Of Dream (AoD) 60cm Discussion

Jul 10, 2007

    1. thanks chalyss :aheartbea no that is one good thing about boys - they don't need much of a faceup compared to my girls!

thanks jigarkhvar :daisy Here's some more ear spam for you! I really like the body - my first regular 1/3 boy, and to my surprise he's the same height as my 65cm dollzoned boy when sitting down - he's just got little short legs compared to my dollzone!

    2. Those AoD bodies are always so lovely! They aren't too slim or too big and they aren't cheap or chintzy. I'm glad they resculpted the hands from pointing fingers though.

    3. uuuh
the new body is so nice
i have an old one from them and it>'s also nice but i think the newer one is thinner on the hips
and yes AOD have shorter legs compared to other dolls in the same size >D

    4. yes I agree the body is lovely, although I have no idea what the old style was like - have to say I hate pointing fingers too - it is really a pet hate of mine! I've wanted an AoD boy in ages though - not too big, not too small, not too muscular, just right in fact :D The resin is a beautiful quality too, and not even shiny, which surprised me! I'm glad Alices Collections included some free eye putty though as AoD didn't put nearly enough in - AC also gave me a magic eraser :) So here's a photo of my new boy compared to my dollzone 65cm Jeremy (that's dollzone's new 'spray tan' colour - love it or loathe it!) I measured both boys and their arms and shoulders are exactly the same, with only a small difference in chest size. The neck is a lot slimmer on the AoD, but even so he's wearing 70cm pants from Alices, rolled up at the hem for length - and he looked OK in my dz Jeremy's 70cm size shirt too (both from Alices) The white top he's wearing is a 1/3 size though, from Alices again.

    5. Funny they have almost the same measurements, just that one is taller! And... wow! Jersey Shore Jeremy! (if he was Thor, he could be Jersey Thor! HAH!) Again, congrats! He really looks gorgeous. AoDs are contenders, all the way!

    6. he looks sooo cool *q*
and the new tan of dz i dunno...
sadly aod aren't doing tan anymore because THIS was awesome

    7. Anyone have an heidi spam?

    8. So sad! I placed my AoD order ten days too soon it seems >โ—<
No event extras for me boo

    9. Awww..! That really sucks! Timing can be important, I guess... :( (Always makes me nervous this time of year!)

    10. Heidi!
      Still nameless though :O

    11. Wow! She is gorgeous! If you don't mind me asking, what size eye does she take?

    12. 14 to 16mm will Work!

    13. Thank you!

    14. This is my Qian with new face up by me :dance Everything are ok except eyelash, but she's still beautiful :blush

    15. What a pretty face! Good job on the faceup! I love her shahotoshi!

    16. Tsuki56 Thank you so much:D

    17. She's so pretty! Her smile is fantastic!

    18. Thank Kitty Writer's Dolls :aheartbea She came with company face up, it made her look little sad, so I done new face up for her. It's my first face up, not perfect, but looking better :)

    19. My successful AoD body hybrids are Dollzone Aurora on the SD body and DoD boy event head on the 62 cm body. I initially went with the AoD bodies because their pink resin was a good match for both heads, but I'm very pleased with the proportions, posing, and sculpting of the hands. For Aurora I went with the long fingernail hands, and they definitely compliment her long face.

    20. I think your face-up is great. She looks terrific. You have a great artistic talent.

    21. I think you're right!

    22. OK, /finally/!! After almost 2 years and 4 other faceups, I have one on my Heidi that is far from perfect and may be redone, but I can actually stand it... for now. So please forgive the number of pics I have to share, but--

      HEIDI SPAM!

OK, enough of that. There's an album of her though, if you want to see more. I'll try different wigs in the future, but I am very pleased with her Leeloo, which she is wearing backwards; the bangs/fringe are actually at the nape of her neck.

    23. oh she looks adorable chalyss :D I had a Heidi and her face is incredibly hard to style nicely - I reckon that's perfect! The side-glancing eyes are another great style for her strangely shaped eye holes - what size of eye did you use for her?

    24. I agree- she gave me fits! One day, though, I might even slap some real lashes on her... and I hate putting those things on! (Though I have a TON and they need to be used, I guess...) Thank you for your kind words!!

Those are half round acrylics, 14mm. I just switched them out with 14mm round glass, but those don't fit as well- the pair I have in I can only make look straight forward. They lack the ability to fit the way the acrylics do, which I can have look forward or side glance. Flatter glass eyes would work better, not my perfectly round ones. As you said, strangely-shaped eye holes!

    25. Chalyss, your Heidi is sooo pretty! I definitely need to get one of my own one of these days. ^_^

    26. Thank you, ArtsyLaurie! I do highly recommend her- she's just such a sweetface! Even w/o faceup, she makes me smile. :)

    27. yes I found it impossible to look at my Heidi without smiling back at her ^_^

she is much more photogenic than a lot of serious-looking dolls too, as far as 'holiday snap' type photos go, because she looks like she's really smiling for the camera.

there's quite a few AoD 1/3 dolls I want at the moment if only I had the cash! For such budget dolls they have some lovely sculpts, and I think they're really nicely engineered too, if you can live with slightly shiny plastic-looking resin, rather than matte buffed resin. My dolls all wear clothes anyway, so I'm not bothered - I believe you can spray MSC on shiny resin to make it look more matte?

Having said that, it's only my older Qian which is a bit shiny - my new boy Kim isn't at all shiny, so maybe they changed their process? Or maybe they spray with MSC and it wears off? I have no idea - but he's perfect I think, even with no faceup :aheartbea

    28. Oh, he's CUTE! I think a lot of their sculpts look heaps better in personal pics. I so wish they still did their tan- I would get 3 or 4 of their sculpts in tan. I haven't really had problems with their resin being shiny, but they are indeed beautifully engineered. Powerful posers and lovely bodies with some exceptional sculpts. I love mine! My Heidi is a hybrid, but I'm seriously considering getting her an AOD body now that they have the huge bosom, which her character requires. And you're correct- yes, MSC will matte shiny resin.

    29. I think my only beef with the aod body for my girl is that her nipples are really really visible, even through two layers of clothes! That's the reason mine sports a coat and scarf nowadays

    30. thanks chalyss ^_^ Yes I'm glad my first bjd was an AoD Qian - she spoilt me though! I never had a problem with her right out of the box, and 2 years later she's still perfect and never needed any attention or restringing. I've since had impldoll, boy&girl, planetdoll, bobobie, rosenlied, luts, leekeworld, dollzone, dollleaves, ndoll, island doll and doll chateau - and I think AoD are brilliant really!

Tsuki56 I love that photo - I searched for pics of Heidi earlier as I wish I had one still (well duhh I had one already!) I love the way you've styled her - and yes they do have nipples LOL - I heard some people sand them down as they're annoyingly pointy, but my Qian/Heidi (head swap) wore baggy clothes anyway ^_^ Is that the default faceup? I think I'll get her with the default as I found her really hard to paint myself - I'm not even an amateur, and she needs an expert!

meanwhile more spam of Will (AoD Kim) - just because ^_^

    31. Tsuki, she's gorgeous! I rarely see her as a blonde... for some reason she comes across most often as a red head, but she can wear anything (even green, I saw!) and look amazing! The nipple thing makes me laugh though- I had an old DZ who actually rubbed holes into a shirt I had specially commissioned with her danged nipples- and she never really moved, so not certain how that even happened... but it sure did! Good to know though, so I could sand them.

Kim is adorable! I wonder how he'd look as a girl... I just love that face!

    32. Elve: yes! My only thing that I'm gonna do is repaint the back bit of the teeth insert a darker color. In most shots she looks like she's got her tongue up behind her front teeth!

Chalyss: I noticed that when looking up user pictures! But I really liked this ashy blonde wig and it ended up being perfect for her in the end haha

    33. Tsuki, I love the wig! And the glasses! And the selfie she's taking! *LOL*

My girl Analei is supposed to actually have more of an apricot color hair but finding that color with the curls I want has proven verrrrrrry difficult!

    34. Thank you!!
Omg yes, curly wig colors, for whatever reason, are really strangely limited!

    35. chalyss I agree Kim would make a great girl too - I fell in love with his face, although I never wanted an elf eared doll at all - He is a very fine sculpt, very detailed and beautiful I think, even with no faceup (and my efforts will probably not be an improvement either!) ^_^

    36. It was the same with me, with Qi. I got her in a trade, actually did not expect to keep her, but fell in love when I saw her. She's so darned cute! She has elf ears too and I ended up adoring them. Mine came with a factory faceup that is just awesome, but I bet she's lovely w/o too, just like your Kim. What a cutie pie!

    37. yes I love the way you've styled your Qi too chalyss - she looks so delicate and magical :aheartbea Although I have officially stopped buying dolls (no money) there are more AoD dolls on my wishlist than any other doll company! I love Mo Lan - her face is so sweet - Sinuo, their new girl - Yuki - Heidi/Hui Xiang - Qi - Sara - Zi Yu - and in my opinion Ying is really meant to be a boy! If you scroll down to see her with no faceup http://www.acbjd.com/ying-p-5693.html?cPath=252_254

    38. I want a tan Yuki so bad! I love her look, but only in their tan. Good luck on that, huh?? I've had to stop doll buying several times for no money... for years at a time, even. I get back to it when I can and slowly gather what I want for my existing dolls. The good thing about a hiatus is I ended up refining my tastes and knowing what sizes I didn't click with as much, so on and so forth. At least you're not in love with LE dolls! I agree about Ying though-- yes, she could easily be a boy! And probably should have been to start. Maybe they wanted a tomboy type?

    39. yes I've sold a ton of dolls already - just my favourites left now - and my wishlist! :XD: I'm not so much into fantasy type dolls, so not usually attracted to limited editions thank goodness - My dolls tend to be my kids/pets more than anything, so no vampires for me LOL

I like the variety which AoD have in their range compared to some doll companies - their dolls have character and personality, rather than just being 'pretties' (although they are that too!)

Maybe you could give Yuki a spray tan?

ETA - well I've just noticed we are up to 1000 posts on this discussion thread! I've been on some fast moving threads so I checked the date of the first post on this one LOL - only 7 years ago! :ablink:

    40. Woot! Go us! Happy 1000, ya'll!

And yes! *LOL* I could definitely try spray tanning a Yuki- been meaning to try that for awhile anyway. It's a good suggestion!

I'm lucky I don't do many fantasy dolls either or Limited Edition types. I have one or two in my sights but it's rare.
