I still love my girl to bits. She deserves a whole lot of new clothes, but looks lovely in what we already have

 

thanks for the tip! just one question, for your yumi, isn't the eye socket bigger than the eye? All the 12 mm eyes I've been looking so far have this problem...

Makoto.Mania Noah is really pretty! Congratulations I also plan on trying 12mm eyes in Ivy ASAP.

Everyone has such unique and pretty girls! It kind of makes me sad that they will no longer be available through Elfdoll, but I am also excited to see what kind of new dolls they will have to share.

I shot a photo of Ivy this morning! I've kind of been...struggling...with this hobby. I have this habit of trying to make my writing and my dolls codependent on each other and I just am realizing that it doesn't work. I've gone through a period in which I put Ivy away for over a month trying to decide if I wanted a different doll, or just to quit dolls all together. But this morning I took her out and I realized how special she is to me, more so than other dolls I've had in the past. So, I'm keeping her

I struggle the same with this hobby... My other doll is so wonderful, but I cannot seem to write about her. In my head she's such a lively character but on paper she just doesn't work.
I haven't done anything with my dolls for over a year and with Leliel's new face-ups (including painting her smiling faceplate, which arrived at my house 1,5 years ago, never painted it before ^^' ) I'm trying to kickstart this wonderful hobby again. I really need a creative outlet and bjd's are so versatile en wonderful.
I'm going to take my other doll outside tomorrow and make some pictures in the woods. (she's a faun, she needs to be in the woods).

I kind of have this issue where I get so involved in trying to make my doll perfectly represent the character in my story, or I try to create an ENTIRE story for just one doll...it becomes exhausting! So I'm just separating this hobby from my writing. I have Ivy, she has a background and a personality, but I'm leaving it at that. Meanwhile, I'm working on my novel that doesn't have anything to do with Ivy the character.

so.....does anyone know what elfdoll plans for 2014? I was hoping that since they seem to be changing everything, they might release another special skin color dami/yumi....like the real skin one from 2011 (not sure if it was that year or not)

From what I gather, all the dolls/parts on sale on Elfdoll's website right now are from cancelled orders, so they are most likely dolls/parts that are already made and put together, but the person who ordered them cancelled, so Elfdoll was left with extra dolls/parts. So yes, I'm pretty sure that everything listed as on sale on Elfdoll's website right now is in stock and will be shipped to you immediately

I was thinking of getting some very light eyes for Ivy, for a different sort of look. Maybe ice blue...I saw a pair on Safrindoll that I liked a lot but I'm not sure if she would still look as sweet with light eyes. I know I definitely want to try a lighter wig on her as well...hmm, looks like some experimenting is in order! My wallet is already crying...

 

dew_drops, your girl has inspired me to lust after a MNF hybrid of my own! I saw your comparison thread and it's very helpful.

I am however, slightly confused... could anyone tell me the difference between yumi and dami? is there any? I don't even see "dami" on their site, but for some reason I had it in my head that it was the name of the sculpt.
also, this smiling faceplate isn't on their site either!! I'd like my girl to be able to smile. perhaps it's a mod?

Dew_Drops, Ivy is just perfect as she is! I also think she won't be so sweet with lighter eyes, but I'm sure she'll look beautiful anyway!

 

Hi! I've been doing some research and I think a Chicline body may be more suitable for Elfdoll heads, but it's totally up to you!

At the moment, Elfdoll is only selling what they have in stock from cancelled orders. After that, all the dolls they previously sold will no longer be available. I believe Yumi and Dami may have different skin tones, for example, Ivy is not actually a Yumi, she is a Dami Half-open eye head. If I'm remembering right, Yumi has a lighter skin tone than Dami. As for the smiling faceplate, it used to be available on Elfdoll's website, but they are most likely sold out.

Yes, I've heard Dami and Yumi have different skin tones. A nice girl in the forum bought a full Dami and a Yumi faceplate and she noticed skin color was different.
So, Dew_Drops, maybe Ivy looks sweeter because she's a Dami and not a Yumi?

 

I always thought Dami was the open-eyed version, and Yumi the half-open eyed. That's what I've been calling mine any ways

I have twin Twiggys, they both have the same skintone.

 

Just to pop by, but yes I think Dew Drops is right. The two dolls have different skin tones and also different make-up. Yumi has a fiercer look. It is confusing though! I think people use Yumi to refer to the half-open eyed face for both doll as it's easier than saying Dami half-opened eyed all the time!

All these photos of the half-open eye girls make me regret selling my Dami.

Ekk I've just ordered Yumi. It was totally not something I had been planning on doing but I couldn't resist that price. I just hope I like the white skin when she arrives.

 

Ah, you got her then -- excellent! And congratulations! I was tempted but I just got a couple Yumi faceplates which should tide me over for a bit. Elfdoll even threw in a sleeping plate as a freebie. Now I really need to find a body with three floating heads staring at me...

The Snow White isn't a stark paper white but more like a very light NS. Next to my Fairyland NS dolls, there isn't a great deal of difference -- FL is a bit more pink and slightly darker. For me, since color matching is less important than posing, I'll likely look for a NS Minifee body and slightly blush the Yumi heads to match.

 

I think we bought the same doll, if it's this one, but I'm not sure it's white skin. The "title" says "[LOVELY] Standard YUMI - Half-open Eyed", so it's supposed to be normal skin. Then, in the pictures, there must be a kind of mistake, because they say "Lovely Doll -DAMI / Snow skin", but I'm quite sure it's a picture they took from Dami's sale page.
What do you think about this?

I paid for my Yumi 8 days ago and still no reply at all to my messages and, of course, doll hasn't been shipped out. I'm really really disappointed with Elfdoll!

 

I have one Twiggy Yumi, but I always thought that the diference between Yumi and Dami was the colour, Yumi is in white skin and Dami in normal skin. And if you want a Yumi in normal skin, you will buy a body in normal skin and the Dami half-open eyed faceplate (because it is in normal skin).....it's a little bit crazy isn't it??

I had to laugh reading the previous posts. I have had my "half open eyes" sculpt for over three years and I am still confused about the Yumi/Dami naming. I think now I understand the names are related to skin color.

For me, my girl will always be a Yumi, although now I have the "open eye" sculpt as well.

 

I hope so - to be honest I'm not 100% sure on whether my two orders have gone through as I've not had any confirmation yet. I asked them to combine the two orders and only paid for one shipping so I hope that's going to be ok. It's good to hear that the skin isn't too white. My Dami is real skin so I don't have anything to compare to my minifees but I do prefer the of minifees.

Chritinopia, yes that's the one. From the photos on their website and flickr she is paler than Dami. But I have not been able to find the bit about snow skin in there but then my iPad is struggling with all the photos. I don't mind which colour it is as long as it's the half-opened eye version! I'm expecting snow skin though. Congrats on ordering your doll too. I guess we must have got the last two dolls as they are out of stock now. Have you asked them on their Q&A board? I got no reply to my emails but they did reply within a couple of days to my question in the board. I'm not expecting them to ship out for a couple of weeks.

I've just checked my questions on the Q&A board and they have confirmed my orders and are going to send them together which is a relief - although it does mean I will have a much larger box to hide!

I've just checked and they answered on the Q&A board, saying they're going to ship her in about 2 weeks! They're not really fast, considering the dolls are already in stock, but at least I got a reply from them!
So, this doll was really unexpected and now I find out she's in white skin. I feel very excited about her, so many surprises all at once!

I bought some Ersa Flora green eyes for her, but I'm not sure about the wig colour, maybe I'll wait for her to be home to decide

 

Aw, I like the idea of European twins! It's good to know it will be two weeks - compared to three months for Fairyland I think I can wait patiently! I'm glad you mentioned the eyes though as I had forgotten about eyes in my excitement of ordering! Icicle mentioned that the Snow White is like a pale natural skin so hopefully not too pale.

 

Yes, I don't think it's too pale. Now I remember I saw a picture in Flickr from a friend of mine that tried an hybrid of Yumi head on Doll Chateau normal pink and said it's a good match. I have a DC in normal pink and she's really pale but still on the pink side, not on the white side. Hope this helps

*lol*, this is confusing indeed, christinopia! I never got if Yumi and Dami are told apart by their skintones or their faceplates ! My girl is WS, but she wears the open-eyed face-plate, so she´s a bit of both .

 

Yes, Yumi is ws (although I don't know if elfdoll label her as ws).
I think it's the skin colour & make-up that determines which doll you have (unless you have the Twiggy or Real Skin version as I can't recall how they were sold). It has taken me a long time to get my head round the difference between the two mind you!

I was looking at some (many) pictures of Yumi, and noticed that the trend is to make her as a brunette. That was actually my idea, but now I think I'm going to make her blonde! I can't wait to see how she would look like! Two weeks, only two more weeks

 

Blonde is a great idea and there aren't so many blondes. My Dami is a chestnut so I want something that will work with her. I'm thinking either jet black bob (but blk is also common) or a redhead.

I hope everyone who has ordered from Elfdoll in the past few weeks gets their dolls soon! Sounds like Elfdoll is sending out orders slower than we'd hope.

I have been having a struggle with myself over whether or not to part with Ivy but I think that she has a special place in my heart and should stay with me, because every time I get her out for a photoshoot, I feel that she is just too beautiful and close to my heart for me to let go of. So that means I will be sticking to my plan, I will get her a friend sometime this year

I would love to see some Yumi/Dami half-closed eyes with dolls from other companies if possible!

I was hoping for a shipping notice this week but nothing yet. The wait is harder when you know it is so near! I only have a face-up to do on my tiny so I hope that I won't have long to wait! In the meantime I need to try and find a European face-up artist and wig which I've still done nothing about!

Can someone remind me on the eye size for the half-open eyes? Is it 14mm or 12mm?

I'm pretty sure Dew_Drops' Ivy wears 14 mm and she said maybe smaller eyes would fit better. I think the half-open eyes faceplate has quite small eyes so I'm sure 12 mm will work well

I'm not so sure about the wig. I have a brand new blonde wig and I'm going to try it and see if she looks nice. Otherwise I'll go for a red wig, I saw a couple of nice red ones in some shops in Europe, so it won't be a long wait!
Yeah, I decided to name her Gilda She was unexpected too, and at the beginning I wanted to use a Japanese name (I love the name Sumiko!), but then, during a night I couldn't sleep, I figured out Gilda would be perfect for her, ahahah!

Hello everyone! Thank you all for your kind and supportive words. I took Ivy out today for some pictures, which was really nice
Oh, and Ivy wears 15mm eyes from Masterpiece Eyes if I am remembering right. The iris is the same size as a 14mm eye, the white part is just bigger. I would like to try some 13mm Masterpiece Eyes in her, which have the same iris size as a 12mm eye. I was thinking she looks great with darker eyes, so perhaps a dark brown?

sweetpoupee it looks like what they have left in stock is Lovelydoll hands, SOAH smiling faceplate, SOAH reminisce faceplate, SOAH open-eyed faceplate, Yumi open-eyed faceplate (which would be in Elfdoll WS, close match to DC NS-P I believe), and Yumi reminisce faceplate (again, close to DC NS-P if I am correct.)
