[Adopted] Mirodoll Discussion - Part V !

Mar 3, 2016

    1. @jhiggi Thanks! Her skin tone looks a lot prettier in pictures. I have other dolls from different companies in tan skin that makes hers look like she's a zombie. :sweat it's very gray in comparison.

Also, has anyone heard anything from Mirodoll? I emailed them twice, first time was on the 10th, no reply. Sent a Facebook message on the 18th and they said there was a heat wave in China and they couldn't work. But now its the 24th and still no replies. They didn't send me the feet I ordered... Now it feels like they are avoiding me.

    2. @Dark Angel she's lovely! I think you picked the perfect wig for her too.

    3. Thank you! I'm pretty satisfied with how she looks now. Initially I had a little trouble bonding but after restringing, hot glue suedeing and a couple wig changes, I like her a lot better. The only thing I might change is her eyes. I think I want them to be a little darker blue.

    4. @Dark Angel : Oh... she's gorgeous!!!!!!! I agree darker eyes might stand out a bit better, but she's very beautiful!! I'm so glad you've started bonding with her. I think Iris is stunning and adore mine tremendously ~ Even though she's sitting on my table still nude and faceupless... but she's like this gorgeous goddess! If you do change her eyes please be sure to share her with us again!

    5. Thank you! She's really growing on me and I can't wait to take her out for some real photos.

I did switch her eyes to some that are a little darker, and also a size bigger. I didn't have darker blue ones in the 14mm. :( Oh well, I don't think it looks too big. Bigger eyes are supposed to show innocence, right? I guess that's what I'm going for. Lol.

    6. That eye color really pops. I don't think they're too big at all. :)

    7. Ohhh, that darker color fits her well! whether the eyes are too large or not, for now they do her wonders! And it gives you time to decide if you really need to go smaller. But still, just wow!!

    8. Aw wow your Iris looks lovely.

By coincidence I'm going to be attempting a face-up on my girl (weather permitting) this weekend in an attempt to convince myself that it's worth spending the time on this girl to keep her - really like the HS, and the look of the 70cm female body - strongly dislike that it needs so much work to get it on a par with the similarly priced Resinsoul equivalent, and how very yellow the particular batch of YS I received turned out to be. (Put it this way, she made my old (the almost tanned stuff) yellow skin Dollzone look downright pink in comparison)

    9. Thanks! I think I'll stick with these ones for a while.

I hope you get a chance to paint her. I'd love to see when you do.

    10. Lovely lady @Dark Angel -- thanks for sharing her. :aheartbea I agree that she looks great with her new eyes.

Hi there everyone! I just received this darling 62cm Mika yesterday. It's the first time I've had a full MiroDoll at home! I'm really excited about giving her a face-up, but I think that it's going to be my first venture into trying the sometimes dreaded Testor's dullcoat. The only sealant I have at home is MSC, and I don't live anywhere near a Games Workshop (to get Purity Seal) anymore. Anyway -- her color is just perfect, so I don't want the sealant to obscure it, hopefully a careful hand with Testors will yield good results. :sweat

    11. Ohhhh, the 62 Mika with dark chocolate resin has been on my wish list for close to a year. She is lovely. Have you done a face-up on dark resin before? I've done some practice runs on a MH, but vinyl and resin are pretty different. Let us all know how it goes and congrats!

    12. @Vetinari : Oh.... I can't wait to see what you do with her. She is a floppy body but her aesthetics are gorgeous. *__*

@AlisonVonderland : Congrats!!!!!! Blank as she is, Mika is stunning!!! I stopped using Testors many years ago so can't compare with new batches, but the biggest thing I always noticed was how yellow the faceup got over time. If you're using it just for practices I would say go for it, but if you know exactly how your faceup is gonna turn out and don't want to potentially have to re-do it within a short period of time, I'd push for a longer lasting sealant... In the meantime, I shall go back to ogling your girl! *_*

    13. @jhiggi I've only painted two dolls in dark resin before, but I think they both turned out very well. Impldoll Delia (I used MSC gloss because her resin was so shiny, so the face would match the body) and Iplehouse Ashanti (I used Citadel Purity Seal). Hopefully I'll figure out what I'm going to use for Mika and be able to show her to you guys soon!

@TasiaChiba Arg, I know, I've read everything on this forum about Testors and I'm just so torn on what to do. :...( On the one hand it seems most people don't like it, because of the gross things it can do (if you apply too much or in the wrong conditions?) but on the other hand a very few people say it works great for them and doesn't ghost on a dark resin. It's kind of the same for MSC, most people say it will always ghost on dark resin, but then a few people say it doesn't if you use it correctly (and in the right weather). Maybe I should just try the MSC I have and see if I can make it work. . . I definitely don't like the idea of a "temporary" face-up because I prefer to just do the best job I can and then leave it on for as long as possible. Well whatever I figure out I'll post her here when she's acceptable!

    14. I'd say go with the MSC and see how it turns out. You should know fairly quickly if it's gonna turn bad. I've used it on my Iple Realskin and it came out perfect and I plan on using it to seal my dark choco Iris. I also live in an area with high humidity and it's been raining a lot this year and my MSC still didn't ghost too bad for either normal skins or my IH realskin. (Though... the rain has caused my faceups to take months to finish... looking for a non-rainy day to spray when I'm not working... eeek!!!!) I try not to do faceups in the extreme cold, though, so not much experience with that... But as for faceups going bad due to humidity and cold I've not experienced that. Testors, though, I've used in both extremes and they came out pretty much the same. Testors on the whole has a tackier, thicker coat with less tooth than MSC that yellows much much faster. If the MSC does ghost over for you, you can always wipe it and fall back on Testors! ^_~

    15. @AlisonVonderland aw, she's so cute! If you can stand to wait a couple of weeks, maybe order some Zoukeimura from Volks USA. Much better on dark resin than MSC. :)

    16. @TasiaChiba I'm feeling I should take your advice on this and just try the MSC. . . my problem is that first of all I have the hardest time making these decisions when not medicated properly, which I'm not right now (here's hoping something good happens at the doctor tomorrow), and secondly that I just hate cleaning heads -- at I can imagine myself cleaning the head angrily if things don't go well (either way). I really wish I still lived within reasonable distance of a Games Workshop to get some Purity Seal without paying shipping. . .
@Alewife Well thank you! :hug:I've heard that ZM is good but haven't ever used it on dark resin myself. Of course it's an option I've been considering. I think that's my problem, too many choices! Also complicated by the fact that my dear friend needs me to paint a tan head for him as well, so I really need to pick the right product. Darn this crazy hobby!
Okay, I've driven us striaght off theMiroDoll topic, so I better hush now. Thanks for your input guys. I'll let you know what happens. :XD:

    17. Yes, let us know! I'm terrible at making decisions too (card-carrying Libra), so I sympathize. ;)

    18. Good news! I was able to do Mika's face-up without ghosting from the MSC! (Thin layers, few layers, and drying in the toaster oven.) Pretty glad you guys convinced me to try that after all! I had no plan for her (like always) so I thought I'd just do something off the wall. I'm very happy with how she came out. :kitty2

    19. Wow, she is awesome! Great job!

    20. She looks wonderful! Sometimes the off the wall ones are the best. :)

    21. @AlisonVonderland Wow! She came out beautifully! Fantastic job! Did you do her body too?

    22. @Dark Angel Thank you! I am notoriously lazy and never do any work on my doll's bodies -- so I haven't yet and I'm not sure if I will do anything for her or not. Obviously it would be better if I did, but I can imagine my frustration with the paint chipping slowly. I did however let her borrow some normal skin hands to wear for giggles, because they were much prettier. Man, I really wish MiroDoll would if nothing else just re-sculpt the hands on their bodies. That's been a primary deterrent for me getting more of their bodies or dolls over time. A doll's hands have so much impact. I was really amazed to see with Mika that she is almost exactly the same color as my older ebony color Iplehouse Ashanti, and that Ashanti's EID hands fit, look, and work perfectly on the MiroDoll body.

    23. Yeah, their hands are not the prettiest. I like them on my 60cm male body but all the bigger bodies have awful hands. Even the 61cm male body has bad hands!
