Adopt a Newbie! In the spirit of good will and fellowship, we would like to invite our forum old-timers to participate once again in our "Adopt a Newbie" regifting event! Many of us who have been in this hobby for a good long while have accumulated far more than we need, or sometimes want, to have. Surely, we all have things in new or like-new condition that we'd be happy to pass along to someone just starting out in the hobby! Volunteer old-timers will be matched up with a Newbie (or more!) of similar doll interests. Once you have the information about your Newbie, you will assemble a nice little gift for them. Do your best to include something that will suit their dolly wishes or needs! Criteria for being a volunteer: - member for more than 3 years - be in good forum and MP standing - indicate to what kind of newbie you are prepared to re-gift (large boys, mini girls, tiny anthros, etc.) - indicate how many newbies you can handle! - make sure that you're able to carry through on your commitment to your assigned Newbie - no flaking once you've signed up! - can send your gift by Sept 8th There will be no dollar minimum or maximum on the worth of your gift. We will send you information about your newbie(s) so you can find out what they are interested in or what they need. Do your best to make their wishes come true, and, most importantly - have fun! Sign-ups are now closed! We will be contacting Oldies with their Newbie assignments soon! --------------------------------------------- Are you a Newbie? With a welcoming spirit, we would like to invite our Newbies to benefit from the hoarding collecting habits of their forum elders. When you buy your first doll, the first thing you think of is the creation of the special or unique look you will give your doll. It's a labor of love to pull it all together. It takes a lot of time, some patience and in most cases money. Having a basic piece of clothing, the right wig or eyes, takes that new piece of resin one step closer to your vision. We would like you to reap a small reward from our years of collecting and we hope that it helps you along just a wee bit. If you are new to the forum, and new to doll ownership, please join us for this event. Criteria for being a Newbie: - member for 6 months or less - in good forum and MP (if applicable) standing - have at least one doll or have a doll on the way (On layaway counts! But please make sure that your doll is actually in production/going to be produced, not something like a Kickstarter that is not yet fully funded.) Now, if you have been collecting BJDs for five years but are new to DoA, please be honest; you are not a hobby Newbie and should refrain from signing up for this. Sign-ups are now closed! Newbies, expect to hear from your Oldies soon! *We will do our very best to match up like-minded old-timers and newbies. Matches will be handled on a first-come, first-serve basis. Because of this, not everyone may be able to participate! Sign-ups for this event end on August 30th, Pacific Daylight Time (UTC -7:00), 11:59PM.
Hiya ... I class myself as a newbie (although I joinedDoA a year ago, I did not have a doll until this year). Also, I have missed out on this event before. If I could be put on a waiting / reserve list to join that would be great. The reason I would like to take part is to learn from an old timer how to do this event, so I can then carry on the tradition, and one day adopt a newbie too!!!
Hi! I'm a 6 month newbie and I'd love to join in! Do you need my home address? Or can I give you my hubby's work address? It's slightly more secure and I know anything that's sent won't get lost.
um . . . there's a link to sign up in the post that the Mods made. Look for the big blue letters that say "If you are a Newbie, sign up for this event here!"
What fun! I didn't participate in the the last go around, but I think I'll try to dive in this time Just have to go through my stash and see what might be useful for someone just starting out.
That's absolutely fine! You can use the address at which you prefer to receive shipped packages. However, as a note to other Newbies signing up, we do need an address of some kind. Saying "contact me for address" does not work, because the address information is part of what we're using when pairing up Newbies and Oldies, as some Oldies prefer not to ship internationally. If your address has special circumstances attached (such as using a receiving company in one country that forwards your mail to another country, or a situation like the one above, where it's a work address rather than a home address), feel free to explain that in the address field or in the additional note section of the form. But we need actual shipping information.
Oh, sounds really cool!! I've been planning to buy my first doll this month anyway, this is exciting!
Love the idea. If i manage to get something i would not mind if it is a broken piece. Love to repair cloth, furniture, shoes...just name it . I could pay the shipping fee Thanks on advance
Thank you for holding such event! I can't be more excited. I feel so welcomed to the hobby already! edit: Uhm.. I think I forgot to write my province and state in my address. Can I somehow edit them? I live in West Java,Indonesia
I signed up but didn't receive any conformation. I really don't expect anything but would love to make a good friend out of this
@Irischen I've taken care of the address issue for you, don't worry. Oldies who are thinking of signing up, don't be shy. You might be remembering last year, when we had way more Oldies than Newbies, and so not every Oldie who joined the event got to participate. However, right now we have a ratio of about 2 Newbies signed up for every 1 Oldie who has joined, so it doesn't look like we're going to run out of Newbies any time soon! In fact, if this trend continues, we might have to disappoint some Newbies. Wouldn't that be sad?
@Kiyakotari, if you run short of Oldies, I'd be happy to take on more Newbies than I signed up for -- I wouldn't want anyone to be left out. (My only worry is that if the Newbie/s want very specific things, I might wind up accidentally disappointing them, but I worry about that no matter how many packages I'm making up . . .)
This is awesome! Great way to make new friends. Hopefully someday I will be an oldie who can help a newbie Thanks for putting this together xx
I signed up but only for one newbie since I'm not sure what to expect! I'm not sure how specific the wishlist will be and I want to make sure I can give them something they need or want. Will I be paired up with someone before the deadline, and if so, could I adopt someone else afterwards?
I agree and I'm sort of in the same boat. As it is now we have only one week time to find or maybe even create something fitting for our partner. If we were given more time (preferably at least two weeks) I'd feel confident to take 2 newbies as well.
Man, I'll have to go through all the stuff I've hoarded and see if there's anything anyone would like :O
same here! but been on the board for a couple years was always afraid to do something wrong [like I did today three times in commenting on sales links but I'm not gonna let that put me back in the shadows I feel I learn from my mistakes and the only way is to get out there, so if anyone feels sorry for us that have been around but are still in the process of waiting for our first board worthy dolls, here we are!
As a Newbie....I can say, rest assured you will not disappoint! My half-naked bald dollies and I could not possibly be upset if we got anything at all! (even if it is just a new pen-pal!)
Hi I joined just over 8 months ago but only got my first doll under 3 months ago. Could I please sign up for this??
I haven't ordered a doll yet, so i don't really apply to the giveaway. I just wanted to say this is a really sweet thing for you guys to be doing!!! I hope everyone has fun who is participating!
I signed up for being a newbie, I hope something not went wrong with my inscription... thank you for this awseome event, I hope everyone find a newbie/oldie !
Just signed up! I literally just cleaned out all my doll trunk stuff, and I have been wondering what to do with it all. I hate making Marketplace threads for a single randomly sized wig and stuff like that, so I am SUPER excited to pass it along to people who are just starting out. Life says I can't reasonably do contests this year, so I'm happy to have a way to participate in the celebration. Thank for bringing this back, Mods!
I joined DoA Dec. of last year but just got my first doll a couple weeks ago, am I not able to join the newbie event?
Ok so I just went through my hoarded stuff and I have an assortment of random things in random sizes with some sizes having more than others so I'm not sure how many people that would be for or how I should allocate it when signing up. What should I put in the sign up form? (Cat not included ) Spoiler -SD girl dress: 3 (1 larger bust, 1 SD10 bust or other flat bust, 1 stretchy) -SD girl shoes: 1 -SD boy shirt: 3 -SD boy pants: 1 -SD boy shoes: 2 -65cm boy shoes: 3 -Huge boy shoes: 1 (I got these for my EID but they were even big on him) -MSD girl or boy shirt-1 -MSD fur wig (I think 6.5-7.5 or 7-8?) -MSD boots: 1 -9/10 wig: 2 -YoSD wig: 2 (I think 6-7) :YoSD shoes: 1 -YoSD sweater: 1 -YoSD shorts: 1 -12mm eyes: 1 pair (not in the picture) -14mm eyes: 2 pairs -16mm eyes: 2 pairs -18mm eyes: 1 pair -SD sized straw hat: 1 (about 8-9 sized head)
I'm feeling like Britney Spears right now... I'm not a girl (I've been here since January, so 8 months) not yet a woman (less than 3 years).
Really love to do this again! I really hope my formulier got trough thought, im still on holiday atm and the Internet break down quite often.
Hello, Ive just signed up as a newbie. My wishlist is simple and easy non picky anything helps. Thank you for considering adopting me and my little girl.
Just signed up as an old-bie I wasn't really sure how to allocate the stuff but I made my best guess.
LOL. I am an Oldie since I've been in the hobby for 6+ years, but I just got my first resin BJD doll last month.......
Me too! I just submitted the application to participate, even though my story is exactly like yours. I still feel like such a newbie, trying to sit at the big kids' table. I really want to participate so I can be more active and get to know others and the event process. I like traditions, too, and think they are super important to carry on.
Hey guys, don't worry about not hearing anything back yet. We're waiting until all the entries are in before we match people up, so we can try to make sure everyone's preferences are taken into account the best we can.
Finally found the time to go through my doll stuff, I don't have as much as I thought, but hopefully I can help out a newbie!
Yup, me too...something like that! I got my first BJD 4 years ago, now I have over 40 of them, so definitely not a newbie anymore! But I've only been a member here for a year and a half, so can't be an oldie. I feel like I pestered people and waited for an invite over here for another year and a half before someone finally sent me one, does that count towards my 3 years? hahaha!
I love this idea! ...but I also have to go through my doll stuff because I'm not really sure what I have, isn't that a little embarrassing??? I guess after you've been in the hobby a while the dolly sized things just sorta pile up!
If you signed up for DoA before our cutoff date, but only recently got your very first On Topic doll, you can go ahead and sign up. We are not looking to exclude our new doll owners! Please do keep in mind we might not find a match for every Newbie or Old-bie. We will do out very best to match up as many as possible~
I am so very excited about this I have just sing up as a oldie and I am very over joyed that I might get to help out someone who is just starting out in the hobby! Although I am only a good match for someone who has msd girl dolls XD and really need clothes. I just realized though that the 8th is a Thursday would it be ok if I shipped out on the 10th? I work during post office hours during the week and I really can't make it to the post office before it closes or opens during the week. I will ship it is just I have to do it on Saturday is this something that is ok or do I need to pull my application out?
@aquaray8 As long as you make a plan and stick to it, that would be fine. We would ask that you tell your Newbie your alternate ship date if and when you get matched up.
