Hello! I'm Kettle. I've been pining over BJD's for over a decade now but never found the courage to wade through the throng of information on how to start in this hobby. This past June I was given the opportunity to go to Japan and I thought to myself, well it is now or never. I found my boy Baron in a second hand store in Osaka with all his paperwork and Charm Doll token? on the back of his head. I'd like to believe it was a fated sort of meeting. I've been slowly learning all that I can now that we are both home and have been devising how to make a post apocalyptic outfit for him. So far it has been really fun and I look forward to occasionally posting here with updates and questions
Hi! Welcome to DOA! How cool that you were able to visit Japan! It sounds like you and your first doll (they do usually multiply haha) had a happy meeting. If you are interested in crafting and sewing, there are several threads here where you can join in. There is a monthly sewing thread, for example. Like you, I knew about bjds a long time before actually buying one. There is so much information to take in! But it is okay to take it slowly. The only important things to know right away are in regard to crafting and modding - resin dust is dangerous and so are some art supplies used for faceups (for example, pastel dust is harmful to the lungs) so check out the safety measures if you want to try anything like that. But for the rest of it, just enjoy learning and joining in at your own speed!
Nice to meet you. Osaka is near from my place. If you don't mind, can you tell me the information of the second hand store in Osaka? I want to stop by, too. Hope to see your son Baron soon.
I can't remember the name of the store but it was in Den Den Town. I was basically wandering around after not really connecting with any of the dolls in Volks. It was one of those places with all the glass cases where individuals sell used goods. From what I have read I probably got lucky to find a doll with all his proper id things. There is also a Dolk store I found later on there. The shop attendants helped me so much! They made sure the poor boy didn't go home naked and eyeless even if we all were communicating via google translate.
