I've made several wigs out of acrylic yarn, but this one is by far the most complicated one I've made! This wig is for the 1/5 Dollzone Xiang Liu snake doll with a head circumference of 15.7cm. 20250816_183245 by Concrete Clouds, on Flickr The base for the wig cap is made from a stretchy old t-shirt and PVA glue before being cut into the shape of the dolls hairline. The wefts are 100% acrylic yarn that has been brushed out and straightened. These were then flattened into thin layers and glued along the edge using more PVA glue. After the wefts were finished I used superglue (I'm lazy, lol) to glue the wefts along guidelines I drew for the styling. 20250816_183321 by Concrete Clouds, on Flickr The ponytails are extra wefts connected to the rest of the wig where the beads connect to hide the connection. 20250816_183313 by Concrete Clouds, on Flickr The fringe is inspired by a hime cut, but is more roughly cut. 20250816_183225 by Concrete Clouds, on Flickr The buns have volume added by extra yarn fluff and tied off at the base with thin elastic. The elastic is then covered by a thin piece of weft. 20250816_183216 by Concrete Clouds, on Flickr 20250904_174721 by Concrete Clouds, on Flickr The finished wig slips onto the dolls head like a cap. It's a fairly solid wig, so I'm able to slip it on and off fairly easily.
Gorgeous work! And I'm reassured that DIY wigs with ponytails can look this good, as I'm going to be attempting one myself at some point
The bead idea in the back is wonderful! I must play around with that idea! Great job! Very inspiring!
@Valdemagra Adding beads really helped create the illusion of length and volume. I got the trick from watching cosplayers make wigs! having something hide the connection between wefts help maintain a cleaner look @lavenderbear DIY can be scary and I've definitely made some mistakes, but honestly patience will take you a long way. I had to step away from this wig several times just to ease my anxiety. I would love to see what you end up making!
@aixx3 Thanks for the encouragement! I will definitely try and post it on here if it turns out alright! I've got some other projects cooking now, but I think I'm going to try for a wig once those are done.
