The hands & feet are strung with string which is then looped through the elastic. The elastic is really really loose & I think I need to completely replace it. But I have no idea how to get more string in. The feet have bars that go through the width of the foot & the string loops around that. If anyone needs to see how this looks I can post pictures. Thanks! Anna
You really need to try and keep the string intact... although it's fixable if not. Have you cut it, or is it still there? I've restrung a couple older SDs, so I can try to help out. ^^ ~Kalmia
If you absolutely have to cut the string, you can replace it with the same sort of twine. There is just enough room in the ball joint to fit the tip of a small pair of needle nose pliers. So this is what you do: -Take the untied string, and stuff one end into the ball joint on one side of the bar. -With a tiny screwdriver, piece of stiff wire, etc, just kind of push the end of the string around until you can see a bit of the string on the other side of the wire. -Grab the bit of string with your needle nose pliers and pull it up through. - Knot the ends of the string together to make a loop. As for attaching it to the elastic: - Stretch out the elastic from the arm and clamp it so that you have enough room to pull the loop of the twine through the loop of elastic. - Once the twine is through the elastic, thread the hand and ball joint through the twine loop. Pull it tight, and twine should be wrapped around the elastic and anchored by the hand.
Thanks for the help, both of you I have not yet cut the string, but I think the elastic is shot. I did not have to stretch this to take the picture & I have pulled it as tight as I can in the head-cap. That little bar in the foot sure threw me!
It took me a while to figure this out, but the feet and hands of old SD10s are attached by looping the elastic through the string, not the other way around. In other words, to detach it, you'll need to pull the elastic out as far as you can and pull a loop of elastic through the string so you can fit the foot through and unhook it. It's hard to describe or illustrate without a doll on hand... do you sort of get what I mean? ^^; I can try to rig up an apparatus with some spare elastic and string if it doesn't make sense. ~Kalmia
lol...I think so. I just can't figure out how to unloop the elastic & the string. Do I actually have to cut the elastic? Otherwise it looks like I will have to pull the foot through the elastic. And is the elastic rigged through the body like the newer SDs or other BJDs? For example, smaller elastic circle through arms & torso & the larger elastic circle through the body & legs with both going to the head? I need to find my string puller, this one piece torso is hard to string!
