[Adopted] Maskcat 57cm Dolls

I didn't know what the 14 yrs body was earlier, but now after seeing pictures of it in one of the marketplace posts, I am so, so sure it looks exactly like the HD57 body Switch sells! So many small details match exactly to the HD57 I have! I really don't think they changed a single thing about it! Sorry for being off topic. This is so funny to me for some reason. You taught me something new today, lol! That's also really good to know about the SD13 vs Aria/Switch body, thanks!

It is actually beginning to seem that the Maskcat body is what I've been looking for. I initially bought an HD57 body because I prefer younger / less mature style body, aka smaller bust and less prominent waist/hip ratio, and I wanted to buy a new body of that style for the Switch head I ordered so I could have a resin match guarantee, rather than hunt for an older, likely yellowed SD13 body. At the time, I wasn't aware that a Maskcat body would have been a great option! The reason I'm so interested in finding out more about the Maskcat body, in addition to it being the right aesthetic/shape, is because I think it has many more posing advantages than the HD57, namely the two piece thigh, peanut joint in the knee, two piece torso, and honestly I really can't say I'm happy with the wrist joint in the HD57. So I'm thinking about getting Maskcat doll bodies for the two floating Switch heads I have. Not to mention the Maskcat body is also cheaper, heh

 

I also prefer less mature body so I can understand your love for the Maskcat body as well ! The new and the old body are both gorgeous at great price. I also plan to order a Switch head. They are so beautiful. Do you know if you purchase directly at Switch website, if all the monthly heads came blank ?

 

The monthly heads come blank unless you order the faceup at an extra fee, but no matter the monthly head you buy, I think the faceup is the same (pink-toned with slight blue eyeshadow and pink lips, as seen on either the Shiho or Yiho pages). Hello! I own a one off Maskcat Nerine. I was going through the extras she came with recently and noticed that she came with two different types of heeled feet. One is the jointed heeled feet and the other is the non jointed heeled feet/leg much like the Volks SD16 girls. I can't find the non jointed feet anywhere on Maskcats site as I am kinda baffled how to get this part on her. The S hook is in the knee. I would love to try this part on her but can't figure out a good way to get it on. Does anyone else have this piece for their girls? And if so how did you get it strung properly? Thanks!

 

I wish I could help with that one. Maskcat stopped making the heel leg part.

 

The heeled lower leg came with the old body. You will need to restring her with a shorter elastic loop that will just reach the knees.

Goodness, I must say Banyo has done a fine job in getting me to fall in love with Lisette...

I really wish I could get my Vivi so stand a little easier. Her ankles always roll around and her torso joint never wants to stay up. She's gorgeous and I love her, but she can be so hard to work with. I really don't like having to use a doll stand just to get her to stand still.

 

I've had similar problems with almost all of my girls from various companies...High heel shoes seem to make it worse. Standing a BJD without a stand is definitely a matter of careful balancing so that the weight is centered. I was able to get my Lisette to stand out in the yard, in flat shoes, with careful attention to where her feet were placed & adjusting her feet at the angles a few times before letting her go...but stands are a very good thing for most situations unless you have someone on hand to spot the doll while you're taking photos.

I don't have a MaskCat girl yet --- the pics are convincing me that should be changed soon ---- so I don't know the answer but I do know that when I asked questions on the Etsy site, I got responses in a matter of minutes! Never had that happen before from any other company.

In response to face-up requests, when I purchased my Ronia, Banyo was super helpful and worked with me to change her face-up to lighter colours compared to what her standard face-up came with. So she might still do this now!

 

Your dolls are gorgeous ! I'm in love with the tan Lisette. Her outfits are beautiful on her (even if it doesn't fit her at al haha).

Hey everyone, I have Evelyn on her way. I'm very excited. I wondered about eye size. Does anyone have a photo with her in 16mm (that's the standard?) And 14mm? Or 12?

I don't know if all the Maskcatdoll have the same eyes shape, but I know that I have tried 14mm eyes on my Ronia and it's doesn't really fit well.

 

Anyone here have makscat dolls with more realistic faceups/next to less stylized dolls? I really like how they look, but am not sure how they'd fit in with a more realistic collection.

 

After many months of procrastinating and questioning on Etsy (they're very patient with their replies!) I have finally jumped and bought one of the limited Nerines in pink skin She'll be around a month to produce (how refreshing is that, compared to Lati's one year current waiting time!). I have two other SDs here, Laycee by Kaye Wiggs, who I love, and a Volks Coco who I've struggled to bond with. Nerine has a more 'quirky' face similar to my Laycee so I'm hopeful I'll love her.

 

What do you call a less stylized doll? Do elfdoll and Supia count?
I only have my Lisette next to a Dollclan Vezeto right now but I may take other pictures if it may help you.

I will confess that I bought the head because it had a face-up by an artist I just so admire........I hadn't really heard of Maskcat before *blush*
But after buying, I dashed here to find out more!!!

I am working backwards through the thread.....I thought it would be best if I started with the most recent information.

I am just so excited to be buying resin again. I haven't had a new (to me) BJD join my collection for simply ages! I am amazed at how she spoke to me.....and now after looking at the Maskcat site I can see that others speak to me too.

She was posted today so it won't be too long a wait I hope.

And I am not sure what body she will eventually have, but before I order a Maskcat one I was wondering if an older CH one might work for her.
Has anyone every tried that combination for a hybrid?

I am so excited for you about your girl too. She looks fabulous and I am sure you will love her straight away.

And at the moment I have no plans at all for my new girl............beyond finding a body for her! LOL!
But I might just use the storyline that I have for my Unoa girls as I think she will be some kind of 'forest girl' and my Unoa girls have decided that they don't need a detailed storyline, they are happy just being pretty dolls.

 

I think sometimes it's nice to have no plans, and see who develops as you play?

Hi Jane!! Nerine has been on my wish list for a couple of years. In fact I just broke down last week & ordered one of the fullset Nerine's Banyo is offering for the summer special. When I saw the faceup, the dress & the wig resistance was futile. ;D
I almost got Nerine last year except Banyo posted Lisette for the first time & her fullset was too perfect to passup. Needless to say, I love Banyo's styling for the dolls as well as her sculpting. X0
My Lisette is NSyellow. She works well with my mellowed Delf clan. And I bought another NSyellow body for the Aoi Tuki head that found me last year. It is a lovely match for her. I'd try to get some photos for you with my CH girls but it sounds like your head may get to you sooner than I'll get the photos taken. Can't wait to see how she fits into your doll family.

The head I have bought is in the NS yellow so *fingers crossed* about a half decent resin match now.


I can't believe that I didn't know anything of Maskcat until last week......but funnily enough I have found that I have favourited quite a few Maskcat dolls from Flickr over the years.
So I obviously liked them without wondering who made them!

And congratulations to you too on ordering the fullset Nerine.....what fun! She looks fabulous and I love that dress too.

I bought her because of this face-up by Renee (Cedar*heart) but I just love her quirky face sculpt and her beautiful nose!

I do have her on the CH body here and the neck movement is good BUT my 2005 WS CH body has yellowed so much that it is a quite revolting colour! It doesn't look quite so bad in photos but believe me......in real life it is revolting! *yuk*
So I am going to place an order for a version II Maskcat body asap.


But when I was reading this thread last week there was some talk about the Maskcat body not being able to sit well........is that true with the version II body? My dolls tends to be displayed sitting down a lot so I need to know in advance if the body needs to be modified on entry to the house please.
I have to hot glue suede and wire my DT dolls so I don't mind working round 'body quirks'

I am just so excited about getting this girl whole..........my first BJD in over 2 years and I have been actively collecting and playing in this hobby since 2004!

She is beautiful Jane! I wasn't familiar with this artist and am glad to see her work. It suits Nerine perfectly! The only quirk I remember from Maskcat body was the ankles tended to turn in and had to be straightened before she stood, but was rock solid after that adjustment.

Edit to add: found a sitting picture. She lives with Melly now.

Thank you! I am thrilled with her, her face-up is wonderful. And I haven't tried many wigs on her yet so I don't know but I really do like this one. I will be able to tell when I get her body.

I don't remember having trouble posing Lisette...but then I may simply have been too in love to care!
