66cm+ Dolls A Postal Horror Story with a Happy Ending

Apr 11, 2024

    1. You know that dread you have that your box will arrive destroyed? Either for a doll you've waited months for or a secondhand find that you may or may not be able to replace?

Yeah. That's the Iplehouse EID body I bought through the marketplace showing through a dissolved box. The plastic was wrapped around the whole thing to hold it together.

I opened it very carefully and took a few pictures of the contents as I went.

I pulled everything out, laid it flat, and all that's missing is the hand and feet s-hooks! (And any extras other than the shoes that the seller added, but I'm less worried about that since resin pieces would be way harder to replace.)

(Also, the feet don't look like they need s-hooks but the Iplehouse site says they do. Can anyone confirm if that's a newer thing, or if I should be hooking an s-hook to the resin hook instead of the elastic?)

I've got the s-hooks ordered and will be adding a photo of the body assembled when they're here. I feel super lucky that all I ended up with are some extra marks instead of any breaks and easily-replaceable parts are the only ones that fell out. Many kudos to @Koushoku for packing the smaller pieces taped together so they couldn't slip out! I will definitely be doing something like that next time I ship a box, just in case.

    2. That looks like absolute insanity. I cannot imagine receiving a package like this.:aeyepop:

But I am happy to see that what mattered most was safe, and there was a good ending to it all.:kitty2

As far as the s-hooks for the feet, I just received a FID man, and he has s-hooks connecting his feet to the elastic.

    3. Depends on how old the body is. The older big bodies have resin hooks in the feet, but like my newer SID body has s hooks attaching the feet to the elastic.

    4. I have a lot of IH dolls my only EID male is a Chase The Magician version, from way back in the day of EIDs actually having cursed elbow and knee joints. My big guy has the resin hook in his feet, and a S hook connecting it to the elastic and the little cover ring over the S hook. Mine is strung like my first version muscle SID boy and the few EID woman in the house hold. Again though mine is from the days of wonky ankles, and really weird elbow and knee double jointing that is actually madness to try and get working and into place somedays. XD

Best of luck getting him restrung. Glad to see in spite of his box dying in shipping he made it with all his pieces. <3

    5. That's probably what it's supposed to be, then, since I've got the little rings.

Thanks everyone for the info! And yes, I was for a moment terrified!

    6. Wow! That is the most destroyed box I have ever seen! I once got a doll delivery with the corner ripped off and it was halfway open, but this one beats all!

I am glad that your doll was safe after all that! He must have one heck of an adventure to tell about how he ended up that way! :3nodding:

    7. The noise i made looking at that first picture.... OMG!! Did the post office have any kind of idea what happened that your package got THAT mangled?!!

I'm glad the things that were missing are easier to replace and nothing was broken!

    8. Local postal guy (who is very cool and should not be blamed for anyone who transports stuff messing up) shrugged, but looking closer at it, I'm pretty sure they let it sit wet for a while. I thought there was packing paper coming out the hole but it was actually cardboard with it's layers separated that was all crumpled up and water-damaged.

    9. Assembled photos! My cat scared himself by getting tangled in the handles of the bag I was keeping the pieces in, so I used zip ties as temporary hooks to get the body put together and the bag tucked away out of his reach again.

All the pieces definitely are there. I couldn't use a couple of the little wrist and ankle pieces (that cover the s-hooks) with the zip ties, so I wrapped them in a pipe cleaner and tucked them in the torso for safekeeping - it's the one place I can guarantee they won't get lost from, haha!

I haven't tried a magic eraser on it yet because I'm going to take the body apart and clean it when the s-hooks get in. Might as well tackle it then when I'm doing an overall refresh.
