Oooh!

I want them but there's no way I'm dyeing jointed hands. Maybe down the line I could get them to do a custom pair.

 

I'd love a set of jointed hands for each of my dolls but it'd be an expensive proposition heh. I mean, most of them are standard RS colours except Nhar who's not only a custom shade of aqua but has transparent hands, getting matching ones in jointed would cost a lot. Last time I asked about just regular grippy hands for him they quoted me $30 JUST to mix the clear blue resin again, so.. ouch.
I kinda like the sculpting of his hands as they are anyway, they're pretty.

Still, be cool for everyone to have jointed hands heh, so they could actually more realistically clasp their weapons and stuff.

Speaking of Nhar, anyone know a good place to get non girly sandals? I need some roman style sandals for him but the ones I find are either sparkly or have flowers and stuff on, or totally the wrong size. And I don't think I can really make a pair that'll look good, I don't have access to the materials to make the sole not look cruddy.

 

I know I said I'd wait for my Jian, but I really wanna buy a pair in the next few weeks for Avalon to try 'em out. I just hope the NS from 2013 will match this.

@purple_monkfish Maybe you could wait til around the holidays and see if someone will be willing to order those instead of buying you a gift this year?

 

Lol, that'd be nice huh? Sadly nobody's quite that generous for me and gifts. My own husband spends like £30 at MOST on me every year, usually it's more like £10. My mother's decided no gifts anymore and my father just sort of throws £50 at me because he can't be bothered.
It's a bit depressing.
I usually save up anything I do get to put toward something nice anyway. I can't justify it to myself though, so I think i'll only get them for my next planned dolls and if I love them, then i'll order the other standard coloured ones.

I have more important things I SHOULD be spending money on. Like a proper outfit for Lidara and a new wig. I'm struggling to like her because I can't sew and her outfit is so messy and her wig is just not right. But i'm having a terrible time finding a wig and need to corner my mother and beg her to sew me a nice tunic that doesn't look like it was sewn by a blind arthritic monkey. *sigh*

it doesn't help that she's way too pale. NS is supposed to be more peachy and certainly my other two NS RS dolls ARE peachy but she's SO PALE and it bothers me a great deal. She's like.. just slightly peach but mostly white. Not what I expected.

Is there a good way to slightly darken a doll that's too pale?

 

Other than dyeing, no, I can't think of anyway to darken a light color. As putting it in the sun would just make it more yellow.

Now I'm concerned if my ns body will be too light. The head I'm getting it for is a peachy ns. Ha, well, I might have to dye a doll anyway. I've heard good things about idyepoly.

 

Avalon's NS, if that's anything to go by. He's honestly more peachy compared to Avery (she's white skinned. Still looks as paper white as when I bought her) and he's an older doll at that so there might be yellowing I haven't noticed. But RS definitely has a more pale, NS versus some companies. (Like the NS for Obitsu is super peachy compared to my WS and Avalon's resin color more so matches WS Obitsu then it's NS.)

 

@Arashi Uchiha thank you for this info! I have Obitsu in NS and WS, so now I can get a better idea of the natural skin color. I think the head won't look too off.

Pardon Avalon's old wig, old faceup and old clothes and Kazumi's less then combed nicely hair (she was new) but this is one of the pics I feel brings out their coloring the best. Kazumi is an Obitsu White Skin/Hujoo Action Doll hybrid.

 

I'll get a pic of Lidara alongside my Wu and Long, who are also NS. She's most definitely a shade or two more creamy white. I wonder if it was just an oddly light batch. I tried heavily blushing her face but she just looks sunburned lol. Which amuses me.

An odd one for sure.

Or maybe it's just because she's smaller so it's an optical illusion. I really don't know. I just know that my Wu looks much much pinker and he's a much older doll, and Long is slightly yellowed but still pretty peachy.

Their tan isn't very tan either, it's kinda.. honey blonde. I like it, but it reminds me of like... pine wood or something rather than tans lol. mmm "Pine" skin haha.

I'm considering if I want to go with their default purple, which fades to a kinda grey, or pay the extra to have them mix up a more purpley purple. I dunno, it's hard to predict how the custom colours will age too. I kinda like the purple-grey, I think it's pretty in how subtle it is, but at the same time it's like "nghh purple!"
I'm terribly indecisive.

regarding Hujoo, I find the hujoo skin to be weirdly yellow. I messed around with my Arthur the other day and was struck by how yellow his complexion actually IS compared to my pinker ns dolls. Curious. I'm gonna have to strip everyone and get pics aren't I? lol.

I've heard about the purple turning a grey shade. The head I have looks a different color depending on the light. Sometimes it looks grey, or lilac, or purple. Probably in a few years, there might be a definite color mismatch. I was going to go the color matching route, but I chickened out. I was concerned with how much is it going to cost to mail a letter to China? Obviously not a lot, but then how long would it take to arrive, what if it gets lost, and I have to do it again? I had the money now and I need two bodies, so I just decided Go For It! My order should be ready next month, I feel so relieved. No hassles, guaranteed.

So, if anyone does go for a custom color, I'd love to hear the details!

 

Probably a strange question, but for those of you who have special-ordered clear resin, is that only available on the lower limbs, or would it be possible to do an entire body (and head) out of clear resin? Also, how see-through is the clear resin, and does it feel the same as other resin?

 

Seconding @Rakonto. I someday would like a full transparent doll. It's a dream of mine.

 

You can get a totally transparent one, there's one somewhere around i'm sure of it. I've seen a deer done with only the face opaque recently here, and i'm certain someone got a fully transparent RS in ice blue too. Let me see if I can dig it out.

 

Ah, spiffy! Does the texture feel any different?

 

Uh... *fondles Nhar* lol, he likes this too much.

It feels slightly smoother, but that might be because I have no sealant on the lower arms on this doll but his upper arm IS sealed. tbh, the texture i'd say is pretty much the same. And it takes pigment, you can add pastel blush to clear parts for instance absolutely fine, which I did with my boy's legs. So you should be able to do a full faceup just fine too, but it'll be hard to see because the whole doll is transparent.
Someone did an awesome custom with a totally transparent doll a while back, it wasn't a rs, it was something else but they got blue elastic to look like veins and then drew in the red so it was like an anatomical figure. Super cool.

 

I LOVE your Nhar. I read through a lot of this thread while waiting for my secondhand Ming to arrive in the mail, and I adore his character concept and what you've done with him. (Also yay D&D! Your whole party is amazing.)

I have a character who is an automaton librarian that I might get a doll for some day, so I want something a little different for his appearance...but I don't know if I just want white or grey resin or if I should go for something a little more out there like clear resin. He doesn't have a set appearance yet in my head, so I guess I'll wait and see how he develops!

Ooo clear parts would be neat for a robotty thing. Maybe with the opaque face plate? You could stick something inside the head to like... glow. Omg if you could fit a teensy little electronic circuit or even just the illusion of one that'd be super awesome, or like a positronic brain or gears? you could totally shove random stuff into a transparent head right? Maybe do it like a printed sort of veneer so it would hide the hook, strings and eyeputty but make the head look like it was full of something else. *ponders* You can get all sorts of glow powders and stuff. Hmm, I wonder if you could make strings glow like fibreoptic cables if you painted them or something...

And wow, that all sounds absolutely amazing! You are full of fantastic ideas. (Does elastic come in different colors? If it could be metallic, say...) All this is waaaaay beyond my current skill level and budget, but definitely something I would love to see someone do! I was just really curious about the transparent resin and how "see-through" it was (I wonder if a darker color like dark grey or black would be less transparent, too, hmm).

 

yeah you can buy different colours of shock cord which is the right sort of elastic. I've seen green, blue, yellow, red... all sorts. I don't know about metallic but that'd be cool too.

The darker colours are less transparent just because the colour is deeper (think like stained glass). Nhar has clear legs and transparent blue arms and you can see the elastic far better through the clear. It's like frosted glass so the shape of the elastic just looks almost like a blurred core of white.
You can't see the hooks in his feet at all, they just blend with the frosting.

Nhar hurts me because he likes to kick me when i'm trying to work with him, pinches me and has an iffy hip that slides out of position really easily so he likes to fall over a lot just when i've got the camera ready.
I've restrung him 3 times and every time he's found a new way to make it hard. Last time he threw his S hook across the room!
The others have all been pretty obliging when i've restrung but Nhar just looooves to make life hard.

Interestingly, my biggest doll, the Long was super crazy obliging when I took him apart. He just lay there, no kicking, no pinging, no wierd limbs flailing out and smacking me in the eye.

Also Nhar has crazy pointy ears which dig into my leg if i'm stringing him or trying to wrestle him into pants and it hurts. lol

Because he's the only one of my MSD dolls who's SO difficult i've decided it's entirely down to him just being a jerk. My other boy on the same sort of body was completely placid about being strung and didn't fight me at all.

I'm one of those odd people who takes the little quirks of a doll and antropormophises it hahah.

 

Does anyone out there have a Tang that they would like to show off? I'd also love to hear owner's opinions on the body. How does it pose? Can he fit into more standard size clothes, or is he still skinny, like other RS?

I like him, but I'm debating....

 

Ah, that's neat! I thought it kind of reminded me of sea glass. No self do not come up with a character just as an excuse to get a doll

Oh wow, sounds like he really does love to make your life difficult. xD I do love those ears, though - they add so much character! And nothing wrong with anthropomorphizing a doll, especially one with that much character.

I'm still getting used to posing dolls, so I'm not sure which of Walthari's quirks are unique to him or if they're traits of dolls in general. (Probably doesn't help that I started with a Ming.)

 

Tang/Sui body has lovely arms, they pose really well imo. They've got peanut joints and are a billion times better than the horrible cup joints in the regular dj body.
I vastly prefer them.

He fits similar stuff to the regular RS boys, he's not that much larger but he is bigger. I'll strip off my boys and get a pic if you want. Only my Sui/Tang guy has multiple arms and dragon feet lol.

He has broader shoulders, larger arms and much much bigger thighs which means he'll probably be a better fit for some like.. delf sort of sized stuff. I'll try to get some side by side images if it helps.

Arghh Ming, his arms are such a pain! And he's so top heavy. He's so dang pretty but oooo he's hard to pose. I think an invisible stand would help immensely, and sueding and wiring the arms.

 

His arms do kind of flop around. xD Mine came with the original horns, but the character concept I had was more along the lines of antlers. I ordered some from an Etsy shop, so I guess I'll see first if I like them, and second if they make him as top heavy as the horns.

 

Mine has the Yao horns, I think it's the magnets that make him most top heavy tbh. He can kinda stand without the horns, but only kinda. Antlers might be lighter though yeah.

Speaking of... I really need to work out some ram horns for my next doll. she comes with antlers and they just aren't gonna work lol.

impldoll trista, she has antlers but i'm making her a bariaur (goat/sheep taur). I was considering using the yao horns because they are awesome but I dunno. maybe something smaller.
but something curly like them.

Man life would be easier if RS just made 1/4 taurs lol.

 

Ahhh, so cool! Those are really neat antlers, but yeah, definitely wouldn't fit a bariaur. Too bad RS doesn't make 1/4 taurs (or have more horns/antler types available for sale separately). I'm guessing you probably want her to have slightly different horns from your Oisin? Some sheep have horns that don't curl quite as much, but I'd agree that the curly ones look very spiffy. Hmm.

 

Yeah pretty much. I wish RS did have more options because I LOVE horns and I kinda like they way they do the magnets in the head cap, they're quite easy to use.
Horns, pointy ears, tails, paw feet... these are my weaknesses. Hahah.

 

Hello thread! I'm joining in because I'm saving to get Mei in purple. I've looked through the threads to find all the shots of purple resin I could find, but I want a few more just in case. Does anyone have any purple friends to show off? Please and thank you!

 

The magnets are nice - haven't had too many problems with the antlers I got for my guy. ^_^ (The wig's given me more problems than anything.)

But yes, give me all the fantasy features! Hopefully they'll get more varieties in the future.

I'm really excited, a couple weeks ago I ordered my first BJD! She's a Yao in dark tan but I asked for a Ju head instead, as I'm not super fond of the Yao head. I was looking for a faun-type doll, and I loved her furry digitigrade legs. I can't wait for her to get here so I can do her faceup.

Yao head on a Tang body in purple with Sui hands.

I might just email Sun and get a price quote and see if they'll put the yao head on the tang body. They put an An head on that body just fine but sometimes they can get weird about slight mismatches. All else fails I can always sand the neck a bit, or the head hole.

And I agree that it's hard to hold onto the money when there are other dolls out there calling your name! I'd probably email to check if it was possible too, which reminds me, I need to ask them about putting Sui feet on another doll.

 

I don't have a character for Rong yet, I just really love her sculpt because she's beautiful and would love a girl to wear girly medieval fantasy clothing hahah.

But the boy is going to be a Half Hag. His mother is a night hag, who have dominion over dreams, and nightmares. I think he's a fighter, maybe with some sorcery. He's going to be one of the "minor" characters in this D&D grouping of mine.

Rong i'm thinking is probably a fellow noble's daughter and friend of Lidara the halfling Bard. Because who doesn't want richly embroidered gowns and stuff?

 

I do love Rong's ears. While I personally wouldn't want to wear girly medieval fantasy clothing, it is quite gorgeous, and I can totally see the appeal of experiencing it vicariously through a doll (plus the doll would look way better in it than I would). And ooo, it's fun that she already has that connection with a member of your party!

And a half hag? That's so spiffy! What version D&D is your party in?

Ah, that's really spiffy! I'm mostly familiar with 3.5 since that's the version I started with and the only one I've played much of, but I love all of the supplemental books - so much creativity, and so many neat races and settings! Unfortunately I haven't looked too much into the settings books...all I've ever played in or run have basically been home-brewed settings, so I never had an excuse to buy the books. Too bad things got nuked in later editions, though. :c

This sheet generator sounds intriguing (avoiding hair-pulling numbers crunching is always a good thing in my book). I'm using 3.5 for the game I'm running now because 1) I have a lot of books and 2) I have some Pathfinder migrants and thought this would be easiest for them. I've heard good things about 5, though, so it's tempting to switch. And...what the heck kind of hag origin is that, whoa. I mean, neat for a fairy tale I guess, but...yeah, not a type of background I'd want for a character. :/

Sorry for derailing the thread! I just love @purple_monkfish's D&D-based Resinsoul dolls and admire how she was able to find/commission dolls that corresponded with some of the more obscure/harder to shell races in the game.

As tempting as it would be to get dolls for some of my D&D characters, I think I'll refrain. (For now.) xD I don't know how they'd fit in with my current dolls. My RS Ming isn't a satyr or any specific fantastical creature (as much as I love mythology and fairy tales and folklore)...he's just how I imagined a particular tree spirit.

I hope the wait is shorter rather than longer!
