[Adopted] CP Delf Discussion Part 8

May 20, 2014

    1. So I'm thinking of restringing my If, since she can't pose for anything. Her elastic is so old it's hardly elastic anymore! She's a type two. What size string do you guys have in your delfs? I keep reading different sizes for restringing them and I don't want to get the wrong one, and then have to have random body parts floating around waiting for the right kind!

    2. I have a type one body (which was a ***** to string). I had one of the owners at Think Pink do it for me. She was so nice to do it because I never would have gotten that headcap on. Anyway, the type of string I used was the kind that they sell on the Luts website for delfs. :)

    3. I use 2.5mm white round elastic shock cord PuffsxPlus :) it's basically the same as what Luts uses. I bought mine from ebay, but most craft/ haberdashery places should have it. The best quality shock cord has a lot of elastic crammed inside it, which lasts a lot longer in dolls, but most stuff on ebay would do nicely ^_^

    4. I was actually thinking of asking the same question as puffs!! I have a 2005 Juri who does not pose anymore....:pout: she just sits and is no fun to take pictures of. Im pretty terrified to take her apart.....

    5. The first thing I did when I got from first BJD (a Luts Shiwoo) was take him apart and put him back together again. After you've done once it's not a big deal at all - I would recommend doing it as soon as possible Loodles, otherwise you'll just keep putting it off and not wanting to interact with your doll >: There are lots of tutorials online, but all I used originally was a piece of string and some pencils to hold the elastic on the end of the arms and legs whilst I attached the feet and hands. If you find the elastic is quite tight and difficult to pull, just get someone to help you! Once you've done it you'll feel so much better :)

    6. Thanks, guys! I really appreciate it. I'm hoping that once she's strung well I'll get a bigger variety of pictures with her. I haven't really been able to do much with her since I got her since she kind of just flops around!

    7. PuffsxPlus, I can't say for certain what size is in mine, since I bought a "SD Restringing Kit" off Mint on Card (because they were the ones that had one in stock at the time) when I redid Ed. He came to me with some pretty destroyed strings (among other things), and was flopping around like your girl's doing. I did a little sueding on him while I had him apart, and he's much more fun to pose and have out now.

Loodles, it really is much better after the first time! I accidentally unstrung my first doll (an MSD) the first day I had him--within an hour of getting him, actually. It freaked me out at the time, but once I had him back together, I realized restringing wasn't so bad--earlier this year, I actually unstrung and restrung a doll in the middle of a group box opening! (And yesterday, took a doll to a meet in the afternoon, who started the morning in pieces.) It's really

Speaking of Ed (though that was the first paragraph!), I was at a local convention this weekend, so he got to go along, and made a new friend there, too. I think I'm going to have to buy him a pet, now... :sweat

(the little dragon is not mine, but one will be someday now. apologies for awful hotel lighting.)

    8. Thanks everyone! I'm going to order some string, I'll do some YouTube research too! I've only ever taken her head off when she got a much deserved birthday face up! And that dragon is pretty cute vicemage!

    9. Here is Luts' Stringing Tutorial.

It shows a Type 1, but Type 2 is the same, except for the neck mechanism, which is pretty much self-explanatory. The boys and girls are strung the same.

It helps to have a friend to assist, but it can be done alone. I highly recommend a string puller and at least one hemostat/locking forceps. I use some of the stronger wooden double pointed knitting needles to hold the hand and foot loops when necessary, but a pencil or suchlike would do.

Sometimes stringing a doll is a piece of cake, but sometimes stringing a doll can be a sort of baptism by fire into this hobby. We have all catapulted body parts around the room at some point, and gotten our fingers pinched really hard, and used a lot of bad language. Just take it one step at a time, take a break if you need to, and remember that we're here to help if you get stuck.

    10. I would be a little wary of the Luts tutorial. It strung my girl WAAAY too tight. Like she couldn't even lie straight. If you do use the Luts tutorial, add a little extra length. I ruined strings this way :(

    11. I always lay the doll out on a flat surface with all the limbs in the right places, and then test the elastic to make sure it's the right size. If you pull it from the head to the feet you can usually estimate how long it needs to be, and the same for the arms :)

    12. This weekend I actually bought 3.5 sized string to put in Io's legs and it's so perfect. She isn't kicky anymore! :D If I didn't already put new string in her arms when I first restrung her, I'd almost put it in her arms too.

    13. I've been using the Luts tutorial for years with no problem. I also use only the Luts cord. Maybe it doesn't work as well with other cord?

    14. I've been planning on restringing my Soony and sueding her a bit, and maybe wiring her arms so she can hold her poses a bit better. I would have thought 4mm would be the size for delfs? I know most people use 3mm for their Minifees. Maybe I'll just get both and see which one I like better? I'm not exactly sure on who has the best elastic though since I've never bought any before. *_*

    15. I'm afraid I'm no help at all with stringing issues. I'm spoiled that I have 2 people in my local group who love to restring dolls so I rarely have more than a couple of weeks of floppiness to deal with for any of my dolls.

Although I don't recall Lorilei having been restrung since I got her last year....

    16. I just looked up my order history, and I've apparently got 4.5mm elastic in Ed right now. I honestly didn't put much thought into it, however, beyond "who has SD string that's in stock so I don't have to wait forever?" I can't say for sure what size I have on hand now, either (it's what'll be used for Jace if, when I finally get to his blushing, he turns out to need a restring as well). The 4.5mm in Ed is working great, though, so I can't complain at all!

    17. Like I said in my post, I used 3.5mm on her legs (not exactly for sure what's in her arms because it's from a friend so not from the same batch lol). Hope it helps :D

Also, I bought the Ramones shirt everyone and their moms have when I was at the doll store this weekend and when I was about to put it on, I saw the black dust on her hand so I ninja'd it off and blew it away from her hands and arms before it could set. So I have a question: How have you guys taken care of color-fasting it? Were you able to just do it to the sleeves? I'd just stick the entire thing into the vinegar but I'm afraid the black might bleed onto the white. :(

    18. *playing catch-up :sweat

I recently restrung a couple of my dolls, and even though they're OfT for this thread, I still used Luts SD string for them. IMVHO, I think its the best out there. It breaks in nicely, and lasts a long time. I play with all of my Delf all the time, and all I usually end up needing is re-sueding and tightening of string. I use a pair of chopsticks, different thicknesses of ribbon and hemostats for restringing. Its all I've ever really used. OH, and the occasional doorknob too for pulling string when i had to put on a type 1 head. Don't laugh, if the doorknob's strong enough, it works like a third hand! :3nodding: I use the rubberband and medical tape method to hold on my type 1 heads, I refuse to use the hook-in-the-headcap, since I'm always afraid that the tension could crack them. :shudder

I don't know if the Ramones shirt will bleed, but I use the vinegar method for any clothes that could stain. I just soak them in the solution and then make sure that I rinse the daylights out of them (vinegar smell on clothes :ablah:) before I let them hang dry.

Welp, its official. I've got a Tanning Shiwoo on layaway! One of my grails! :celebrate Now I think the only Delf Shiwoo I'm missing are OE and Sleeping Elf. I have one each in MNF size. Some of the Art Delf Shiwoo I don't think I'll ever find at a reasonable price, but I can dream! ;)

      Ryu

    19. I was just afraid of bleeding since it did have that black dust of doom. o_o (I actually never had problems with the vinegar smell in clothes considering I usually use it as a fabric softener) But thank you for the advice. :)

    20. I have that shirt in three sizes (SD, MSD, YO) and I don't colorfast anything ever. It's never bled off or stained any of my dolls - and most of the ones who wear it are blushed and sealed within an inch of their lives......so hopefully you should be ok.

    21. I think that's why I'm so worried. Io, the only one I have that could wear it, has yellowed from age and I don't think her entire body is sealed (her hands were because she had a manicure). I think the black dust I saw just worried me; it was covering her hands before I blew it off. o_o

    22. Well, sealing is actually the problem with dolls getting dye from clothes on them. It sticks to the sealant better than the bare resin, and when it does happen, it's harder to get off without removing the sealant and ruining the blushing or tattoos. On an unsealed doll, if it does get black on it, it's easy to remove. Sometime soap and water will do it, otherwise rubbing alcohol or any cleaner you have. Magic eraser works great for smaller areas.

It's much more a pain to get the blushed/sealed dolls dirty-dyed-stained than the ones who aren't sealed...

    23. I'll be getting a 3.5, 4, and 4.5 to test which ones I like best! :3 I also have that shirt! As adorable as it is, I took it off of my Soony the other day and it had left some black marks on her shoulder cups and a little spot on her chest where one of the letters was above. Luckily I got it off with a magic eraser but no one will be wearing that shirt for a while. :pout: It fits so well for both of my SD characters, too. I'm too scared to do the whole vinegar thing because I'm always afraid of fading. I didn't even know the colors could bleed during it *_*

    24. That's crazy! None of them have ever left black on any of mine! And someone is always wearing the MSD and SD versions.....

    25. Maybe I just got the most perfect shirt from the doll shop. haha (it was also the only one there)

    26. Finally got some new shots of Lorelei, wearing her SoulDoll dress . . . still working on getting the lighting just right, but isn't she gorgeous? :D

    27. She is, indeed! That dress is just perfect for her.

    28. Wow..Ashbet, she is indeed gorgeous.

I got some photos of Mani today. He's been with me for over 3 years now, and I still absolutely love him.

    29. Holy moly she is gorgeous!!

    30. Maybe I have one with some extra dye on it or something? Or it's an all around crappy version or something. It would be my luck. Lol.

      She is stunning!!

      He is indeed handsome!

    31. Yeah, it's hilarious because there's STILL a bit of black dye on mine after soaking and rinsing it, but since it's not as bad now as it was before soaking/rinsing, I'm not going to worry about it

    32. Thanks so much, everyone!! :aheartbea

CathyM, Mani is so gorgeous -- that subtle shading around his eyes, and the beautiful eyes you chose for him, are just outstanding. He's a beauty!

      -- A :kitty2

    33. Mani is too gorgeous for his own good!

    34. I've still got some old Delf white skin heads around--as in Type 1 heads!

Does anyone know of inexpensive bodies, boy or girl, that might work with slightly yellowed/greened heads?

There are so many new companies out there that it's difficult to know... I was just looking at the Classy Doll news notice, but have no idea what their ws looks like... and their neck might be a bit too large at 10.2cm.

    35. I've got a Juri07B WS head that I've been trying to find a body for over a year. It's a sort of pale cream/ivory shade, not yellow or green to look at. My first choice is a CP Delf WS body of suitable age/color change, but as you probably know, they don't come onto the MP often. I missed a couple that got snapped up before I discovered them.

A found a Domuya Flexibody with an excellent resin match, but it's too big in proportion to the Juri07B head, which looks rather pinheaded and ridiculous on it. I didn't know they were so big. So the search goes on.

I almost got a Shinydoll Thaasa body, but someone beat me to that, too. I *think* the proportion would be good, but I have no idea about the color.

Bottom line: I, too, would like to know if anyone has any recommendations.

    36. From my experience, AODs are a perfect match. My type 1 Juri 2005 was on a WS AOD body. The match is perfect. Look into them if you're looking for bodies :)

    37. I think that older B&G and Fantasydoll were good matches for older Luts/CP heads, as well.

(These may be hard to find, but I'd guess that older Soom Gem dolls -- not Super Gem, the originals -- would also be a good match and size fit. I used to have one, and she was very comparable to my Delfs in scale.)

      -- A <3

P.S., because I have to -- seriously cannot get enough of this girl!

    38. Did the soak fade the black at all? I've never done it before and I'm thinking about it. >.>

      She's so lovely! :3

    39. Not really. I first thought it did but it isn't that bad now that it officially dried

    40. I have a similar problem. "The Elf" (he hasn't told me his name yet) is a Beauty Green DES head, and he's definitely Beauty Green, which is okay for the character since he's an elf. But, to find a male body that's also green.... *_*

      Any suggestions?

      Ryu

    41. Good to know I'm not the only one looking and wanting to know what people recommend. I was telling myself for years to look out for CP bodies. Most of the ones I see are NS, though...! And it's true that there aren't that many coming up for sale... which is kind of weird, since there ought to be a lot out there! I guess there are just so many heads running about that the bodies are kept and not sold?!??

I'd heard AODs were good. There aren't a lot of those that come up in the Marketplace, either. I guess I might just have to buy a new one, but the white might be too white for my old heads... I guess I could always blush it a bit, to get a better match.

Beautiful girl! Thanks for the tips, Ashbet!

My greenish head is a boy--also a vamp. I've got him on an old CP body borrowed from another CP head... It doesn't look bad on an older body that isn't too yellow.

Good luck in finding a body for your girl!

But yeah... just wondering if anyone has tried some of those new, cheap bodies...?

    42. Did the black fade onto the white or anything?

And to keep this on topic, here's some Audrey spam.

    44. I have Deni my Soo on an old NS Dollzone body, and my Juri on a WS DZ body as well.

    46. Yay! Thank you! :3

      She's pretty! :)

    47. Ah-HAH -- finally got the lighting right! (It's a pain trying to get white resin/black hair/dark clothing to all work well together . . . wound up recruiting Josh to give me a hand with the lights.)

      Lorelei by Ashbet, on Flickr

(I promise, I'll have another doll obsession soon . . . I still need to get pics of my VDES! I just really wanted to get the perfect shots of Lorelei before I moved on, especially since I'm hoping to get a pic of all three Lishes together, but I had to get WS photography down using this setup, before I tackled two NS and one WS in the same shot.)

    49. Ashbet, your Lishe is soo lovely!

4arllin I saw your girl earlier and love her wig! She looks great!!

    50. Everyone's ladies are so pretty!

    51. Yes, many pretty girls here!! Des has always been one of my favorites :D

    52. Another doll obsession?! Nonsense! I'm enjoying the spam of this girl! :)

She's pretty! I love her colors!

    53. Oh, she's lovely!! Her face-up and wig are fantastic :D

      <3!

    54. xxSugarxPopzxx: OMG Audrey is gorgeous!! Is that the factory face up?
Rynn007: Your DES has such pretty eyes ^^

4arllin: Can't have enough DES spam! Your girl is all kinds of perfect!
Ashbet: More pics of Lorelei please ... that's once amazing photo :D

I've been out of touch lately ... been super lazy, but finally finished painting my new CP Soony girl who came in last week! Luckily I found some eyes and a wig that fit her perfectly, but poor girl does not have anything to wear ... will try to sew some clothes for her today.
Here she is - meet Antoinette ^^

    55. Thank you! Yes, it's the default factory faceup! I liked it better than planned so she'll only get rid of it if something bad happens to it. Even then I might get it to look as similar as possible. Lol. Antoinette is lovely! Those little freckles are to die for!

    56. Hey guys, I was hoping some of you might know this if you have other company dolls/clothes?

What sizes can Delf girls wear for Iplehouse clothes?

    57. Honestly, it looks like IP girls are built proportionally different than most dolls, so if anything tight fits Delf girls, I'd be really surprised. Some of the loose things, like oversized sweaters might fit.

If you're looking for non-specific clothes, nearly everything for SD girls would be your best bet.

      Ryu

    58. Yeah, IH dolls have very unique (read: realistic) proportions that no other dolls have in their size ranges. I wouldn't be able to get one of my MNF boy's pants on my JID boy if my life depended on me, and his clothing swamps my MNF.

So I'd be very surprised if you could find anything that would fit a Delf.

    59. Seconding that, Kirahfaye! I'll have to try to take an amusing pic of an EID woman next to a Delf girl -- the height and proportion difference is kind of hilarious.

(They're currently side-by-side because I'm slowly rearranging my doll display setup . . . I usually keep dolls from different "worlds" separate, so that the big-headed Volks cuties or delicate Delfs don't look ridiculous next to the big buff smaller-headed Iples.)

nYID clothing *might* fit a Delf, if it's something stretchy and unstructured -- but, honestly, I'd get clothing from Dollmore, Volks, Luts, Fairyland, Tata's Paradise (SD13 size is a little wider than Delf boys, but they can often share clothing -- SD17 stuff is too big), Sadol, Tous le Garcons, Leekeworld, AnotherSpace, MuseDoll, or about eight million other clothing sellers who have "SD" sizes.

Clowve, may I ask why you're curious? Is there a specific clothing item you're interested in, or do you have Iple dolls and are wondering if their clothes might fit an incoming Delf? (I have Delf girls and boys, and Iples of every size, so I might be able to do a fit test for you, if I own the item in question.)

But, yeah. They're proportioned totally differently, so at best, you'll get a loose and unstructured fit.

      Hope this helps!! :)

      -- A <3

ETA: Here's the photo! (Pardon the awful cell-phone pic and glare-y, dusty case -- I'm working on a lot of house rearranging, so they're just temporary roommates on display. Eventually, another Iple doll is going to take Lirael's place, and she'll go with my other Delfs and similar 60cm dolls -- I'm just not quite there yet, and I needed a place to put her safely out of the way while cleaning!)
