[Adopted] Doll Family 62cm and 70cm Discussion

Me and a friend of mine (who isn't on DoA) are thinking about ordering there too. She want's Lingfeng and possibly Lyre and I'm going for Xiangyi. We'll order together in June or July.
We both didn't care much for the first molds they came up with but now they're improving quite nicely and we'd like to give it a try.

LoL, the resin matches aren't going to be easy there, but we'll manage. Though, it would've been lovely if the company'd tried to get close to other company's resin colours - not a bad choice if you ask me.

 

My first doll is a doll family Lyre and he's actually very nice. His body is quite smooth, no seams that I could see. I got him in white resin and it's such a beautiful colour. I also love that depending on the lighting and how I photograph him, he can sometimes look like he has a soft light grey resin instead of white. Heavier than I expected but a nice size.

I am not really familiar on how to tell if he is strung tightly or not as he is my first and I don't really have any other dolls currently to compare him with. The only issue I have is trying to position him in a nice sitting position but that could just be me not knowing how to pose BJDs properly.

 

Do you happen to know if DF WS matches any other companies? I'm contemplating getting an extra head at some stage.

 

If I remember correctly Steve told me that DF WS is paper white, in that case any other company offering real WS should be a good match, too.
LoL, right now I can only think of BBB/RS with that WS tone but there're still a few other companies - just can't think of them now^^°

I just saw the first owner pics of Xiangyi and I'm like OMG! I think he's still very cute but seeing him like that I'm not so sure I still want him - suddenly I got the feeling that his chin is too pointy and his cheeks too full. I could always sand them down to my liking but I'm really unsure now. I've done mods before (heck, I modded ALL my AoD's!) but still the thought keeps bugging me...

 

I felt the same way, Rillja. He's a very cute boy to be sure, but he looks very young to me. I'm hoping my Lyre's chin won't be crazy-pointy or I'll have to sand it and I really don't want to.

Making a list of clothes that fit DF 62cm boys. ^-^ Thus far we have in no particular order:

Tata's Paradise: coats and shirts fit well, except for the shorts. (possibly a fluke? I have heard good things about the pants though) A different account said that the pants fit, so perhaps it was a fluke.

Dollmore: leather pants and shirts

Marsh Pants: Pants obviously (great news imo, she seems so nice.)

Iplehouse: 60cm pants and shirts fit

Guessdoll: shirts are very tight

Coolcat: shirts fit, but are a little roomy in the shoulders.

Blue Blood Dolls:clothes fit pretty good, the pants seem to pull down some though.

Impldoll: clothing also fits though the shirts are loose around the shoulders.

Alice Collections The pants fit perfectly, but shirts are a bit too short. If the new body is a little shorter it might be okay. (It's not terrible, but it's not a perfect fit) Shoes are great. Fit the shoes on him no problem even with socks. Also, apparently one can give Alice Collections measurements to work with as well.

Dollheart Pants fit, don't know about their other stuff.

Sunny's World(you can give them the measurement and they can make them)

Volks SD13 pants and shirts apparently fit.

Crobidoll Shirts fit, don't know about pants

Nine9Style Shirts, don't know about pants

Souldoll Shirts, don't know about pants.

...And also a list for the DF girls. Thus far we have:
Tanyastyle: dresses. They appear to be a little short though...

Resin matches for DF dolls.
-Dikadoll white skin and DF doll white skin are close, but not a perfect match. The Dika is a little more yellow. Could probably be fixed with blushing.
-For normal skin in both Dika and Doll Family, the match is not exact. I suspect that if you ordered a piece from Doll Family and a piece from Dika at the same time the color match would be much closer. With blushing I think it will work.
-Dollzone white and Doll Family white are not a match.

 

LoL, nice to know I'm not the only one who thought so. It's strange how one's perception can change with only a few pics taken by someone on the other side if the planet^^°

Well, I hope you really won't have to sand his chin! Though I think it's an easy enough task it still feels strange to do so, especially when you really love a mold except for one tiny detail.

As for Xiangyi, since I want him to be a girl anyway a little "cutey" certainly won't hurt. I guess I'll just go for it and try (and mod him/her if need really be). Luckily I still have a few months grace period to think this over and decide whether to get him/her or not.

 

I hope there will be more DF bigger dolls on the forum, Im intrested in their 70cm body^^

 

Lyre actually does look younger than he appears in the promo pictures which I am a little miffed about. I don't know if it's the face up they gave him or what. I got that sculpt because he looked older in the promo pictures. I guess I'll have to play around with him a little more to see if I can't get a similar effect, although I recently tried him with long red hair which did make him look a lot older than some of the other wigs I had him in.

Thanks for the suggestion Rillja. I had looked at a few companies but their WS isn't really white which is a shame. There were some nice manly face sculpts I had been hoping to maybe try out at some stage.

I like their Moon sculpt in their bigger 70cm size. The face sculpt can go either way really, male or female. It's just so delicate.

 

Oh God I hope I have the same effect for my Lyre since I ordered a wine-colored wig. If he's really immature-looking I won't be pleased. =_= I'm not completely opposed to modding him myself, but the thought makes me very wary... Who knows though, maybe we can find a manly combination that will make him look older.

 

delicate disaster - Have you tried using different size eyes? I have a 14mm in at the moment. I have yet to decide whether it makes him look younger or older. I also bought him some black frames and that seems to help a little. Sometimes, I don't mind if he looks a little young but other times, I want him to look like the promo pic and I just don't think he does. One thing I did notice, I don't think he has eyelashes in the promo picture but he has eyelashes in person, at least mine does. I've been trying to figure out a way to remove them without ruining the face up, although the extra cheek blushing probably does make him look younger too and probably is what makes his cheeks look fuller. If I was confident enough, I would wipe the default face up and attempt a new one with a more mature look.

He just doesn't seem to look like he has any cheek blushing in the promo pic. Does yours have slight blushing on the chin?

 

He hasn't come yet actually. In fact, I haven't had any kind of shipping confirmation or even a "we're making him" confirmation. I do have a friend whose dolls have 14mm eyes so I could probably borrow them just to see how it would look. I know what you're saying though, I don't think I saw eyelashes on the promo either... I guess it depends on the faceup artist. Now I really want to see what the differences will be when he gets here since it's impossible to have them exactly the same. I have been thinking about doing his faceup myself as well, or at least giving him freckles but I don't have the materials and I'm a chicken. >_<

 

I'm curious to see the face up differences myself. Let me know if you post box opening pictures. I will say though that the acrylic eyes I got with the doll are fairly good quality. Looking at the promo picture though, I think he's wearing a 16mm which seems to be positioned a little higher rather than dead center.

Oh, something else I've discovered is that he is slightly broader than most other SD bodies so that's something to watch for when you're buying him clothing.

 

I'm curious to see what color they put with him, I have a pair of mauve eyes I got free from Blue Blood Dolls that are really lovely. I plan to put them in him but they're 16mm.

I took a leap of faith and ordered a clothing set from Blue Blood (hence the free eyes) and I really hope they fit now that you mention it. I knew I should have checked the measurements...but it was such a good deal! I'm sure the boots will fit in any case and they're pretty damn awesome.

I know I keep talking about his clothes...but it's all I've got. :'(

 

I think mine were a brown coloured. They looked kind of gold in certain lighting. I am going to try an 18mm green glass eyes on him later today and see if I can get a similar effect to the promo picture.

Ah I love the Blue Blood Dolls. I've been drooling over them but my partner is very frugal so I'm limited in how much I can spend on dolls and doll items. Unless I won the lotto or something, I don't stand a chance of owning one. I had a hell of a time convincing him to let me buy Lyre and I bought him when he was on special!

I checked out the blue blood clothing, you should be fine - it looks like it would fit but let me know when you get your doll. I bought GUESS doll clothing and the top fits mostly but it was the pants that were super snug. I usually have to fight to try and button them up because his waist is a bit wide. I bought them though when I first got him and made the mistake of not knowing that SD sizes differed.

I think the wait is always exciting. Although it is a long wait (I think mine took a month and a half to arrive). I remember being nervous because I've never ever spent THAT amount of money on anything other than a Playstation or a Wii. I'm still nervous when I think about it.

My Lyre is a White Skin though and I have noticed he gets dirty very very easily. Even though my floors are clean, he still manages to get marks on his feet. He does stand right out of the box and is quite stable once you figure out how to position his feet when he stands!

 

I was afraid of yellowing, so I got the pink skin, I hope it's a natural color since most of the dolls I've seen on the forums are white skins.

My wig just shipped! =^-^= I'm really excited. It's a Spite and Malice in 9-9.5 so we'll so how it fits and such when it gets here. (hopefully not too loose)

I like waiting for stuff to come in the mail, but I had him sent to my friend's house to avoid some of the questioning from my family. I don't get to obsessively check the mail this way even though I know it probably hasn't shipped. I think we've emailed the company though.

I've never spent so much on something like this either....o_0 But I've been stalking this hobby so long I had to have one of my own, damn the popular opinion at my house. XD

What is your Lyre up to anyway? With all the white is he a little ghost of some sort? He is rather ethereal...

 

The pink skin looks quite nice. Someone had one - I can't remember which DFDoll sculpt it was but I do remember seeing a picture of one somewhere and it does look quite lovely. From what I gather just from reading stuff around the place, yellowing seems to be an issue with all resin but I have heard that white skin seems to yellow faster. I've had mine since January this year and he seems fine and I have taken him out a lot in the sun for photos. I honestly don't know why I ordered a white skin doll because he's a pain to take photos of. As long as I don't use flash, he looks all right but when I take photos of him with the flash on, he tends to look a bit washed out or really really white.

Oh I had a huge drama with wigs for Lyre. I went through a heap before I found a few that fit. I have two HZ 9-10inch wigs and they fit him, a little bit big but not noticeably so and because the cap is well made, it doesn't fall off him or anything. I also have a few 8-9inch wigs and depending on where you get it from, it can either fit perfectly or be too big. I have found Fur wigs do tend to be big because there's no elastic like on most synthetic wig caps. I have three fur wigs, one which I never use on him because it's just too big even though the size was listed as 8-9inch and the other two do fit him but are still a little big. I usually dress him in the synthetic wigs though because they fit better and are more secure without needing anything extra like Velcro to hold it in place.

I've been looking at the BJDs too for about five years before I was finally able to buy my first (Lyre). During that time, I made do with the Sims! It wasn't as good as a BJD but it did the job and tied me over.

My Lyre is suffering from an identity crisis. I keep changing the colour of his eyes, the colour and style of his wig and I've changed his name about three or four times. He's recently taken on the character from a second novel that I'm currently writing. He's definitely not a ghost but with this one wig I have, he certainly looks like one!

Oh I should mention that flat backed eyes look good on him but the other ones, you know the ones with the ball type thing on the end? They tend to leave small gaps in the corners of his eyes. I am having that issue at the moment with my recent Dollmore eyes.

 

Man, I hope the eyes fit then, I got a pair of round eyes so it might not work... We put them in a Buddydoll Raphael yesterday and they're lovely. I think we'll have a photostory with him when Aiden comes XD
My friend and I are talking about body blushing our dolls when mine gets here, just have to get the Msc. If we do, I might give my boy freckles while we're at it.

If you want to see examples of two of the skin colors, Alder has a NP Lingfeng and a WS Zhouyu- that we both take pictures of.

As for wig issues.. I'm not sure what Alder has @.@ But I'm planning to try a 8-9 wig from crobi.... If that doesn't work, they do have a larger wig in 9-10, and from jeeryama it's a 9-10 being shipped.

Eye size issues, Alder's lingfeng's wearing 16mm and they fit just fine. You don't see any gaps or anything. Even her MSD from DF wear's 16s and they look very nice in him.

I only have 14s for my dollmore MSD.

 

That's exactly what I wanted to hear veraca! I'm really hoping the 16's work well in my boy. We put the wig I ordered on a similar-sized doll head and it fit really well. I was afraid it wouldn't stretch much since it was a handmade fur wig. ^_^ Thanks for the pictures, your boys are really stunning.

Eheh I saw a video posted on youtube with a LF wearing a crobidoll indi blue furwig (it's 9-10 though..) and it looks great on him from the video...I'll be interested to know if 8-9 crobidoll wig fits a LF since I want to order one too ^w^

If you guys are interested in furwigs...perhaps you want to try Sunny's wigs from ebay.. you can give her the measurement of the doll head and she'll tailor a wig to fit :P It's not a tight fit though..I still need to put a rubber band around Sen's head to make sure it stays on...@@

I ordered one of Sunny's wigs for my Lyre and it's about the only wig I have that fits perfectly. I gave her/him the head circumference and she/he made it for that head and it fits really really really well. I had ordered two fur wigs prior to that one which ended up being too big despite it being listed as 8-9inch wigs.

Actually, the picture of him in my avatar is the wig Sunny made. Also, really fast shipping. I was surprised and delighted.

Shunyuki, he's gorgeous. I love the colour you chose for his eyes. They're such a nice contrast against that dark black hair. Love the name you chose for him too.

I have way too many wigs. I ordered two of the wrong size but they fit pretty well for being a tad bigger but they are HZ wigs and extremely good quality. Very soft hair strands as well.

Is that his default face up? It looks lovely, very subtle but effective.

 

Moon and Dawn are lovely dolls and I like the double jointed body on these boys. They are very flexible.

patricialangston, I don't really have any other dolls to compare mine to right now but he's definitely got a bit of weight to him. I was actually quite surprised when I lifted him from the box. I really wasn't expecting a doll to weigh as much as he did. Not sure if that's a sign of being solid or not.

 

Shirahime- Yep, that's his default! I was both suprised and relieved when I saw him in real. His cheek blushing is not as red as what was posted on the website, thank goodness!

patricialangston- Erm..I'm pretty noob to the world of BJDs so I'm not sure...I'm kinda guessing solid..

Yeah they're double jointed in the knee and elbow, and his wrist movement is pretty good, but I haven't played with his ankle joint much.
It's very odd about his skin- because Alder's SD from DF is very shiney, and my SD isn't shiney oO

 

Oh is that what double jointed looks like? I wondered about that too. Suspected it was but wasn't sure.

Was Alder's SD white skin? My SD is white skin and I remember it did look a little shiney when I first got him but it's toned down since then and that was about four months ago now. I'm not sure if they spray something or not on it, it just feels really smooth, I don't think I've ever felt anything that smooth before.

 

Alder's MSD is white skin, and he's toned down from what I've noticed and he's been sealed once before.

I can't get over how my XiangYi isn't all shiney *giggle* Still have to seal him.

They have a lot more range in terms of their looks outside of the promo photos.

 

I have a doll family to... a girl, Ella (58cm)
I could say that she's a bit shiny - which is something that surprised me a lot, for I didn't expect the resin to be shiny - and really really smooth...
I ordered her with the default face-up, which is quite nice. just the lips, are a little too... plain, and flat. I guess I'll have it redone, soon or later.
other things I can say about her, is that she's little kicky and I've had some issue in making her standing, but it was the beginning and maybe it was just my clumsiness. now we deal together very well. she can hold quite well lots of positions, and posing her has become a true fun.

I think it's quite a good doll, IMHO... I'm glad to have her.

 

*nod* I have a lot of issues with my XiangYi. His neck is fine, but his legs and butt hate me. As do his arms. I think I'll have to restring him and make him a bit looser. He's too tight for my liking, especially that I can't get his torso joint to behave really >> It's either all the way on, or all the way off.

 

after a month or so and a lot of posing, the arms and shoulder got a bit looser, no issue with them. still some with her head - some positions are fine, some other just don't. can't have her really looking exactly where I want to. she looks where SHE wants to. nothing compared to the head posing ability of the souldoll guy, for instance.
but again - maybe it's just because she's new, or needs restringing.
otherwise, I'm really satisfied with her.

 

I don't think I've seen any of the DF girls, lunaria. Would you mind showing us? She sounds rather willful.

guess because they're quite cheap and there aren't lot of them around? at least, it's the reason why at first I myself didn't think she could be really cute and beautiful. then when she arrived at home, it has been really love at first sight.

I don't know if I'll ever have a dollfamily guy - guess I'm more the souldoll - IH type - but the girls are really cute. I've got an eye on Elsa too

they're quite small... to tell the truth, as her being my first doll, i was thinking that an SD could be bigger!
lips aren't thin, that's true anyway. maybe the Elsa mod has got thinner lips.

I totally love the DF 1/3 body, it fits my taste perfectly Its skinny and his cuuuutie little rubs are wisible and no extrabuffy abs... its cute :3 The hands are small and nice and he's quite stable. (Not now though, he needs restringing )

YAY! Danihen's in one piece again and he can no longer protest wearing the orange outfit I made him!

 

Tell me, what does the bottom of their feet look like? Are they flat-bottomed or a little defined?

As for Lyre, I'm beginning to think he doesn't really look like the company pics. If you can track down Shirahime's pics you might want to get a look at them.

 

The foot seems to be flat bottomed, smooth and the toes are detailed. I wouldn't say realistic detailing but there are lines on the toes. And I just discovered that he has trouble standing when wearing boots although he has no problems standing when wearing the converse I bought for him.

I'm not sure how everyone else found the standing poses but I always had to adjust his foot and make sure they were flat on a level ground to make him stand. He is a little unsteady on carpet and he seems to stand best with no shoes.

With Lyre, face-up, wig and eyes make a world of difference. Just pull off the lashes and you'll be right. I am positive he doesn't seem to have any in those promo pictures. Hair that covers either side of his face and obscures part of his cheeks seem to work well in narrowing his face more. He is a nice head sculpt. I just have issues mostly with his eyes. They look kind of bigger than I expected them to be.

Although I have noticed all the other SD boys coming in actually look quite lovely and as they do in the photos. Maybe I just got a face up artist on a bad hair day or something.

Oh well. I am awaiting a second head from another company to try out. And some Dika Jointed hands for his body. I'm curious to see how Dika white matches up with DFDoll white.

 

That's good to know, some dolls have really very flat feet, I like it when they're sculpted a little bit. As for his standing, if it's bad, I think I can suede him, I have a friend who hot-glue sueded her doll and I think we can do it.

True true, I actually heard that Dika white was a very good match for DF white, so you'll probably be very pleased. ^_^ That's something I wish I'd known when I ordered my boy, I might have gone white so I could get their jointed hands and know they'd match.

 

Shirahime - Yes, thats me. ^-^; I'm still waiting. My only gripe is that DF doesn't offer a tan resin. X3 I would really be much more tempted by Linyu if they did. But Lyre is almost certainly going to be mine eventually. He'll fit perfectly.

 

Shirahime - actually the outfit's a SD size from dollmore (sold as a set). The cotton pants that are black that came with cannot fit Danihen though >< Hips and thighs are too big. But the black leather pants, also from Dollmore, (sold as just pants) fits pretty well. The snap comes undone now and then, so it's snug around the groin and waistline, but it does fit fine ^^

Flat feet? oO; Both Alder's MSD and our two SDs from DF aren't flat footed at all! They're pretty realistic. My Dollmore kid has flat feet which is kind of annoying... Danihen, and alder's SD, they're both obsessed with their butts going out when you try to stand them. Alder's SD stands like a rock with his hip out- and I think they keep doing this butt out thing cause they're too tight- so I plan to get Danihen thinner, and longer, elastic later.

Yeah I know Wind's a DF MSD. That's why I mentioned it. I've been looking at him for months, but I've been looking at a DoC for years.. xD

 

Thanks for the info veraca! I've found his hips and bottom are slightly bigger than most other SD boys. I'm waiting for some Marsh pants to arrive so I am quite excited as the one and only pants I currently have for my doll is really tight around the hips - it's a pain to try and do the button on the waistband.

I don't know why DF doesn't do tan dolls. It's strange as that seems to be a common colour choice at most companies, although Impldoll doesn't really do tan dolls either from memory.

KarieChaos, I'm the same way with my budget. I am only allowed one doll a year as well. I admit to doing the same thing as you, if I like a sculpt but the price isn't something I am willing to pay then I hunt around for a similar sculpt from another company that fits the price I want to pay. I also think hybriding is such a fantastic idea. It fascinates me. I'm thinking of hybriding the female doll that I want to get later this year especially seeing as I can't find one that fits my budget.

I saw your custom purple BBB in the other thread and it looks great. Did you do the colouring yourself? I thought I read that you did but it was a while ago when I saw it.

I like the DZ dolls a lot but their wait times are a bit long for me and they are a bit pricey which is a shame. Maybe I can get a head sculpt one day and hybrid it.

Going back to clothing, we should start making a list of clothing that fits the DF SD size dolls as people seem to be getting them now.

I am waiting on a few items to arrive so I'll post when I get them and try them on my doll. I have found most shirts are a reasonable fit but the pants are proving to be a bit more of a challenge.
