Special Event Adopt a Newbie

Adopt a Newbie!

In the spirit of good will and fellowship, we would like to invite our forum old-timers to once again participate in our "Adopt a Newbie" regifting event!

Many of us who have been in this hobby for a good long while have accumulated far more than we need, or sometimes want, to have. Surely, we all have things in new or like-new condition that we'd be happy to pass along to someone just starting out in the hobby!

Last year, DoA mods didn't have quite enough hands on deck to match up oldies and newbies, so we were unable to organize this event last year. This year, we are still a little short-handed, but we would really like to bring this event back! So, we will be changing the organization and logistics of this event somewhat.

Are you a Newbie?

With a welcoming spirit, we would like to invite our Newbies to benefit from the hoarding collecting habits of their forum elders.

When you buy your first doll, the first thing you think of is the creation of the special or unique look you will give your doll. It's a labor of love to pull it all together. It takes a lot of time, some patience and in most cases money. Having a basic piece of clothing, the right wig or eyes, takes that new piece of resin one step closer to your vision. We would like you to reap a small reward from our years of collecting and we hope that it helps you along just a wee bit.

If you are new to the forum, and new to doll ownership, please join us for this event.

Criteria for being a Newbie:

• member for 6 months or less
• in good forum and MP (if applicable) standing
• have at least one doll or have a doll on the way (On layaway counts! But please make sure that your doll is actually in production/going to be produced, not something like a Kickstarter that is not yet fully funded.)

Now, if you have been collecting BJDs for five years but are new to DoA, please be honest, as you are not really a hobby Newbie, and should refrain from signing up.

To sign up for this event, Newbies should create a new thread in Ask the Moderators with the title "Newbie Signup", and copy/paste, and fill out the following form to explain a little about their collection's sizes, genders, and styles. Please tag @AirimirOfGondor to make sure your thread is reviewed quickly!
We will review your account information to verify that you are qualified to join, and move your post to this thread, where Oldies will review your posts and see if they would be able to send you some of your preferred items. When an Oldie claims you, your post will be removed so that Oldies can just see unclaimed Newbies.

*If you see that an Oldie claims you, you can also edit your post to say "claimed", just to let people know you have been claimed, in the event a moderator doesn't remove your post right when you are claimed.

Are you a hobby Oldie?

Volunteer old-timers will select a Newbie (or more, if you want!) of similar doll interests. To claim a Newbie, reply into this thread, quote their post, and say you are claiming them. Please double check other Oldie posts to make sure they have not been claimed by someone else! You should copy down your chosen Newbie's info, and reach out to your Newbie personally to obtain their shipping information, and you will assemble a nice little gift to send them. Do your best to include something that will suit their dolly wishes or needs!
*Moderators will remove claimed Newbie posts, and we may remove Oldie claim posts to keep things streamlined as well, so be sure to save information, or screenshot things so you don't forget anything!

Criteria for being a volunteer:

• member for more than 3 years
• be in good forum and MP standing
• make sure that you're able to carry through on your commitment to your assigned Newbie – no flaking once you've signed up!
• can send your gift by September 10th

There will be no dollar minimum or maximum on the worth of your gift.

*Newbies will not be assigned by the mod team this year. Oldies will review the Newbie registrants and select one to claim. There may be more Newbies or Oldies interested in this event, and we cannot know how that will turn out, so because of this, please be aware that not everyone may be able to participate!

Sign-ups for this event end on August 30th, 11:59PM EDT (UTC -4:00).

Newbies!
Please try your best to remember to tag @AirimirOfGondor in your Ask the Mod signups. If the forum doesn't auto-fill out my username when you start to type it, you can just copy/paste my whole username - make sure to add the @ symbol before it (with no spaces!) and it should still work.

Oldies!
If the mod team removed your claimed newbie's post before you get a chance to save the info, just get in touch with AirimirOfGondor and I can make sure you get it.

Quick update;
Due to a smaller amount of Newbie signups than anticipated, we will consider adding some people who are just a little too old to be Newbies. Please post in Ask the Mods if you have any questions!
