[Adopted] Dollstown 17 and 18 year boys and girls

Jan 25, 2011

    1. Thank you Naisha, avrilpeony and earth.spirits :) She definitely sits just fine, she's been wired in the legs which helps a lot of the old issues. Congrats on getting your 17 body, RoyalBarJack, hope you are having fun with it :)

    2. Meant to congratulate you also, RoyalBarJack, on the arrival of your 17 girl body. Your hyrbrid girl looks lovely (as is her outfit).

I haven't noticed any issues with my own 17 girl (recently arrived), her resin seems as thick as my 18 girl, and she poses fine, and there are no joint issues.

My 18 girl has been fitted with a pair of the new knees, and now poses fine too.

The 17 and 18 girl bodies have become my absolute favorites of my crew, and are really spoiling me for other companies, as they pose so well, and have such a slender and natural silhouette. Really loving them.

    3. Im trying to find a good starting point for making clothes for my new girl on her way. If anyone's used a pattern before that worked for this size please let me know. Here's her size info:

      sitting height 32
      length of arms 19.5
      length of hand 5.9
      length of foot 7.9
      width of shoulder 12.5-12.7
      circumference of neck 9-9.1
      circumference of bust 24.5-24.7
      circumference of waist 17.9-18
      circumference of hips 27.1-27.3
      thigh circumference : 15.6-15.8
      calf circumference : 11.1-11.2
length from crotch to sole : 32.8
      foot width : 2.9

She's striking! Did you do her face up?

    4. So very pretty! She just glows and I think your faceup is very sweet <3

      Which color is your Kana?

    5. Thank you Gothiclibrarian, the resin is called "(Honey) Peach Fresh", it's kind of translucent like the french resin but apparently is much more yellowing resistant (fingers crossed!). I have another head in the same resin and it fell off the table, now has a ding on the bridge of the nose which has gone solid white, so I imagine there will be the usual problems if you need to sand or do any kind of remodelling. It's a gorgeous resin though :)

    6. Great info to have, thank you!

I have wanted a 2nd elf body for a loooong time...this new resin makes it more an issue of choosing the color for it. That Peach Fresh is just lovely <3

    7. Yes, I know what you mean, plus even nicer in reality, hard to describe but a real honey tone :)

    8. Have you tried boiling the ding out? And french resin (as well as Dollshe's Honey resin, from everything I've heard) does not have the "usual problems" with sanding, that's why so many companies use it for darker or more vivid colors - you can totally sand it and the marks are minimal at most so long as you don't do a hack job of it (which I rarely have the patience for, tbh, and try to stick to companies that send out seam-free dolls)

    9. Girrl: her seams are really smooth so I don't have an issue there, I was just thinking of people who like to mod, but.... I didn't know that about boiling. I might try it on the head cap of the spare head and if it returns to normal I will try it to help the nose ding.... I've been racking my brains trying to visualise a way of doing a "Subtle" spray of freckles over the bridge of her nose - while knowing that actually it will end up looking like she's been in an accident ;) Thanks for the tip!

    10. Does anyone have an older 'normal' skintone head and a newer 'Honey Skin' resin (I guess either DollsTown or DollShe 'Strawberry Fresh' or 'Peach Fresh'?) body that they could post photos of?

I'm wondering if not just the skintone but that translucency itself would be a cumbersome issue with having a doll I've been putting together for a long time...

      Cheers!

    11. Gothic librarian, I might be able to help. Not at home today but will take some pics when I get back :)

    12. Hello! I'm very new to dollstown and 17 yrs boy body very impressed me, I willing to get the body for my Switch boy.
Did anyone ever hybrid these 2 companies? I want to ask if the resin is match or not and what color should I get.
      It's absolutely beautiful sculpt!

    13. Gothiclibrarian, sorry it's been so long. I took a pic of my Pale Skin, Oriental Skin and Honey Peach Fresh together but it's really overcast today and it just isn't showing how they really look. It's supposed to brighten up tomorrow so I will take another pic and remember to post it here if that will be of help.

    14. Tremendous help, thank you so much!!!

    15. Gothiclibrarian...here you go.... from left: Oriental, Honey Peach Fresh and Paleskin. The Oriental and Paleskin are both just over a year old and are kept behind a blackout curtain, so relatively unyellowed. The HPF was made last Summer and came to me quite soon after being purchased by the original owner and left in her box. The pale skin head cap belongs to Soi, down on the shelf, while my aged original Estella Pumpkin-Head is currently on the body, she has DEFINITELY yellowed! Hope this is some help :)

    16. SO helpful, thank you!!!! Seriously, you just saved me a ton of heartache.

But now I need a whole "new" doll because that honey peach fresh resin is amazingly pretty <3 <3

    17. Nice to be of help. Well, I know where you can get a cheap Hyun head if I ever get the ding out of her nose, tee hee ;) Seriously though, look at the way the light filters through the lip on the head cap and leaves the peachy glow! I love that, it's just gorgeous, it would be interesting if anyone had an older version to see how it ages

    18. It's truly beautiful!

My BJD live boxed in a closet all of the time when not being photographed, but even in complete darkness they do still change over time (the changes are nice and even though).

It's good to be mindful and careful, but I also collect some vintage fashion dolls and there truly is just no stopping all the changes with man-made materials and the passage of time. Maybe in a vacuum-sealed display case or something, but you'd really have to make quite the environment.

      Cheers!
      ~Anika

    19. I think it's probably fine when all your dolls are complete... it's just because I have more heads and like to swap them around... Estella is becoming a bit of a challenge as she is so banana-y now, I think her next face-up will involve a complete base-coat with the spray gun. I don't mind doing it with just a head, it's a kind of futile exercise when you spray the whole body though, unless you plan never to move them, or it begins to chip and scratch away.... still... I enjoy dolly maintenance ;)

    20. Uh oh, 15% off anniversary sale.... Its not a good time for me because I feel like I've met my doll limit already this year. But that's a pretty good discount imo.

Planning for later on, I've been trying to decide what head would be right for my Soi's sister. I'd love to see all your Remis. Or maybe Rian would be better. Or Amy, though she might be small for the 17 body?

    21. I really love my remi but I think Amy would look great on 17 yr. You can't go wrong. I like rian but am not in to open mouths. I myself am hoping to put a soi 18yr on layaway. :)

    22. I have Amy on the 18 yr body so there should be no problem with her on the 17 yr body.

    23. I was planning on buying a DT17 body with this anniversary sale going on, but then I saw that they're working on a new head "Byula" that should be released in a couple of months. Which means that they'll release her at a discount on a body sometime down the line.

      Decisions, decisions....

    24. I was also planning to get a 17 girl body soon. This new head Byula looks delicate enough to go on my 13 body. My Elysia head would look better on the 17 than her current 13 body. I would love to see some Dollstown girls in the copper oriental resin if anyone has some..

    25. I wish they'd make an elf head for the 17/18 bodies. but, I don't want a hybrid because I love Dollshe's resins.

    26. [QUOTE I would love to see some Dollstown girls in the copper oriental resin if anyone has some..[/QUOTE]

My Amy on the 18 body is copper oriental, it is a lovely colour but I am afraid she has been rather neglected, think because I am not sure if I really like the face-up I commissioned for her. Will try and take some new photos with a change of wig and outfit to see if I can fall back in love again.

    27. This is my Kana in copper oriental - this is her face up test shot. I hope to get some pictures done tomorrow if it stops raining and the light improves.

It is a lovely color - my new favorite - easy to do face ups and easy to photograph.

    28. Kana is lovely. Haven't seen very many pictures of her out there. I like her in the copper oriental!

    29. I have a question for any DT18 body owners who have restrung their doll: Where did you get the elastic cord from please? My Kana is suddenly buckling at the knees again and I have found the elastic she came with (which I had tightened) has stretched again and now even the wiring won't keep her upright, so need to completely restring. I went to the local fabric and trims shop to pick some up yesterday and they no longer have the extra strong stuff in stock... so wondering where to turn now?

    30. Dollmore. I buy all my nice thick, strong elastic from Dollmore. I think my girl has 5mm in her

    31. Oooo brilliant! Thanks for your help, Girl :) Had a really frustrating afternoon (swearing, sore fingers, tears in the eyes, that kind of thing) trying to rig up a temporary solution but she is sadly now just lot's of bits wrapped in cloth that I've put back in her box.... off to Dollmore right now, cheers ;)

    32. sorry to even bring it up but i don't know where else to ask...... I was looking at the neat 'praying mantis' tiny on 5stardoll, and then noticed that their 'super star' bodies (in the Accessories/Parts section) have a lot in common with the Dollstown 18 bodies. like. A LOT. especially the boy's back muscles and hands, and the shoulders of both. What do you guys think? am i seeing things? is this something to alert somebody to? or is it all enough different to be fair game?

    33. I've said this before when this has come up in other threads, but there's only so many ways to sculpt realistic-ish human bodies, and multiple companies attempting to do that are bound to have fair amount of similarities.
I've always seen a lot of influence of the Italian Renaissance sculptors in the DT18 bodies (especially the shoulders and hands) so it's always possible the sculptor(s) at 5stardoll used the same or similar references. Even if they referenced the DT18 body directly, it's not a particularly stylized human body (like Doll Chateau, for example, some of their sculpts at the far end of the bell curve barely look like depictions of the human body anymore) and unless it's an obviously direct, exact, copy, there's not much DT can do legally

    34. @Lirin hmm.. I wish I noticed this before I made my one Granado hybrid, as I would have considered ordering that body along with a slew of Tinys I got from 5Star. The silhouette IS similar, but the torso piece of 5StarDoll's superstar is longer, and the pelvis is pretty different. 5star never fails to impress me in little ways. Not too crazy about most of the sculpts they've produced recently, though.

    35. @Lirin @KingOfChains

The body reminds me of Doll Legend and Doll Family H as well--I think it's a popular silhouette because it's really aesthetically pleasing.

    36. well, I've been around in the hobby a long time and I realize how similar bodies get. there are limited things you can do and limited aesthetic slants to explore. But this body stood out to me because, underneath the modifications that they made, there are distinctive elements that line up exactly with the DT bodies. Not just concurrent innovation, but as though they used DT bodies as a base. the set of the neck, the posture and shape of the boy's hands, the position and angle of the ribs, and the bust on the girl.

i realize that there's nothing DT can do legally because there have been major changes, too, and detail loss. I just found it startling enough to be worth mentioning.

    37. I see differences but it does look like they took pieces of the Dt body and copied them losing some detail and then added their own twist on top. One of the things I like about the Dollstown bodies is they are sculpted with bones showing, collar, ribs etc. Makes them more realistic. And I like the weight and feel of them. I wonder how heavy the 5Star body is in person. The 5Star is at such a low price that I can see a lot of people needing a body for a hybrid wanting to give it a try.

    38. Hi, just wondering...anyone who has both the DT18 and DT17 year bodies.... can they share clothing and shoes please? Sorry if anyone has asked this before :)

    39. @vonbonbon - Girl bodies or boy bodies? I have the 17 girl and 18 girl bodies. They both fit OK in the EID Iplehouse stuff. My 18YR wears IH spandex pants and her tank top and sweater are also from there. She fit decently in one of their lingerie sets as well. Not shoes though. My 18 girl wears Dollheart boots for 70cm boys! The 17 is a lot shorter but she also fit decently in IH lingerie. She's the big breasted version so some of the bras are hit or miss though. The 17 girl did manage to fit in a pair of IH strappy heeled sandals. Much to my surprise.

Please ignore the ridiculous orange head. I didn't want to pose a headless doll. Hah hah.

    40. I just bought a pair of 3 strap shoes from Val Zeitler for my DT 18 girl. They can be dyed later if needed. She also made a Victorian boot style for the 18 but you would have to get them from secondary market because she is out of the boots. They are gorgeous. I had looked at boy 17 styles from other companies for my girl and finally decided to just get the Zeitler's because I loved the look of them so much and knew they would fit because they were designed for the Dt 18 girls..I already have a pair of shoes I bought that don't fit anyone and don't need anymore pretty shoes as props. It is great to see the picture of the 17 next to the 18 and hear about Iplehouse clothes fitting the bodies. I want to get a DT 17 body this year when I save up and am relieved to hear about IH sandals fitting. It would be great to hear from others with the DT 17 girl body too, what other company shoes and clothes might fit it...[IMG]Dollstown Clown with new shoes see shoes by C. 41. Thanks Blithefool and Cherylsdolls :) Yes, sorry, I meant the 17 and 18 year girl bodies.... Hmmmm, already have Val shoes and boots for the 18 and was hoping that if I got a 17 year body later this Summer that they would be able to share clothes and shoes, but seeing your pic of the two bodies together up there, there is a bigger size difference than I was thinking.... hhhmmmm, needs more thinking about!

    42. wow, i'm surprised that the 17 Girl is that much smaller than the 18 Girl. I'm really glad to see the comparison! I've had plans for a long time to have an 18 girl and 17 girl pair as sisters, but they really are different sizes, aren't they?

thanks for the tip about clothes, too. I need to look more into EID stuff :)

    43. that is a big difference in size. I love the big girls, but had to sell mine. too heavy for me.

I saw a Dollshe Amanda head/DT 17 bod hybrid somewhere. can anyone remind me if it's here on DOA? my searches are turning up 0.
Although it might be a smaller size head than the other girls (?) I wonder how an Ausley would look on the 17 body.

:truffle (who's idea was it to put the roach emojis next to the cakes? ick.)

    44. @petiteballerine - Check did you check the Dollshe Girls thread? I *think* that Amanda/ DT hybrid is there.

I have an Erica Snow if you wanna see that combo. I'm afraid I don't have an Ausley though. The new Dollshe girls and the DT17 body are very close in size.

    45. Hi @BlitheFool - I looked with no success. I do remember the Amanda (or Erica) head looked very nice proportionately.
this isn't something I'm going to do anytime soon. When you get a chance, I'd love to see your Erica/DT 17 combo.
For some reason, I keep thinking Ausley's head is a little smaller than the newer ones. I don't see measurements on Dollshe's site. she looks fine on the same body.

am just piddling around with ideas for next year, having blown my dollie budget already this year. :apirate:

      • x 2
    46. @BlitheFool - thanks so much! I really like her on the DT which I find very appealing (but the DT heads are too young.) I think I like Erica a lot. nice fit on the neck.
and look at how your girl stands! I had the older knees on my 18 and she was wired, hot glue sueded, etc.
oh, shoot. now my dollie budget might get shattered again later on this year.

      :chomp::chomp::chomp::chomp:

    47. No problem, @petiteballerine ! The new dolls seem to stand pretty well. You just have to lock the knees in place. I haven't even bothered sueding them yet. The 17Y can even stand in heels- which I found pretty surprising. The 17Y boy stands nicely too. He sorta leans when he sits but that's OK with me.

    48. I agree - the new knees for the DT18 girls work really well - my 18 girl stands and poses like a champ with these. My 17 boy and girl also stand / pose fine too. Must say, I do love the 17 and 18 bodies - wonderful posers, and very, very expressive.

And - just posted my introductory DoA gallery thread for Isobel, my DT17 Kana. Finally finished her painting, and wig. If you'd like to take a peek, here's the link: /threads/summer-blues-introducing-isobel-dollstown-kana-17-girl.747712/

    49. @earth.spirits - Kana has a lovely face and can be more mature-looking than most of the choices for the bigger girls. love her lips!

    50. earth.spirits, your Kana 17 is stunning, I love the Kana sculpt so much (have 2 now!) and it's nice to see more of her around :)

    51. Dollstown is offering free shipping for orders over $200! Wasn't planning on picking a body up quite yet, but it is tempting. :chomp:

    52. Thank you, petiteballerine, and vonbonbon, for your kind words on Isobel, my Kana. : )

I have a quick question regarding Honey Skin Peach Fresh as a color choice that I hope the two of you can help me with. I did look at your lovely dolls in this skin / resin tone, but because of color monitor differences / photo differences, was not quite sure what this color would look like in person. Would you describe peach fresh as a sort of light peachy tone shade that's realistic? Is it more of an orange tone in person? Or a peachy-pink tone? Also, how does this color "wear"? Any color change / mellowing over time? Any other pluses or minuses for this color / resin type that you're aware of? Thanks for any and all info!

And I agree, whitebread, that free shipping offer for purchases over $200 is great! Hope Dollstown keeps that as a permanent sales offer. If so, it will certainly come in handy for my next DT purchase.

    53. To me, it's a light warm peachy colour, it isn't a dark skint one, like tan resin, it's just a lovely warm tone. I've had my HPF Kana for just over a year now and no differences I can detect. I do keep my dolls out of sunlight in a cabinet though, and don't tend to take them outdoors too often. Hope that helps :)

    54. Yes, that's very helpful, vonbonbon, thank you! : )

    55. Hello all! Haven't been on this thread in a while but it's lovely to see the new Kana head sculpt being used in so many lovely ways.
After seeing @petiteballerine and @BlitheFool 's combo of Erica Snow and the DT17 body, I was wondering if a Souldoll Zenith head could be used for a hybrid. I have a Souldoll girl and the size of the Zenith body is very similar to the DT17 (64cm height, 12.5shoulders, 8.8neck) but the proportions are very mature, not much to my liking (at least, not for the character I had in mind.) The thing is, the head is extremely small. It fits a 7-8inch wig which is surprising for its height. The neck of the Zenith body is also a tiny bit smaller, so I'm affraid the DT body might be too thick and ruin the aesthetics. But I just want the DT17 body so bad; it's perfect in so many ways haha. Does anyone on the thread happen to have a Zenith head and a DT17(or 18,) body? Any opinions on the hybrid would also be very appreciated ^^

    56. Hi Dayme, I have a soul doll zenith Agnetha and used to have Madelyn. The problem with Souldoll is, as you mention, that the heads are tiny proportional to the body, whereas Dollstown heads are mostly quite large. It's all down to personal tastes I guess, but might look quite odd. I don't have the 17 body but will try Agnetha on the 18 later and take a pic for you, I have to dash out now.

      • x 1
    57. @vonbonbon @BlitheFool Oh wow, thank you both so much!
I'm so glad to see the neck fit works! But does the head appear small? Or is it perhaps the resin mismatch that makes the head stand out a little..? Your Chantal is gorgeous by the way. I'm thinking this might work. I have the Lime head sculpt and I simply couldn't bond with her because of the sexy body she's on. It's a nice body by itself but I really like the DT proportions and style, so it was my first hybrid idea. Is your Chantal in normal skin? My Lime is, and when I compare her to my DollShe oriental resins she is so pink, I wonder if Fresh would be a better resin match. Or perhaps blushing would do.
Thanks again, that was really helpful! ^^

    58. @Dayme - You get a better idea of the head size with that 2nd link where she has no wig on, I think. To me, it looks fine. But I don't mind wider shoulders on my girls. Chantal is NS and my DT body is Copper Oriental- which is why it looks odd. Oriental wouldn't be too far off but Souldoll NS is pretty pink. Fresh is paler and more yellow than Oriental. I used to have some DS fresh hands kickin' around but I gave them to a friend.
