[Adopted] Soom Super Gem Discussion (Basic, Limited & Special Order) - Part 10

Jun 15, 2016

    1. Same thoughs at my side!
I LOVE foxes. A cute male fox argh but that body don't fit. .... Well have to live with my tiny fox twins or accept that body

    2. arrgggh!!! So trueeee!!! I love the new male body but not for those cute and delicate faces!! :doh

    3. Actually I am going to write a long mail.
Sincerely hoping for an option that isn't muscles all over the place :sigh Me and my gf won't order any of the guys if they are on the 2016 body because as much as I love Soom's sculpts that body is a killoff for us and this is so freaking sad! Modding is a nogo dir me personally because modding those extremely rare and expensive dolls ....Ugh ...

    4. You could do a split and put the head on something else for the moment--I do like the body, though as you say it's too buff for a cute bishy boy. But it's a good body and someone may want it for an IoS 80 head (they fit perfectly) or any other "big" head.

    5. It would be nice to have a less buff body. Just in general it's always nice to have more choices, though I imagine it makes things a lot more complicated for the company in keeping things straight. Lately I kind of feel like so many of the sculpts are fairly androgynous and it would be nifty to see them offer them on both male and female bodies in the drop down menu. That would be an issue with the fantasy parts though, I suppose.

EDIT: Well, I guess that's what the SO releases are for? Lol. Thinking back on the recent Heliot twins.

    6. Raon is such a cutie.:D I kept thinking his facial structure seemed familiar until it hit me that he looks like a male version of one of my incoming dolls. Guess there's something to be said about personal preference.:XD:

    7. I thought Raon was a girl at first oops
He's so cute and pretty :D

Checked the supergem body, wow, it s surprisingly manly?!

    8. I too was hoping Raon would be a girl.
I agree that a lot of the sculpts are leaning towards androgynous so it would be nice if we could choose female or male bodies, especially for dolls that don't have overly complicated fantasy parts. I want a Soom girl! :(

    9. I'm seriously considering getting raon and trying to sell the body or trying to get in on a split because the head would be great for my Soi/Alice's sister, Sophie. But I've never ordered from soom, or even paid much attention to their monthly dolls (no offense, I'm just not into fantasy dolls) and I have no idea what the wait time is like. Is it bad? I'm terrible at waiting more than a couple months. Would I be better off waiting til they filter out into the market place?

    10. Raon is so beautiful and I love his fox ears and hands, but the legs aren't for me. I really wish Soom would release a less ripped version of their Super Gem body, like everyone has said that sweet face just doesn't work for that beefy body. Didn't Soom add the option for a girl body for Nephelin since so many people asked for it? I guess it might be different since he didn't come with fantasy parts.

@Lirin I believe Soom's wait times are around 3 months right now, as I think some people who ordered X-mas kits are getting there dolls right now, but I could be wrong.

    11. Ahhh, Raon is amazing. I just can't decide which resin color to get. :o I'm going to go fullset. The pink is so soft and pretty, but the white is more versatile in the long run... What to do? *_*

    12. I freaking love the babypink but decision is hard because the wig and faceup style in the pink skin one are different qwq

    13. You can select which face-up and wig you want.

    14. Yes ^^ยฐ but I meant only on the promo pictures @_@

So it's kind of hard for me to imagine the pinkskinned one with the other wig and faceup.

    15. I think either faceup would be fine on the pink skin. A pink wig with pink skin might be a bit much, but it's easy to get him another wig!

    16. I couldn't sleep tonight, so I played a bit around with the photos on Sooms website.
Not that they are super accurate on how it may look like, but maybe it helps a bit imagine how the faceups could look with switched skin-tone colours:
(Above the original picture from Soom, down the swiched version)
I exaggerated a bit on purpose on the skintones, because Sooms photos tend to not represent the "real" tones too.

    18. Thats GREAT ! thank you for investing so much time !
      (โŒ’โ–ฝโŒ’)โ™ก

I have a serious question everyone! Does anybody know if babypink can be sanded without the typical color difference problem like with grey and tan skin ?
Like ... is babypink a solid resin color like with ns and cw or is only the outer layer of resin colored babypink?
Do you think something like this
      <- horrible editing skills inc !!!!... (/ฯ‰๏ผผ)
      is possible with sanding ?

      • x 3
    19. I keep seeing this "only the outer layer of resin colored" question floating around and I'm wondering where this idea came from because I've never encountered it with any of my dolls. The only outer layer of resin color differences I've ever seen are the result of normal yellowing and dye jobs.
Logically, if a company needs to cast a large number in the shortest amount of time, they'd color the resin before they pour it, rather than a multi-step process with more opportunities for the cast to go wrong. And you could be damn sure they'd say something if it was a more involved process, to excuse the wait times or imperfections in the dolls they send out

    20. I think people assume that the color doesn't go all the way through when companies warn them about color change when the resin is sanded.

      • x 1
    21. I would like Raon in normal skin

    22. I would imagine that if there were any discoloration from sanding it would be much less noticeable on a lighter resin like baby pink. You could also blush the torso if there are any sanding marks.

    23. Just put in my order for Raon... twins. One in baby pink, one in cream white. I think I need an intervention.

      • x 1
    24. I'm so jealous... I'm trying to justify an order myself... his feet are perfect for one of my girlfriend's characters, though I'd need to hybrid them with another body, and then find one of my characters that needs a supergem body...

    25. Wait so this new SG is male?? I was thinking what a lovely female werefox:blush

    26. With the long hair, jewelry, pink, and makeup, definitely had me confused between male and female. The mouth throws off his sculpt IMO

    27. too bad they don't offer a female body for it. but kind of late now since the mold is male. I wouldn't mind him being a man except for the overly muscular body.
am I the only one sick of six packs? muscles, yes. but....going to the gym every day?
Cerberus Project (sold by Fairyland) makes a muscular and less-muscular male body in chiclines and F65. it's great to have a choice.

      • x 1
    28. No you aren't xl

Actually I posted a mockup just a page ago for a not going to the gym everyday body version. I contacted Soom about this, using my mockup and pictures of several other companies two versions of muscular and normal bodies.

I am not too sure about that reply but I think there is hope.
Feel free to ask them about a 'cutie' body' :sweat

      Hello :D

I'm sorry for being late in responding to your question.

Thank you so much for telling your wonderful idea, cutie version of SGM body.

      I- personally- agree what you're meaning. :)

I passed your idea to ID team yesterday and was told that the body of Raon is 2016 Super Gem Male Body.

We're thinking about your idea in (very) positive way. :)

      Best regards,
      Su

    29. @Prince Whitemare - that was a very nice reply from Soom. I did see your mockup which was perfect for Raon.
perhaps in the future, they might consider an alternative male body as a choice. of course Cerberus Project/Fairyland only offers dolls sporadically so they control
the mold making pretty strictly, but I'd love more companies to consider the sleek male just as some have brought out a physically fit female. (Iplehouse)

I think I will send them a note to bolster that positive thought. I'll have to consider what I say carefully. I don't want to talk about this particular doll but a choice in
muscularity (is that a word?) in general. Everyone loves Fifth Motif's Venitu and he's quite slim with beautifully sculpted muscles an active, real young person might have.
of course he also has a booty to die for.

some of us are already asking IH for a slimmer version of the IH fashion body for men. A 'model' version with a slim but muscular physique. ( a two pack?)

    30. I asked to Soom a new picture of Raon: a pic of his profile.

I hope that could help you :)

    31. Milka, thanks!
Have you more pict? Because I asked to see face-up without PH, but they not share

    32. finally put my still nameless Lupin together. face up mostly not mine - just added some highlights to his lips and eyelids - and still have much work to do to turn him into the Dystopian Faun in my head. Very excited he's whole though! (Thanks again @Madonnafanme for letting me fall in love with him, and @seliah for the perfect Sard body! <3)

    33. i really can't justify getting this one when i just want the head (and the good luck selling the body lol) so i'm watching from afar. But that profile is beautiful. I seriously can't believe they made this a boy doll :sweat.

actually, imo, Raon's sculpt in that profile view reminds me of Volks Amelia, but more detailed (sorry, Volks).

    34. He does look a bit Amelia-like. I think he'd make an interesting young man. if he were a woman, he'd have those big breasts which don't suit him anymore than
      the ripped male bod.

Ringdoll recently brought out a girly man on the #4 slim body with beautiful kimono, so I snagged him in tan. one cannot have too many girl men.

    35. I love girly male dolls too! I'm going to attempt what Prince Whitemare mentioned and try to sand and possibly add some epoxy to the body to suit his sweet face better. That photoshop reminds me of DollZone's B60-005 body which I adore (I have one on the way for another feminine boy) so hopefully it ends up looking similar.

    36. I am sorry, but Soom sent to me only this picture... I asked on their Q&A for more pictures, but it seems that they took only this picture by iphone... What a pity !!

    37. I really want to get this guy...he is just too pefect.
Since I only get paid on the end of the month (like one day after the order period officially ends), I asked them, if they could extend his order period for a few more days.
Anyone else having trouble because his order period exactly ends before payment comes in?

    38. There is frequently a couple days grace period to actually pay for an order. You could place the order on the last day and pay as soon as you can. The worst thing that would happen would be they cancel your order, but if you put a comment on the order, I think they would wait.

      • x 2
    39. You are right!
I totally forgot that you have a 3 day timeframe to pay for orders!
Thank you so much for the reminder...so stupid that I didn't thought of it before.:doh

    40. So I've had my R. Chrom since his release (back in 2014) and have spent most of the last two years trying to figure out what to do with him. I eventually sold my original full Chrom in favor of the R. Chrom, and finally decided "I'll paint him one of these days" wasn't specific enough and sat down to do a painting experiment with him over the weekend.

I just wanted to share the result. I'm rather pleased with how he turned out.

    41. He looks fantastic. Great job @Verse.

    42. I like it. The dark "mask" really suits him with those blue eyes. VERY spiffy necklace, too.

(My Shadowrun street shaman, Jester, would definitely approve of his style. XD)

    43. Hi everyone! I have a little question about the new femal body.
Today I received my Morga, and... I can't understand how her elbows works.
I'm ashamed of myself, since I collect BJDs from 2010 XD!
They're designed like double joint, but the second holes are closed and I can't understand why -_-
they works like single joints elbows and I can't figure if I'm a donkey or are the elbows that are wrong, since in the promotional photos of the body, the model CAN bend those damn elbow XD

      Thanks in advance!

      • x 1
    44. @Shiyaria I'm afraid I only have SG boys, so I don't know what the girl elbows look like at all, but to me it looks like that one piece just didn't get finished properly. Is the other elbow like that too? I'd think you could just drill out the area to make it work, but I don't know how that might affect the piece's structure.

I would ask Soom about it though, as I can't say for sure. :)

    45. @AirimirOfGondor Thank you for your reply ^^!
Yes the other elbow is the same ยฐ_ยฐ! I was thinking the same, to drill the second hole off.
I'll would to ask Soom if nobody can help me! ^^

      • x 1
    46. @Shiraya please don't take a drill to your doll - you don't need to!:aeyepop: Do you see at the end of her forearm piece (the side that connects to her elbow) that there is a little triangular piece of resin sticking out? It is visible in your second photo above. Gently pull her forearm piece out a little and then position it so that triangle falls into the upper slot of the elbow piece. It is designed to grip that bar between the two slots in the elbow. If you do it correctly, her arm will be fully bent!

      • x 1
    47. Insert tab B in slot A!

      • x 1
    48. @Kimchi : I think what she means is that one of the two slots isn't actually carver out. I'm at work, but I'm having a brain fart if my girls have a piece like that or if it's supposed to be open for that little piece to wedge into so the elbow can hold a tighter bend.

I'll look when I get home this evening if it's not resolved by then @Shiraya ^^

EDIT: Hm.. maybe it isn't open after all -eyes Nancy's lovely Tremo- Now I'm really going to have to go check xD

    49. Oh a Faun Sounds Cool. :)

    50. It isn't my Tremo. Someone posted the question long ago and I modded the picture she posted!

    51. @nancy_schroeder_ca that photo is probably much more helpful than my text wall!

I am certain that my Sweet Witch's elbow pieces are the same as yours, @Shiraya because I remember having the same thought as you that they seemed unfinished. I, too, had thought the double joint would be like other companies' peanuts with the double slots.

    52. @Kimchi, Your description was very good, but a picture finishes it off.

The male and female 2012 bodies work this way.

    53. I shorted that tube by half and carved insert a out (tube and elbow) - that improved the posability a lot. Has anyone else tried that or other mods on these bodies?

    54. I did that with my Supergems and Idealians :) I've also modded the shoulder inlets (these roundish extra things with the tube part that goes into the shoulder) by cutting off the tubes so that they're able to stretch out their arms properly.

    55. Squeeee!!! A dolly friend has decided she is going to sell me her Dia head. He is the old NS color, but I am so excited I'm dancing.

    58. I'm going to be picking up my Sard today - he'll be the first (big) Soom doll I've ever seen in person. Was eyeballing Sard ever since he was first released, but never managed to have the money together when he was available, and couldn't bear the secondhand market prices when he was at the height of his popularity.

So excited to finally have one, he'll be my goat-like fertility god (who's not really a god at all, just a very talented fake), Tenya (Father of Witches, Faun of the Harvest, and a lengthy list of more appropriately bawdy titles as well).

Can't wait to start making clothes and a wig for him. I'll put up a pic once I've got him assembled - he's arriving unstrung, so I've got a fun night of part-wrangling ahead of me.

    59. @Uminari Wonderful job on the clothes and flower crown!

@SilverWinglie I'm so excited for you!!! I can't wait to see him when you're done putting him together, especially with the clothes and wig you'll make for him!
