[Adopted] Mirodoll Discussion - Part IV !

Oct 22, 2014

    1. Hello All! Happy new year! wow you miss a few days you miss a lot lol!
Super happy to see all the new dolls and I cant Wait to see your dark tan Iris @chalyss EVERYONE NEEDS ONE! lol!

I've been so busy with orders I hadn't spent any time with Astra well we fixed that today!

    2. OMJ, I LOOOOOOVE that color of Astra! In fact, I will start calling it Astra Brown because no way is it typical Dk Chocolate. More like a mocha..? soooooo pretty! I will ask Miro to try and make my Iris in a similar color. :love She may even get homage purple streaks in her hair. *plots and schemes*

Evie the Kid, thank you!! There are about a dozen names, most still on the site, that stick out to me as true inspirations and 'guides' to my own style over the years... yours is one of them. I still have the ancient emails you sent me about the body you made for your tan Roderich, which obviously left a huge (and good!) impression on me! I am always blown away by the beauty, care, detail and realism of your dolls, plus your enormous talent. You can never leave DOA! ...Unless I do first. Then maybe it'd be OK. But I have no plans of going anywhere, so you must stay! <3 I am possessive of my muses. ;)

    3. lol! @chalyss Astra brown...I like the sound of that! I cant wait to see her!

    4. Does anyone have the 70cm girls with high heel feet? I was wondering what fits them because I was mulling using those feet on a boy doll since they're larger, but then it's like... how many people sell high heel shoes in that size?

    5. It's crazy hard to find any kind of feminine shoe for 70cm size. My girl doesn't have high heel feet because I've never even seen a high heel shoe for her size...in fact she's still shoeless because of this issue. It makes me sad.

    6. Aw bummer! :(

I guess I will have to go with slightly smaller feet.

    7. PlumBlossomsCloset, that's one cool photo of Astra! She looks kind of pouty here โ€ฆ

chalyss, thanks a lot! I am really happy that my creations inspired you - my dolls are so much fun to play with and to work on, I never get tired of doing stuff with them. No worries, I won't leave DoA for a long while. To me it seems that only by sticking with the hobby for a long time we can uncover its true potential.^^

    8. Your Seven looks fabulous, Glyndon! Cool face-up and style!!! My Seven is very different with his much bigger Soom old SG body.

Thanks on my blog, Chalyss!! You're so right, one just has to take that plunge with the stringing and works, and it becomes second nature very soon. Miros definitely benefit from some tweaking and they can taken to a whole new level with very simple little tricks. :) I'm hoping to get to work on one of the newb tomorrow, but the weather will dictate that. All last week it was -30 degrees Celsius, so no way could I spray anything outdoors...

Thanks Evie on my load! Yep, the big guys are BIG GUYS! Hehe! I can't wait to see what will become of them.

I just loveLOVElove your Astra, PlumBlosson'sCloset!! :) I was already ooohing and aaahing at her on Flickr and here I go again. ;)

I ventured outdoors today with Annie and took some pics of her in the frozen garden:

    9. Aww thanks! I ooooh and ahh at all your lovelies @Blankqueen not only are the dolls gorgeous but the photography is always top notch!

Thanks @evie the kid she does look quite pouty there.

I'll share another of my Astra, She was all dressed up in her evening gown.

    10. They are so lovely @Avnia great job on their clothes!

    11. Do you know that is the first pic of a Mika where she actually looks good to me? I'm just not very fond of the Mika sculpt. I can appreciate the effort that went into making her but she just doesn't appeal to me at all and normally I like AA dolls. For that matter I can't stand Winnie either. The Miro dolls that I have, I love, but the other sculpts? Not so much. But your Mika that era totally suits her and absolutely brings out the best in her looks-wise. She actually looks pretty to me and I honestly never thought I'd ever say that about a Miro Mika. It's amazing what the right face up and the right clothes can do for a doll, eh? This is one time when I admit it, I was dead wrong about not liking this particular sculpt. I had no idea that Mika could look that good... :P

    12. That is one Gorgeous evening gown on your Astra, PlumBlossomsCloset!! :) She's such an elegant lady. The gown really flatters her body! Thanks on my Annie as well!

Lovely 40's outfits, Avnia!! I like the subtle colours you've chosen for the garments. So cool to see Mika and Wind together as well.

No way, Magkelly!!! And those two, Mika and Winnie, are my Biggest Faves! Hehe! Beauty is, as always, in the eye of the beholder. While I like the classic pretty faces too, I tend to prefer something a bit quirky in dolls, so that's probably why Miro girls work for me so well. I just like variation in all its forms. I love Winnie for being so whimsical and unique with her smiling eyes. And Mika is a fantastically exotic beauty for me, very inspiring!! I just did the face-up yesterday on Mika and she's already a favourite!! Can't wait to start photographing her. :)

    13. When it comes to Miro dolls Iris and her twin, Wind, and Annie are hands down my favorites. But I must admit Mika is looking pretty decent to me now and even the pics of Winnie I've seen in this thread are pretty cute. That's the thing about Miro dolls though. Sometimes not faced up it's hard to see the potential. Once you do though it's like a light bulb goes on. Honestly, except for Wind and Annie I was not nearly as impressed with Miro's dolls until I saw a lot of them faced up on here. Now I own several Miro dolls besides my original Annie and Wind and it's definitely because I saw them in here. These pics they definitely sold me on the twins and on getting a Rain, and they totally turned my initial dislike of Lili and Lele around too. You all have definitely enabled me, laugh. I still don't think I want a Mika or a Winnie of my own, but I am actually admiring the ones I am seeing now in here...

    14. Oh my bodys came. They are really strung looose but I know why ^^
They dont use S hooks so the have to do the feet and hand first and then make the knot.
I strung them much tighter. Now I'm tired and my hands shake from the force restringing a SD doll needed ^^
One body is headless, the other one got a modded Soom Gema with spectacular faceup. She is older I think and yellow but with clothes and wigs she looks nice.
Have to wait very long for my Mystic kids Heads

    15. Thanks so much, Mangotree, for your sweet words! I'm so happy you were pleased with Apollo's new look/photos. ;) I hope hobbyists will like him as well.

Congrats on your body arrival, Steffi! Glad you got it restrung. I hope you'll soon have a head to go with it.

    16. OH YAY YAY YAY!!!!! I am so excited you'll be making smaller heads! I would love to have this guy in a smaller size! YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you Miro! He is sooooooooooooo handsome in Marika's pics! She just performs miracles! (I should have her take pics of ME, I might look good! heeeee!) Oh, Miro. please fix his interior eye wells! At his current size it's impossible to get eyes in that fit right. Marika IS a miracle worker!

@glyndon, your boy looks AWESOME!! I LOVE that mod! Oooooh, could Miro make a cast of the chest and then offer it as a possible hybrid piece? That'd be insanely cool! So many want a leaner boy chest or a flat girl or 'angel' chest and your mod is so beautiful!

@PlumBlossomsCloset, your Astra is sooo elegant in that amazing black dress! *makes plans to kidnap Astra*

@evie the kid, I completely agree! I am just now scratching the surface of possibilities in this hobby, so I am determined to make the next 10 years amazing and fearless!

    17. Great new photos, everyone. I love seeing how the Mirodolls are evolving with your creative input.

The new 72 cm boy is amazing! Very handsome guy with more realistic features.

I'm absolutely in for a flat chest option!
(I got into BJDs because they looked androgynous, and it disappoints me that most companies developed their bodies into overly masculine or feminine stereotypes.)

      @chalyss Fearless! Yesssss!!!

    18. The new pictures of Mika are absolutely gorgeous. I dithered over Mika but heard a lot of back and forth about the resin, so I'm currently waiting on Annie, but... there might need to be a dark brown Mika in my future.

    19. @chalyss Thanks for the flattery. Honestly, though, if Miro asked me to mod some option parts for them to cast, I would absolutely do it.

    20. @glyndon, yes?? *bounces!!* Okay, I'll talk to Miro about it and see what they say! *squeee!*

    21. Exciting new developments here! ;) I'm really looking forward to the smaller heads of Apollo and Hector as well and I agree with your Chalyss on the eye sockets. They would need to be deeper and rounder in shape imo too. With loads of eye putty I did manage to rig up some eyes for Apollo, but it was a bit unduly challenging. Oh, a flat chest body like Glyndon's sure would be interesting indeed.

I've not had a moment to spend with dolls lately, been too busy just working, sneezing, coughing and sleeping. I really hope this flu takes a hike soon, so I could do Hector's face-up or take some more pics. :)

Ohhh, I hope you will get yourself a Mika, IndigoAndAsh!! I'm just crazy about mine. Here a couple more pics of her. This was actually my own fave set of pics of the ones I took so far for Miro, but they've not used these yet, I don't think. I love her with these dark eyes and hair!! I can't wait to try tons more looks for her though. I've never had a doll with this dark skin before and all my old familiar clothing items just look so different and "new" on her. Colours look more radiant on her and she just puts a fun spin on them!

    22. Those photos are fantastic - they really suit her colouring, and she looks so at home there. I've been looking for a doll with features like that for a while. I dithered about ordering her when I ordered Annie, but decided to just get one first.

(Of course, Annie is 70cm, which means Mika is in a whole other size range, and might need a friend... *eyes Wind*)

    23. Hi! I'm considering getting the 65 or 68cm male body eventually. I've heard they need to be restrung and sueded, usually. What experience do people have with those bodies?

Also, does Miro Doll have any sort of resin matching service like Resinsoul does? It's for a hybrid.

    24. Hehe! Oh yes IndigoAndAsh, Wind would make wonderful friend for Mika!! I intend to do a Mika/Wind photo shoot myself as soon as I get over this sneezing business. However, if you like the 70cm height, Mika looks STUNNING with the 70cm body too. There was one on sale here at the market Place, now sold though: HERE. I would so not mind another Mika in that exact light tan and the 70cm body. She would be SO gorgeous, but can't afford any dolls right now (saving up for a trip to London)...

Psiiconic, I have the 60cm and 68cm boy bodies. I've sueded and re-strung both with a 4,5mm string and they pose like troopers now. Never had too many problems even without sueding, but they're definitely improved yet with it. I don't have the 65cm one, but I presume it's pretty similar. I totally recommend! For the price point, they're really good bodies. Miro does resin matching, but it might not necessarily come out 100% accurate of course. Which head would you need a body for?

    25. It's a Doll Family H 70cm size 'practice head' in their yellow skin. He's being modded slightly and hasn't got a faceup yet, and the Miro doll bodies are the ones I've found with a sculpt that I like, a proper sized neck, and a price point I can handle lol. I'd love the 68cm but the 65cm would likely do the job just as well.

    26. Is it the one in your avatar pic? If it is, then I have that head too - Yehua. It works just fine on the Miro neck. Miro has yellow resin option too, but I have no idea if it's a good match for the DF-h yellow or not. I only have DF-H pink and Miro normal. My Yehua uses a Soom Super Gem old type body, which is 65cm (HERE's how he looks with it), so I should imagine either one of the Miro options, 65 or 68 could work for your boy. My friend used to have a Yehua and he was on a Mirodoll body too: HERE. I think that was the 68cm body.

    27. It is that one! I had no idea his sculpt had a name! That looks like basically exactly what I want and I think even if the doll isn't identical in color it can likely be blushed to match-though my boy will likely have heavy robes 90% of the time.

    28. My Annie has arrived! The head was a bugger to get on and I don't think it's quite right, but that's OK because she needs a serious restringing anyway. (Which I've never done before - I think this is going to involve a lot of sitting down with YouTube.)

Right now she's bald and wearing a scarf-toga dress, sitting on the sofa while I go "My god she's huge. My _god_ she's huge!" I am very pleased.

    29. So happy to hear you like your new girl. Hope you two bond well!

    30. I already love her - I don't have a name yet, but will get there soon. I'm still going "My god she's HUGE" - the last one I had sat beside me was a slim MSD so you can imagine the size difference. Now I'm just planning all the things I'm going to make for her. Starting with a crochet bag big enough to hold a PukiPuki.

    31. Hi everyone! I've been lurking here for a few weeks now, but I didn't feel comfortable posting until my doll arrived. Anyway, my Rain arrived yesterday, so I just have to share some pics of him:

[IMG]Dax1 by Amy Miller, on Flickr

[IMG]Dax2 by Amy Miller, on Flickr

[IMG]Dax3 by Amy Miller, on Flickr

I'm calling him Dax for now. We'll see if that sticks. I think he's SO cute!

I just wanted to thank Blankqueen for answering all of my n00b questions when I was considering ordering Rain. I really appreciate the help. <3

    32. I can totally relate to your struggle with Annie's head! I had the hardest time getting Rain's head on. Finally I just pulled really hard, and the S hook popped in.

    33. Thank you so much!

    34. Ohhh my gosh, Amy!!! Huge congrats on your Rain/Dax's arrival!! I'm so thrilled to see him here looking so fine. Love his black outfit - my Rain would just want to steal that. I really like his whole look. I've been sooo looking forward to seeing your boy and I'm so glad you joined us here. I hope you post loads and loads of pics of him for us!!!

IndigoAndAsh, congrats on your Annie's arrival!! Hehehe, I totally sympathize with the "My God, she's huge" feelings. That was my initial reaction to my Iris as well and took me a while before I felt comfortable handling a girl that big. I had even had 72cm boys before, so it's not like the scale itself was such novelty for me, but a 70cm girl is Impressive!! ;) I'm so glad you're pleased with her. I hope you'll share with us how she develops!!

It's a miserable weather out there, sleeting and nasty, so I wanted a bit of a change of scene with my Mika. Here she is enjoying the summery beach:

    35. @Blankqueen Darn you and your enabling ways *shakes fist* I'm thinking I might order a Mika at Easter, if all goes well. She looks good in all the pictures I've seen, and she is what I'm looking for.

I've got a wig ordered for "Annie" from eBay - She needs a name, she'll probably tell me once she has hair on.

    36. Thanks so much, Marika! :D I will be sure to post many more pics of him. :) And I think your Rain would look great in Dax's black outfit! I think it would look great with his skin tone. If you lived closer I totally would have let you borrow it, lol.

I'm loving your summery pics of Mika! They're really cheering me up after driving home from work in such miserable weather. Her arm warmers are super cute!

    37. Heheh! Thanks IndigoAndAsh!! ;) I much much recommend Mika, she's truly a gem and every unique!! I just love mine to bits. Woohoo, Easter Mika!! :D Is your Annie going to be blond or brunette, or something entirely different?

Dax is soo lovely, Amy! Might I ask where you got his outfit from? I genuinely covet it from you for my boy. Hehe! Thanks on my Mika pics! I really needed a "change of scenery". It's always fun taking an imaginary trip with the dolls at least. A little escape from the reality.

    38. Marika, I got Dax's outfit from Switch.
      + SWITCH +
The plaid and black shirts came together, but I bought the pants separately.
      + SWITCH +
Although Switch restocks their Humming Dollies once a month, they only restock their clothing once in a blue moon. I'm guessing the next time they will restock their clothing will be on their anniversary in May. I could be wrong though! If you sign up for their mailing list they will email you when they are releasing something. Or, since I am already on their mailing list, I can just let you know. :)

I really hope you are able to get the outfit someday. It really does fit the Mirodoll 68cm body quite well. The pants are a perfect length, and so is the plaid shirt. The black shirt is on the long side, but the pants were slightly tight in the crotch area, so I like that it covers that up, lol.

    39. I finally gave up on buying Enfys pants. Most of my boys, even the other Miro ones I can find pants that fit, albeit some are a bit tight in the crotch, but Enfys is just impossible. I'm definitely making him his own pants. There is no way around it. The only outfits I've seen thus far that might fit that boy, his backstory, his height, and his uh "endowments" are way too expensive for my clothing budget. He's proven to be a bit of a challenge this doll. I am getting him a GF but I doubt that I'll be buying any more 70cm dolls after this pair. They are just way too hard to outfit I think...

    40. Mika is making me want to head off for Jamaica or the Bahamas or something. Considering I live in the South of the USA it's been downright COLD and I have no heat in my new house as yet. I've been waiting on getting my ducts cleaned for a month and more now. Too many people scheduled because of the cold snap here. I can't get an appt till March. I figure by then I probably won't care all that much. :P I'm huddling in my fuzzy robes, even wearing them over my clothes. Hiding under my electric blanket and throw half the time. It's been in the low 40's though at night and only in the 50's and 60's during the day. I know that's not nearly as bad as some places but for here it's CHILLY, and it's had me thinking about heading off to someplace warmer for the past month or more. I don't even like the beach when it's warm and I've been dreaming about sun and fun, just sitting on a beach with a drink in my hand that has a little umbrella in it...

    41. Here are a few more pics of Dax that I took today:

[IMG]Dax4 by Amy Miller, on Flickr

[IMG]Dax5 by Amy Miller, on Flickr

I'm gonna try not to spam too many pics, I promise. Lol. He's just so fun to photograph!

      • x 3
    42. Thanks for the info on the clothes Amy!! Too bad they're sold out, but maybe they will indeed restock yet. ;) And you can never spam too much your beautiful boy!! Go and blast away with your camera! I was already admiring these new pics on Flickr a moment ago, but I'll just ooh and aahh some more yet. Sooooo cute!

Sorry to hear the weather has not been pleasant where you're at Magkelly! I hope you find your sunshine and warmth somewhere! It'll be turning freezing here up north next weekend again according to the forecast, but I'll welcome the winter back. I much prefer snowy and cold to wet and muddy. I hope you Enfys gets a fine new pair of pants. Selfmade ones are always more special anyway!

    43. Double posting to spam a wonderfully blurry pic of Winnie and Mika. I had so much fun styling them last weekend that I decided to do a little photo story. I was so excited taking the pics that I didn't notice I had completely wrong settings in my camera and once I uploaded, I realized they were all inaccurate and just all around bad.:horror: *sigh:sigh So, sorry about the quality, but oh well, I had fun anyway and you can still see what's going on... The college girls just strut about and don't even notice poor freshman there (XMdoll William) who would've loved to make their acquaintance. :D

    44. @amye.miller Your Dax is a handsome boy! He looks so innnocent and cute.

@Blankqueen You always make the dolls look so fabulous. Your collection of stylish outfits seems to be inexhaustible โ€ฆ Mika and Annie make such a great contrast.

Weather has been quite nasty here for ages, my Thunder is still waiting for an outside shooting โ€ฆ

    45. @amye.miller Dax looks brilliant!

@Blankqueen Again with the evil tempting! My Mika plans have been put on hold though, I was lured over to the dark side (Iplehouse) so my saving up needs to start over. Maybe after my birthday in Summer.

    46. @evie the kid and @IndigoAndAsh Thank you both so much!! <3

Marika, I just saw the photo story on Flickr and I loved it! The outfits, props and poses were all perfect! I hope the girls take notice of William someday... ;)

    47. I found some accessories for Dax, so I decided to take some more pictures.

Here's Dax with his new necklace...

    48. Thanks very much, Evie, on my girls! My SDs do have a good amount of clothes, it's my small dolls that suffer in silence in their old rags.

IndigoAndAsh, too bad you had to put your Mika plan in ice for the moment. I hope she still makes it to you eventually! I'd love to see more people work their magic with her. But I totally understand, dolly plans have a way of changing at a moment's notice. I've sometimes been ready pop one doll in the cart only to find another at the last minute and voila, plans have changed. (What are you getting from Iple? Inquiring minds want to know... )
You sure you don't want this one? :wiggle
      [IMG]

Ah, great to see your Dax here with his new goodies, Amy! Hehe, farmer Dax! Too cute! His hair is so smooth too. My dolls' wigs would need to get combed nice and sorted out. They're in a shameful state...

    49. I will be getting her at some point! I just need to go back to scratch for saving up. But Mika will be mine!

    50. I'm glad you like Dax's wig, Marika. Your dolls all have great hair too! The wig Mika is wearing in the latest pic you posted is beautiful! The colour is gorgeous on her and I love the curls. <3

    51. Goodie good!!!! :dance She will make a fabulous summer/birthday girl for you. I'm just eager to see people's Mikas (particularly in this dk brown resin) now that I have one of my own and I'm still searching to find which styles and colours work with her the best. :)

Aww, you're too kind, Amy! I have a lot of pretty wigs for my dolls, but I really am terrible at taking care of them. I will postpone using a comb on them to the last possible moment. I will just haphazardly smooth them and tuck the unruly curls under hats:doh when taking photos. I've never even attempted using any products on them to make them less tangled, because I haven't been sure as to what would be safe to use and wouldn't stain the doll or damage the resin then.

    52. Haha, Marika, I know what you mean. I have yet to comb Dax's hair as well. So far I've also just been smoothing it down. I think I just got lucky in that my Switch wig was in good shape when it arrived. I was going to crochet Dax a hat earlier this week, but then I thought, 'Nah, it'll just just mess up his hair.' XD

    53. Here's a quick photo I took of Dax in honour of Pokemon's 20th anniversary this week:

[IMG]Dax9 by Amy Miller, on Flickr

He's sporting his new sweater and spending some time with his new Pokemon friend. ;)

    54. I finally made my way over to this thread and I am so relieved that I'm not the only one who had problems fitting my guy's uh ... endowments... into his pants. :eusa_sile I made him some boxers when he arrived and it kept popping out!!

Also, oh no more pictures of chocolate resin Mika!! She's too pretty. She's definitely my next doll (maybe with tax money? :kitty2 )

    55. Daxxxxx!!! He's looking soooo cute with his new sweater and his Pokemon (I had no idea Pokemon had an anniversary). :) More, Amy - I wanna see more of Dax!!! ;)

Welcome, anxiousArtisan!! Hehe! Yes, the "package" can be a bit difficult to fit into pants. I've got some 70cm boys pants that work pretty ok for mine, but sure enough, the boy is welllll endowed to say the least. Woohoo, another Mika joining us perhaps! Fabulous! I hope you can bring her home soon! :D

    56. Hello everyone! I was wondering if anyone has any pictures of mirodolls in the tan colours? Thank you :)

    57. Hello everyone!!! I've missed you and your lovelies all! I've been gone for too long! These guys were super upset with me for not having time for them...Keiko is over it I think but Moon and especially Astra aren't so easy to get to forgive and forget

    58. I guess I can jump into here now, since I got my first Miro order on layaway. :)
I ordered two bodies for my floating heads (68cm boy for my Akagidoll Lan and 62cm girl for my Domuya Saisha).

Also, @Blankqueen's Mika made me so desperately fall in love with that sculpt that I ordered my own Mika. Had a different doll from another company in mind first for my character, but this sculpt is even better and prettier. Hopefully the skin color will be as nice looking, since that color seems to change with the different batches.
