[Adopted] Volks Super Dollfie - SD, SD13, SD16, SD17, SDGr, SDGou & FCS - XV

Chamillia, they aren't the same, but they are similar. I have an SD13 Okita, but before he came to me, I was seriously considering F-34 because of the similarity . . . but since I especially wanted Okita's *exact* face and default face-up, I held off.

I've seen some very cute F-34s, though!

Grimoire, I have a customized Ushiwakamaru (on an SD10 girl body, rather than the original SD10 boy body), and Mr. Enku, who sculpted Ushi, absolutely loved my custom girl. He said that he doesn't see Ushi often, and he thought she looked good as a girl!

(All of this was through a translator at NY Dolpa -- but he was obviously very pleased with her and asked to take a picture with her, so I'm pretty sure he was sincere about it!)

Every doll that I've brought to a US Volks event has been customized, and many of the dolls I saw there were also customs, and the Volks staff were very warm and welcoming.

I know that the culture in Japan can be much more formal, but Volks has always made statements that their dolls were intended to spark creativity and customization (can anyone remember the exact motto?), so I'd think that you'd do just fine at a Volks store in Japan with a customized girl!

The one thing they DO frown on are hybrids (don't bring a Volks head on another company's body, or vice versa) and recasts (which are direct thefts of their work.) Volks has asked that all dolls brought to doll events be made solely of Volks parts, and I'd think that the Sumikas and Sato would feel the same way.

Hope you can get your Mami to a place where you adore her whole look, face-up included!

Any time I've run into Volks staff, they have always been so sweet and super interested in any sort of customization done to their dolls. I really do think they live by their motto!

What a gorgeous girl! Custom Chiyos are interesting, not many around though. I wasn't really interested in the sculpt until Volks spammed their instagram when she and the other standards were added to the FCS. Her face is so versatile!

Very pretty girl! There really aren't many Chiyos around, at least not visibly.

Ashbet that photo with Ushi's sculptor together with your girl is so cute!

Motiko: Thank you! I wasn't very interested in her at first. I only had eyes for Saki but after Volks started posting pictures of the one-offs they did, I took another look at her. It feels like there aren't as many of her around as there are Saki and Coco. I would love to see more of what people do with her!

It's probably a good thing I held off, though.

There's, uhm... There's a reason why I ultimately decided against booking that flight and hotel reservation for the LA dolpa.

It's this guy's fault.



He managed to convince me that having him around would be more fun than dealing with two airports and fighting LA traffic for a tea party I might not have even had the lottery luck to attend.

He claimed my travel money, the smug thing... But given how long I've been after both of the open-eyed Okita sculpts, finally having one of them in the crew was well worth it, I think.

Heaven only knows how long it'll take me to get ahold of his "older brother", though. (Or how much more of my travel money I'll have to surrender in the process! )

@XiaoCream @Ashbet - Thank you both for clarifying that for me I was convinced for a while until @Brightfires posted her boy and now I'm seriously thinking Volks is playing some kind of evil mind game They're so aliiiiiike!!

My future F-34 will be a girl though, and I can only hope I do her justice with my faceup skills *fingers crossed*

Edit: Just wanted to say that my DWC3 head arrived today! I am definitely going to join the DWC this year, is anyone else here with me? :-) I'm a little surprised (and a little annoyed >_<) that Volks demands we only use their eyelashes/eyes and wig... they're not the best ones out there

 

miffimifster: Ahhhhh!!!! That faceup!!!! So pretty~ There needs to be more Belldandy on this site. It's strange, I don't have a taste for DDs and I don't watch anime, but for some reason I feel like the SD anime-inspired sculpts are so cute.

 

The F-34s are definitely adorable all on their own, even if they aren't exactly the same sculpt. Maybe someday I'll still end up with one of them, but for the moment I'm just happy to finally have my Okita. He was one of those sculpts who was a long time coming for me.

 

Thank you so much! I tried to make her faceup sort of similar to the default. I just liked how light and cute it was. She turned out not too badly for me.
I think her anime-like face is really cute and special.

 

The only actual LE head I can think of they actually have made widely available through FCS is SwD Myu, who was an LE head for years before they introduced it into MSD FCS, but even then that head is really a SwD version of their old standard MSD Myu/Magie/Sakura head.

MSD F06 looks a lot like a mini Anais. There are a few FCS heads that resemble LE heads with differences. F16/old F28 are close to Lucas, but there are major differences in the nose that always stopped me from enjoying the FCS sculpt. I want that sharp pointy Lucas nose and not the softer, rounder one found on the F16.

 

I feel the same way about Cecil/Cecile and the F-17. I like the F-17, but I prefer the more serious Cecil.

Man, I've been gone for some time and I come back and see all these lovely dolls!!

Quick question, for anyone who's ordering or has ordered from the current FCS. I was trying to place an order and I chose make-up with eyes and all, but when I get my total the face-up is marked as $0.00 so I get charged 770 plus shipping. Is that correct, has that happened to you?

 

himitsu, that does sound like an error, since the SDGrB base price is $770. I wonder if your choices registered when you made them. Sometimes there's glitches, and you never know whether it's Volks' system, or your browser. I talked myself out of ordering this time, so I don't know for sure if there were issues with ordering this time.

 

Thanks, beamlette! Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's a glitch. I tried on a different device and browser and the same thing happened. It was a mock order anyway, I still haven't decided if I should place it or not before the order period ends. ^^;;

I don't know how one should go with that glitch, but most probably Volks will contact people soon or send new invoices or something.

Brightfires, congrats on your Okita. I bet it wasn't hard for him to convince you with a face like that. To be honest, I'm on the verge of giving up on the LA dolpa and spending the money on a new doll.

Miffimifster, forgive me if this is a rude question, but this is the second faceup, right? I saw your Flickr and I love both of them, but I was curious where you got the first faceup done? I'm trying to find good candidates for my Creamy Mami...

 

The previous faceup was done by AngelToast (I know because I was the previous owner who had the head sent off to her lol). AngelToast is awesome and I would highly recommend her. In fact, she's working on my F-40 right now.... hopefully to be done soon!

With that being said... any F-40 spam to hold me over? I feel like this is a hard sculpt to come by sometimes! I've seen a couple on flickr... I'm pretty sure someone on here has one?

 

Ahhhh, of course it's Angel Toast.

I can never seem to find an open slot....I always miss it. I love her realistic faceups though, they're so pretty.

In other news, I'm desperately trying to figure out if I'm willing to drop the requisite secondhand prices to bring home a fullset Lieselotte Anniversary version. I adore her, I love her, but that price tag is so very big. I don't know if I should sit on my pennies and wait for the next time Volks release a Lieselotte, or just bite the bullet and buy the fullset version I love now. Argh the indecision! What would you do?

Wow, F62 looks abolutely MISERABLE and/or MEAN, which means my heart is going

jesymphony - well, they have released her three times at this point, so I would not expect a rerelease anytime soon. It's definitely interesting how she is a sculpt that has been released multiple times and has held her value, vs say Shizu/Madoka, whose secondhand prices have been killed because of releases. I'd say really evaluate if she will give you however much joy her price tag calls for. It helps to go "I love this doll, but do I $2000 love this doll?" I'd also definitely shop around to get an informed idea of much you should spend.

 

And look at those EARS!!

My SD13 Mimi's ears stick WAY out! Most of my other Volks don't.

Oh! Thanks for the link! I can see the Alice/Lorina but 62 also reminds me a bit of Tohya/Kohya? All of them look really cute!

 

So frustrated -- trying to get a couple of the Hometown Dolpa Kyoto 11 items (which were supposedly going live at 11am Pacific, 1pm Central), and the VolksUSA website went from operational (with all items listed as "out of stock") to completely crashed, and it's been that way for 30 minutes.

When they were originally going to release the DWC stuff, they had a problem and pushed it back by a week (although at least I was able to get a bust and DWC01 head when they came into stock) . . . and didn't send out an e-mail announcement that the event would be postponed, so I spent an hour hitting refresh on the original date for no reason.

Really hoping that this doesn't wind up being a similar issue -- that the items get released later, with no advance notice that they won't be available at the scheduled time.

Excuse my grumpy-bitchface at the moment -- today has been pretty awful, starting with an emergency vet visit (Zuul is okay, but she needed a 24-hr anti-nausea shot to get her out of the cycle of misery she was stuck in. She has kidney disease, and she'd lost 10 ounces in 3 days, after we'd been carefully helping her gain weight and take the strain off her kidneys through diet change and daily subcutaneous fluids. Unfortunately, she ate something that disagreed with her the other day, and she hadn't been keeping down food/water since then. Poor baby!)

I really, REALLY hope Volks gets their act together -- they KNOW their website gets hammered when they do events like this. Why on EARTH don't they set up a robust enough website/shopping-cart system to handle the demand?

sorry about your pet, Ashbet :< but I totally feel you on the frustration. every fuggin time with volks. I was on the website, logged in, then boom, crashed. I want ONE outfit. JUST ONE. I'm wondering if it's crashed for everyone and no one can get in or if I was just pushed out, because I had that happen to me so many times, more often than not, and missed what I wanted. I have to leave for work by 12:15 and I'm wondering if it will even be up in the next half hour... I dont want to pay triple the price on ebay for the outfit, it's already more expensive than getting through the international site (which I had it crash on me too at that time!) plus tax on top... arghh... I feel like throwing my laptop against the wall.. but it's not its fault ~_~



Just checked FB... it's been rescheduled... I don't understand why they aren't able to fix this issue, or if they just don't care..? I don't get it.

I wasted an hour refreshing for the DWC event (which was rescheduled), and now I've spent 40 minutes refreshing for this one (which has been rescheduled.)

Why on Earth will they not either upgrade their bandwidth/servers, or admit that this system of selling limited items isn't working??!?

I'd be OK putting in for a lottery for special items, or better yet, being able to pre-order them . . . but this "hit refresh and pray" thing is getting REALLY old.

P.S. Thanks for the good wishes for Zuulie! She's been responding really well to her kidney treatment, until this last couple of days (my other cat helpfully knocked a loaf of bread on the ground and she ate some, which set off this whole digestive-horror cycle.) anyway, poor kitty! had an issue with our cat the other day getting into a package of allergies pills and chewing them up T_T that was a rush to the emergency vet too for induced vomitting then over night stay to monitor, it's scary! *hugs* hopefully it will all pass quickly and she can get back to a nice healthy weight. Oh, gosh! I hope your little one is doing okay now!! (A few years ago, Zuul did the same thing with a Tylenol that bounced out of my daughter's hand -- emergency vet, charcoal, overnight stay, the works. We're very lucky that she bit it in half rather than swallowing the whole thing, because it's SO toxic to animals.) Thanks for the good wishes!!

But, yeah. With these events, Volks KNOWS their sales method is a problem. Why are they unwilling to change the way they do business, since they have tons of upset customers AND presumably weren't able to sell the items that supposedly were going up today?

I said something on their FB page, as tactfully as possible -- I have more than 30 Volks dolls, I love their outfits and shoes and accessories, but there's a good reason that most of my Volks dolls were bought secondhand. The lotteries are nerve-wracking, and I haven't often been lucky -- and I also really love various FCS sculpts, but there was never an easy way to get them directly from Volks.

(Also, the current online FCS system is so frustrating -- WHY are they not offering the full selection of Sumika-available heads, and WHY are they offering everything under the sun EXCEPT the SDGrG body that so many people want??!?)

I saw mention about needing some resin information on hybrids I might be able to help with. My fiancee has a couple Dreaming Dolls and I own a SQlab girl in the "real skin" that's suppose to match Volks. The resin match depends on the age of your head and also how picky you are. Both of these companies run on the pink side. Dreaming Doll is the pinker one of the two. If you can give me a feel of what year the resin color match is needed, I may be able to get a photo. Spiritdoll is a good match for newer Volks resin as well. Popodoll normal looks close too to newer Volks. Their resins are not too close for something like 2008 and older (yellowy dollies).

I wanted to hop in a post a pic since I haven't really posted any of my dolls here in quite some time and I've gotten a lot of Volks dolls over the last 2 years. I just got a second hand one-off Volks Aya (who I've been trying to get for several years now) and I also bought a Volks Ran head a few months back (she's currently borrowing a body). Aya seems to be taking well to my Old F-08 (whiteskin~).

Ashbet, myself and a friend did the exact same thing this morning - spent an hour refreshing and refreshing our screens - didn't see Volks facebook post until after noon. It would have made much more sense to post it on the website where everyone kept refreshing the page! What a waste of time! And the saddest thing is that neither one of us can try again, since we are both tied up next week. Sigh.

 

Thank you for the info I just bought an Ariadoll body and an F-34 head secondhand! The seller very kindly sent me comparisons of newer and older Volks resins on the body itself (Planning on using the body for both my F-34 from 2009 and DWC3 head from 2015) and it looks great for both! I really hope it looks just as great in person when they both arrive ^^

 

Hey all!~ Can anyone tell me anything about the Dolfie World Cup that's currently going on on the Volks webstore? I noticed they have three heads released for it and was wondering if there was more information regarding these heads...are they sculpts made specifically for the contest or are they based off existing sculpts? And can you buy them without entering the contest or are they purely for the contest and not really desirable as a collectible? I honestly just know nothing about this and there wasn't much info on the site other than the contest rules.

 

The Dollfie World Cup heads are new sculpts that were created for the event. DWC#1 is a like smaller scale School A. You do not need to enter the contest to buy them, but if you did want to compete, you would have to purchase one of the three to use as your entry.

They're no more desirable as a collectible than any other of the more readily available Volks sculpts, and no less. They're a rare opportunity to buy a head directly from Volks and not a full body.

Count me in as number 3, F-62 looks so elvish, I adore the sculpt! I prefer it as a boy, but it is equally beautiful as a girl too! I really don't need another SD though, unless I finally cave on the F-01 I've been planning since the beginning of time...^,^;

 

I am so excited! I just got a Songstress Cyndy today that is in impeccable condition! Ahhhh! I have wanted her since she was released... I'm actually a bit in shock that she's actually mine.

I got my Belldandy from another DoA member. She commissioned that first custom faceup from AngelToast.

It was an excellent, professional faceup, but just not what I wanted for my Belldandy's look. I debated with myself a bit, and finally decided I'd be happier with my own attempt.

However, I totally appreciate, respect and recommend AngelToast. [emoji7]

Much likes for the Cyndy! She was one of my original grails as well.

I think my pic got totally missed due to the thread wrap of my Aya. I was wanting to mention I was actively hunting for this mold for the last 5 years and finally found one I could afford. She at least was one of the rarest SD10 girls released. I think my only disapointment is she's the yellowest SD i have ever seen. This one is a pureskin from 2004, but she's several shades darker even then my 2003 dolls.

I'm still really excited about it and was hoping to see if anyone else here can appreciate her or has ever heard of the mold.

 

Ahhh! Congrats on your Aya!! I would looove to have her as well - definitely one I keep in mind when I have the funds. Please post more pics!

 

@tiarah, congrats on your lovely Cyndy! I have a Cyndy also; aznbutterfly's Anouk made me want one 9 years ago. She's so much fun with that cool expression, and she can wear just about any wig style.

@Biff, congrats on your Aya -- I'm not familiar with her, so I looked up her entry on Angelden (http://www.angelden.net/volks/sd10/aya.php), and found out that an outfit I have and was looking at just today is her limited edition default outfit! I think I got it at a meet-up sale'n'swap several years ago, but wasn't clear on its origins. Thanks for helping me to clear up that little mystery!

 

Biff - Congrats on your Aya! I recently was able to snag an Aya for a friend who also wanted her for years, and honestly was surprised when I saw her for sale, especially at the price she was and still in pretty good condition with all of her one off fullset parts. She's not an easy find.

I may not be able to, either -- my brother and his family are in town for a precious few days (I have a nephew who I've never met!), and all of these crazy Tropical Storm Bill (!) thunderstorms and flooding means that I may not be able to drive out and visit during the week . . . which means that I may be out in the boondocks on Saturday afternoon, and may not even have cell reception. Gah!

tiarah: Interestingly, the having the funds was part of the issue but the bulk of it actually sort of ended up being actually finding one. There's been a few posted here, but several of the few sellers were unresponsive or never sold the doll.

beamlette: That's an awesome find! I actually ended up with a one off in the end, which is nice because pureskin bodies are awesome! I actually was bidding on a original fullset one back in 2011, just to have my bid blocked. I bought my old F-08 basically in response to my disappointment about it.

Kim: That's terrific! They actually don't run very high on YJ on the rare occasions that they do show up. The exchange rate helps loads too.

Ashbet: Ah yea! I'm pretty sure I've seen them over on Facebook and flickr a few times too. They get to go be yellowed together. It's kind of nice, because Aya is so badly yellowed, she actually makes my Old F-08 look a lot whiter.


My Aya's wearing her one off set in the picture (I added the necklace though). I'm really loving the set even though it rather dated looking. It even came with the teddy bear!
