Nope, no computer help for that sort of thing! To do away with any perceived imperfections, please use makeup or lighting, rather than Photoshop. Thanks! I hope you have fun with the contest!

 

This is more for curiosity's sake then that I would personally do it, but are tasteful nudes allowed? I could see some beautiful images being made that way.

 

If it could appear in a PG13 movie, it should be fine. However, all images should be work safe. If anyone has specific questions about a photoshoot that they feel may be an issue, we urge them to contact a moderator will more specific information and we can discuss it then. Thanks!

 

I have a question regarding the taker of the photos.

Could I submit a picture in which I was the model and my sister took the picture (she's way better at photography than I am), or do I, myself, have to take a picture of someone else in order to submit it?

 

You can allow someone to take a picture of you, but you will need to work it out with the photographer who gets the prize. You need to be either the model or photographer.

 

Okay, awesome! I'm glad we can do it that way.
If I, for some reason unknown to me, won this contest, I'd definitely offer the doll up to my sister.
We live in the same house anyway, so it's not a big problem of who would get the doll.

Sure, you can have as many people as you like in a photo.

 

People who take pictures of their dolls on here edit their photos in different ways to convey effect or mood. I understand if minimal photoshop is allowed on people, but are we not allowed to use any photoshop at all?

 

I think that's partially the point, Heads. ^^ I think it's a great idea; it helps the people with less-advanced programs or photoshop skills, and shows what people can do just with a raw camera shot.

 

I am so pleased there is a human photo comp! I have a friend who is always happy to model for me, whether for drawings or photos! And she likes to be paid in muffins, which is helpful! And she is pretty creative, and has a rather doll-like figure too so she will work wonders. I can't wait to do this one!

 

You may use Photoshop to crop or for color correction, but otherwise, we'd really prefer that the photos be as close to the original as possible, which is one reason we're requesting the raw format of the photo.

 

KEEP YOUR ORIGINAL PHOTO FILES. Winners will be asked to provide the original raw images complete with EXIF data to verify that the photos were taken fresh for the contest and that there has not been excessive photo manipulation. Note: By "raw" we just mean unaltered and fresh off of your camera, not the RAW image format.


Um, because I'm completely clueless about photography and camera's in general, what exactly is EXIF data and where/how do I find it to be able to send? (If I wasn't suffering from "dolly-holism" I would have the money to take some photography classes and learn something useful )

 

I have a quick question about portraying a doll. Can it be portraying a pre-existing doll? like cosplaying a doll from a company? Or it can be Anything Doll like, or as long as you're a doll? such as Original Design dolls?

 

EXIF data is just part of the original file - as long as you keep a copy of the photo file that comes right off of your camera, it will be there. (EXIF data it basically gives information showing when the picture was taken, what the camera settings were, etc.).

It might be easier if you think of it as "before and after." Keep a copy of your picture from before you do your photo editing (color correction, cropping), and one from after which would be your final picture. Enter the "After" pic, and if you win we'll ask to see your "Before."

You may do either. You just need to look like a doll.

 

What about using settings on your camera? For example my camera has a feature that allows me to to just focus on one color and makes the rest black and white. Would those kinda of settings be allowed?

 

Is the doll you can win blank or does the doll come with a faceup?

Features like that are almost more like photoshop in your camera. That's a fun setting! However, as it's not the sort of feature found on many camera, we would prefer if you chose a black and white setting, or full color.

That we don't know! Looking a gift horse in the mouth, and all that. I would say to expect a blank doll, and then be pleasantly surprised if it comes with a faceup.

What about people who don't have access to a digital camera. I have a couple friends who have yet to get theirs and have been going to walmart and kinkos to get their photos printed and scanned.

I was just wondering since I feel like the digital camera data requirements could end up excluding some people from participating.

Yes, you may use children, but please make sure that you have proper permission for the pictures to be posted on line if they are not your children.

I'm interested in entering for fun, but to be honest I'm also interested in entering to win something. I'm not interested in the top prize, and I want to minimize the risk that I might win a doll I can't bond with if I enter.

So rather than putting forth the effort to enter immediately and hoping the as-yet-unannounced prizes will be something I might like, I'm curious as to when the second-place and third-place prizes will be determined so I can avoid winning something I can't keep and taking away something someone else would've enjoyed. (Forgive me if my formality comes off as arrogance. I'm just being completely honest about my intentions and want to cover all the bases... it says nothing about my confidence or lack thereof!)

1. Can you post an Old photo? I took a photo of a girl at CN Anime Last Year, Pretending to be a Doll....Does that fall into the parameters?

A few questions about the rules. Can I use photoshop to make a color photo black and white or sepia? Can we have help with the set up of the shoot? Do I have to be the model or can I use someone who is not on the forum for the model?

 

I have a few questions...

By Light correction, Is "light" meaning the lighting of the photo or as in minimal correction?
I'd like to adjust with the brightness/contrast, make the photo's black and white and strengthen the sharpness.

Do these count as too much editing?

what I've always known as minimal adjusting is just making the blacks actually black, and the whites actually white so your picture isn't flat, and adjusting the colors so you dont' have a blue cast or green cast or red cast over your photo "raw" photos sometimes have. but im not a mod or anything, this is just kind of based on deviantarts rules a bit
