40–49cm Dolls (An Old) Bluefairy Emilie

Nov 16, 2025

    1. Hello! I'm not a very good box-opener-poster but since it is an infrequent event around here I felt like making a little thread for the occasion.

Maybe it will contain something useful or interesting...

As a long time collector of old, sometimes unfashionable or awkward, always on a budget dolls, I became unexpectedly infatuated with a Bluefairy doll I found on eBay recently. In the beginning (2010) of my hobby days I used eBay a lot but it's beyond dried up now and I would generally recommend avoiding it as a doll shopping place unless you are extremely experienced. There's not much to see anyway. So in the sea of not much to see I found this doll listed by one of those estate-seller type accounts, with her box, company faceup, default acrylic eyes and some clothes/wig/accessories in a style that pointed me to an idea that this doll was purchased probably a decade ago or more. I felt good about her and she was in my price range of I can afford her right now without being saddled with excessive guilt.

I can't explain that well why I wanted this doll especially. I will be honest that I do not really like bluefairy faces, or at least I never have and in my research I still don't. :XD: isn't that horrible? Don't let her hear me!! But I have some big feelings lately that only a new doll can solve (joke!) and something about her in particular, just her as this singular object, felt at home in my heart. I like to imagine I am a spirit collector and some of these dolls have a friendliness in them I can sense from afar.
No, no, the real reason is that I feel sad about some dolls I sold and I was enticed by the body which looks like the old angel region 1/3 doll I chose to let go of. I think the body is so beautiful and classic. And I wanted to think the doll has potential to be different but charming, minimal in sculpting perhaps but could have the appeal similar to anime dolls in photography. Truly the bluefairy Flickr group is full of beautiful wistful portraits of very cute and pretty characters.

Alright so here's my ugly box opening!

      "Why" is an apt foreshadowing...

Because this is how she was packed in there between two (very high quality) body pillows!!

Never say you've seen it all because on this near anniversary of 15 years in the hobby this is the first time I received a doll with literally not one shred of bubble wrap! :XD:

I wish I could have as much faith in anything as this seller had in UPS. Luckily she arrived perfectly safe!

Honestly we live in msd sized shoe poverty around here and I was really really excited about these shoes. I don't know who made them but they are professional and use probably real suede and real rabbit fur! Woah. I hope they last forever.

^cute hat and box lid too

Here she is :3nodding: I still wasn't totally sure what sculpt she was but I did my research and was going to find out soon by opening her head to look for a number engraving.

I put her in the pink wig as a right of passage because everyone else who fits it has already worn it briefly :XD:

I need to get eyes and a wig for her though.

      She's very cute.

I'm worried I'm writing too much so I'm going to continue in the next post :sweat

    2. Maybe it's weird but there is a lot to like it dislike about a doll besides the face. I truly love the hands and feet and the style of the body. I love this super matte resin in my hands. The color of her is beautiful too, especially considering I think she is quite old. She's got more of a lovely apricot pinky tone than anyone else around here these days (who are largely just shades of nicely to grossly yellow or bleached out to oblivion). There is something I really loved about angel region and this bluefairy doll which is that they have a charming simplicity but are undeniably well crafted, with intention and skill. They are charming and have this pure energy of the origins of this doll hobby (to me).

Here she is with some fabrics I got to start her wardrobe :aheartbea

I felt like I had ideas for who she would be but maybe she is already having her own ideas... I'm just going to follow her lead then, I can tell. But the fabric is good!

I beheaded her to look for that marking inside and so I can do a faceup. She has the old type of head where she's strung e-book to head cap which is such a pain. The easy way I disassemble them is from one ankle, removing a foot then I can have enough slack to get the head apart and off, then i'll restring when she's ready to go back together.

That picture Shows her color best.

Here are those head innards! We have enough eye putty for a whole army!

From another post I saw on DoA the 4 inside her head should indicate that she is in fact Emilie. I thought she was Tommy before, but I was secretly hoping she was actually Emilie. (Even though so many bluefairy faces admittedly look the same to me unfortunately)

Well that's pretty much it! Here's one more look at that default faceup I am so eager to get rid of before it's gone (it already is as I'm making this post :XD:)

I'm not totally sure if this doll can be made to have that oomph factor for me but I do appreciate the challenge or any chances to learn something new and broaden my horizons. I'm very glad I got her and I'm looking forward to seeing what she shows me about herself!

      Thanks for looking!

    3. Congrats on the cute arrival! I'm looking forward to how you end up painting her - custom faceups seem quite rare for Bluefairys somehow so I've always struggled imagining them in any other way, but there is lots of potential in the simple faces all the same :)

    4. Oh she's cute! I can't wait to see what you do with her! I'm almost scared by that amount of eye putty though:aeyepop:

    5. She was definitely packed by a non doll lover! That's scary but I'm glad her fingers all arrived safely on her hands. Those boots are great! That's a perfect bonus. The head hole is always the biggest flaw with these dolls. I'm not sure they ever did update that on the tinyfairies, but I'm also not sure I've seen a recently made one either.

I love the default BF faceups so I'm sad to see it go, but I also love your faceups a lot too. I can't wait to see what you do with her!

    6. That packaging is a nightmare, but thankfully she arrived safely! I've always been fond of Bluefairy and how distinctive their style is; looking forward to seeing her with a custom faceup!
