[Adopted] Zaoll Discussion Thread (Part I closed)

Nov 29, 2007

    1. I create my own patterns from practice. Once I find something that works I make sure to save it. Drafting a pattern is hard work though and can be very frustrating when you do it wrong, but it is also very rewarding when you get it right. I start by using some of the clothes I have already for my dolls or taking measurements of the dolls themselves. If you can wrap your mind around each piece of the pattern and try to visualize how they will all come together, then that is a good start. You might also try studying human sized patterns of designs you like and then redrawing them to the dolls measurements. There are lots of ways to go about it and it is well worth all of the effort. If you knit or crochet already then you know you are artistically inclined, and the possibility of learning to sew is pretty good.

Finally got around to sewing a little pair of underwear into that Iplehouse jean skirt that I love so much. My girls weren't wearing it very often because it hiked up so bad...problem fixed, which is awesome because I really want my Zaoll to be able to wear it! Got to be able to show off those awesome legs!

    2. I agree the legs are a must to show xD although her whole body is a lovely shape, sometimes I keep staring at it for a few minutes xD'

Well, I will definitely keep on trying with the sewing, hope you are right and I might improve x_x (as long as I have some small successes once in a while I dont mind the failed ones .__.'), and I might really have to invest in a sewing machine...will probably make things easier xD'

    3. Omg! Since I got Nicola *Now with flat chest* I just wish I could keep him in panties and shirt and just leave him like that XD
      Such pretty legs!!!
I tried my girl's socks on him.... and hey are way~ too long for him!! Its kinda surprising xD

      I cannot wait do is first face-up * 3*

And get him some shoes *has some pretty high heels in mind*

    4. wouldn't that just be lovely!!

    5. Oh wow! I have to have that little boy! He looks just like Luv's son. He got the same nose and stuff. I'm already planning on getting a Narsha so might as well make it two!

    6. Sorry it took me so long to answer! I've gotten a few this year, only got one more commission left, but all my commissions are human sized, XD. This one I'm doing now is a steampunk jacket for the captain of the Jugger team I sometimes play for. (I'm a dweeb, I know, lol.) I wish I could do commissions for BJD, but I find that it's easier for me to make and then sell an outfit, rather than do one via commission. I've got so many huge things going on in my life right now, I'd hate for my reputation and business to suffer because I took a commission and was unable to finish as promptly as I prefer to. It'd be awesome to see your outfits!

I inquired to Dollmore about my doll's status yesterday and learned that she won't be ready for another 1-2 weeks, but hopefully she'll arrive in time to make a costume for her. Guess we'll have to see.

    7. NekoSam : Thanks for the advice. Yesterday I cut a sock and made leggings for my girl, hand sewed it and it came out quite nice and FITTED!!! hahahahahah Most propbably for the professional sewers it might look like nothing but for me I was quite satisfied and went on to do 2 skirts with the socks.....sooooooo happy with myself, hahahahah

The Narshas are really quite lovely and GuMi Jeongs sculpts are always so well done . I just don't know why sometimes they darken the sides of the mouth like the sister , looks as if the kid ate chocolates and didn't clean her mouth.

    8. I think they wanted i to look like a shadow

    9. the little boy looks so cute and he does look like luv indeed, no wonder I like him xD' and Iam usually not so much into the child looking dolls ._.'

Chibi: high heels? do you change the feet then? *curious*

scrollbrush: successful makings are never nothing x3 and Iam glad that it fits xD. I have problems with fitting <.< made a sweater yesterday that was supposed to be for my girl...it was supposed to be baggy and I ended overdoing it with the fabric so its to big for her xD, now my boy has to wear it ...he is not amused~

    10. Coffee << They are not that high so its not necessary =3
I saw many Zaoll's with heels around and they seem to stand pretty well ^^
Their feet, compared to my other dolls, go down pretty far xD!

    11. oh ok xD I just imagined really high heels as high heels xD', mine wears ones with a little heel as well~

    12. She's definitely still involved in the Zaoll business. Earlier this year she said she was slowly working on a boyfriend for Zaoll, but that she was working on completing a mini first. :)

No worries! ;) Your commissions sound really cool! I will have to post the outfits when they're done. I am about 3/4 of the way through the Moulin Rouge outfit. I have just started the collar piece for the Dracula outfit. :D

    13. W00t!! Nicola got his wig and eyes =D
The wig is slightly too big..... but its still perfect! Makes me think of the Dreaming Luv Wig xD

      Pictures soon > w<

    14. Part of me doesn't want Gu Mi-Jeong to come out with any more sculpts, like, ever, especially not a Zaoll boy, because I can't afford any more dolls >_< And if she does release a boy, my currently single-and-content Columbine will suddenly need a boyfriend.

    15. CoffeCookie : I am kitting a sweater too for my MSD and put to many stiches this time as this wool are those "fun fur " and I have never used it so it's going to be a bit baggy too but I'm too lazy to unpick as this wool goes into knots .....oh hummmmm ...trial and error.

    16. You can buy Zaoll heads seperately now, without having to own one before being able to get another faceplate :D :D

    17. That's great! I love that feeling of accomplishment! The more you make the better you will get too, so keep at it!
BTW...My girl now has 7 shirts! I'm gonna make some JID patterns today but possibly work on a skirt or something for my Zaoll too. Well, it's been two weeks now. It seems like longer though, I just wonder how big her wardrobe will be by the time she gets here?! I think she will be very pleasantly surprised.

    18. I just came online and saw the News, went all *spazzz* ^_________^
      *does little happy tribal dance*

    19. Weren't zaolls heads costing $90 before? (when you had to prove it by showing order NO, etc)
      >_>

    20. Well, I bought my very first place today, a condo in Reno, and so now I want my girl to get here more than ever so there's one less thing for me to worry about. October is going to be a wild wild month now, XD.

    21. Yes, they used to be the same price as the model heads. =_________=;;; I was hoping they would stay that price when purchased separately, but it looks like Dollmore saw that there was money to be made in the amount of requests for Zaoll heads. (Not that I blame them for that...they are a company ^.^)

Congrats on buying your first place!! I hope your girl comes home soon. :)

    22. I want a dreaming Luv * 3*

      Finished Nicola's faceup today > w<

I'm pretty sure you'll figure out which one it is xD

    23. Isn't the new price for the faceplate AND headback? *is too tired to actually read D: *

    24. I think it is for both... I do not really see why they would send only the faceplate is anyone can buy =D!

But I say that while not really going farther then "OMG! Seperate heads!"

    25. That it is! :) The $88 price previously given (for people who already had Zaolls) was also for the complete faceplate and headback. They've just elevated the price for the optional heads now that they're offering them to all buyers.

      Chibi_Fluffy -- Nicola looks lovely!

    26. It's a shame they couldn't continue to offer them for the lower price, but it's still a comparative price to other heads as nicely sculpted. It certainly means that if I decide to do fantasy face-ups and natural face-ups for the same character, I don't have to worry that they'll be sending the wrong item to me because of how it was ordered! (Not that Dollmore tends to make those sorts of mistakes often, but I'd still worry.)

    27. ;) It's definitely about average for really lovely headsculpts, so I don't think it's such a bad thing at all. Dollmore is pretty on top of things in terms of special requests, but I could see how people might get worried. I've had so many problems with companies in general this year that I'm glad I'm rounding out and completing my gang by December. =___=

    28. Okey I'm having a hard time to find information about Zaolls resin "problems" -I've heard that on modell gets yeloow or green like this fast, and that another gets whiter...what is what? XD Would be very happy if someone could explain this to me :)

    29. If I recall properly, it was the French resin Zaolls that had the discoloration problem. Dollmore doesn't sell the French resin Zaolls anymore, and I don't believe there's such a problem with the urethane resin Zaolls. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

    30. I was at Dollmore yesterday and I saw the French resin dolls still available. ^^ But almost no one buys them because of the problems with French resin. I recall there was a French resin Zaoll on the marketplace for a good 6 months or so. I'm not sure if it ever sold. They don't, however, offer the Dreaming Luvs or Ramie in French resin.

As for the "whiter" problem - from what I hear, Dollmore's natural skin in urethane does get paler over time/mellow. But color changes happen no faster than any other urethane resin when taken proper care of. (And getting paler is much preferred to yellowing or greening. ;) )

I haven't had my Zaoll for very long and he's not been out in the sun or heat much at all, so it'll probably take me awhile to see any changes.

    31. I don't know if it's my imagenation but I have had my 2 girls from Dollzone since around March of last year and I think they are paler but no yellowing and my Dollmore Miro which I bought from from Doa and she has been with the other owner for at least 2 years and she is a bit paler than Dollzone. I do bring them out to take pictures so maybe this is the case.
Well, if they get paler I guess all we have to do is body blush them .......as long as they don't get yellow that's fine by me.

The Narae dolls are french resin aren't they and I have seen fierce yellowing in many photos , which is quite horrible . I'm glad Dollmore doesen't use French resin in the Zaolls anymore but those who do face ups say that it's wonderful to paint on French resin.

How long have you guys had your Dollmores ??

    32. I agree with sister-of-charity and The Duchess-- any sort of colour issues were primarily with the original French resin Zaolls from a few years back. They had a tendency to yellow even worse than the non-UV stabilized French resin Narin/Narae Studio dolls. The WS Zaolls are cast in Dollmore's regular WS resin which is fairly stable (not prone to extreme yellowing) and is a papery white shade. The NS Zaolls are cast in a very pinky tone (which is different from Dollmore's regular NS) and tend to lighten eventually, but this is quite normal for NS dolls. The red undertone is basically the first colour to dissipate in resin over time (hence why the dolls are losing the vibrancy of their pinkness and partially why other companies' NS appears to get more yellow over the years). As you can see in my post here, my Zaolls are a year apart in age and my older one is quite a bit whiter in comparison. The nice thing about NS Zaolls is that their pinkness (and lack of yellow undertone) appears to slow down the eventual yellowing process many BJDs face. All in all, Dollmore's resins appear to be quite stable. :D

Scrollbrush -- The paleness is fairly normal for NS resins--the vibrancy of their colour somewhat fades over time due to the red tones leaving and general lightening. For example, my Volks SD girl is almost eight years old and she has faded to a lighter creamy shade (she originally had a hint of peachiness to her). I really like painting French resin, but the aging issues do somewhat bug me! XD I have three French resin dolls.

    33. I did see changes in color on my Zaoll in a couple of months! It surely got paler. It doesn't bother me since I like it pale, and teh color is still very nice and pinker then many other dolls. But it sure happens fast. But well, I can't stand keeping my dolls stuck in a box, I like seeing it around in my room, so that's probably teh main reason:) Although, it's not sunny at my place at all, and I always have curtains put down.
Anybody else noticed any quick changes?
I did because I have soem minifee resin and when Vice arrived, his skin color was very close to the minifee - but pinker. Now it still is pinker - but lighter.

    34. my girl turns 1 year in december and she is paler but that was because before I figured out that I can put her on my chair where the sun dosen't hit her at some point of the day she had a few sun hours tho it is not really noticeble if I don't compare with pictures I had I like dollmores resin really much

    35. I keep my gals stored away from light, but even my girl who will be two next spring is quite a bit less bright pink than when she arrived. I think most people see a marked difference in the paleness of their Zaolls in the 2-6 months from their arrival. :)

I like Dollmore resin quite a bit and it's nice that Zaolls just get whiter rather than yellow.

    36. Anyone knows how is the aging on -White- resin? Does it get yellow or... even whiter? :o

    37. My white resin has gotten a bit creamier since April. And besides it being a bit dirty, it's still pretty paper white.

    38. I have my zaoll for few months as well, and she still pink. Maybe a little bit less pink than when she just arrived but she is so distinctivly pinker than any of my newer dolls. I love dollmore resin!

    39. Thanks you all for the inputs and Masala_chai _tea for the photos which was really cool.
Ok, now at least I know it's not old age making me see things. hahahahahah

I made a room for my girls in my bedroom in a space that doesen't have much light and I think it's ok there . They have a bunk bed and a sofa. I couldn't imagine keeping them in a box as I change their clothes almost daily and bring them to the sitting room in the evenings when I watch TV . They really are a part of my life and sometimes when I go and teach they are in their carrier bag and go to school with me. My students just adores looking at them. Hahahahahahah
My daughter says I have really gone BONKUS !!! Maybe so ....but I'm sure enjoying being bonkus.

    40. I had heard it gets a little creamy, but is comparatively still a lot more papery white than the way most WS ages. Would you say this is accurate? (Just in case I succumb to a lovely WS Ramie! XD)

I noticed this also when my gal arrived! Definitely pinker than any of my other dolls. ^.^

No worries! I love to share when I can! :D That's great that you made a space especially for your lovelies!! :D That reminds me that I have to finish making my bed for my dolls (I made a bed and couch for photoshoots). I was able to order an alternative to MSC locally, so hopefully I can finish the body esthetics on my girls soon!

    41. love the face-up Chibi, especially the colour of the eyeshadow~

I don't have my Zaoll for that long (3 month I think) didn't noticed any change in her resin yet(and knowing me I won't noticed it anyway :/')

    42. Sadly I'm starting it over since it decided to be a lot darker then when I painted it xP

Going for something really different and hoping it goes well now :P

    43. It's been around five weeks after I sent my payment for my zaoll, and I sent an email to dollmore asking if it's being processed. But they haven't replied to my email.

But I did ask for a custom faceup and resizing of clothes for the doll. So I figure it would take a little longer.

      Should I be worried? Sorry if this is so out of the blue, but I just want to know ; - ;

    44. My friend made the most lovely choker for my girl, it makes her really look gaga inspired i just wish i wasn't so sick

    45. alright thank you.

    46. I'm on my 30th business day waiting too. I asked the Q&A board when mine would be expected and they said it would be out in another one or two weeks. This was about a week ago that I asked. Apparently they are extremely backed up after the korean thanksgiving holiday. I asked them if I could expedite the process by sending in a more basic faceup and they insisted that it wasn't necessary. I've not heard anything about it shipping out since. Chances are you're stuck it the same queue.

    47. oh that explains some things then. thank you ; 3 ;

    48. No problem, ^^. With any luck hopefully all your doll is waiting on is the faceup completion, because that's where they're jammed up.

    49. Mine has a custom faceup too so I'm guessing November sometime...It's going to be hard waiting though.

    50. Thanks for sharing your new pics with us, LaPlaceDemon.
It's nice to see Gretchen again!

    51. LaPlaceDemon, she is wonderful :) lovely photoshoot!
sister-of-charity , hope you will get your zaoll very soon. I maybe sound sick but sometimes i enjoy the wait lol. I dunno...it's part of excitement!

    52. Girls, the photos are fabulous !!!

Hope who are waiting for their dolls that it will be soon , I'm sure it's because of their Korean holidays but Dollmore gets their back logs fixed real quickly not like other companies so sit tight because I'm sure it will be soon.

    53. My Ramie just shipped!!! I'm so excited to see her! :D

bulgogi, I think it will be ok. I got mine with custom faceup and sanding, and it too about 5 weeks too, so maybe your doll will ship next week...

    54. oh i hope so! i really can't wait ; 3;

and yaaay your ramie is going towards you o uo

    55. Congraaaaaats! Can't wait to see your beauty!

I love how dark and rich the colouring in the photos is. It has a gorgeous antique gothic vibe.

He is lovely! I really love his styling!

Don't worry--it will all be fine! :) I have noticed many Korean companies don't really respond frequently to e-mails (aside from Crobidoll). They use BBS and Q&A boards a lot more for answering messages, so it's always best to use a company's Q&A board instead of e-mailing.

    56. I know!!! I'm going to be tracking her like 3 times a day now until she gets here lol I'm hoping for her to arrive Monday or Tuesday... *fingers crossed*

    57. Caidanbi : That's wonderful news , just as excited as if it was for me and dying to see her........get your camera ready !!!

BULGOGI : Yours will be coming for sure now !!!
