Accessories Advice on a type of 'chainmail'

Apr 30, 2023

    1. Managed to buy for a reasonable price a top made from from small interlocking metal squares (probably aluminium) with the intention of making some fantasy armour.

      Pictures as below...

QUERY - has anyone worked with this as any advice on how best to manipulate the material would be really appreciated (such as detaching and reattaching to make more fitted amour pieces). Has anyone got a recommended technique?

The metal is soft and can be ripped apart (seen enough of these damaged from casual wear) but want to make a neat job and not take huge amount of time manipulating all the tiny latching spikes ;)

      thank you :XD:

    2. I've used something similar before; I had the best results with cutting it to the shape you want, trimming the links around the edges, and then using a clear, flexible fabric glue to attach it to wherever you need. If you want a chainmail over bare skin look you can use stockings as a base. :3nodding: I also tried sewing it on to a base as well, but that was.. extremely tedious and too many stitches added a slight bulk to the final piece that I didn't like. Hope this helps!

    3. I know @MB Lilac has used this material a lot. Maybe she can weigh in on how she handles it.

    4. @Human-Doll it does help thank you, I keep forgetting about fabric glue. I also have gem tac which I could do small blobs in strategic places to secure to cloth. And using scissors was something I hadn't considered (as this was metal) and yes, cuts very very easily, yey! :D

@Victoria Victrix thank you for the heads up :3nodding:

Now need to map out how to incorporate this into some outfits I am thinking of making.:evilplot:

    5. Yay! Glad I could help! Let me know how it goes :3nodding:
