A Texan Hello!

Apr 7, 2023

    1. Time to introduce myself since I've become more active here after getting back into the hobby!

I'm Shinka and I feel like a complete newbie even though I've had my KDF Darae for 10 years now - in between then and now were a lot of bad years, I was in a dark headspace for a long time. Even though during that time I felt embarrassed for liking dolls I couldn't let go of my Darae, so she stayed in her box hidden away. Now I'm finally feeling the sun on my face and confident enough to openly express my love for BJD. Whew! Glad to be here! :blush

I'm learning a lot about the hobby here and can't wait to grow my doll family this year, hopefully make some friends online and IRL, attend a meetup (hi DFW peeps!), and just generally enjoy something that makes me happy! <3

    2. Hello! Or should I say HOWDY! I'm also in DFW! It's nice to meet you Shinka! It's great that you've kept your Darae around for so long, even when you weren't feeling sure of yourself. And even better to hear that you're feeling much better these days than back then.

    3. Howdy!

I hear you about feeling embarrassed... I was for a long time and quit the hobby for a while. But now I'm surrounded by supportive people. It makes such a huge difference! I'm so glad you're able to be free and confident and that you kept your Darae!

    5. Fellow dallasite here too! I don't have as long a history in bjds as you (started in 2018), but i just got some oldie dolls from 2005 DOD Too and AOD Chen that could be friends with your Darae!
there's a sizeable chunk of BJD peeps here in the DFW area which has been a great blessing for me in making friends and growing my commission portfolio. I hope your part 2 of your bjd journey is one full of joy and friends!
If you use FB, there is a local fb group. Also since Dallas Dollcon is a thing here, there's also a semiactive discord that branched out from the dollcon.

    6. Welcome @shinka_cat I'm glad you are able to have more fun now and embrace your interest in the hobby.
Remember that randos who might give you and your doll a weird look on the street are probably more afraid of you than you are of them. :XD:
I'm far away, though also in Texas. I take dolls around for pictures in public because I don't care about anything anymore and most people are not rude about it. Sometimes random people find it very charming (from a distance, I can see them smiling at me and holding back their children :XD:).
Hope the hobby will bring you a lot of joy no matter how you approach it :aheartbea
