I originally (before ordering) wanted all my girls to have different skin tones, especially various non-human tones because I am very biased to aliens/monster-girls/etc. Yet all 3 of my girls OTW have been in Mia Pink skin. Since they're all the same size this is kinda nice because now I can swap alternate hands or feet but I’m like damn how did I lose the plot so hard??? Actually I know why. It’s because the sculpts I loved only come in 10+ light flesh-tones and nothing else OTL I’m hoping the next sculpt I really fall in love with will have a deep human tone or a fantasy tone. Theres a couple sculpts that I like well enough but none that are like WOW I need her! Do any of you have multiple dolls in the exact same resin? I fear they might be so similar they look like twins or siblings! I guess since they’re all my daughters they are kinda sisters lol… I hope to come across more anime-face mature-bodied girls in greens blues purples browns yellows etc one day…
I highly prefer all my dolls being the same resin tone. Having one set of hands for multiple dolls is a huge draw. If every one of them could be Volks WS or NS, I would be so happy. I have 3 dolls in Volks WS, but they don't all match because of aging. As for looking similar, my two Migidoll boys in different resin tones are the ones mistaken for each other. Resin tone doesn't seem to make a difference there.
There are tutorials on dying dolls here on DoA and more likely YouTube as well. Lomi’s Playground has a video where she dyes a doll and one where she uses paint! Just mentioning it so if you ever want a doll a specific color and can’t get it in that color there are other options. https://youtube.com/@lomisplayground?si=8U-gw2if6D2J76s0
Ah thats interesting that your dolls get compared even if theyre different tones, I guess that makes sense, my real-life sibling has very different skintone than me but everyone can still tell we are related. I am looking forward to being able to swap hands (and theyll both arrive this summer so no aging issues for me)! I guess I’m just coming to terms with the fact that my piratey inspired doll will not be tanned, but I guess I could just give her more bronzey blushing to make her look like shes been at sea
As a complete beginner I would be much to frightened to dye a doll so expensive myself, maybe if I get one second-hand for a good deal I could try that out!! thank you for the resource~ I’m sure it’ll come to that one day if I don’t start seeing more dolls in my ideal colours soon lol
I have two dolls from Loongsoul in the same resin tone (light rose). After I ordered the second one, while I was waiting for him to be delivered, I got very worried they'd look too much alike, which would make buying them both foolish, and what if I didn't like him as much in person because he was the same.... ...buuuut they look entirely different from each other, even with the same resin tone and company faceups! I took some comparison shots of the two of them together when Goumang, the second fellow, first arrived. I balded them both so you could see their facial features better. Here they are, Alkaid on the left, Goumang on the right: As you can see, their facial sculpting is quite distinct! My worries they'd look too much like each other were completely unfounded, lol. (My worries I wouldn't like Goumang were also unfounded-- don't tell my other dolls but I think he's my favourite...) Honestly, even the same sculpt in the same (or similar) skintone can look very different with different faceups. Compare my Youzen to bickazer's Aramy, or Humi's Ens. Wigs, clothing, and accessories also help to distinguish dolls from each other. I think you're having some very understandable new dolly parent anxiety, but I wouldn't worry too much about your girls looking too much alike. Once they're in your hands, you'll be able to make them as distinct and unique as you want!
It takes a lot more than just the resin tone to mistake dolls for siblings/twins, I don't think I've ever looked at a photo of two dolls and even noticed if they had the same skin tone. There's plenty of variety in other things! It's absolutely a good perk to get to swap parts between dolls, though. If it really bothers you (I understand, we can all get nitpicky about our dolls), dyeing was mentioned above, but you could also blush your dolls differently, or even use fantasy colours for that to give them all a different flair. Customisation always helps
Ah Goumang is so lovely! (they both are) I love Goumang’s nose sculpt very much and their faceups differentiate them even more!! Thank you so much for sharing~ Yeah I have extremely different faceups planned for them (one will be stoic in blues and greys, the other expressive with red pink white brown etc. I guess since they’ll be sharing a closet too I just wanted more ways to differentiate them but after seeing your boys I can tell the faceup will do a lot of heavy lifting!
I think I’m a bit fearful in the lack of diversity of my girls. Right now they all look human when my general inclination for OCs leans to frankensteins, vampires, aliens, ghouls, etc. + Within humans I also tend to prefer tanned or deep skin but I think you’re right! Some intentional body and face blushing will help a lot to give them the illusion of variety
Yep, I have two dolls in from Luts in Light Tan, and even my dolls from other companies are in a very similar shade of tan. It wasn't planned, it kind of just... happened. But even though they have similar skin tones, difference in height, sculpt, faceup, and clothing makes them unique. If (when) I order from Luts again, I'm going to pick their deepest tan!
I agree with cobaltconduct that styling makes the most difference and skin tone is not that relevant if you're worried about making your dolls look unique. The most fantastical fantasy dolls I've seen were regular human sculpts in human skin tones, only styled really well to look fantasy. Inversely I've seen fantasy sculpts in a fantasy skin tone who felt ordinary, because the styling itself made them ordinary. And to make dolls look like twins you have to actively work on it! I have identical twins down to the makeup, and I want them to be twins, but with different clothes, wigs and some posing to give them a different body language they still feel like distinct characters.
Honestly? While I have dolls in several different resin tones, they're also different sizes. Styling and faceups are the key to making your dolls look unique, regardless of resin tone.
I would love a collection in warm sunny tans!! I think I'm just so shocked to end up with fair skinned dolls when my original plans was not like that at all lmao
ah this is good to know!! I don't anticipate having any twins, but if I ever incorporate that it will definitely be important to make them match intentionally while still having their own personalities
ah this is true as well!! all my dolls are 1/4 or below, I think if I ever breach into 1/3 or uncle territory it would be a totally different story too
