[Adopted] Volks Mini Super Dollfie Discussion (MSD) Part 1 (Ready for Wiki)

Little Noelle in the garden today- she got a new wig, it needs a little styling.

Pinksugar- a new wig AND a boyfriend! Wow, lucky girl!

 

I thought I'd show a photo of Gillie, my Mika! After having her for two years now, she is finally "right". She's gone through so many looks, I'm very happy to have her settled and looking happy for once


(I apologize her eye looks crooked from this angle and for the terrible camera quality @_@ Guess it's time to replace my ancient point and shoot! XD)


I'm also very excited to say that my newest dollie will be paid off next week! I mentioned earlier in the thread of buying a Sakura, but after visiting VolksUSA and talking to a lovely worker there, I decided upon F-16!
She'll be my Christmas present to myself so after checking her over, she'll get reboxed and wrapped until Christmas day. If I can torture myself that long..

I have spam! But I didn't want to post 3 different images so I made a collage! Actually this turned out to be a very nice comparison of the 3 sculpts!


I love how they look together! They are not exactly from the same story but I love my "triple threat of Ts."

 

I just can't resist showing off Tenma's outfit! I like the portrait I took of her but she just looked so cute I had to share! >___<

 

Oh I also posted this on the SDC thread but I thought it might be helpful for F-21 and Volks SDC Renee fans.

The two dolls are very similar, just the back of F-21's head is big but their faces are about the same size. F-21 takes 18mm-20mm eyes and 8 inch wigs while Renee takes 16mm-18mm eyes and 7.5inch wigs.

 

Do you guys think that the msd head would look proportionate on the ariadoll body?

I just have to look for a slightly better fitting wig. I think the one she has on is 7-7.5inches...a 7.5-8inch wig should fit better! >_< Me and me melon headded MSDs...how I love them!

As for the Aria body question, I can try it out and post a picture soon! I think I'll try one of my NS girls though, just because trying my F-21 would look too weird and distracting because of the two different resin colors. Be back soo with results!

 

Thank you! Yeah F-21 is hard to find on the second hand market. I looked for a year before getting Tookie through FCS. In my opinion, it was totally worth the extra effort!

Speaking of, I have the hybrid shots I promised!

First, the F-21 head on the Aira tiny body:

Please excuse the tan head on the NS body but I wanted to use the biggest head that still looked in proportion. (I would have tried my Schulze's head but it was way too big to look good on this body).
The Aria body is VERY close to the Unoa body and is very stylized. In my opinion, a stylized MSD head like F-21 looks good on it, and with clothes and a wig I don't think the proportions would look odd. What makes the F-21 head so big is the height of the headcap, it is a higher dome than other MSDs.

Below is a comparison of the hybrid to my SDC girl:

The Aria body is about 1cm shorter. the SDC has slightly wider shoulders and a more barrel like chest, and slightly bigger waist. The Aria resin is closer to newer batches of Volks (2011). I chose the Aira body specifically for the stylized, anime look.

I know there are several good options for hybrids out there, so this does not have to be the only option. I've made several Volks hybrids and I'll be adding this information and my other Volks hybrids to the hybrid thread.

I was glad Volks came out with the F21 option. When they offered Renee at the same time as hinaichigo yo I could only try for one of the two dolls. The f21 suited me better in the long run. Love the ear options

I really need to get around to saving for my F21. Dolpas needs to leave me alone... Along with real life expenses >_>

My little Eloise is shooting out for a faceup soon, but here's a photo of her before! I do not think her natural faceup suits her well at all. Hopefully I will bond with her once she comes back with a bit more of a dramatic look, I would hate to rehome her.

 

My time to be online is very limited so I only pop in a peak at everyone’s beauties; however, I am grateful to all who are able to share so much.

Although I do play with my dolls, I rarely get around to photographing them. When I do get some pictures taken, it seems forever before I have time to get them hosted to be able to share.

The only Volks MSD size of doll I have in my collection is a Maria.

I'm trying a new wig on Piper. I think she looks best in this Red Wine wig but it has black wig cap so it may stain.


So seeing how I like this light pinky orange one in Champagne Pink.

 

Lady Kanna: I was really happy with how she turned out. She was the longest FCS order I ever placed. Jane at the Sumika really asked a lot of detailed questions in addition to the printouts and pictures I gave.

I was testing out new light so also took a photo of Princess Peacock (Mii-chan). Princess is her name not her title

 

My girls look sad, they miss their sister, Mihmi. Hope she will be back home soon.

By the way, they are F-27, Toppi & F-18.

I've discovered something amazing! I had given up of ever hybriding Tookie because sunlight is pretty much impossible to find a good match for. Well if the doll hobby teaches you one thing, it's never say never right?

Here is Tookie on an Aquarius doll body (I hope it's ok to post more than one image since it is a comparison)!

Unfortunately AD will not sell the bodies alone but for me personally, it was an extra $300 well spent to have her on this body. The posing capabilities are fantastic and the design is beautiful if you are looking for a mature look. The color is very close. Tookie is 2 years old and has a faceup so her color may be deeper or lighter than other batches. MSD heads DO look a bit bobbled on this body but for my storyline, it works very nicely. The negatives: the AD body is lighter than the Volks body so you will need to be careful standing the doll (especially since the head is quite heavy compared to the original head that the AD body is designed to support). Overall I'm very happy with this body, but I will retain the Volks MSD body as well because I love the weight and stability of it.

 

Your Tookie doll is just too cute, guls207. I can also tell that the AD body is lighter, but I don't think it looks bad at all.

I've been at Christmas Fair 2013 at Sato and managed to get two MSD girls.
First one is a new F31 head that was for my friend from the beginning, she is really lovely!



And the second was Tsubaki in white skin that I just couldn't pass by, she reminds me of an Angel!



Though, at the end my friend loved both and decided to grab both girls from me But if somebody is interested in more close pictures of one of them, please let me know while I haven't sent them yet.

 

They are both so lovely, I would love a Tsubaki in WS myself, and 2 of the three new heads have me searching for a Sato FCS proxy again because I must have them! I've been hoping for something exciting in the next year for their anniversary too, crossing my fingers.

Thanks, Reynardine! Glad I asked! I had only found a website that said the MSD F-29 mold takes 18mm eyes. I thought that was interesting, since most of my SD dolls take 18mm. I would have been really disappointed.

18mm should fit the F-01 head. I had both 18mm and 18/9mm in my Nasha (same as F-01 except for the ears) for quite a while, and they both fit fine and looked nice if you want a more child-like appearance. Volks is very generous in beveling the eye wells of their dolls. You could technically get 20mm in if you want, but I think they look a little too large for the sculpt.

krissi - Yeah I was just going to get the fin ears and human ears but after seeing the long elf ears I thought they would be a fun alternate XD My exact 1 month mark was the 8th XD Mine also say may but my first FCS said march and she came in on valentines day. Hopefully ours will come in early, like in april =D Yay for having an impluse buy distraction doll XD The only things I have to distract me are finals and 2 comic conventions (I have a sneaking suspicion that with my luck the dollies will come in during that second convention... ) I want to fast forward a month!

krissi - Ummm...check with whoever placed your order.... I just got my shipping notice.... 31 days O_O literally one month.

 

I am a first-time owner of a Volks msd with suwarikko body. She is an F16 and quite lovely. I bought her to be a ballerina using the Peapod ballet feet. She came unstrung and I am having a very hard time getting her re-strung. I do have a lot of experience with other non-volk dolls. I think it is because of the thigh on the suwarikko body which I do not need. I can either have her too tight or too loose, nothing in between. If anyone is familiar with this body could they let me know what I might do to have her strung right? I cannot even get her to stand. Do I just need to replace her thigh piece? On top of this the ballet feet really do not fit the mds body. I can make it work but they do not fit in the ball joint of the foot. I have just tried wiring her with pipe cleaners and maybe need something stronger. Thanks.

 

@Denisewha I'm not too sure about stringing tension but I do know that with swarrico bodies sometimes the strings in the thigh won't 'snap' or 'click' into place.
Try twisting the thigh a little bit until the strings snap into place.
You should feel it click into place and you may even hear it actually click once the strings have gone into the top of the curved slot in the thigh.
Your MSD should be able to stand after that.
It's just one of the quirks of the swarrico joint.
I'm so used to doing it now that I don't even think about it anymore.

It is the thighs that are causing the problem. I have retrung her now three times with 3 mm cord and cannot get the cord to stay in place in the thighs. I feel I am doing something wrong but don't know what it is. Have truly given up on this girl at this point. Do you use two individual cords from neck to legs. I have been using one and dividing it. Do you know of a stringing tutorial for this body? I do appreciate you answering my post and letting me know it is possible for her to stand.

 

When you say it won't stay in the place in the thighs, do you mean the elastic is slipping down into the curved swarriko path carved into the top of the thigh? You're gonna have to really manipulate the elastic to make sure it hooks fully into the regular channel hole at the top. You might also want to put some hot glue in the hip joint to give it more grip so it doesn't rotate and allow the elastic to slip back down. The thigh pieces on the swarriko and non-swarriko bodies are identical aside from the curved groove, so the two bodies wouldn't need a different stringing tutorial. And I guess if that is still really not helping, maybe actually use hot glue to close up the swarriko groove?

Just wanted to pop in here and rejoice I have wanted an F21 for MANY years now, but when the mold was originally released I was in HS and there was no way I could order her + pay for an agent. I was determined to order her one day. As a now graduate of College, I was actively wanting to purchase her, but no agents which made it near impossible it felt. Well, today I came on DOA & decided to check the marketplace (which is never safe for my bank acct, lol) And I see a F21! For a really great price too! I didnt even think twice, and got her! Finally my grail doll! I am so excited to get her and will share pictures once she arrives! Ive come to a point, where my collection now feels complete! Just wanted to share my excitement! My fiance... doesnt get why Im so hyped!

 

I'm so in love with all the F-21s, there is just something so special about that mold! Congratulations CathyM and PakouChan on your new lovey arrivals.
