Here's a picture of her ears(undetailed)... Exiting isn't it. This is one elfversion, I'm thinking of making another one with smaller elfears. And of course there will be human version too, but I felt like doing these now ^^ I've started to look for resin, so if you have any suggestions don't hesitate to tell. Oh, I also made her a headcap that snaps on place so you don't need an s-hook for that. she won't have an s-hook anyways, but a different mechanism.
You'll have to put vents/sprues on the ends of her ears so you don't get bubbles in them if they're going to be that long, it also might be kind of hard to get her out of the mold. That's why most companies with long eared dolls have the ears cast seperately. :3 smoothon.com sells a super sampler kit for $25 that includes a pint of resin and a pint or silicone, which should be enough for you to cast her head at least and get some practice and used to the casting. she looks adorable~~ I love the way her face turned out.
She's really cute! I like how you sculpted both the head and the body; I would love to have one if you made more.
Thanks for the comments! If there is interest I will gladly make Ainos for sale too ^^ Yes, I thought I might have to, but I was planning on a two-part mold anyway so getting the head out shoudn't be a broblem ^^ Thanks for the advice though. I also checked that smooth-on kit(thanks!), but I decided to order resin from France, it's in EU and seems nice and easy. I'm going to order a test gallon sometime at the end of the month. I already found some moldrubber from here, and I will test how it works. And thank you, I've started to like her face myself too ^^
I finished the 'mechanism' for the head. She can look down and up and tilti her head ^^ The headcap snaps on place, and the string attaches to the end of the neck, so there's no need for an s-hook.
AMAZING seems like she can pose in any crasy pose you want to try! xD Just one litle detail... seems to have the arms a little longer than she has to had.... maybe just for the photo.... I'm not sure, because it's seems to me in the first photos but not in the page 2 and 3 photos!! The head is amazing, and, how can she move her head too!! (and i luv her ears xDD) GREAT JOB!!
Thank you! ^^ Originally the hands were a lot longer(it was a very rough stage), but I have since shortened them.
The last sanding round is starting ^^ I also need to modify the lips a bit, I'm not exactly happy them( but I'd really like to hear your opinion :3 ). Then I need to adjust the eyesockets, but otherwise I should be able to start making the mold during this weekend ^^
i think her lips look better in that latest pic than in those before^___^ wow I'd really like to try and get her as my "aino" (XD) tiny her eyes reminds me a bit of unoa (i think it's unoa XD) which is my fave part of them XD if i get one i'd like one with big hooters too XDDD
Aino is so gorgeous, I love her wise little expression and those ears. I'm already counting my pennies
Thank you everyone ^^ I'm currently building the mold... Now I just have sit and wait to get the resin ;D
Oh,wow,I can´t wait to see her finished, the last pic is gorgeous ¡¡¡¡¡ And the ears are lovely
Wow!! the last pic let me real impressed!! keep on working like this! i think that this will be a very beutifull doll n_n
this is so cool! After seeing so many ppl's attempts i really wanna make one myself. but i might make one after i get my second doll and get into Uni. I don't wanna freak my parents out too much just yet. I wish i found out homw to make one like back in September then my art-project would have been to make a doll. My deadline is in a month and there is no way i can learn how to sculpt and make a finished doll in 4 weeks.
heiya^^ it's been a while since the last post XD I'm just curious as to how you're going with your little Aino^^
Oh wow, she is so beautiful. I love her pointy ears. Her face is very cute and her body is very nice. *loves* Are you considering making dolls for sale?
Nice that someone is interested ^^ There are no updates right now because I've been waiting so I could order the resin and molrubber. I can finally order them this week! Some parts still need a tad finishing and sanding, but I have time for that while the resin travels. I'll put her back together soon and take some fullbody pics next ^^ Eiko82, yes I'm planning on making a small series of Ainos for sale But I will get to that after I have the first casts, made sure that the molds work properly, and I have the first Aino face upped and standing ^^ Thank everyone for your nice comments!
Mich, I painted it with gesso, it goes to the small dents and then I can sand it smooth. The resin and moldrubber I ordered are here \o/ I'm hoping to start on the first molds this weekend ^__^
Wow, she looks great! I'd love to see pics of how you made the head cap fit, the consept of it 'snapping' in place sounds really cool.
sketchy, I think I will take some detail pics once I get the whole doll casted ^^ Logodae, Aino does have a body :3 I just need to take a picture of it put together now that I've fixed it quite a bit. Thank you for all the others too for such nice comments A Leekesize wig that I bought came in a grouporder and I'm getting it next tuesday, so I won't start to make the molds untill I can test how it fits her head ^^
The first materialtests. I made a small rubbermold for this button and practised casting with it. I also made colortests. I decided to use mixtures 4. and 6. for casting Aino ^^
Number four has a nice 'realness' to it, but I do indeed like number 6 as you chose! (for a flesh tone). And, Did I mention I absolutly ADORE her little ears / nose?!
The first cast :3 I'm going to finish this one and take then take the final mold out of it ^^ Ignore the shine, she will be sanded matte :p I wil also thin out the eyewalls.
Ahh! <-- This exclamation is the result of an instantaneous flood of beautifully crafted cuteness. Wonderful work! I can't wait to see more!
She's so utterfly adorable. I can't wait to see her finished, I'm just sad that she'd be totally out of my price range if you decide to sell her D: but i'll be watching this thread very closely all the same!
Than you! I made another cast and it went a lot better. I just need to sand it and take the final mold, and then I'll be able to face up her ^^ Hopefully next week. Lithe-Fider, I'm casting her in french resin.
Ark~~~~~She gorgeous~~~Can't wait to see her with a face-up: I've always wondered, as it hard to cast a doll with long ears?
wow...this totally is inspiring me to make my own bjd for a character i was just going to mod a shushu for... ^________^ good luck with the rest!!
Healdria, I expected it to be difficult, but actually it's not. I just add airholes at the end of the ears so all the air get's out.
totally jsut realized that ive talked with you before about faceups...no wonder your dolls are fabulous! lol and you own the unoa lusis that i love. ^^ haha, i've talked to you before about my little water elf character who needs a fantasy faceup and all...XD
