[Adopted] Resinsoul and Bobobie Mini Discussion Thread - Part 31

May 17, 2016

    1. Ug.. I'd love to upload some photos but I'm apparently still having issues replacing photobucket... imgbox only randomly wants to work it seems...

Maintain in what sense? To just have them on the doll and pose they're as easy as normal hands. They don't need any extra care. If you need to restring them it's a very long and delicate process, but they don't need it normally.

      • x 1
    2. Personally I've replaced photobucket with Imgur. You can have separate albums and none of the lag. That's how I've been hosting my pics.

    3. So I haven't been here in what feels like AGES, cuz life decided to throw me a short stick in the financial department for a while, but things are finally getting back to where they should be.

I have a question for the folks that have ordered custom things from RS. Is it really as easy as just shooting them an email?

    4. It typically is in my experience I have a long list of stuff I'm going to be requesting but I'm still holding out on them releasing a MSD dragon girl. Then my collection can be complete....er well maybe lol. I have at least 5 custom requests and 3 other dolls that I'd like to get. Unfortunetly other company release cool dolls keeps getting in my way. Really enjoy seeing everyone's customized RS dolls I'm usually more on FB than here. Its great that they are doing this finally. I only asked a hundred times when I first started just for some custom colors and was told no...lol.

    5. yes, super easy and they get back to you asap.

    6. Had I known that when I was getting my Ming, I would have asked for the hooves to be black like I've seen some people do for their little centaurs. Then I wouldn't have had to paint them black and worry about the black chipping off. But now I know for the future~ I also noticed they started giving out CoA's. That's kinda neat~

    7. I got a shipping notice for my two Wu bodies (one in purple, second normal skin)! Literally one month wait, the shortest one I've ever had for a pre order. I've decided to save up for a transparent doll. Not sure what sculpt or size yet, but I do know I want a clear bjd, and it will be RS.

    8. My Ming is secondhand (I seem to be his 3rd owner), but the previous owner got him a pair of tan hooves, and I love them! They've got color, but I don't have to worry about paint chipping. If I ever order directly from Resinsoul, I'll definitely be playing around with their color options.

Ooo, congrats! Are you going to go for a doll that's entirely clear or a transparent color?

    9. As much as I like the transparent colors I've seen, I'm going with clear. But, the more I look, the more options I see, and I start second guessing. A totally clear bjd has been a wish of mine for years. Only issue is, do I want the head clear, or white with a clear body? I'd also like to make some clear eyes to keep the theme. The wig is going to be a real puzzle. No idea for that! As for clothing, I have the crazy idea of a clear rain coat. But I'll keep thinking...

      • x 1
    10. Oh wow, a clear rain coat would be amazing for apparel! :D

Hopefully the head would be "frosted" enough to conceal eye putty and the like.

    11. To hold the eyes in, there is Mac's silicone ear plugs that are clear, or I can glue them in with craft glue that dries clear and peels off easily. As you can see, I've thought about this a lot, lol.

    12. That sounds really spiffy! Do you think you'll use regular elastic or use a different color? And what Resinsoul sculpt(s) are you considering?

    13. I've seen pictures of a partial transparent Resinsoul and the regular elastics looked like bones, so I like that. The only clear elastic I've ever seen is meant for jewelry making and fits the micro bjds. As for sculpts, still pondering. I like Ming's face and ears, but want a human body. I'm also considering yosd.

    14. True, the bone effect would be neat! Good luck deciding...sounds like it will be a really neat doll! <3

    15. Looks like I don't have enough to do as I'm back again.

I did email Sun this morning asking questions, and not expecting a reply until Monday. I got a reply tonight! So it looks like I'll be definitely getting my clear bjd in October. I'm thinking yosd, so I'll be posting in that thread. I just don't have room for anymore 'big' dolls. Like msd is big, lol. So happy!

    16. Ahhh, congrats! I'll have to pop over to that thread to see your clear bjd when your doll comes in! :D

    17. @kurogane Please do a box opening or a photoshot when you get them, a clear doll sounds so cool!

    18. Here I am to share my new (2nd hand) Wu, JoJo. I'm wishing I could do some more direct ordering from RS but I'm in a holding pattern for orders. JoJo is in tan skin but he has "invisible sammich" hands and I'm thinking of things I can do to deal with the interesting posing options. I may order the articulated hands if I get really ambitious. (I also want to add lashes to him, but I'm not sure how that'd look with his eyelid shape)

    19. Congratulations @A Wee Tiefling! 'Sammich' hands, lol. I have a pair on the way, so you're right, they will be interesting to pose. Cute guy! There is nothing wrong with giving a doll a new home. It feels so good to love them up.

I'm very pleased with RS as the wait time has been a month, for two bodies! My shortest wait ever! I did order the transparent doll, but in yosd, so next month I'll share.

      • x 1
    20. @kurogane

I've seen such beautiful semi-transparent RS dolls that I'm really excited to see one with the "mechanics" depicted too. Hope your little YOSD comes swiftly.
And thanks! I like Wu's sculpt a lot in owner pics but I was so "meh" on it originally. His owner pics sold me on him, so I got JoJo!

    21. @A Wee Tiefling - I'm going to think "sammich hands" every time I look at Walt (my Ming) now. xD Congrats on JoJo!

      • x 1
    22. I love the green resin! I have a green RS in process and I can't wait to get him!

    23. Yay I have so many special resins to look forward to!
@Rakonto Good. I like to spread my own diseased brand of brain weasel joy. Also, I wanna Ming!

    24. @A Wee Tiefling - Good way of putting it. xD And yes, Mings are great! Standing/posing perhaps not so much (though that could be my inexperience), but I think mine is beautiful.

    25. My Ming was my first boy, I don't think I could ever sell him.

      • x 3
    26. @bambistark He's so cute! I love how you've done his eyebrows, they look so furry! Damn, now I want a modded Ming to be the deer lord to my Rong Deer Maiden

    27. I love your Ming! :D My Ming was my first doll, too, and I also can't see him ever leaving.

Ooo, how would you mod him?

    28. @Rakonto
I think I'd do something different with the hooves, make them slimmer and longer, like deer hooves.

    29. @A Wee Tiefling - I wonder if that would help with the standing issues...hmm.

    30. Thank you~ I wanted to try to emulate fur the best I could in the face up and it worked out so well.
Thank you~ For a while I was in a weird financial spot and someone suggested I sell him to help and I just I couldn't do it. I knew I would regret it if I did. Luckily my job situation is better now so I don't have to worry.

      • x 2
    31. I'm glad your situation is better so you don't have to worry! That would be a really tough spot to be in.

      • x 1
    32. @Rakonto
I doubt it, I think that's a jointing issue. I'm more interested in aesthetics. If I modded him for stability, it'd be to give him big ol' Clydesdale hooves

    33. A doll with Clydesdale elements would be interesting, but quite different from a deer one. Would you add dewclaws to a mod?

    34. Hello everyone, just wanted to stop by & share some Joseph & Wataru spam

      • x 6
    35. So adorable! :D

    36. @gaiboiozz Slain by cuteness! Thanks a lot, pal!

@Rakonto Anything for stability. If I did a horse-base satyr (is that even a thing?) than big chibi hooves would be better than some dainty faun boy...faun in the deer sense.

    37. I recall seeing/reading about some versions of satyrs having horse attributes rather than goat attributes, so it's entirely possible! I wonder if Resinsoul will ever come out with a sculpt with horse hooves.

    38. Loving the RS spam!

My two Wu bodies arrive tomorrow. It's been five years since I had a RS doll, so I'm looking forward to having them again. They both are for hybrids, but only one head is home, the other is still being casted.

    39. Awww I love the Joseph and Wataru spam!

I took Avalon with me to the Halloween store for a photoshoot

No one even batted an eye at him being there.

      • x 5
    40. Looks like you have a really neat Halloween store! What a spiffy idea for a photoshoot - he fits right in!

    41. Good ol Spirit Halloween always has some cool setups. I got more shots but I'm saving those for a thread. It was a lot of fun and he only fell over once - and onto his back not his face.

      • x 1
    42. Phew, that must have been stressful (when he fell over) - but I'm glad it was a lot of fun! Did they have any decorations that were close to his size?

    43. Some, most were huge which made it fun to get different angles of him. There was an aisle of creepy dolls we passed through that I took his picture in. So there was a lot of finnicking with him and the angle to get a good shot. The one I posted, my mom was holding him up so I could get a steady shot.

(Honestly when he fell, I rolled my eyes and just said out loud: "You couldn't wait for me to press the button? Really?" since it was near an animatronic)

      • x 1
    44. Oh dear, an aisle of creepy dolls. xD;; I bet your shots turned out awesome! And haha, that's pretty amusing.

    45. It was, I'll post 'em soon, just need to grab a moment. XD I haven't taken him out in awhile so I forgot how heavy he was. My mom lifted up the bag I was using and went: "DANG you must get a workout lugging him around" Yep I do but he's my boy.

      • x 2
    46. I'll look forward to seeing them! :D

Dumb newbie question, but are most dolls of a similar size comparable in weight (both between sculpts from the same company and between companies)?

    47. It really depends on the doll. Avalon is a lot heavier then my girls actually. Noah is a Dollzone Hybrid so she's pretty light, but she's also the first one to blow over in a breeze. Kazumi is very light compared to Avalon since she's made of vinyl (and ergo off topic except for brigadoon) so it really does very. I don't have two RS MSD's (yet~) to compare to yet in weight. Not sure how he compares to MSD dolls who are muscle-y though.

      ( /threads/spooky-day-out-resinsoul-song.758304/ Thread is up!)

    48. Thanks for the thread link! <3

I always figured dolls with extra parts (like a RS Sui with wings/tail and those with horns and those modded to have extra limbs) would weigh more, but I guess I never really thought about dolls of the same size being vastly different weights, either within a company or between companies. I wonder if heftiness plays a roll in stability.

    49. I can say with a fair amount of certainty that heftiness does not play a roll in stability, beyond a certain point, based on my very large SDs (some of whom are 1-2kg). One of my girls (68cm approximately) has fairly thin channels for her size and the largest elastic I can squeeze through isn't strong enough to keep her standing. My taller, heavier boys (approximately 75cm) are such solid posers they can squat while propping up other SD-sized dolls (link)

@Arashi Uchiha - it blew my mind a little when you called Avalon heavy - my ResinSoul MSDs are some of the lightest in my collection

    50. Wow, that's really impressive! I can't imagine any of my MSDs holding a squat for long. xD

Somewhat related, is there any consensus on which RS MSD body is the best at posing?

    51. It's been awhile since I've carried him around so his bulk surprised me a bit but I got used to it again while I carried him around. lol

    52. My RS Wu bodies came today! Wow, they are soooo nice! I love the new double joints, and the resin has a nice feel to it compared to five years ago when I had some RS dolls. My box had a huge green sticker on it saying it was inspected by Homeland Security. Not opened, but inspected. Maybe because it was so heavy? Or just random. I don't know, as this is my first package to be inspected.

Here are the two bodies. One in normal skin, the second in purple with Rong hands.
[IMG]RS bodies October 2017 by SD Hampton, on Flickr

The planned hybrid with the purple body worked, so I'm very pleased. The color is off as the head is from 2014 and has lost some of the red pigments, while the body is new and a lot redder. I can fix it when I do a face up. The normal skin body is still waiting for my Seed Art's Wol head to come. Only issue is the S hook was too wide to fit through the head opening, so I decided to unhook the S hook and pull the strings up into the head and then put the S hook back on. No matter how hard I pulled I could not get the strings to come up into the head. I've never had an issue with a msd bjd and pulling strings. I decided to re string the body and found the arm strings were tied to the body strings. I untied them and made them snug, then it was no issue to pull the leg strings up into the head and attach the S hook. Really weird, but all's OK now.

      • x 2
    53. @kurogane

My yao had her arm and leg strings tied in the same knot when I got her. I think it might just be how they're stringing (at least msd) now?

    54. @BuildingBridges humm, thank you for letting me know your msd came the same way. I do notice that the arms are looser now. I'll have to try and tighten the elastic again. Wow, I just couldn't pull the elastics up at all. I'll have to check the other body as I might need to adjust the arm elastic on it too. Still, I'm so happy with the bodies, RS is so under appreciated!

    55. Oooo, the purple's a really pretty color! :D

    56. [IMG]

Finally took a picture of Nina, my Ya/Rong, after I got around to making her a jumper. I'm planning to get her jointed hands in a while though I'm concerned about colour match since she has sadly yellowed a bit. (She's still my favourite though - was my first BJD.)

      • x 5
    57. Ah, she's lovely! Did you design the pattern yourself? I keep saying I'm going to make a sweater, but I'm still trying to figure out a good pattern that will end up with something that will fit.

    58. @Rakonto: Thank you! And yeah, it's just a really basic top-down raglan, I kept putting it over her head to see if it fit yet. The next one I'll probably reduce the width of the sleeves and join the underarms a bit earlier, but I didn't want to get to the end and find I couldn't get her hands in it!

      • x 1
    59. @IndigoAndAsh - Yeah...I guess it had been a while since I'd tried to dress any kind of doll (been a bit since my Barbie/Cabbage Patch/American Girl days), but I've quickly learned to love clothes with a bit of stretch and give to them. Nothing worse than putting all that work into knitting something and it won't go over hands!

Forgot to ask - did you make the pillow behind her, too? It's rather cute!

    60. She is absolutely adorable!

Today I received my Ju/Yao, and I'm in love with her! I'll post pics after I've done her faceup (it's been so rainy here that I'm not sure when I'll get a chance...), but for now I'm working on her outfit and stuff. I was wondering if any of you have advice for getting wigs to stay with the huge pointed ears?
