Heya! This is my first time posting here - I'm not a professional dollmaker by any means, but I DO love to dabble! Behold: Adrien Rousseau. He's 28, a leo, and likes long walks on the beach. He's also one of my oldest OCs, old enough to have had not one but two previous BJD iterations: Spoiler: Adriens of Christmas past. (His body is a Dollchateau A-body 03 in white, with the neck extender and the left forearm removed.) Right now, I'm working on the third one! Spoiler: 3D Spoiler: IRL I began by modeling his head in Blender. This was, thankfully, not very difficult, since I was able to base my work off of his previous one. Next was 3D printing the head. Adrien 1 is straight-up ABS (and was printed by a very generous lady in one of my BJD groups on Facebook!) That didn't feel "BJD-y" enough, though, so for his next iteration, I'd used PLA, sanded it, coated it with around 5 thin coats of two-component resin, then sanded it again (ultra fine grit), resulting in a lovely weight, and a texture and finish that's pretty much indistinguishable from fully cast BJDs. I can't recommend this method enough if you don't have access to a resin printer! For Adrien 3, I used the same technique, except I returned to ABS for the added strength after Adrien 2 took a pretty traumatic fall and lost the tip of one of his ears. So here he is, fresh out of the womb print bed in all his scraggly glory, sporting a very rushed pair of eyes I made while waiting for his print to finish: Spoiler: Scraggly boy. ...and here he is after some acetone vapor smoothing and three layers of resin, with a snazzy new wig: Spoiler: Smooth boy. So far, I'm pretty pleased! Tomorrow, I'll sand him down, then I can finally give him a faceup. I can't wait - his lack of eyebrows is honestly creeping me out a little, haha.
Sorry for the late update! Adrien has now officially been [triumphant fanfare] re-capitated. I still need to get him some new lashes, but overall I'm really pleased!
