Shopping Alice's Collections vs Denver Doll?

Oct 5, 2023

    1. I'm considering ordering Dream Valley's Uncia and weighing my options between Alice's Collections and Denver Doll. I noticed that Alice's has a higher overall discount (17%) and waived shipping fees. Denver Doll has the standard discount and shipping fees. However, for payment, Alice's requires separate e-mailing and the layaway goes 4 to 6 months. Meanwhile, Denver Doll lets you set up everything at check out and has the deposit now, pay lump sum later option.

So I'm looking for opinions/personal experience on these two options; thoughts? The lump sum later is very attractive due to giving time for things like Ebay sales and credit card rewards to rack up to pay him off, but on the other hand, Alice's is definitely cheaper, though I have no experience with setting up split payments.

    2. Depends on where you're based - if in the US, Denver Doll is definitely an attractive option, but that would add customs fees for anywhere else. Alice's with the free shipping is the cheapest overall package (especially as import tax, if applicable, is also something that's calculated off shipping fees). Alice's is very flexible with changing orders etc, too, so I think it's worth sending an e-mail to them to see if maybe a custom layaway scheme would be possible?

    3. Another thing to consider is the wait time. I can order from Resinsoul directly and expect it within 2 months. It's taken DDE 4-5 months to actually get a Resinsoul order to me because their processing time is really long. It might be different for dolls with longer wait times (haven't ordered one yet), but generally you can expect at least an extra month for processing if you order through DDE.

    4. In all honesty I use both but I mostly use Denver Doll only for Fairyland. I lean more towards Alice because if the constant sales they have.

    5. I’m in the US, so customs fees aren’t a concern. The longer wait is another thing I thought about with Denver Doll; my previous doll purchases have been either direct from the company or premade, so I haven’t experienced dealer-based waits before.

    6. Re: wait times: Alice has always shipped out very quickly after my resin orders arrived.

    7. When I lived in the US I used Denver doll because it usually got me out of custom fees, though the wait was usually a bit longer, I never used their layaway. I have moved so now I almost always order through Alice. They have always been quick to get things out to me and are generally flexible. I will warn you now just in case you don’t already know and since I own quite a few Dream Valleys, their wait times are really long in general just because of the complexity of their dolls. My last order took 8 months. I ordered through Alice and once they had the doll it was with me within a week or so.

      Dream Valleys are such

    8. Alice is very responsive and replies quickly. When you submit your order, they will send you a spreadsheet with your layaway information; it is up to you to make the payments to them within the time frame; they do not send invoices or reminders to pay over the layaway time frame. You can pay it at intervals or all at once later if you like by your layaway due date. When I go through Alice, I normally upload the spreadsheet to my Google drive and then track my payments on it. I then send them a copy of the link in my confirmation email with it. They're very organized, but it also helps me and hopefully makes it easier for them too!

I've never had to wait more than 12 hours from a response from them. Of course this may vary during holidays and peak sales, but they've always been excellent in terms of communication.

I have also purchased from DDE, and I like them a lot, too. They are equally responsive, but being in the same general time zone gives them a slight advantage in that area. However, I normally buy from DDE for in stock items or for Fairyland only. Alice usually gets my preorders due to the discount, promotions, and free shipping. Since they're also based in China, so they get their orders much faster to dispatch to their customers.

    9. the alice layaways aren’t hard to set up, it’s just the extra email and then they do what’s needed :) I use both, though i think at this point mainly DDE for FL like others said and Alice for everything else. For alice i tend to only buy when i’m paying in full or buying a body only + accessories, but i’ve done a layaway and it’s easy to set up! Plus their layaways also count toward whatever promotions are happening (ie, buy a body and get extra eyes free or whatever) as long as your first payment is before the event end date.

    10. I’ve used both, I’m in the UK so either way I’ll probably get charged custom fees however one thing I will say that goes against DDE is their unpredictable attitude. Alice’s are always friendly and keen to help or answer questions whereas DDE are rather hit or miss. Sometimes they’re polite, sometimes they’re very offhand and rude. I once asked them a question and no joke the reply was just one word…… ‘No’

Other than that they’re as good as each other really.

    11. When it comes to Chinese doll companies I usually go with a Chinese dealer (Like Alice’s or Clover Singing). The wait time is significantly shorter than using a dealer outside of China for those companies.

    12. I’m also in the US and have used both.

I like Alice’s for when I’m dealing with Chinese companies and they’re really responsive via email. The layaways I’ve done with them were really easy and I just kept a running email chain to let them know when I submit my next payment. A lot of the dolls I got from them were basically drop shipped from the company so the doll didn’t necessarily have to get to Alice’s first before being sent to me. I also liked their shipping terms.

DDE I liked to use for their in-stock dolls mostly or when they had special releases from Luts. But for them, I had to wait for the doll to arrive to their location before it was shipped to me but there was a separate shipping charge. It usually took a little longer. But the layaway terms were pretty good and it was also very easy.

    13. loads of good stuff for both already mentioned that I'm not going to bother repeating. I've ordered from both and ultimately DDE tends to be my go-to for layaways. the DDE layaway is much nicer for me cause there is a place where I can track when payments are due and made (it's all automated so I don't have to worry about missing an email if I lose track of time.)

The other thing that is mostly a me problem that DDE tends to clear up, is the local tracking. There is something about seeing doll shipping from overseas and then having a week or so of 0 tracking updates stresses me out. having that tracking part of processing time eases that entirely cause its just not my problem xD

    14. I have purchased from both of these dealers, and both are dependable and prices are reasonable. I agree that DDE has longer wait times for made-to-order items. I think you should go with whatever terms you are most comfortable with and make you less anxious during the wait. In your case if you want extra time to pay then I think some extra wait time is not a bad thing.

    15. I have a hard time understand the Alice's collection website so I have never purchased from them but I've always heard good things. I've used Denver Doll and they have been great so far especially for Fairyland.
