Since Monique is going out of business I'm searching for a wig company. The photos of the Amadiz wigs are lovely but there are so many mixed reviews about them that I am a little leary of ordering from them. When ordering a Monique wig you were certain of the size. It seems since these are custom made the size can be all over the place. These wigs are an investment given the prices so I'd want something truly special and it goes without saying that fits. If you have any information regarding this it would be greatly appreciated. Also if there is a wig company that you recommend that would be great!
I ordered some wigs from Sophymolly. I didn't receive them yet, so I can't confirm, but is seems there are great reviews on Etsy. Might be worth checking out! SophyMolly Shop by SophyMolly on Etsy
When it comes to custom wigs like those, one thing to note is that unless the artist has your exact same head, head shapes can range greatly. I have a friend who ordered a sophymolly wig and once received it didn't fit even though it was technically the right size. Their doll's head had a different shape, so unfortunately the wig didn't fit properly on the head. (I'm not saying that all sophymolly or artist wigs are like this, but any wigs made on hard caps can have this issue!) Some artist make their wigs on stretchy caps and those don't have this particular issue. If the doll you're wanting the wig for is an uncommon one, you may want to look into artists who do stretchy caps. (I don't know what sort of cap amadaiz uses, sorry.) If your dolls is a more common/popular one such as a minifee, however, then you'll have a much easier time finding hard cap wig makers that offer your doll's specific head shape.
I've ordered some Jusuns synthetic mohair wigs and find the fiber equivalent to Monique Gold. Their website's e-commerce isn't set up yet but you can browse their styles there and then track them down on eBay/Amazon. The only downside I find with them vs Monique is that their styles with bangs are all straight-across instead of wispy fringe.
I have quite a few Amadiz wigs and the quality is usually really good. They do run on the small side though, for example the mini fee wig I have from them is a size 7/8 (and typically my MNF's wear 6/7's). I always order 8/9's for my EID/SID Iple girls from Amadiz as well, and they typically wear 7/8 in Monique. Their wig caps have a slight bit of stretch, but not much. It can also take quite a while to get them if you don't happen upon a "READY" wig. I think the last wig I ordered from them took about 3 months, but I have waited 6 months before from them. Just wanted to put a heads up out there. The wigs are beautiful though!
Facetsboutique is a wig dealer for Monique and she's working on ordering a bunch of wigs before Monique closes, I think, in case you are looking to get any more moniques! I know Facets is also looking into having more wigs made out of synthetic mohair also produced - I believe they carry some wigs from Jusuns, as well. Jusuns is made out of a similar fiber as the Monique wigs, but I feel like they tend to run a bit smaller... I bought a braided wig from them in 6-7 and it's super tight fit on my minifee siean, even though Monique 6-7 glides on super easily... I plan on buying some 7/8 Jusuns to see if the fit runs small, too. I believe Denverdoll's "JinSun" wigs are Jusuns as well. Kemper Dolls has some wigs in synthetic mohair fiber it seems, but it looks like they don't produce very many of them... there isn't much selection on their website, but maybe it could be complications with the pandemic and sourcing. Additionally there is Jpopdolls... I know Grace designed a lot of the Monique wigs, and they sold both Monique and Jpop original wigs. Grace passed away and the business is managed by her family now and I'm unsure if their supply will be disrupted if Monique was their manufacturer, though.
So all of my dolls are in Amadiz wigs! I have bought 5 over the years. They’re big investments for me and I struggle with the price tag. So this is what I’ve learned.. All of the wigs I have ordered have taken longer than the “waiting period” they claim. I think mine all took around 6 months to make, so if you order one you’re going to have to sit back and wait it out! Also, as someone else mentioned, I think they run a little small. All my dolls are minifees which usually wear size 6/7 wigs and they definitely need a 7/8 from Amadiz (Amadiz also recommends getting a 7/8 for minifee). If you’re unsure about the sizing DEFINITELY message them before ordering for help. I think my biggest recommendation is to try and be as specific as possible about the wig you want and what you like about it. They’re all custom made and seem to only be “loosely” based off of their example pictures. So if you want it to be a certain length, elbow length or waist length for example, TELL THEM even if the wig in the picture is already that length. I’ve ordered wigs and the length is much longer than the wig in the example picture. Same with the texture of the wig. Let them know if you want loose waves or curls (like the picture) because they might change it a little. with all that said, my dolls all have this brand wig for a reason. They are very nice quality. The inside wig cap is a white kind if netted or mesh material that they claim doesn’t stain heads. I’ve had wigs horribly stain doll heads in the past so this is important to me. The colors are absolutely beautiful and the hair is as soft as can be. They always smell amazing. They always send you pictures of the exact wig they made for you and get your approval before mailing them out. The only flip side for that is, they take so long to make that if I didn’t like the final results of one I’d HATE to order all over again!
I wish I had this information when I placed my order. I don't know if it would have dissuaded me entirely, but would have made me weigh my options more. It would have also more appropriately set my expectation which this thread now has. It is unfortunate that there is so much conflicting information on timing. The description of the wigs says 3 months (allowing for schedule changes), the note from shop says 3-4 months, and Etsy has 10 weeks (which I researched and seems is the max that a seller can set for processing time). Also, there's only 100 days from when your order "ships" that a buyer can leave feedback. This makes more sense why majority of the shop's feedback is only for "Ready Wigs", and so few for the made to order / "regular" items. It seems highly likely that you won't have a valid review of the item to give during the available time window. I'm erring on the side that this is more a hostile Etsy platform than Amadiz Beauty "gaming" their ratings, but I would appreciate more forth coming communication either on the text of the shop or something else. Again, I'm not a small business owner, so I am trying to be more empathetic, but I'm also an data person, so inconsistencies bother me. I'm still excited, but now I have my timing expectations tempered.
@VeraLyne I was not able to write reviews for the last two wigs I ordered on Etsy for that reason. I believe I ordered my other wigs directly from their site before that because the same wigs actually cost less on their site compared to Etsy.. they’ve since upped the prices and made them the same in both places. edit to add: yours could get to you sooner than mine, I can only speak of my experiences, but it’s been pretty consistent in timing for my orders.. I hope yours arrives timely!
If I clearly remember, it took two month for making my wig and also they gave me a discount for shipping. The quality of the wig was perfect, even with a slight mismatch with my description
Does Amadiz still make wigs for sale? on their website and Etsy they only offer dolls, blanks or full set.
Unfortunately no. They stopped taking any custom orders for wigs and will occasionally sell pre-made wigs on their Etsy shop but they’re only made to specifically fit their dolls. I think they’re in size 5/6 and 8/9. They pretty much said they’re finished with making custom wigs and are moving on to new exciting projects with their dolls. Even though the wigs were never quite what I expected when ordering they were amazing quality and I miss them so much!
I agree, their wigs are lovely. But I wouldn't count on them never making wigs again too much. I remember years ago when they moved from Russia to the USA, they posted on their website, something like "We will never make wigs again" and I thought "Shoot, I always wanted one of their wigs and could never decide on one, now I will never get one." Well, one (or maybe two) year(s) later they started selling wigs in their Etsy store again and I finally got one, so never say never.
@Amadiel I hope they do take orders again some day. At one point I had one of their wigs for each of my dolls, but I have gained more dolls since they’ve stopped their custom orders… I’d love to have one for each doll again.
I second Jusuns wigs as a recommendation. I've got two and like them. The one I've got don't run small so apparently there's some variations in fit.
