40–49cm Dolls Alice in Wonderland BJD

Apr 8, 2021

    1. I absolutely love Alice in Wonderland, and I've wanted an adequate BJD representation of her for a long time. I have not found a single existing sculpt that I think captures the way I imagine her, so I decided to make my own.

I made some concept art for how I want her to look.

I was having trouble deciding if I should make child Alice or adult Alice, so I went with teenage Alice. I hope, if everything goes to plan, that she'll be able to look 12-14 at the youngest, and 18-20 at the oldest, depending on her styling.

I'll be sculpting her joints and the base of her head and body in Onshape, but once I replace my laptop, I'll hopefully switch to Solidworks, and then hopefully I'll be able to run Blender with no problems, and I'll be able to refine the base into something that resembles the above art.

My immediate next step is to create reference sketches, so.... I guess I'll get on that soon!

I plan on keeping pretty true to the facial proportions of the sketch. I like hyper-realistic dolls like DragonShell dolls or Natalia Loseva dolls, so I need to make sure to keep the proportions anatomically accurate, though not exact, so she still maintains some mystical charm. Mainly, I want her to be more realistic than, say, a Raccoon doll or an Iplehouse doll, but I don't want her looking like a Hot Toys action figure or anything-- that's a tad too much realism for me.

    2. That artwork is beautiful! I can’t wait to see what you come up with for a doll- I’m sure it will be so fun to style an Alice too :3nodding:

    3. holy crap your concept looks incredible! did you do that with photo editing or just from scratch? either way, very impressive.

I can't wait to see your process during this, if your concept is any indication -- she will be a very beautiful doll.

    4. I did it with both. I've drawn a lot of portraits over the years, and this one is the result of onion-skinning and manipulating multiple photos into one.

Thank you, by the way! I've already got a bit done on her head so I'll make sure to update this today!

    5. Whooooa, best of luck! The sketch is gorgeous, and making that into a doll form is going to be quite the adventure.
