[Adopted] Volks Mini Super Dollfie Discussion (MSD) Part 1 (Ready for Wiki)

Oct 2, 2005

    1. Usually the biggest problem is to do with bust sizes. Some MSD's like Iplehouse JID's are an exception having a large curves. But most MSD clothes should fit Volks mini's no problemo. Just be aware of large busts on some MSD's.

    2. I am glad to see there is a thread for the Volks MSD. I have never been interested in them, buying only Unoas and Naraes. But I have fallen for head mold F-20 and am ordering one through a deputy since I cannot go to Sato and order it myself. Darn!

Some of you that have seen me on other threads know how much I love to dress dolls. So I hope when my little one arrives, probably in two months, I can share her outfits and all the fun things I plan to do with her.

I hope to keep up a lively discussion and share photos with this group.

I do have questions. I have not read through all the posts. So I hope this is not a repeat.

      1. Other than Volks, what is the best source for shoes? What size are their feet?
      2. What about wigs, what size and who carries the best ones?

I figure the body is chunkier than my Unoas and Naraes so I will draft up my own patterns from what I have. I plan for her to be young, about 5-8 years old so I want to do little girl dresses. Actually this doll reminds me so much of my Yo-SD that I have fallen so hard for that she will be just a bigger version!

      Thank you in advance!

    3. Hi Dollwest,

Love to see what you do with the F-20 mold. MSD are my favorite doll.
Yes, MSd bodies are wider than Narae and Unoa. Unoa has a wide butt and she can share pants with the MSd and Unoa...but not tops.

MSD Feet are roughly 5.5 cm long. 2.5 cm wide.
My favorite shoes are Doll heart MSd. You have to watch the styles for the little girl look.
My other favorite brand is Luts. Kid Delf shoes and clothes fit MSD. Kid Delf Wigs do not fit MSd well. The Kid Delf has a deeper wig so I would not buy those.
Also check out Volks USA...for msd size shoes.

All MSD heads are not the same size.. they can vary a tiny bit in wigs. But a 7-8 wig should fit if there is stretch. You need to ask a F-20 owner the exact head measurements.

Check out the database links on first thread. MSd F-20 is a newer mold but 2 or 3 people here own her.

I got to check out member's Sgtgeorgecarter tan MSd F-20 at New York Dolpa. Lots of fun.

Volks also has a several pattern books with MSd size patterns.

    4. Thank you Ginarolo! The feet size are like the Unoa and Narae then. I have plenty but will look at Dollheart's. I have several of them for my SD Volks. I did buy one Volks pattern book from the LA store (the only one they had).

I have some 7-8" wigs that I use for my large Narae (57cm) girls. I will see if they fit. I ordered my fcs with the pigtail style as I want a little girl look. I know have a wide range of doll ages to sew and knit for. Just what I need!!! Yikes, but I just fell in love with the f-20 head mold. My tastes are all over the place!

      Thanks again!

    5. My new MSD Schulze arrived two days ago! I used to have a Maria (same head mold) and missed her terribly, so I'm glad to have a second chance with this little guy. I had forgotten how cute and chubby MSDs are! :D I've taken one picture of him, if anyone would like to see (he's with his big sister F-34).

I wish there were more F-21s on DoA. I really like her cute kitty smile and I need to see more!

dollswest - Congrats on ordering your F-20! She has such a sweet & pouty face. ;)

MSDs are chubbier than Narae but they're not terribly different! My girls shared some Friends 2B Made clothing. Any clothes that are a little loose on Narae should fit MSDs and slim-fitting MSD clothes should fit Narae.

Dollheart shoes are also my favorites. My old shoes fit perfectly and they come in a range of cute styles. Narae and MSD don't really have the same feet! Narae's are really slender and MSD's are just fatter overall. My MSD Dollheart shoes fit Narae just a tad loosely but I had some Volks open-toe shoes that were horrible on Narae - it looked like a little girl playing dress up in her mother's shoes. :sweat This only matters if you plan to have them share shoes but I wanted to warn you.

If you only have "slim mini" sized shoes, I'd recommend getting one pair of "MSD sized" shoes just in case your F-20's feet are too pudgy for them.

    6. Hi Dollwest,

No about the feet. MSd feet are wider than Unoa. You can fit some Msd shoes on Unoa with thick socks but no slim Unoa shoes on MSd feet.

    7. Thank you for the clarification on feet size. I will place a Dollheart order soon. I really like the quality. I just did not want such a high heel for a little girl type.

I thought they were going to order my doll in the January orders so I rushed to get everything in. Now I found out that it will be February. I am not very happy about that. But when you cannot get to Japan you have to settle for what you can get I guess.

In the mean time I have my Volks SD and Yo kids to dress!

    8. I am having it painted like a couple of the photos on the angleden.net site. I did order the Suwarriko body. I also ordered the pigtail wig. I sort of want a bigger version of a Yo-SD. I am so taken by their appeal now. Hope it works out!

I did find out that I think the gal will try to get it in the January orders so that made me happy. I have to wait until March to get my next Yo, Lin. Just my luck they will show up at the same time!

In the mean time, I will order shoes and line up some outfits to make her. Hope she tells me her name when she comes. I haven't a clue what to call this one!

    9. My little one has been ordered. I was sent the paperwork on her face-up. I hope it comes out like I picture her. I am very excited. Now I will order some shoes! And hopefully, Volks will not glue in the eyes as I would like to be able to change them ordered. The gal ordered the 18/19 size eyes. What do you think? The f-20 seems to have large eyes like the Yo's do.

    10. Hi Dollswest,

You can request to have the eyes not hot glued.
The MSd F-20 I saw at a meet took 16mm eyes. I am guessing you ordered 18mm with a 9mm iris?

    11. Yes, I did request that the eyes NOT be glued in. So I hope they understand it. I know the gal I placed my order with requested it. I wanted the lashes glued in and the seams sanded. I will still have to blush and do manicures myself but I do enjoy that.

I know 18 mm size seems like of big but I guess the gal was going by my request that she look like a Yo or tenshi type look. I have lots of eyes on hand to change out.

I was told DollHeart are the best shoes. What about wigs? What size fits them best and looks good on their heads? I ordered the pigtail wig since you don't see those for sale too often.

Has anyone tried the patterns from the Volks books for MSD sizes? I have one book and thought I might take a chance and just sew one up from the pattern. I really hate to sew blind like that but just do not want her to be nude too long!

And as long as I am rambling here, on the gallery, there are only two photos of f-20 heads. Anyone else out there that will share a photo here?

      Thank you!

    12. Hi Debwest,

My favorite for fit and style are Volks wigs. I also love Leekeworld wigs. I get M size (7 to 8 inches.)

      http://www.leekeworld.us/

I also like the Mohair skin wigs in the market place here for an old fashion or fairy look.

I wonder if people in the sewing section could help you with patterns and fit.

    13. I'm so glad you like your girl. She really is so adorable. I also love this size and the fact that they can look so young. I don't have the Swarikko body. I have just the regular one. I sometime would get annoyed with the swarikko legs (and caught elastic) of my yo's so I didn't want that for my MSD. But may people seem to like it. I do like the body I have for her. It's the B-01 body with the smaller bust. Here are some pictures of my F18 (named Holly):

The last one is the one with Narsha and Unoa and Narin.

I can't wait to see what clothes you make for your MSD girl. I bet they're going to be adorable.

    14. Hi guys! I was just wondering if anyone knows if DoC outfits (this one, to be specific) will fit the msd boy body?

I would really appreciate any info^^

    15. Hi Yumenoir,

I don't own that outfit. Nor do I own any DoC. But I bought other DoC outfits. The DoC has a slightly smaller chest than msd. I couldn't snap the DoC shirts all the way to close.

    16. Hi Yumenoir,

You might just need to move a snap. It depends on the outfit so let us now when you receive it.

      -Gina

    17. Since hubby got a new camera yesterday. I was able to take photo that captures her amazing Volks faceup.

sgtgeorgecarter: I love the long legs and she stands wonderfully. I love her lashes.

    18. I have a question: How well do the FCS MSD suwarikko bodies pose standing up?

    19. For me at least, very well with KIPs and not so well without KIPs.

    20. I find the swarikko bodies have small issues standing up. Sueding, kips, or tighter stinging helps. It naturally wants to sit. Proper tension on this body really helps on how well it stands.

    21. I plan to buy a Volks MSD through the Full Choice System by a friend of my boyfriend's who lives in LA, California, USA and order it through the Volks store there but have it shipped to me. Well, I was wanting to get the suwarikko body for her and I had a question about that body by default.

The friend of my boyfriend went upto the shop and took a look at the little order form for one of the custom MSDs, and looked at one of the suwarikko bodies that was on a shelf there that an employee showed him, when I asked him about the suwarikko body and if the seams were sanded or not, and if they weren't, how much the form said it would cost to have them sanded.

He said he didn't notice the seams and doesn't really understand what I meant by that. He has no idea about dolls and never even knew about Dollfies until I asked him to go into the store there today, so even if the doll did have seams, he wouldn't know the difference between sanded seams and standard seams. :-/ And he said he saw no sanding option on the form, so I was thinking 'well, maybe all the suwarikko bodies are sanded by default when ordering since they're the newer type of body'.

Then I talked to a few online friends about it - Keep in mind none of them actually HAVE a suwarikko body - Some say they are, some say they aren't. But of course they've only seen them from people they've gone to doll meet ups with who have them, which means they might have been sanded by hand or by an option of Volks, not actually like that by default.

So in short, I was wondering if someone here could tell me. Do suwarikko bodies come with their seams sanded by default when you order them from FCS? And if they don't start out sanded, IS there actually an option for that at the LA store and my boyfriend's friend just didn't notice it on the form?

I've seen the forms in Japanese, so I know there is the option there, but I'm not sure if it's different here or what since I've never seen the form. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you! ^_^

    22. Suwariko bodies do not come sanded and it is a service you will have to pay extra for. I've never seen the US ordering forms for FCS, but it may be listed under satogaeri services as either sanding or parting line removal.

    23. Thank you for the link, Izayoi! ^_^ I was considering doing it myself. But when I talked to my mother about it she said with the price of the tools I might as well just let them do it, plus my mother is worried I'll accidentally breath in the resin shavings and get sick. =X I think Volks charges like $55 to have seams removed, if I remember correctly from another online friend who had theirs done? And like $35 to have them UV sealed.

I would actually really like to do it myself, to really customize some part of her myself that I can actually do. I know face-ups are far beyond my skill level, so all that leaves really is sanding and sealing. But at the same time I'm worried I'd scratch her or shave too far down in some spots making an indent. >_< I'd rather practice first on a cheaper model, like a normal MSD kit from Volks - I plan on getting a Mika soon after this custom girl, as she'll cost nearly three times as much. (Counting in the fee I have to pay my boyfriend's friend to go to the shop and order it for me)

    24. I've gotten my FCS sanded and sueded. I recommend seam sanding by Volks for sunlight skin but normal or white you can do yourself.

The ceramic knife is definitely a great investment if you decide to do yourself, it cuts resin really well but doesn't cut you. Also wet sanding is a good idea to keep dust from getting in the air.

Gina: Thanks for those links. I wanted to know how to properly tighten my Ria she got loose again.

    25. I really love the JID fashion Iplehouse have up on their site, but I don't have any JID girls at home. Does anyone know whether JID clothes would fit a Volks MSD/SDC girl? Are Iplehouse minis chunky minis or slim minis? Hope someone can help!

    26. The Iplehouse minis are a bit slimmer than regular Volks minis in certain areas and not so much in others. The Iplehouse minis also have a more mature, curvier looking body compared to regular Volks MSDs, so not sure that Iplehouse mini clothes will fit them. About the SDC I'm really not sure...but you might want to check out this post with comparison measurements anyway it might at least give you an idea of the size difference.

    27. My little angel arrived earlier than expected. Little Chloe Jean, (CJ) arrived on Friday. I ordered her sanded, making it very easy for me to blush her and do her nails. She is my FCS head mold #18. Of the 3 FCS dolls I ordered, she came out the best. While she is not exactly like I had ordered, I think she is really adorable.

She is on the regular MSD body. I found the Swarrico body too "jumpy". I wish I had ordered the hands that came with my f#20 but I did buy an extra pair. Trouble is, they do not match her color very well. But I suppose after I blush them and do the nails, they will match good enough. I am quite pleased with her eye color. I took Lauramann's advise and ordered the ones like her darling #18. I did have them glued in as they told me in the LA store that the eye sockets needed beveling and that was the only way I could get it done. So I do not think I will be changing out her eyes.

Since she arrived earlier than expected, I have not finished the new outfit I had in mind for her. So I had to search through my MSD dolls' clothes closet to find some outfits. She does fit quite a few things.

I put her in the Volks "Little Angles" database for F#18. The link is here:

She is #14 at the bottom of the page!

    28. Hi Dollwest,

She is quite adorable. Interesting about having eyes glued in and eye sockets being beveled.

Did the hands you ordered with FCS not match or was it optional hands you bought that didn't match skin tone.??

      -Gina

    29. Thank you! Glad you like her. Yes, she is one of my FCS orders I placed in LA.

I was told the F18 has small eye sockets so in order to get them beveled so other eyes will fit, I had to have them glued in. I was not happy about it. I do not like the glue they use. You have to use special stuff to get the eyes out and I have heard some folks complain that you can end up chipping the eye area. So I will leave them in for now.

The additional hands I purchased do not match the body of Chloe. The ones I bought from the LA store are lighter. So I guess with different batches, you get slightly different colors. If I had it to do over again, I would have just gotten the ones I wanted and forgotten about having different hands. Oh well...

I am really very thrilled with Chloe. She will make an excellent model for me. She will be fun to dress up!

    30. Hi Hoatien,

Here is a guide to ordering Fcs. You have to do it in person or have a shopping service do it.
You can not just buy a head.

      http://www.denofangels.com/forums/showthread.php?t=168913

    31. I need a bit of help with this. I got one of the SwD Myus and have discovered I really dislike the old bodies a LOT. My main beef is with her feet. Now I have issues with her feet remaining straight forward and have just dealt with having to put her feet into shoes that support where the current ankle ball joint is for Volks dolls. But the issue I'm really concerned with as this has happened a couple of times, are the hooks that are screwed into her feet to hold the foot to the elastic. The hooks despite being screwed in as far as they can go have been popping out and now I'm worried that the resin that holds that hook has become stripped. Does anyone else have this problem with the older dolls or is it just my Myu? I don't know a whole lot about my SwD Myu's ownership history. I know she been through at least one other person, but as she was made back in 2003 (according to her headplate) I'm thinking she's just old and this is part of her being an older doll. I'm just open to suggestions cause it's getting frustrating having to restring her legs.

    32. Next time the scrws come out, fill the hole with 2 part epoxy, get the screw back in then let dry for at least 24 hours. Elfdolls have trouble on occasion and this works quite well on them.

    33. Does anyone know if these Dollmore shoes will fit a Volks MSD? :sweat
      http://www.dollmore.net/shop/step1.php?number=6716
It says the length is 6.5cm & width is 3cm while the front page says 5.5 cm length & 2.5cm width but would they perhaps fit with thick socks or is that just too much of a difference? :? Thank you so much to anyone who can answer!

    34. Does anyone know if these Dollmore shoes (or if Dollmore's shoes in general) will fit a Volks MSD? :sweat
      http://www.dollmore.net/shop/step1.php?number=6716
It says the length is 6.5cm & width is 3cm and the Volks MSD Discussion thread says their feet are 5.5 cm length & 2.5cm width but would they perhaps fit with socks or is that just too much of a difference and they'll just blatantly be too big and not fit? :? I'd really appreciate it if anyone knows, I plan to buy 6 pairs of these, but I certainly don't want to act without knowing if they'll fit; that'd be a little over $100 down the drain. *_* Thank you so much to anyone who can answer!

    35. She has a lovely face-up.

Not all Full Choice have magnets. Only the newer FCS head molds starting with Msd F-15.

The first Msd F-06 was LE Phyllis in 2004. But she would have an old skin body. Now dolls come with pure skin resin.

If you bought an Fcs Msd F-06 new it would still have the rubber band attachment.

The hands on the doll are pureskin but with no history of the doll can't tell how old it is.

      • x 1
    36. @ginarolo: Thanks you, I thought all dolls (even the older ones) started coming with magnet placements after F-15. Guess there's no way to know how old she is for certain...
Her face-up is nicely done, but it's not suiting her character, so I'll probably wipe it and send her off for a new face soon. :)

@laurmann2000: Thank you! Avรจ is in pureskin. She's one of my dream dolls (I originally wanted Anais/Tae but now I think F-06 fits in better!), so she's here to stay!
And right now she's shuttling between many names (mostly of birds :chibi) and may settle on something totally different -- so I'm calling her Avรจ (after Aves) for now. ;)

    37. From our doll society's experimentations it seems rather certain that Dollmore's shoes are quite a lot too big.

The MSD shoes are a fairly good fit for both Volks SD and Luts Delf, their SD sized shoes...could be considered for much larger girls, but we haven't had any to try on.

    38. Hi Aree,

It would be great if they updated all the old FCS headmolds to have magnets. But I haven't read that info anywhere.

    39. I'm curious: to what extent can Volks MSDs and slim MSDs share clothes? I understand that the differences in body shape is mainly in the bust, waist and hips, but what about other parts -- feet, legs, shoulders?

I was recently looking at Swan20's lovely clothes and leggings made for MNF and Unoa, and wonder if taking the risk would just end in disappointment, no matter how much I (and Alรฉrion) like those clothes. :XD:

    40. Anything that fits snugly on a MNF or Unoa is noooooot going to fit a Volks MSD AT ALL. Some smaller non-slim minis can squeeze into mature mini-sized clothes (e.g. my kid delf girl fits most of my Unoa's clothes) but Volks dolls are a LOT bulkier. Their arms and legs are dramatically thicker, for instance. They're also a lot thicker around the ribcage than a mature mini.

I wouldn't try it, myself. Even if the clothes had a lot of stretch your poor MSD would probably wind up looking like a stuffed sausage!

    41. Things that aren't too tight fitting will fit. Shoes made specifically for Unoa will not fit Volks MSD. Their feet are fat but my Unoa do wear some of my MSD's shoes, though they are loose. I would ask Swan if I were you. I think she has a regular MSD as she advertises some of her dresses as fitting both slim and regular MSD's so she might be able to tell you about the leggings. If the material used is stretchy enough it'll probably fit but if it's not then it may not fit. I actually find many of the leggings I have fit both my slim and Volks MSD's but they're not from Swan. So my advice, ask her. She's very pleasant and I think would answer honestly. BTW if you do end up getting some, let us know what you find out. ;)

    42. Rikka_Mika your girls look adorable together.

Wanted to share I tried a new wig and redressed my f21elf named Bok
      [IMG]

strawberryblossom: I usually go one sizedown from what Volks has installed on their dolls so your girl 14mm would probably suit her a lot. For MSD don't usually use 18mm I try to stick to 14mm or 16mm unless it's a Shinsiya/Misya f12 mold that takes 18mm and 20mm

    43. Squee! So cute!

So I took everyone's picture... >.< This is actually all the juvenile MSDs I have (Except for Giovanni) Not all are volks, just most ;)

You can see everyone closer here

    44. MilkyTea: wow that look really suits your Claire. I love the wig color and the faceup together.

laurmann2000: Your girl is looking a bit more mature it suits her.

strawberryblossom: Holly looks cute in that wig.

    45. So, I find it amazing I have been on this forum for all these years and have not subscribed to this thread...I just happened to be looking through the new post and here it is!

Everyone's MSDs are so adorable <3

I have owned several Volks MSD girls. Currently I have Yuni (2nd release and my 2nd ABJD) and I am hoping to get a FCS girl at NY Dolpa this year. I have no idea who I am going to get... I adore F18 and I am head over heals for several of the Sato molds, but I am not sure which non-Sato mold I will get. Decisions, decisions! Luckily I have everyone's lovely pictures to help me decide!

    46. Please forgive me if this is a really stupid question...but I guess if I don't ask then I'll never know.....but is anyone able to give me a rough idea of what it costs to have a FCS made up? I appreciate that on top of the basic price there are usually the charges made by shopping services etc., but I'm trying to establish what the doll herself would cost me if I were to choose to go for a Volks MSD in this way.

Thanks very much in advance for any information, it will be greatly appreciated!

    47. Where Angels Lie provides the base estimate here for both Japan and VolksUSA.

If you go to ria_ria, pithetaphish and neverything's shopping service threads, they specify the FCS prices with their commissions. You should be able to back-calculate their commission rates from these values. (Which I did at one point too ;) )

    48. Oh thanks so much aihre, I'm glad I asked now, I shall go right this moment and have a look!
      Hugs
      Sharon x

    49. It can cost anywhere from $550 to about $770-$800, and of course this can always change based on exchange rates of the country you're ordering from and commission fees if you're not ordering one yourself in person. :)

If you're looking for a Sumika available mold and only Normal or White skin, I really can't recommend Nekoiyuzu enough! :fangirl: She ordered my F-18 girl for me and she described the make-up perfectly and was amazing to work with. She's in Korea and uses the Korean Tenshi-no-Sumika, which by exchange rate with USD is much cheaper than it would be in JPY.

My F-18 girl only cost me $548 including shipping to me, paypal fees and Nekoiyuzu's commission fee, though it's a bit more now, I believe with current exchange rates it's $620 including paypal fees, commission, shipping and the doll it's self. It might have gone down a bit since last time, so if you're interested in a purchase you should PM her to ask if the exchange rate is up to date. ;)

    50. Thanks very much Rikka_Mika, you've been really helpful.
The FCS has seemed really very daunting up until now!
I will go check out her thread now.
      Thanks again
      Hugs Sharon x

    51. I hope you are able to get your doll Sharon! This will be my first FCS experience too. <3

I was wondering if anyone could give me their opinions on or have links that show the differences between the medium and small bust for the FCS MSD girl bodies? I have seen the comparisons photos on Creating Dreams, but I have never seen one in real life. Does anyone have one and if so how do you feel about it compared to the regular MSD chest? I am assuming my Yuni and the standard kits have the normal chest piece, but I could be wrong.

    52. Thank you Rikka_Mika! Search was not very kind to me and I wasn't able to pull the thread ^_^

    53. I have both the small and medium bust bodies. There's very slight difference between the medium and small bust but I do prefer the medium bust if possible because it does add a bit up top that makes a cute difference for stretchy tops.

As for legs I'm finding I prefer the non swaricco and if you do decide on swarrico I'd spend the extra for self standing parts. I found that I get less issues of leg buckle on my swaricco with sueding than swaricco without sueding.

    54. To add onto what AfreeElf said about Suwarriko MSD bodies; I'd also buy some SD-sized restringing elastic from Volks and restring the doll upon arrival. I found using the SD-sized string rather than the MSD-sized made it a lot more stable. :)

    55. Goodness, it took me a while to find this thread. And I must admit, I have been so busy with other dolls that I have not had a chance to keep up. Also, I have been patiently waiting for my Ella Jane's return from her second face up. I finally have the F20 doll I wanted for a year! I cannot believe she arrived a year ago. And while I did love her, she did not have the face I was looking for. I posted a while back, the first face up Cristy gave her. She came out a bit too old looking. I wanted Ella Jane as a 5 year old and now I think Cristy captured the little girl of my dreams!

    56. I had to go back to look at the original faceup on Ella Jane to compare. You are so right, she looks so much younger with this faceup even though the style of the faceup is similar. I love how she did her lips both times but she really softened up the eyebrows and eyeliner the second time which gives her a much younger look. I do think you now have your 5 year old. Congrats, Dollswest. She's just adorable.

    57. Gah, Dollswest she is gorgeous!

    58. Dollswest she is so pretty! I love the F20 mold so much <3

Thank you everyone for your replies about the body. I thinkI prefer the slightly large bust myself. ^_^

    59. I have a question about f-20 because I'm plannign to roder on s soon as I am able to save up, does this mold have teeth? Thanks in advance :love
