Hi all! I'm a middle-aged Canadian with too many hobbies including miniature set building, hand sewing and portraiture. I found the rabbit hole of ball-jointed dolls on Tumblr and realized I could use all of my hobby skills on this new obsession! But I need more information and more doll content/inspiration. My favourite types of doll so far are the anthro sculpts especially with antlers- there are so many cool ones! - in 1:6 scale or smaller. The larger dolls are intimidating, I have to admit. Currently I have a couple cheap blind box dolls - a Bonnie Berry Meimei and a Maytree Dragon. I really enjoy amateur toy photography and already have some of Meimei and Dragon on my blog: https://www.tumblr.com/aethercoffee with new, hand-sewn outfits. Last week I worked up the courage to order a Hululu cat doll from Coral Reef, via Denver Doll. They had a blank in stock but I know nothing of face ups and body blushing yet, so I pre-ordered the full set. Knowing I have a few months to wait, I've started a doll art journal in a graph paper notebook so I can sketch ideas for the stand I want to build for it. Looking forward to seeing everything that DoA has to offer!
Welcome to Den of Angels and congrats on your first BJD! I love anthro dolls too. I also love the idea of a doll art journal—I’ve been looking for ways to document and plan my doll stuff and digital methods aren’t really doing it for me so I might have to try that at some point. If you ever feel like sharing what your doll journal looks like I’d be really interested to see!
Thank you, Saphira! Your blue moth friend was one of the first posts I saw on here and they are SO lovely. I would love to share my doll journal - it's a mix of mood board type collage as I gather ideas for my Hululu, drawing ideas for clothes, keeping track of measurements and showing off my doll photography. I'll take a look about and see where the best spot would be to post it.
Thank you! Yes, it is exciting and good practice at being patient - which I am so not good at, even at my age lol
I only have bigger dolls at the moment, but I love the idea of a smaller cat doll: So cute. I hope you have a lot of fun with your art journal and that your kitty arrives soon. Love the cute houses on your tumblr, too.
