[Adopted] Narae/Narin 43/44cm Mini Discussion Part 6

Mar 17, 2014

    1. I'm going to do an 'artist series' with my Butterfly Narae as the artist. I couldn't resist taking a photo of her in her new outfit, with some of her paintings (which my sister did for me)

    2. @aestellica You mean more than with the waist joint? If a doll has a waist joint that moves as well as the one on a Narae, I can't think of any pose that would really need the chest joint in addition -unless we really go into ballet/gymnastics posing or want a more fluid fetal position. Well, maybe an extreme slouch, but regular one is possible with just one good torso joint... Bimong himself isn't using all the joints to the fullest in the photos and poses he's presented, so I'm still sceptical about the need for that one. But, people seem to like chest joints so whatever. I'm just waiting for options without it.

I'd love to handle that body and test it out for myself (and see if it really is a useful addition), because I like posing different types of dolls. But none of my friends whose dolls I could handle own that body, and I won't be buying it with the chest joint (I am so done with those). All I can do is judge from photos for now.

    3. @Yenna That's fair! He seems to listen to the requests of his followers on Instagram, so he might actually make an option without the extra chest joint. Whatever happens, I hope it works out! :)

    4. Beautiful MB Lilac.

    5. I always enjoy seeing your costumes and displays MB Lilac. How wonderful that your sister did the paintings for you. I can see that talent certainly runs in your family!

    6. @bugs6946 - Thanks!

@coleen - Thanks! My sister and I used to make OOAK art dolls together back in the 90's - she did the sculpting and painting, and I did everything else.

Just finished a shirt for my Narae...

      • x 3
    7. @MB Lilac I love the new shirt you made. It echos the floral paintings . Was it the inspiration for your Artist series? Or were the paintings the inspiration for the blouse?

    8. Neither really. The paintings were made first, and didn't really influence me. I made Narae that first outfit ( a few posts back) and decided it was too nice to be wearing while painting, so decided to make a bunch of shirts. I chose whatever fabrics 'spoke' to me. I still need to make leggings and leg warmers for the three shirts I'm working on. That way she doesn't have to wear the same outfit every day.

    9. MB Lilac The idea of the paintings is very nice, they are beautiful!
Fangal, your girl is very pretty, does she have little vampire fangs?

My Narae has been shipped today, I hope all of you who ordered in September also got a shipping notice (or will receive one this week) :dance

    10. @MuhKuh Congrats on your shipping notice! I didn't receive one yet but hoping I receive mine soon!

    11. Mm, yeah. I should make a plea for the classic bodies I guess... At least I’m not the only one who likes simpler dolls. :’D Double joints on the elbows and maybe knees I can manage but that’s where my limit is.

I’ll have to put any more dolls into a hold now anyway, so it’s not like I’m in a hurry anyway. I have my two Naraes still waiting for a new faceup.

    12. Welp, ordered in January...gonna be a while until mine gets shipped. Not like it matters seeing as her head is still in the possession of the face up artist in Russia. Kiiiiinda wanna message her and ask whats up since it's been more than a month, but I also dont wanna be a nag D:

    13. I like a good balance between mobility and aesthetics. As amazing as the posing is on more complex bodies I feel it often is at the cost of a more natural looking body.

    14. I received my shipping notice today! I need to see her new body and how it compares to my Dollstown MDS girls. Then I can finalize her story line. I do know that she is of Russian-Irish descent. Her father is Russian, her mother Irish and she escaped Russia to the Bainbridge School for Girls. What isn't finalized yet is whether she is a student, or has a paid position as dorm matron. She is a ballerina. I had already ordered a pair of pointe feet, so I don't know what additional gift I will receive from Bimong. I've waivered between the name Olivia or Octavia.

    15. Recently I found out the Bimong NS and Fairyland NS were a match and if that were true... oh lord, help me. I hope he never stops making bodies because that would be the only hybrid for me. I am still entertaining the idea of trying a tan hybrid with Fairyland after seeing it on Instagram just because I find that Bimong definitely has posing + aesthetics down perfectly for my taste.

    16. Just be aware that Bimong is using a lighter resin on the new dolls.

    17. Arrggh! My Narae is in Chicago. I hate this part of the wait! The 4 month wait didn't bother me; the wait with shipping drives me crazy So close, and yet it seems so far away! I am excited to see the new body and I have her faceup commissioned with Komorebidolls. I would like to have a Narae on the classic body at some point.

    18. I've cancelled mine and got a refund. I ordered dolls/bodies from three different makers back in September (Supia, Doll Chateau & Bimong), with Supia sending my order just before Christmas, but with the other two the constant postponing of the production dates (as well as Doll Chateau very clearly lying to me and finally not even responding to my messages) finally got to the point were I just got too annoyed about the whole thing.

Good to hear the others had their orders shipped though! I wanted to get Narae body for my doll, but not regretting the result, even despite the fact that I lost about $70 due to currency exchange.

    19. I know the wait can be frustrating at times, and having 3 at the same time must have been very frustrating! Bimong does keep everyone updated via Instagram and email. He is planning on sending 2 items (hands/feet) as compensation for the delay in shipping. That is unheard of by most companies!

      • x 1
    20. The light tan is almost a perfect match to unoa paradise skin. It’s not a perfect match to fairyland, but it’s really close.

    21. Yes, it's good Bimong keeps everybody updated with his messages on Instagram. He was very kind, I must admit, he refunded me same day. Different to Doll Chateau who replied only when I opened a Paypal case and tried to convince me that if I change my mind, they will make the doll in a week... and even in a day!

    22. @shelley my Narae arrived today! Bimong included a pair of heel feet and an extra set of hands as a gift for the long wait. In addition, he sent a bunch of treats, such as cookies and candies! Her head will be mailed out tomorrow for faceup!

      • x 1
    23. Congrats!! I'd love to see body and head pics!! :)

    24. @coleen Congratulations! :celebrate :cake: I've heard about Bimong's treats!

    25. I picked up my Narae from customs this week :)
So many treats! But I already ate them all today XD

The body is very posable, now those heads need face-ups...

    26. I wasn’t able to get in on this sale but I definitely want one of these amazing bodies this year. It’s become my dream to replace my Fairyline body that I absolutely hate with Bimong’s. Crossing my fingers there are more pre-orders this year. He did say there would be more, but I don’t know if I could jump on it if it were too soon from now.

Congratulations on everyone who got their dolls. I’m so happy for you all and I can’t wait to see more of them.

    27. The last order period for the 40cm bodies started in mid January, so I think it will be at least several months. Bimong also offers layaway.

    28. @marci12 Here is a pic of my Narae. Her head is already on it's way for faceup.

    29. I love seeing all these new dolls!! There aren't really any box opening vids on YouTube unfortunately. I have one of the new 40 narae bodies and the cat head on layaway. Can't wait! :)

Oh, and all those with the new 40 bodies, do you find they can stand better? Their legs hold poses better like Bimong said?

And do their wrist and ankle joints have wresting notches so you don't have to fight to change hand and feet parts?

    30. There are no notches on the wrists/ankles, sadly, so changing those parts is still a fight... (I don't know why next to no company has them, they are the thing I liked most about Volks bodies)
Also I think the knees are still a weak point (But I can't compare her to the old new Narae body). I get her to stand on two legs easily, but I wasn't able to get her to stand on one leg (yet).
EDIT: 1 1/2 legs works with some patience.

    31. Hi everyone!! I just preordered the new 40 body and I hoping to hybrid the body with either a Fairyland MNF or Luts KDF head, but from what pictures I've seen here, the resin looks much pinker than either Fairyland or Luts normal skin. Can anyone here that just received the new body in normal pink tell me what the resin color is like? Is it really pink with no yellow at all? The body was so expensive and it would double suck if I can't hybrid it with one of my heads.

    32. The new NS resin matches Supia normal skin very well. Here is Supia Sujin on the first new 43cm body
      [IMG]

    33. Thank you!! If I'm lucky, the Fairyland head will work as it has more pink than the Luts.

    34. Yes, exactly!! I really don't understand why the resting notches aren't everywhere. Only Volks and IOS 50 bodies have them that I know of...so sad as they make putting on outfits and changing hands and feet SO much easier!! But I'll deal, lol. Thanks for the insight; as long as she can stand without her legs wanting to collapse into sitting, I'm good :).

I also have the new FL minifee Niella on layaway, who can supposedly stand on one leg too. So looking forward to comparing those 2 dolls when I get them!

    35. April Story also has them! The Soom iMda bodies have a ridge inside the arm that will hold the hook.

      • x 1
    36. Thank you so much for this! This is one of the hybrid options I am considering for my preordered NS body. How is the motion of the head on the body?

    37. The head isn't on 4th be body now but I don't remember any issues with the head movement. The little neck cap she is holding came with the body. I guess if you need a longer neck for some heads!

    38. Thank you :) This is super useful information.

    39. I know he offers layaway, but for me it's more a timing thing than a money thing. I need to see the resin in my hands, so I'm getting samples in a few days that I ordered with some feet I got from Bimong. It'll be normal, tan, and olive skins. I plan to compare them to Fairyland, Dollzone, and Supia resins.

It's an expensive body, so it's important that it can match an existing head at home. I love his face sculpts but they're too realistic for my mostly Minifee crew. The only one I think might be okay is the Narin 401/403 with the more mature girls I own, but we'll see. He mentioned he's renewing the 40cm boy body too.

However, I will say, seeing that Minisup on Bimong's body brings me joy. I have a Hayul head coming home and she'll need a body. I've made it a rule that no duplicate bodies at home and since I'll want a tan Minisup later in life, my NS Hayul needs another body.

My friend got that body already (the Motion line) and she calls it a bust. It can't do half of the things they did on that promo video straight out of the box (it's an edited video so who knows how long it took them to balance those poses in reality; maybe you can with a lot more time and minutes to play with it) so sueding will be mandatory in her estimation, but she's not going to keep it in the end.

I guess we have to wait for a lot more people to come out with their reviews on all these new bodies. Most people don't post their thoughts/pictures online and it's understandable why. I would especially love to see Bimong's body compared to an assortment of other MSD bodies from an unbiased source. It's nice to know exactly what you're getting into without all the fanfare.

    40. Exactly!! I so wish there was a decent body review vid out there. I ordered the new 40, so I'll see first hand how it compares to my other dolls. And I'm not loyal to any one company; I'm sold by the doll's story and presentation, and am fascinated by all the different craftsmanships. FL, Volks, and Switch are my faves though right now. And I have such plans for that cat head, lol.

But I do hope it's not a "dud." I've had bodies less possible than FL...we'll see then.

    41. I was happy with the new 40 body. I will admit I was more into doing poses sitting & reclining than standing. I was happy to get realistic poses, as shown in my picture a few posts above. When the arms and legs were posed they held their pose.

I don't have a lot of MSD dolls to compare, but I do have DollsTown 5yr and 7yr bodies. They have to be wired and/or sueded to hold poses. They don't stand worth a darn without. I also have an Iplehouse JID and she doesn't pose well, but she is just on a stand in the doll cabinet and I never do anything with her.

    42. omg so he's sending out the old Dandelion head in a 6.5 inch size to everyone who ordered the $300 new 6.5 inch head a few months back. Im pretty stoked to be receiving two heads now, but the first one is already with the faceup artist and I'm worried that I might end up liking the second one more arhfjdskfkjsfjbs

    43. Two heads are always better than one! They can share the body!

    44. [IMG]

But is the difference between them really that big?

    45. Omg! Is this true? I'm so stoked!!!

    46. Yeah, he posted on his Instagram! Now I'm thinking twins but I dont wanna buy another bodddddddyyyyyy (maybe that was his plan all along)

    47. So I got my Bimong resin samples today in normal, light tan, and olive skins. I want to say that if you're like me — trying to get that gorgeous Narae40 body in tan for a Fairyland head, and you take phone pics, you're screwed. The match is good enough in person, almost "perfect" to the naked eye, but when that phone picks up the resin... boy, it's terrible. If you shoot with a dSLR, you might be okay. Anyways. Have some resins compared.

    48. dollsoflace Thanks for that. So is the Olive tone is a closer match in real life or the Light Tan ??

I am in the January order, fully paid, so am very excited that my Narae maybe ready soon. I ordered the new body, head, extra hands x2 and extra feet x2. in Light Tan. This is my first Narae for such a long time. I have 2 that were from D-Storic days and they are very loved.
I will have to go back and buy another head though when the ordering is back up and maybe another pair of hands.

Here's hoping it's not too much longer.

    49. I see his new narae40 and some hand/feet parts are back up for sale :)

    50. Closest to Fairyland in life is Light Tan. Although my FL tan is from 2017, so I can't speak for anything prior to that. And it only seems to pick up well if shot with dSLR. It's completely off otherwise (in pictures.)

Bimong had mentioned he's working on the Narin40 body... and that might be something for me to jump on for sure. Now that I know what two of his tans look like, I can definitely say I like them.

    51. I saw the body back up and some hands and feet. I'm waiting for the other head I want before I order again.

I do like the look of the Olive colour. My 2 other D-Storic Narae's are Light Tan Korean resin and Tan A French resin. Both Tans are lovely. I am really looking forward to Bimongs Light Tan. It looks a little darker, which will be nice.

    52. @ourtangledbones To answer your question re: dandelion sculpts, yes, they're basically totally different sculpts (though they look like relatives for sure).

Nice to see the new colors! That olive is yummy. <3

I just adopted an old d-storic tan girl, and she's a super welcome complement to my pale ivory classic. :3

      Meet Tanit, the new girl.

    53. I myself think that the body can do great poses. Among the MSDs I have (and had) probably one of the best posers. I haven't tried the poses that were advertised with this body, but I have played around a bit with all of my girls and posted them on my Flickr (see signature)

I have to admit I like the waist joint, I think it increases the range of movement significantly, though the aesthetics is probably not everyone's cup of tea...
I'm not very good at posing dolls, but I was surprised that only my Unoa, Rossette and Narae could actually kneel o.O
And someone said that Unoa Paradise skin matches Bimong light tan... well, it doesn't... at least not the current batch...

@rianne Your new girl is gorgeous! Congratulations!

    54. I hope that people don’t misunderstand my post up there in the previous page — my friend said the Motion line from Fairyland was the bust, not the Narae40.

I’ll edit to clarify just in case, sometimes I just suck at the whole communication thing. ^^ I also meant the video posted of the motion line was misleading, as I feel a lot of their image blog posing pictures are too.

Bimong has always been honest about what his bodies can do and is constantly pushing himself to make better quality and possibilities. He’s such an entirely admirable designer. He listens to feedback and is critical of his own work which in turn helps him push forward and strive harder. I think some companies stagnate when they think they’ve reached the highest peak of their game. Art is all about continual growth and learning, so I really admire his humble soul.

The same friend who is utterly disappointed in her motion line body has nothing but praises for her Narae40! It was this body which opened her eyes to how very limited Fairyland is across the board. Now we want to see what other companies have to offer in terms of posing because we’ve “woken up” as it were.

I’m so happy people are posting more of Narae40. It’s sad I probably won’t hybrid it with FL tan, but it’ll still be an option for some NS dolls I want to hybrid in the future.

    55. @dollsoflace thanks for the clarification! I too thought you were talking about Narae instead of FL!

I just received my photos of my finished faceup from Kira Singleton of Komorebidolls AKA @rianne! I can't wait to get her home!

    56. @dollsoflace Thank you for posting that resin comparison! :) It's good to know that Bimong is willing to send resin samples. I'd love to get some of the newer hands for my D-storic cast Narae, but I've been unsure whether the Art Bimong Normal skin would be a match as she's quite pale.

For me it's actually the chest joint that ruins the aesthetics. :sweat I very much prefer waist joints in terms of aesthetic and posing. Chest joints generally look awkward when bent and the range of movement is quite limited (worst offenders out of the dolls that I've owned have been Fairyland and Iplehouse, Withdoll and Souldoll have tolerable chest joints for their 1/4 scale dolls, but I'd still prefer if they had an option to choose a waist joint instead). When I started in the hobby, there was nothing but waist joints around and the original Narae43 body has such a lovely waist joint with a great range of movement. It's one of my favourite 1/4 scale bodies, for sure, and poses great. Narae43 body just never looks "broken" the way that most bodies with chest joints do, when you bend the torso: example.

      I'm curious about this new Narae body, too, because especially the triple rail joints on the knees and the elbow joints seem great from the photos that I've seen... but I just don't like that torso as it is with the chest joint. :( It makes the upper torso's shape really off and for me personally it wouldn't make that much of a difference in the range of movement because I know I'm perfectly happy with the waist joint on my older Narae body. I wish there was an option to choose a torso without the chest joint and only with a waist joint. The fact that the new body is taller would be a plus, too, because it'd be perfect for a character of mine that should be taller than my N416 Narae on the older body. I also like that this new body can shrug, it'd be great for some hunched model poses (the character I'd want to shell is a model). But as long as there is the chest joint, I don't think I'll end up getting this body even though I'd be curious about it otherwise. I'm just so done with chest joints making things awkward when posing my dolls. =__=;;

    57. Oh no, I totally misunderstood, I'm sorry! :doh
Yeah, Fairyland Minifee aren't really good posers, but they have cute faces :whee:

Ah I see. I always mix up the joint names... But I understand, it looks unnatural when the doll bends at the chest joint... But the additional waist joint of Narae40 lessens that impression, I think, it looks softer.
I'm also looking forward to the upgrade of the old Narae body :) I have to admit I usually put aesthetics over mobility (and the fewer joints the more natural the look in my opinion), but I made an exception for the new Bimong bodies...

    58. coleen I just love the face-up you have chosen. Wow!!

I am so looking forward to this new body with all the possibilities it has for posing. Luckily I don't mind the aesthetics of the joints at all. I just accept that this is how she will be. She will be wearing clothing after all. I haven't thought of a name for mine yet.

    59. @Kiwiana, I am glad you like her faceup! @rianne executed my vision beautifully! I have had other faceups done by artists and I was very happy, but this was the first time I had a specific look in mind. @rianne does the most incredible freckling! I will need to get an open eye head when Bimong reopens his ordering period. And I want to get a Dandelion too!

I've been knitting a dress for my Narae but the pattern was based on the old body so it was too small in the hips. I haven't been happy with the results of my efforts and I am now on prototype #4! Color, yarn, or design I've not been happy. Hopefully this one will be successful!

    60. coleen I need a bit more practice at freckles. Not sure yet what mine will look like yet.
I have an N402 and a N406. They are both lovely, as are all the Narae's! There is something special about Narae.
I want to get the N410 like yours when that comes up again. My new girl is coming with the N404 head.

Keep on knitting! I can't knit but I can sew.
